Review: This time last year, French combo Cotonete joined forces with Brazilian singer Di Melo to deliver what became one of the sleeper hits of last summer - the Latin disco/jazz-funk fusion of "A.E.I.O.U.". Here they continue their partnership with a first collaborative full length. It's a quietly impressive outing, with Di Melo's distinctive vocals rising above cuts that variously doff a cap to sultry Brazilian disco-funk, Azymuth-esque jazz-funk, soundtrack-friendly cinematic soundscapes, Astrud Gilberto style sweetness and humid salsa-funk (standout "Kilario (2019 Version)". It's a warm, loose and hazy set that feels authentically South American despite its Parisian roots.

Any self respecting music fan will no doubt already have fully acquainted themselves with Black Messiah, the long promised new album from soul artist D'Angelo and know that it already stands as one of the long players of the year if not the decade! The real fans have probably been waiting for the vinyl release and it's great to see the correct decision has been made to grant Black Messiah a double LP pressing. Everyone no doubt has their favourites on Black Messiah but it's great to have cuts like "Sugah Daddy" on wax, that one is perfect for the house party situations.

This theme of celebration continues with 'You Can Do Anything', a motivating piece that exudes creativity and resolve. Review: Here's a project to get all spiritual jazz devotees in a lather - a masterful meeting of minds between Mark de Clive Lowe, Shigeto and Melanie Charles. De Clive Lowe is an accomplished pianist straddling jazz, hip-hop and house, while Shigeto is the drummer best known for his crunchy take on low slung beats. Charles is a next level singer, flautist and songwriter most readily associated with Verve Records, and her energy leads this incredible exploration of works by Pharaoh Sanders alongside their own compositions. Just check the truly ascendant version of 'the Creator Has A Master Plan', which more than does justice to a piece of music many might consider untouchable. Truly magic.

Review: A year on from his Robe Of Dreams album on the Neroli label, UK techno veteran and jazz lover Kirk Degiorgio is back with The Statement. This record sees him widen his musical scope at the same time as continuing the good work laid down by that last outing. It is a freeform and intriguing exploration of broken beats and meandering basslines, haunting trumpet leads and a cacophony of drums. Ambient pads, soaring vocals from Beauty Room vocalist Jinadu and elements of everyone from Sun Ra to Lonnie List Smith all colour these most magnificent sounds.

Review: Over his long and illustrious career, Dennis 'Dego' McFarlane has made music in many complimentary styles, but it's been broken beat with which he's been associated with for the least two decades. Alongside his friend and regular studio partner Kaidi Tatham, he's developed a particular strain of "bruk" that incorporates elements of jazz, electrofunk, soul, boogie, jazz-funk and, more occasionally, hip-hop. It's this fluid, attractive, synth-heavy sound that's at the heart of The Negative Positive, his first solo full-length for two years. It's as well-made, soulful, slick and musically rich as you'd expect, with a series of stellar vocal numbers joining a swathe of similarly impressive instrumentals.

Review: The Martin Denny reissue series continues at pace with one of his most sought-after albums. Exotic Moog was initially released in 1969 and pretty much does what it says on the tin - takes the iconic Moog synth and conjures up all manner of exotic and spaced-out sounds that leave you laying back and gazing on in awe. There's a retro-future feel to them which makes them all the more likable, and though some are beatless pieces of suspensory scene-setting, there are some breezy grooves like 'I Talk To The Trees' and sentimental space waltzes like 'The Enchanted Sea'. A characterful world of cinematic sounds for sure.

Review: Dizraeli's fallback bio is "multi-instrumentalist MC, singer, producer from Bristol, UK, distributing explosions that journalists find hard to describe." Well, we'll happily rise to the challenge, if not because it is our job. The Bristol-born artist has found a slow but sure footing in recent years on the UK jazz circuit, and now proffers his latest record Joy Machine to the collective ear. ecorded almost entirely in a single day at the legendary Total Refreshment Centre in London, the album brings together faces both new and old in London's new jazz pizzazz, from Alabaster DePlume to Jonathon Enser (Nubiyan Twist), from Ben Brown (Alfa Mist, Mulatu Astatke) to Daisy George and Joe Downard; the list goes on. A steamy and varied record following the tradition of Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, Dizraeli's now patented new album/invention - bound, of course, to deliver on its promiseL: the soliciting of joy - does just that, albeit in a curveball manner. Rather than putting on a pure rictus smile, Dizraeli opts for a sultry sepia sound, one that hardly fails to find joy in the many mournful corners of life (he grieves his dog on 'Greek Summer', and pens a timeless letter to a long-lost friend on 'Abigail').

Review: Though his career has taken many turns over the last decade, DJ Koze has remained that most illusive of creatures: a minimal-minded producer with an ear for a melody. This fourth full-length, packed to the rafters with big-name collaborations (Apparat, Caribou, Ada and Matthew Dear all feature), continues his move towards the home-listening sphere. So, while many of the heady rhythms and shuffling grooves hark back to his stripped-back past, Amygdala impresses with its woozy songs, genre-straddling fusions (see the modern soul meets deep house of "Homesick" or the steppy, tropical vibes of "Marilyn Whirlwind") and homely atmosphere.

Review: Krush's eighth - and last - album Jaku is up there with Endtroducing and Donuts in terms of seminal, influential and forward-thinking beat longer players. 10 years since its release and it still sounds as timeless, unique and exciting as it did in 2004. The slick licks of a young Mr Lif on "Nosferatu", the post-apocalyptic tension of "Univearth" the sludgy, swampy cosmic hip-hop of the Aesop Rock-featured "Kill Switch" and the unashamed sax sex of "Slit Of Cloud"..... Do we need to go on? Limited edition, 180g transparent vinyl; even if you already have this in your collection this is a very, very appealing investment.

Review: TrioRox is a new project uniting three prominent Italian music figures namely pianist Giovanni Guidi, bassist Joe Rehmer, and electronic musician DJ Rocca aka Luca Roccatagliati. Vol 2 is another blend of heady, dubby sounds with cosmic dance vibes that span serval sub-genres with ease. What Happened to Yesterday? is, we are told, the first of two albums from the pair that will arrive several months apart. It finds the pair get super hazy and dubby, with psychedelic charm swirling around their absorbing grooves next to subtle cues taken from the diverse likes of DJ Premier and King Jammy. There is a superb Moog-based cover of De La Soul's 'I Am I Be', Afro-Carribean disco in 'Dancehall of Grandeur' and epic jazz-rock on Volcano Sound' so dig in and prepare to be wowed.
