For this first vinyl release, Defected has packaged the now-familiar original mix with a trio of reworks. The most impressive of these comes from German veteran Mousse T. He brilliantly re-casts the track as a bumpin' chunk of celebratory disco-house complete with thrilling piano riffs and an elastic bassline.

Clearly, the faction have recruited only the best, trusted and yet most nefarious of spies from as far-flung regions as Czechia and Argentina in the administering of such a sordid sonic plague. Aeon Four & FFF's 'Look Inside' is a jungle-tekno roller, served with chunky hardcore style amens and a side of warm old-skool pads. Keeping the mid-90s vibe alive, the tripped out 'Green Fields Forever ' from Fanu - which drops hot on the heels of his greatly received remaster of Source Direct's 'Stars' - delivers airtight amen trickery, weaving synth washes and blissful dubby basslines. Esc & Mineral round things off with 'Photosynthesis', a pensive stepper highlighting cut-up breaks waltzing with cheeky synth nudges and a wide, rugged bassline. If the pioneers had buried some beefed-up tracks in a time-capsule to inspire future generations, they would probably sound a lot like 'States of Art II'.

Review: Sole Aspect takes us around the world and to the studios of artists based across Madrid, Switzerland, Los Angeles and Detroit on The Mystic Embrace EP. Opening it up is Ernes Joey & Robbin Hauz with 'U Should Know' (feat Shea Doll - Age Of Rage remix) which is a version by Dubbyman alongside Dan Piu with some delightfully jazzy keeps, seductive deep house drums and aching vocals full of heart. The original is a stripped-back sound with less melodic luxuriousness but the still superb vocal front and centre. Dubbyman then mixes Klima Project's 'Sweetback' into a mid-tempo, cuddly back room deep house sound and Patrice Scott Reshapes it with some crystal-cut synth lines that bring cosmic charm.

Review: Given that both producers are underground titans, traversing the blurred lines between disco, acid, deep house and wide-eyed dreaminess, you'd expect this two-track collaboration between Eddie C and Keita Sano to be pretty darn good. It is, of course, with the pair carving their own mind-mangling, breathlessly energetic niche on 'Disco Universal' - a certified throb-job in which trippy noises, exotic instrument samples and pulse-racing electronic motifs rise above a thumping beat and Italo-disco style sequenced bassline. It slows down midway through, 'French Kiss' style, before the duo brilliantly bring it back to a peak-time tempo. They explore sub-heavy, garage-influenced deep house and breakbeat pastures on the dreamy, weighty, impactful and acid-fired 'Joy Joy Joy', once more showcasing the diversity of their musical influences.

Review: The cornerstone of a certain (unforgettable) trance moment in time, Eden Transmission's 'I'm So High' was *the* tune to peg the LA and San Fran rave scenes indelibly to the PI's corkboard of dance music. Eden Transmission were only one alias of an ever-evolving, planarian duo - Michael Kandel, Tom Chasteen - whose works as Voodoo Transmission, High Lonesome Sound System and Up Above The World could equally have been deemed just as significant projects. But we prefer 'I'm So High'. One of the best to do it with breakbeats, the 'Ubud' mix of the title track hears what sounds like a bazaar gathering of psychic townsfolk, set against urgent whispers, which hydrolyse against a reso-peaked lead. And by far the best tune is 'Powertrance', which startles us with its wireless charge of mega-heavy breaks and robotic C-shell sendups, whisking us into psycho-cyberspace.

Review: Boogie Back Records have been going consistently since the early 90s, serving as a rare case of a label whose relentless output helps blur the lines of "boogie" and "neo-boogie". And while an increasing sanitation of sound might often be associated with most generic "neos", Ernie & The Family Mckone prove this wrong on their latest 7", 'That Girl', whose sound is as tight yet live as ever. Fronted by Boogie Back label owner, singer, producer and guitarist Ernie Mckone (aka. "The Great Ernesto"), this record is a family affair in aspirate vocals and finger-clicking beat bounces. The A-side hears Mckone aim to relieve a lover from pain by keeping a secret, and the B slangs lower on a near-variation of the same beat, albeit the lyrics carry a deep saudade.

Review: Gerard Hanson, known as techno don Convextion, delivered three deep electro gems as ERP for Frustrated Funk and the cuts were soon regarded as mini modern classics. As such the EP gets reissued on blue vinyl and from the off he lays down a killer moody electro-funk vibe with the elastic basslines and emotive synth strokes of 'Luctu.' The B-side 'Tuga' captivates with its beautiful strings and harmonised synths, while 'Pith' charms with its hushed, In Sync-style drum machine rhythms and a nocturnal vibe. Review: Caleto Records's eighth outing takes the form of this various artists compilation featuring exclusively Polish producers. The Etat Cru duo of Olszewski and Pawlescu kick off with the wire and sinewy synths and tech house pomp of 'Jasmina' then Jerry M offers two cuts. 'Gutek' is a nice spaced-out tech cruiser with flashy astral pads and 'Gondin' rides on well-designed breakbeats with an old-school bassline. Robsessive's 'Look After You' is a deeper, dubber, grittier cut for late-night vibes and SIM ON's 'Brudas' is all glitchy and dystopian urban landscaping. Poland sure has plenty of talent based on this EP.

Here comes another case in point - a remix EP that finds key associates rework originals by Ethereal Logic. S Moreira get first with a psyched-out sound dripping in colour and percussion. Paolo Mosca's remix is a glistening one with airy breaks and twinkling melodies and the Primary Perception remix then slows things down to a vibey downtempo and boogie delight. Mosh Project's remix closes with a slow motion and snaking sound that would work well as a backing track to a DMT trip.

Review: An experimental techno hexagram in LP form from Stockholm artist Evigt Morker. Without so much as a hint of context, the techno dark-shooter here drops his third LP for resident label Northern Electronics as a surprise, and the result is rather stunning. A bleary set of impressions, some tunes on this record clip the top edge of the mix, chinking our emotive armour. The effect is gastric, dehiscent, exuding bile: 'Hemilga Eldar' leaves us dumbstruck by its ambient eventidal winds and strangely sprawled drum shapes, while 'Sokaren Hittade' combines nyctophile cantos with electric twangs. The closer 'Det Blaser En Vind...' is a headland of humility, letting in much longer gusts of tuned air.

Review: Spanish label Fanzine keeps its quality output coming with this 19th EP, and it takes the form of a various artists' EP and the fourth instalment of the Xuntanza series. The Exaltics open up with some moody and stripped-back downtempo electro on 'The End' and Robot City then picks up the energy with the snappy rhythms of 'TerrorVision.' Elektrotechnik's 'Autopilot' is a nice bumping, tightly programmed drum workout with sci-fi effects and rising arps, then Acidulant brings some manic 303 action and Roi shuts down with more industrial electro tension.

Review: Eddie Singleton, once a prominent figure in Los Angeles' music scene post-Shrine Records, recorded a poignant soul ballad with the little-known group Exclusive around 1969. This track, previously unreleased, captures Singleton's emotional depth and soul craftsmanship. Earlier, in 1966, Singleton and his collaborators, Keni St. Lewis and Dale Warren, recorded a track with Washington DC's Blossoms, titled 'This Is Your Last Chance. Review: Celebrating a fifteen-year journey, this Berlin label - founded by a producer, DJ and live act Bloody Mary - has become a cornerstone for the acid techno community, revolving around its founder's deep connection to the sound which, while born in the 80s, continued to shape techno in the 1990s. As a Tresor resident and advocate of the scene's roots, her influence has brought together a few of the most iconic artists in the sound to help create a compelling acid-driven compilation. Opening the release is 'Days Off Buzz' from Mainz-based Thomas P Heckmann - best known for his 'Amphetamine' anthem - which proves to be a powerhouse track brimming with intensity and dark energy, the driving acid lines and thumping rhythm definitely echoing to his legendary role in shaping the genre. Next, the founder herself delivers 'Fractal Waves', a perfect blend of breakbeat textures and reverberating 303s, capturing a classic acid vibe with a fresh twist. On Side-2, E-Bony's '303 Elements' taps into mid-90s rave nostalgia with swirling acid layers and hypnotic momentum, nodding to early pioneers while carving its own path. Hardfloor close the compilation with 'I'll Never Own A Helicopter', where their signature intertwined 303s create a dazzling interplay of rhythm and melody, embodying their status as acid legends. Rooted in history yet pushing boundaries, this collection exemplifies why the label remains essential to the techno landscape.

Review: EC Underground is back with more inquisitors of low-end heavy sounds on Bass Scene Investigation vol 1 and again digs deep into the worlds of electro, techno, breakbeat and IDM. The compilation kicks off with the skittish percussive patterns of Illektrolab's 'Making Heads Dip', then heads into moody ground with ADJ, Pablo Funk brings some menacing synth work and Errorbeauty gets all weird and trippy with some mad electronics. Francois Dillinger offers a dystopian electro sound full of irresistibly jacked-up drums. A fine investigation indeed.

Review: Gideon Jackson and Eddie Richards are bona fide tech house titans who have more than helped to shape the genre since day dot and the All Rise EP sees three of their finer past glories gathered together and remastered and pressed on lovely red wax. The excellent 'Biscuit Barrel Blues' opens with exactly the sort of compelling drum work you would expect and it is imbued with some prying synths and sultry vocals. There is an irresistible glitch and dryness to 'Pull Tab 2 Open' and its smeared pads that make it perfect body music then 'Crying' (Gideon Jackson remix) brings a more heavy tech house sound with extra dub weight. Perfection.

Review: A brand new funk and soul compilation throwing back to four cross-sixties exquisites, Soul 4 Real have really outdone themselves this time about. We lead with the pithy prancing-about that it Gladys Knight & The Pips' lost-love magic carpet ride in song, 'Show Me The Way', which flaunts the singer's tumescent voice in a flurry of longing to acquire her crush's ticker. Then Martha Reeves' apparently, formerly unreleased 'This Is The Love' showcases the Alabaman's vaso-dilated voice against an equally degage but still hooking soul jovial. The B travels further back in time to The Temptations' 'Since I Don't Have You', an unreleased stock with an especial Christmas charm from the Motown towerers; and finally, Blinky and Edwin Starr consummate a duetting soul love, through harmonics and end-phrase ghost notes, on the closing 'Never Gonna Give You Up'.

Review: The third volume in Colpo Grosso's edits series amounts to yet another slinky slice of sensual post-Italo disco sundries. With each original artist and track title on the record respectively lent a three-letter and N-letter abbreviation, we'll leave it to you to piece together the puzzle as regards to whose source material is being reworked here. On this occasion, the hired hands are Massimo Voci, M.B. Funk, Wandevogel and Legowelt, each of whose takes on the various steam-downs and sweat lodgings of the genius genre that is Italo amount to four farther, slammingly sexual condensations of the sound. Our fave has to be Vandevogel's version of 'PRNDLCS', which starts out dramatically downcast before launching into a well-placed implantation of baritone sax and *bonne brisse* vocals.

Review: Eight further sonic spirits are conjured on the seventh edition in Damian Lazarus' annual compilation series. Emphasising deep house and techno grooves with a hypnotic flavour, the procurement here is exemplarily brooding; Dino Lenny's 'I Have Sampled Father' marks a sure turn away from the openers' cleaner-cut mesmerisms with a smoky, funk-inflected haze, bringing rhythm guitar and paternal murmurations to a surreal montage. The monologuing mood continues on the equal highlight that is Upercent's 'Where Are You', whilst Enamour's 'Jackpot' rounds out the show with the record's only brightly-lit minimal triller. The record is marked by sensuous, distant, familiar voices throughout.

Review: Serious seriality from the OHM Series, an imprint and sole patent owner of the rare, aurally administered chemical known as Omega X. The alphabetic Greek letter ohm determines impedance / resistance in an electrical circuit, and so too do each of the dub techno tracks released on the OHM Series amount to tergiversating transductions, their chillout chord-knocks and hardened beats never quite letting us settle. Though titles like 'Innocence' and 'Downtime' persist here, the tracks perhaps inadvertently prove that flow is impossible without resistance: Separation's track is especially unorthodox in its strange reordering of phaser, pan and saturation effects on the pad-stab, which produces an unusual swirling effect.

Review: Cover songs can sometimes be difficult to tackle for an artist and even more so if it's a completely different genre. However, lending a fresh reggae twist to Toto's classic hit makes for a a great example of a successful one here. On side one, the English version of 'Georgy Porgy' features a laid-back, smooth reggae rhythm, with the iconic guitar hook reimagined as a reggae riff, giving the song a relaxed while still infectious vibe. Ethel Lindsey's soothing vocals blend seamlessly with the rhythm section, making this rendition feel both familiar and unique. On side two, the French version offers a delightful variation, with Ethel Lindsey's vocals taking on a slightly different tone, fitting the language while adding an extra layer of charm. The reggae influences remain strong and the song's laidback vibe is preserved on both versions.
