This project is all about crossing over interesting artists for unique results and so we get to see what happens when the likes of Versalife and Stenny pool their considerable talents. One of the most intriguing link ups is Microthol and Clatterbox, who lay down a full-fat, inventive strain of big room electro, while Alex Cortex and D Tiffany lock into something more streamlined and effective for the DJs out there. Review: The Versatiles were a Jamaican reggae group whose expression hardly matched the stereotype of a musician working in the style nowadays; they wore matching white suits and bow-ties, and worked in a more jubilant, clean-cut style than what we're used to. 'Lulu Bell' is a rare and much-sought-after original from the band, released in 1969 and not released on a single reissue since. The B-side on this reissue from Harlem Shuffle, 'Long Long Time', is similarly rare, and it lyrically urges generational communities to come together in song and dance.

Review: First popping up on our radar in 2020 - or rather hurling itself onto it with all the subtlety punk can muster - Common Sense gets a reissue and not before time. Outspoken but never outgunned, Swedes Viagra Boys rightly courted some serious praise with 2022's album, Cave World, so it makes sense to revisit this epic EP in a bid to get newcomers acquainted with what came before. Opening on the title number, things may not sound quite as you'd expect. While known for their ability to wield bloody-lipped chargers, 'Common Sense' owes as much to shoegaze and synth rock as it does punk variants, immediately marking the outfit out as something not quite so easy to define. Nevertheless, 'Lick the Bang' is straight up topless sweatbox material, and 'Sentinel Island' centres our brains on wonderfully distorted and frayed riffs. Closing on the slow, nostalgia-hued 'Blue', it's quite the collection.

Review: Vibez 93 returns to the fore with a prime quartered cut of meatiness and freshness in equal measure. The 'Gorilla' EP opens with a reappropriation of Drake's 'Fair Trade' - on which the Canadian rapper denounces every first-world rapper's qualm from false equivalences to fake friends - pairing these with cleansing liquid breaks, musical Rhodesy ghost notes and quaking 808 basses aplomb. 'It's Love' recalls Orca with its fricative breaks and a barely filtered-in but effective vocal sample, while B-siders 'Mug Ya Self' and 'Gorilla' rework choice cuts from The Streets and Little Simz respectively, proving the UK's enduring efficacy on the now global d&b scene.

Review: No production outfit keeps a pace of output quite like Vibez '93. The latest four-track record from the shadowy d&b profuser now hears them summon sampled echoes of A Tribe Called Quest and Digable Planets respectively, culling choice acapella selections from the debut albums Low End Theory and Reachin', exegeting the former's titular theory for a hard transpose into sheller drum & bass. 'Electric Relaxation' and 'Check The Rhime' are blown out across a two-side jazzstep liquescence, while 'Cool Like That' and 'All Night Long' make for finer-brushed summer steps.

Review: Vibez 93 veers heavier than usual on their latest almost weekly jungle top-up, released again on their eponymous label (it's been so long, and yet it's still so not clear, as to whether Vibez is one person or many different "unknown artists"). So too is 'Brain Storm' an ironic name, since most brainstorming is usually done in silence, whereas this is just utterly cyclonic, flaunting an equally apt potential to the compel the body. On the A1, a suspenseful set of whodunit piano plinks pepper an otherwise industrial-strength dose of breaks shreddages. We're barely afforded any time to 'Cool Down' neither, not least since Vibez' idea of downtime amounts to little less than a further set of gnashings by the same backbeat. Only do 'Amigo' and 'Vulkaan', on the B, meanwhile, fully wrangle the listener with the ragga influence that was only teased so flirtatiously on the A, with straight-up taped-and -elaid soundclash samples, and lesional rapid-echo breaks, aplenty.

Review: A cheeky new haul of waspish, sampleholic drum & bass from Vibez 93, the jungle producer-outfit whose exact articulation as an artistic identity, we can never quite place. But this is one of the exact reasons we've warmed to his craft, aside of course from the sparsely calculating yet vasodilatory ecstasy emissive from their music. 'Never Say Never' coolly samples the eponymous Brandy song - a morbid fixation of the jungle and 2-step garage scenes, to name but one - to the point of hardly even needing to quantize it to the breaks-grid, and yet it still works. 'Believe' complicates matters with boxier breakbeat blisters and emphatic "mashup!" jeers, while 'Touch' makes a subtler series of contacts, tacitly stroking both lobes with no less aggro beat clutches and high-reg plucksynths. We end on 'My Luv', another cool reprieve from the fatally unrelenting grind of breaksweight.

Review: Nothing beats a good old bit of jungle, and this surely is a good old bit of jungle from the Dutch label Vibes 93. Here we have four classic samples dropped into big tunes and pressed on turquoise vinyl to pump any party. 'I Need Your Lovin'' (dirty '97 mix) has a killer vocal that will never fail, then 'Sweet Love' douses you in rolling drums and heartfelt piano chords as well as another old school soul vocal. It's Muniz's '5 On It' that lends the next tune is deep baseline and catchy hook, before closer 'No Diggity' reworks the hip hop classic into a high energy roller complete with the OG keys.

Review: It's never easy keeping up with Vibez 93 and his all-out assault on the D&B scene, from the roughest jungle cuts for the underground through to canny crowdpleasers like this record right here. 'Video' is a no-nonsense flip of India.Arie's 2001 soul classic, with a righteous lyrical message which sits perfectly atop some fresh and funky breakbeats. 'Westchester Circles' meanwhile doffs its cap to Adam F's none-more-iconic 'Circles' and its source material, 'Westchester Lady' by Bob James. No prizes for guessing the reference material on 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine '23', but this is a different version to the Roy Ayers classic which is going to be peak festival fodder this season. Then cap it off with a perfect slice of sunshine rollage in 'Brasilia' and you've got a record primed for tonnes of fun wherever it gets dropped.

Review: Vibez 93 offer an eclectic mix of bootlegged drum & bass remix styles on their latest unknown artist EP here. In the ten-or-so minute interval that makes up the A-side, we span hip-d&b to instrumental liquid: 'That Once' functions as a rattling remix version of Beyonce's 'Yonce', acapella culled from her Homecoming Live album. Then 'Teardrop', you guessed it, serves an incredibly well-mixed version of Massive Attack's eponymous pre-eminent. Review: Vibez '93 has established itself as an essential destination for anyone interested in modern jungle iterations, not least the deeper end of the spectrum where ambient atmospherics meet with sharply-sliced breakbeats. Just check this new 12" on the label, credited to Vibez '93 itself and diving into some pitch-perfect amen juggling dreamscapes across four tracks. Review: From deep within the Fokuz empire, Vibez 93 continues to bring the fiercest blend of old-skool junglism and nu-skool production flair to utterly essential cuts for the widest of raves. On 'Midnight Owl' the pads spell out a smoky, immersive atmosphere, but that doesn't mean there's any hold back on the rolling breakbeat science. 'Violet' is a bit breezier in its demeanour thanks to some mellow chord licks and 'Forgotten' plummets into dank surroundings for a proper slice of breakbeat science as we've come to expect from this essential modern jungle label.

Review: Vicari brings some superb machine funk to this new EP on OGE. 'Angela' opens up with wobbly low ends that, to our ears, pay little tribute to a classic Mylo vs Miami Sound Machine riff, that are offset by snappy drums and some lush swirling melodies. After the fleshy and deeper dub comes 'My Spell' which is more bubbly, trippy and loose with its glistening sci-fi- pads and squelchy bass. The third and final original is a third different sound - 'Isolated From My Self'. This one is a jumbled of off-grid hits and detuned keys that brings great unbalance to the dance floor.

Review: It's time to take a trip back to the legendary 1980 production era of Sly & Robbie's Taxi label. By 1980-81, Taxi's stripped-down, heavyweight drum and bass sound ruled the dubplate scene at Channel 1 and while tracks like 'Heart Made of Stone' and 'Black Uhuru's' saw official releases, others like 'Warrior' and 'Rocks and Mountains' remained elusive and only surfaced decades later. 'Don't You Cry' by The Viceroys is one such raw, haunting roots track from that time with a thunderous drum and bass version also cinder. Review: Funk Night Records goes global again here with a new double-sider from Russia's The Vicious Seeds. They offer up two gems with different vibes on this 7". The first is 'Cruel Fist ', a perfect bit of busy and dense instrumental funk for some steamy dance floor business. On the flip is 'Cold Pressed Venom' which is a more slow-moving and psyched-out sound for late night hours. This is often the approach this outfit takes on this label and like all previous times, it works a treat once more here.

Review: Russian outfit The Vicious Seeds are back on their regular home label of Funk Night with yet another of their delightful little 7"s. As always they use each side to offer up slightly different vibes for different settings. First up is the deep-cut instrumental funk of 'Ace Of Haze' with its wah-wah guitars and psyched-out stoner vibes all seducing you into a meditative state of mind. 'Nature Identical Pleasure' then slows it down further with more libidinous vibes, prominent melodies snaking their bay through the dusty drums and grooves that move your soul.

Review: Spasibo Records present a fresh 7" by the Vicious Seeds, hailing from St. Petersburg. With vibraphonist Pavel Chizhik taking centre stage (Chizhik isn't usually a member of the band), 'Village Hassle' makes for a cleverly collaborative rare groove and instrumental reggae-soul release. The titular A-side flaunts Chizhik's vibraphone via the mix alone, fleshing out its low-end elements against a driven instrumental backbeat; 'Monthly Rainfall', meanwhile, goes for all-out slow-jammed soul by way of cross-sticked snares and offbeat chord plucks run through short-release springs.

First released in 1997, this is a long-lost soulful vocal house seducer from the genre's golden era. The record became a quick cult favourite, and its status among heads has remained exalted to this day, going for obscene prices on the 'ogs (there should, of course, be more regulation). Victorious aka. Victor Davies hailed from Canada and had already released one other EP before this one, via the serendipitously named Sex Records. But 'Liquid Squid' is really the teuthid oozer of choice, its lustrously sweet vocals sounding as if they'd been sung in secret by an illegitimate lover and its various analogue knocks and hums working to splashy effect.

Review: Vid remains one of the most prolific and inspiring artists operating in the Romanian scene these days, able to turn his hand to forthright groovers as much as more experimental, subliminal sounds within the minimal blueprint. On this record for Rawax he's seeming particularly open, bringing a bugging kind of funk to consummate club tool 'Genesis' before flipping the script for an airy, resplendent broken beat excursion fittingly titled 'Captain Hope'. It's an achingly melodic piece which does away with club moodiness to reach somewhere more explicitly emotional instead. 'Time Shuffle' resets the co-ordinates back to the heart of the night, unfurling one of those elegant, finely detailed grooves Vid makes his own.

Review: Get your lugs around this, the first single from Leo Vidal & The Rayvelles, and you will soon be keen to know more. 'Haunted By Your Love' is a modern take on the West Coast oldies sound from Leo Vidal, a 70s soul singer from rural Virginia who brings his East Coast harmonies to croon about lost love. Review: To Rotterdam's Planet Rhythm comes rising producer Vilchezz with a Homeric white label hardcore techno release, one which really pushes the boat out in terms of what could potentially be classified under the name. Hoisting an impossible bridge somewhere between genre peninsulas of speed garage and hard techno, 'Sunken In Robus' and 'Supra' achieve a difficult-to-achieve contrast of light and heavy, one that might otherwise not work without the hyper-minimal textures otherwise indulged. The titular and star track 'Odyssey' marks a return to vibey 4x4 techno form, though it is no less arresting; so does 'Fiebre', concluding the EP on an experimental industri-stratospheric number with which we might start our day right.

Review: Mr. Bongo's Brazil.45 continues with a repress of two highly sought-after tracks from earlier in the series, this time from Noriel Vilela and Juca Chaves. On the A-side, Vilela's 1971 cover of Tennessee Ernie Ford's '16 Tons' transforms the classic American folk song into a smooth, samba-infused groove. Vilela's version reimagines the track which was originally released on Copacabana Records, with a deep rhythmic flair. On the B-side, Juca Chaves' 'Take Me Back To Piaui' from 1970 featured on his 1972 album Muito Vivo delivers lush orchestration, velvety vocals and vibrant cuica tones. It's pure escapist bliss.

Review: 'Funky Broadway' by The Villagers appeared on the well-received Movements Vol.12 compilation album and was a clear standout amongst standouts. As a response to that it now makes its long-awaited debut release on standalone vinyl. It's a soul-stirring gem that brings classic sounds and heart-melting grooves. On the B-side comes the red hot garage-rock gem 'You're My Baby (Don't You Forget It)' which is originally from 1966, and which coincided with Dyke & The Blazers' original recording of 'Funky Broadway' in the same year. Neat.
