I'm So High
Cat: SMR 031. Rel: 28 Feb 25
I'm So High/I'm So High (Ubud mix) (12:00)
Transmission: Maya (5:53)
Powertrance (4:01)
Review: The cornerstone of a certain (unforgettable) trance moment in time, Eden Transmission's 'I'm So High' was *the* tune to peg the LA and San Fran rave scenes indelibly to the PI's corkboard of dance music. Eden Transmission were only one alias of an ever-evolving, planarian duo - Michael Kandel, Tom Chasteen - whose works as Voodoo Transmission, High Lonesome Sound System and Up Above The World could equally have been deemed just as significant projects. But we prefer 'I'm So High'. One of the best to do it with breakbeats, the 'Ubud' mix of the title track hears what sounds like a bazaar gathering of psychic townsfolk, set against urgent whispers, which hydrolyse against a reso-peaked lead. And by far the best tune is 'Powertrance', which startles us with its wireless charge of mega-heavy breaks and robotic C-shell sendups, whisking us into psycho-cyberspace.

Loose Caboose (remastered)
Cat: MC 064. Rel: 07 May 24
Loose Caboose (7:04)
Crazy Train (5:03)
Loose Caboose (Bassbin Twins remix) (10:23)
Review: Loose Caboose by Electroliners is a quintessential mid-90s west coast classic that embodies the essence of breakbeat and house music fused with a rave attitude. The title track, 'Loose Caboose,' is a timeless anthem that resonates with American ravers from that era, leaving an indelible mark on dancefloors with its infectious energy. On the flip side, 'Crazy Train' further solidifies the EP's reputation for delivering dancefloor devastation with its powerful beats and wicked energy. The Bassbin Twins remix of 'Loose Caboose' on the B-side adds a new dimension to the track, elevating its trippy vibe to new heights. Overall, Electroliners' Loose Caboose EP is perhaps the pinnacle of west coast breaks.

Diode (12")
Cat: DIAG 067. Rel: 23 Jan 25
Darkwhirl (3:28)
Crimewave (3:46)
Tripwire (3:55)
Shapeshift (3:54)
Antibiotics (3:32)
Polarity (3:06)
Review: Diagonal Records gives itself over to Australian rising star Jonus Eric, who is sure to have a big year if this is anything to go by. His new EP follows on from a fine recent outing on Gerd Janson's Running Back and once again it finds him serving up six tracks of sample-rich, psychedelic house music with a loveably rase aesthetic. it; shard not to hear the sounds of Theo Parrish echoing through the mechanical house sounds of opener 'Darkwhirl' then the funk-driven 'Crimewave' cuts more loose, the gnarly 'Shapeshift' contorts body and mind and 'Polarity' is a 90s IDM-infused finale. What a trip!

Rotating Assembly (B-STOCK) (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: OMNIA 03 (B-STOCK). Rel: 01 Jan 90

B-STOCK: Sleeve split at the top but otherwise in excellent condition
V/Eight (6:52)
Equiponderance (5:10)
Engine Vibration (6:38)
Enfield (6:04)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve split at the top but otherwise in excellent condition***

The man best known as Convextion assumes his ERP aka Event Related Potential alias for four more next level cuts that find him pushing his electro electronics ever more into the future. 'V/Eight' opens with a melancholic bassline under busy drum programming to get things going. 'Equiponderance' is more complex with squirming electronics, more hefty bass notes and serene background pads adding a third dimension. 'Engine Vibration' is a more gritty mix of busy analogue machinery and star-gazing chords then 'Enfield' closes with optimistic sonics and propulsive bouncy bass to end this cosmic cruise on a high.

Chapelle XIV Music Compilation Vol 1 Part III
Chapelle XIV Music Compilation Vol 1 Part III (heavyweight white vinyl 12")
Cat: CHXIV 0003. Rel: 31 Oct 22
NSDOS - "BACT-OS" (5:21)
RRoxymore - "Dirty Spoon" (3:58)
Janeret - "Spacetime" (7:54)
Elli Form - "Mirror" (3:12)
Review: This is space music, but not as we know it. The Chapelle XIV Music universe is a world unto its own, with leftfield designs, haunting celestial atmospheres, and a dark sense of futuristic dystopia. The third part of the first volume of their compilation series is another broad and brilliant one that takes in some cosmic outlying jungle from Frenchmen Janet as well as Elli Form's minimal melodic madness and juke beats on 'Mirror' next to the reflective synths and elastic bass of RRoxymore's 'Dirty Spoon' and NSDOS's refractive world of melodic dreams, 'BACT-OS'.

Deep In Dis V/A
Cat: DIDWAX 004. Rel: 14 Mar 24
Pily - "Bailo En Circuito" (6:26)
Marcos Coya - "Buahh Trance" (6:40)
Prince De Takicardie - "Badalona's House" (First mix) (5:26)
JNJS - "X - Money" (5:07)
Eren Arif - "High Volume" (4:50)
Review: Deep In Dis make a defiant comeback with their latest V/A, across which five new jaunty minimal house cuts are heard. Beginning with an expositional slow-burn - Pily's 'Bailo En Circuito', which samples Alma Matris' vocals - we then move into the juddering trance of 'Buahh Trance' by Marcos Coya and then the first mix of 'Badalona's House' by Prince De Takicardie, the latter of which is far rougher and classic in sound. Jnjs' 'X Money' brings up the B with a UK garage turn, a mood which continues with Eren Arif's 'High Volume'.
