To Chce Mit Svuj System (3:35)
To Chce Mit Svuj System (JD Twitch edit) (5:59)
Review: Lovers of that 80s production aesthetic and sleazy disco sounds, get ready to get excited for this one. 'To Chce Mit Svuj System' is a classic of the genre originally released in 1984, but here professionally remastered with some new reinterpretations and edits. Eva Hurychova & Jan Neckar from former Czechoslovakia wrote the original 7" and Optimo's JD Twitch offers a superb extended edit here that takes you on an ever longer trip. The newly formed pair of Oliver Torr and LBD Sounds label owner Olin aka Torr & Rich slow things down for a dazzling 80s disco version to get you going.

Apocalypse (6:16)
Electronix (6:23)
Firedance (5:40)
Stardriver (5:53)
Review: Following initial appearances on Bahnsteig 23, Jonny 5 returns on the Pleasure Wave label with more of that well-travelled, groovesome voodoo for all manner of sonic wayfarers. "Apocalypse" in particular is a stunning piece of tom-powered menace, but it's quickly offset by the bubbling cosmic delights of "Electronix". "Firedance" on the B-side channels some righteous 80s industrial and synth pop tropes to create it's own kind of drama, and then "Stardriver" finishes the EP off with some pulsing, noirish wave synths and gaseous atmospherics. With the styles shifting from track to track, Jonny 5 has once again done a sterling job of keeping his options open and keeping us locked expectantly into his delirious sound.

Horizons Change
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Etwas stirs in die Ostlich. Edits and verks of twist sounds. Synth pop, cold wave, neu wave, minimal wave, industrial, neu beat, soundtracks and a selbst Balearen. Freiheit! Als erstes is hero of old Cybernetic Broadcast (CBS) and (Intergalatic FM) radio. Jonny 5 and his verstorbenen Blindsign blog and mixes were a steigen'n'steigen to rescue us from boring neu disco. Schieben his search and discovery for harder, but musical soundscapes. 4 edits is a geschmack. Start brave on the floor feel with the Neu Beut Euro Pop thumper Kaka Kaka. Geschleift, verdreht thoughts. Black Hole is hours spent in Eastern Bloc basements graben in the search for drahts. Stoned indeed, immaculate synth electronic battle cruiser, hart percussion, cut gesang and break. Ready for the percussive finale in Horizon's Change. Was Auch Immer. Bahnsteig!

Big Black Coat (album version) (8:48)
Big Black Coat (Robert Hood remix) (7:01)
Review: Matt Didemus and Jeremy Greenspan are back with their first album in five years for City Slang entitled Big Black Coat and this is the remix of the title track issued through Dan Snaith's Jiaolong label. The "Album Version" itself is a sublime and infectious serving of modern synthpop done like only this Canadian duo can. The "Robert Hood Remix" (yes, you've read that correctly!) is definitely the most fierce and club ready rendition the duo have shown us since Marcel Dettmann's terrific remix of "Work" from 2009's Begone Dull Care LP. Mr. Hood's pounding and cyclical hypnotism is unmistakeable as always and he's in fine form here.

Light/New Faith
Hallowed (0.E.P)
Altar [Native States] (feat Scientific Dreamz Of U)
On Distant
Review: Junior Loves has previously been spotted alongside Scientific Dreamz Of U on the excellent The Dreamcode cassette for 1080p back in 2015, and now the spiritually charged producer is stepping out on SDOU-friendly label Tabernacle to impart some well-travelled rhythm science to all astral journeypeople. There's definitely a psyched-out drum circle vibe to "Light/New Faith," but it's shot through with foreboding that makes it all the more alluring. "Hallowed (0.E.P)" is a strafing exercise in space age arpeggios and eerie chords, and the Scientific one lends a hand on the thrumming cosmic engine of "Altar [Native States]."

Ikiryo (7:43)
Review: Having come to light on Optimo Music, The Junto Club now kick off the Snap Crackle & Pop label with a new single that builds on their promising reputation. "Shiviana" is a perfect encapsulation of what the band are about, channelling all kinds of wave styles into their instruments but still coming off sounding contemporary and seductive at once. Khidja comes on board to remix the track, turning it into an acidic burner with a heavy dose of bombast thrown in. "Ikiryo" presents a more post punk side to The Junto Club sound, which Smagghe & Cross then buff up into a crafty electro number for the dancers.

Review: Johnny Jewel has spent the last few years living close to California's arid deserts, something which apparently came as a shock to a musician who has spent most of his life dodging rain and snow in Portland and Montreal. Pining after moisture (his words), the Chromatics main man decided to record an album designed to play "as a singular liquid movement". In a statement accompanying the album, he describes the new age-tinged, ambient set as the aural equivalent of "the ever-changing movement of clouds obscuring the moon". It's an apt description, with sweeping synthesizer movements, gentle melodies and the producer's usual cinematic instincts combining to create a retro-futurist ambient masterpiece.

Review: Here's a question for you: when is a "soundtrack" album not a soundtrack? Windswept, Italians Do It Better man Johnny Jewel's latest impressive full-length, does contain some music commissioned for the soundtrack of the new series of Twin Peaks, but also material composed with no particular film or TV show in mind. Of course, Jewel is a past master at creating emotion-stirring electronic music with a cinematic feel, so it's little surprise that highlights come thick and fast throughout. Check the tumbling synth-jazz of "The Crimson Kiss", the angular hum of "Strobe Lights", the glistening guitar passages of the impeccable "Slow Dreams" and the creepy intensity of "Insomina", an inspired fusion of experimental orchestral glissandos (see The Beatles "A Day in the Life") and creepy sonic textures.

Review: While it was Cliff Martinez who eventually wrote and produced the score for acclaimed movie Drive, it was Jonny Jewel and the Italians Do it Better crew who were originally slated to do it. It's perhaps fitting, then, that Jewel has decided to celebrate the film's fifth anniversary by putting together this brilliant "companion piece". Like the brilliant Symmetry album of a few years back, it's effectively an alternative soundtrack, featuring a combination of soundtrack style compositions originally slated to appear in the movie, and Italians Do it Better material written, recorded and released in the same period. It goes without saying that it's a stunning collection of tracks.

Review: Back on 2013, Johnny Jewel started work on the soundtrack to Daniela Amavia's first feature film, A Beautiful Now. The movie met with mixed reviews on its release in 2015, despite being stylishly shot and featuring a plot based around a dancer's struggles to differentiate between reality and fantasy. Most critics were at least fulsome in their praise for Jewel's soundtrack, which here sees the light of day for one time. Variously moody, trippy, glacial and mind-altering, the album features a mixture of Jewel's instrumentals and similarly minded songs from associated acts (and Italians Do It Better stable-mates) Chromatics, Desire and Glass Candy. The latter's bubbly, late-night synth-pop jam "Beautiful Object" is particularly good.

Evangeline (David Lynch remix)
Evangeline (David Lynch instrumental)
Evangeline (radio edit)
Review: Finnish techno producer turned synth fetishist Jori Hulkonnen and synthesizer legend John Foxx are old pals. Having first collaborated in 2005, they released a further EP in 2008. This third joint excursion is arguably their strongest collective work to date. In parts icy, moody and glacial, it joins the dots between Foxx's seminal early 1980s work, early Detroit techno and contemnporary electronica. Foxx's distinctive voice perfectly suits the duo's atmospheric, melancholic concoctions, leading to a string of notable cuts (see "Evangeline", "Strictly" and "Something is Coming Down The Avenues"). There's also a neat bonus in the form of two clandestine, intoxicating reworks from director-turned-producer David Lynch.
