Density Wave (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: PLANT43 001. Rel: 13 Jul 20
  1. Density Wave

  3. 21 Winters
Review: The first release on Emile Facey's Plant43 Recordings sets the tone for his new label with a showcase of his trademark shimmering, melodic electro. The three tracks take the listener through an array of deeply emotional soundscapes while keeping the electro-funk beats to the fore, another outstanding display of a unique style nurtured through over 20 years of production. A co-founder of London's Bleep43 crew, Facey has been promoting underground electro and techno since the late 90's. As a producer he's been releasing records since 2005 with a string of releases on respected scene favourites such as Central Processing Unit, Frustrated Funk, Semantica, Shipwrec and Cultivated Electronics, among others. He has played live alongside DJ Stingray, ERP/Convextion, Surgeon, Legowelt, DJ Overdose, Urban Tribe, I.F., Svreca, Datassette among many others.

  4. Freakenstein - "Thafonk"
Review: Back once again we have the long anticipated 2nd release from Hearlucinate . Based around a party in London where each guest DJ is asked to collaborate on an EP with the Hearlucinogenic host and resident Tristan da Cunha . This time round we have the uber talented Ron Obvious laying down two killer cuts aimed straight at the dance floor . UK attitude mixes with New Jersey style organs , breaks , bass and a bad ass beats... Giving us two tracks that have an old school flavour but super fresh with a modern aesthetic. Once again showcasing his ability to produce timeless , tasteful grooves that make you move . Next up is TdC with his bass driven hypnotic hybrid sound . Picking up where from the last ep with heavy bottom end , driving beats , a spooky groove , all topped off with a dash of sleaze. To Finish the EP we welcome back Freakenstein with his electro funk monster taking no booty prisoner. Dance floor dynamite as always from this exciting new artist . As always it comes dressed to impress with heavy weight 180g vinyl and artwork from the workshop of Atelier Superplus.

Review: The second release in the exit planet earth compilation vinyl series features four exclusive tracks designed for space travel, including the first ever collaboration between Keith Tucker of Aux 88 and Carl Finlow. The resulting track 'Coder' is an electro masterpiece. The more established electro pairing of Jensen Interceptor and Assembler Code hit heavy with 'Red Cell' while Voitmann brings the bass to space with 'Subtopia'. The record is rounded off beautifully by Cignol with Detroit infused string sections and harmonies on his '51D' track.

Review: Following release on Furthur Electronix, Computer Controlled, AC Records, Lunar Disko, Seagrave, Alphabet Set & more, Irish producer Cignol makes his debut outing on 20/20 Vision with 'Past Futures'. The four track EP serves up potent break beat electro with razor-sharp acid tinges, deep baselines and atmospheric synths.

Cignol's ability to craft emotive soundscapes is exemplified on the opener 'Past Futures' with deep electro groove 'Virtual Array' following up on the A-Side. On the B-side 'Gantm' & 'Lessoned By Lessons' lift the tone into lighter spaces whilst still unfolding emotive melodies and driving break beat grooves.

Review: Andy Jaggers (aka ADJ) is a name that has been synonymous with the underground electro scene since the mid-nineties.

Andy is one of the understated contributors to the sound; in one dimension pushing the music of others in running one of the best record shops London has had to offer (IQ) as well as forming his sonic niche across his labels and own productions.

Andy released his early works as 3 Elements on his own label Analogique, delivering 4 now very hard to find records in between '95 and '96. Unfortunately for us here at knoe towers the source DATs have been lost to the perils of studio moves. Later he would set up Pyramid Transmissions with Pathic to release their own productions and those of likeminded individuals pushing the envelope of the electro sound outside the normally accepted boundaries. Electro as a genre has always sounded like the future however Andy manages to take it into the fifth dimension and beyond, overlaying IDM techniques and soundscapes onto the solid backbone of Detroit electro.

For Those That Knoe has worked extensively with Andy to put together a deliciously cohesive eight-track compilation of his works spanning the more recent period of his production career. The LP includes Pyramid Transmission vinyl favorites, cuts only previously available on his digital albums and some pieces released for the very first time.

Review: Long-serving duo Morphology are the proud owners of one of the most on-point discographies in electro and IDM, though it should be noted that their releases have become far more sporadic in recent years. Here the Finnish pair make their first appearance on Exalt Records and, as expected, they've delivered a terrific EP. The headline attraction is undoubtedly "Quallia", a fine fusion of fizzing, Middle Eastern-influenced melodies, chugging bass, yearning string sounds and off-kilter electro drums. This is remixed twice on the flip. First John Shima gives the track a dreamy, sunrise-ready spin in his effortlessly emotive trademark style, before B12 man Steve Rutter re-imagines it as a melancholic slab of deep electro beauty. A fine EP is completed by "Flatlands", a melodic electro number with a subtly stargazing finish.

On the B side "Boulevard Mystere' is an ode to Boulevard Barbes in Paris, the track is characterised by haunting melodies and a warm analogue bass.B2 is a dreamy and evocative number with the use of Juno 106 spacey sounds and 808 drum patterns.Enigma EP is contemplative, audacious and imaginative.

Review: 2020 marks the tenth of collaboration for Red Axes, the Tel Aviv-based duo of Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi. Informed by post-punk, new wave, and a plethora of club sounds old and new, they have cleaved a singular path with their hefty discography. To celebrate their anniversary, they reunite with Dark Entries for an eponymous 11 track LP brimming with jagged guitars, spacy arpeggios, and hypnotic vocals. Although Sadovnik and Arzi have previously released LPs on I'm A Cliche and Garzen Records, Red Axes is their first effort written and conceived of as an album-length listening experience. This work flows effortlessly through a variety of stylistic detours, highlighting their ears as both keen listeners and skilled DJs. Opener 'They Game' is a grooving number that unifies the psychedelia of cosmic disco with the early 90s 'baggy' sound. The energy mounts further with "Shelera", a guitar-driven acidic banger, and "Sticks and Stones", a certifiable club hit fueled by sassy vocals courtesy of Adi Bronicki. Launching Side B is "Break the Limit", an EBM-laced number that wouldn't sound out of place on a Razormaid compilation. The following tracks wax moodier, with "Brotherhood (Of the Misunderstanding)" touching on darkwave territory. "Udibaby" and "Arpman" close out the album with their respectively dense and sparse takes on kosmische lysergia. Red Axes was mixed by Steve Dub and mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The album's artwork starkly depicts the project's name in blood-red smear. Also included is a postcard with full credits and album art. It's rare one finds an album that so casually challenges classification while still being firmly rooted on the dancefloor.

Review: Stojche is a Berlin-based veteran of labels ranging from Dogmatik right up to a.r.t.less and Tangible Assets, and he's already had a strong 2020 with drops on Sungate and Grounded In Humanity. Now he comes to Infiltrate with some electro-wired sure shots that keep the tempo up, the synth work bold and the moods intense. "Trauma" rides on rich pads and a harmonious monosynth lead, while "Phobia" takes things freakier with some rapid fire percussion and icy stabs. "Thug Life" keeps the pressure up on the flip, albeit with some dubby melodic flex to temper the rabid beats. "Conflict" completes the set with deep-diving top lines and a decidedly nasty low end squelch you could lose your shoes in.

Review: If you can feel a chill in the air it must mean there's more arcane sorcery being cooked up in the Blind Allies labs. This Latvian label are surely providing some of the strongest strains of pitch-black underground electro from lesser known operators in the machine funk catacombs. On this new various artists 12", White Mane Horse and Deputy Bender fire off sleek and sinister rhythms while UHU has a little tongue in cheek fun behind the veil of icy whispered vocals and nervy bleeps on "No Body Knows Electro". Theory Of Noise sound taut and robotic, Olloy keeps things plush but noirish, Rnbws fires off a high-definition sound and Theory Of Noise returns for the simply brilliant "Mission".

  3. Sansibar - "Tamagotchi"
  4. VC-118A - "Moss"
Review: "The third edition of the Exit Planet Earth vinyl series features four more exclusive intergalactic selections from Ralph Lawson.A

'Exit Planet Earth - Nitrogen' features a selection of pioneers and up and coming talent. First up is a true legend of the UK electro scene, Keith Tenniswood aka 'Radioactive Man', who creates a constantly evolving sonic trip called 'One Out'. Watch out for the surprise sting in it's tail too. Sharing the A side is the incredibly talented Spanish producer Annie Hall, arriving fresh from her stunning CPU releases. Annie creates melodic landscapes, layered with intricate string orchestration driven by deep bass.A

On the flip side Helsinki-based Sunny Seppa aka Sansibar shows exactly why he is fast becoming hot property following his immense debut album on FTP - 'Targeted Individuals'. ASansibar brings the record back to the 4/4 with a flowing yet subtle working of synths and pads. Also based in Finland yet hailing from Holland is VC-118A, who previously caught our attention with his track 'PCB' a firm favourite at Exit Planet Earth events. VC118-A delivers some deep space dub with expertly crafted production centring on low end theory.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Hitting its stride under the umbrella of Burnski's Constant Sound label, Infiltrate serves up round two from lesser-known talent Pakzad. The electro vibes are dark and deadly on this record, leading in with the murky, dubbed out delights of "Slave" before swerving into the crisp machine funk workout "Rebelion." The Infiltrate remix of "Tension" opens up the B-side with some sinister synth pulses strafing across the low mids and a constant unease courtesy of the sustained strings, contrasting the more playful programming of Pakzad's original. This is classy, hyper modern electro that taps into the current wave of the genre perfectly.

Review: Alex Jann comes to Infiltrate having already sown his febrile brand of electro around labels like Censor and Unknown To The Unknown. He's sounding fierce and fired up on "Moderated Lies", all slamming b-lines and strafing sound FX. "Least Resistance" is a slower, creepier number, while "Propeller" brings things back up to a seriously high tempo for the paciest electro spinners to get fresh with. "Logicphrenia" smacks somewhere in the middle, dropping the kind of hi-tech sound you'd expect from Silicon Scally. Classy stuff indeed.

Review: Marco Lazovic has been burning up dancefloors for over four years with his potent blend of house grooves and feisty jungle breakbeats, and so it continues on this new drop for Craft Music. "Dance System" is predominantly shaped out by gorgeous Detroit-inspired synths, but there's also some seriously spicy breaks choppage going off throughout the track. "The Dredwerkz" is a tight and punchy electro jam with plenty of melodic delights fluttering around the 808 drums, while "Daydreaming" gets further up the tempo range to outright ambient jungle a la early Good Looking. "End Theme" stays in jungle mode for an acute exercise in classic rollage.
