Absolute Zero & Subphonics - "The Code" (SKC remix) (5:13)
Noisia & The Upbeats - "Sacrifice" (6:11)
Digital & Spirit - "No Fear" (6:06)
Gremlinz & Overlook - "Horns 2015" (6:00)
Review: For those who appreciate the harder, more twisted side of D&B, no label can match up to the stature of Renegade Hardware. It's been some time since the legendary imprint let fly with some wax, but they've kicked off the From The Vaults series to go back over some of the most important releases in their massive catalogue and give the most worthy a fresh moment in the sun. Following on from landmark EPs from Chase & Status and Total Science, here's a VA disc featuring absolute devastation from Absolute Zero & Subphonics, gnarly acrobatics from the imperious Noisia and The Upbeats, an icy stalker from Digital and Spirit and classic 'Horn Track' sampling hi-jinx from Gremlinz and Overlook.

Soligen & Type-2 - "Can't Go" (Break remix) (6:07)
Break - "Coming 4 U" (5:16)
Jade - "What You Are" (Break remix) (5:05)
Review: The legendary Fokuz label outta the Netherlands hits a 110th release and opts for a selection of remixes from various artists. AirK & Cephei open up with 'Desire,' a slick roller with booming bass and epic synths. Break then comes through with tight remix of A2 Soligen & Type 2 's 'Can't Go' complete with expertly design hits. Break then goes it alone on the original 'Coming 4U' with its low end oscillations and closes out the EP back in remix mode. His take on 'What Are You' is a roaming, textural affair with twisted leads and flurries of toms.

Allen Scott - "In This World"
Soligen & Type 2 - "One More"
Review: More anniversary action from the Dutch dynamos... First up is Soul Deep founder and LA D&B badman Scott Allen who fuses big funk with reggae as a full bodied horn sample drops into the sweetest skank you'll hear all summer. Want to celebrate Fokuz's 15th birthday with something a little darker? Jump on Soligen & Type 2's "One More": Cutty, jumpy jungle that slaps relentlessly with twisted ragga samples and an uncompromising dynamic, it's not dissimilar to Dom & Roland's "Unofficial Jah". And, as you know, comparisons to Dom don't come lightly!

DC Breaks - "Slugs"
Rene Lavice - "Portland"
Stealth - "Nightfall" (feat Codebreaker)
Dose - "Bounce Off"
Review: The second instalment of the Nightlife 6 EP, it's yet another picture perfect snapshot of modern day D&B taken by Andy C. DC Breaks take the lead with the razor-sharp steps and bruising bass burps of "Slugs" and LaVice follows with the almighty drone attack "Portland". Conjuring up memories of Full Cycle in their prime, it's a timeless hurter. Stealth & Codebreaker take us to the darkest possible corners with a punishing amen attack while Dose's "Bounce Off" lives up to its name in every way. Exceedingly heavy.

Spor & Phace - "Dying Off The Light"
Review: From the label that sent sparks flying last year, the third eagerly awaited release from Lifted Music is here to impressively kick start 2008.
'From The Inside Out' sees the collaboration of superior artists Spor, Apex, Ewun, Evol Intent, and Phace. This double 12" is proof there's
no holding back this year. With strong DJ support across the board, even Andy C hasn't missed this one - each and every set for months.
A must have for any realist d&b head.

ASC - "The Noncolour Entity"
Vaccine - "Irradiate"
Sam KDC - "Lovesick"
ASC & Synth Sense - "Glimpse"
Review: Limited to a pressing of just 250 (with a promise of no represses) this clear vinyl release is special in every sense. Powered by some of the most exciting names on the fringes of bass and electronica; each of the four cuts strut with raw melodic futurism. "The Noncolour Entity" rumbles with a dubby techno groove a la Funk D'Void. "Irradiate" comes with an almost Bonobo-like dreaminess while "Lovesick" shakes and shudders with a sub-soaked groove and bright, bold swinging breakbeats. "Glimpse" closes the show on a timeless analogue note. Coming on strong like an old Guy Called Gerald record, it's all synths and classic electro breakbeats. Outstanding.

Black Sun Empire & State Of Mind - "Ego" (6:07)
Black Sun Empire & State Of Mind - "Jack Nicholson" (4:33)
Review: Some of the biggest D&B cuts delivered so far this year, the digital release of "Until The World Ends" has caused so much havoc BSE can finally unleash the vinyl versions. And boy do they sound better for it on wax. From the savage roughage of the State Of Mind-co-piloted title track to the demonic, psy-minded techno bluntness of the riff on "Ego" via the planet-wide rips on "Bad", this is essentially a blue-print on how to creatively develop viciously dark, neuro drum & bass without compromise. Shucks, they've even got a tribute to one of the best actors of the past 50 years. Wave your white flags now.

Review: Five men on a violent mission: Dutch trio Black Sun Empire and New Zealand duo State Of Mind have been collaborating since 2008 with consistently huge results. Following last year's "Until The World Ends" comes another quartet of hurters; The Audio-on-steroids "Thug" was the first to be unleashed earlier this year to rapturous response. It's now joined by the equally gnarly "Pull The Trigger", the Tiki-fronted punk-like "Skin Crawler" and the metallic techno odyssey "Kill That Noise". Violence never sounded so good.

Review: Long-time Shy FX collaborator, Boomah has been blessing cuts with his bubbling, melodic vocals for years. Now with an album lined up on Bryan Gee's V, big things are finally about to happen. Big things like "Forward Ever", an old school homage with a spitfire vocal soundclash as Boomah goes toe-to-toe with Serocee, Aries and Gold. There's no stopping on the remix front as Unreal ups the tempo for some all-out laser-reaching D&B action. Keep looking forward.

The Touch (3:51)
Review: Russian donny deepsmiths Bop and Subwave team up for the first post-Med School (RIP) signing to Hospital and it's a bit of a special one. A full showcase of styles, it gives us much more than you'd ever expect from either individual. "Teardrops" is a glistening oceanic steppy, all spiralling, cosmic and sensual in all the right places, "Space Warp" is the dancefloor bomb of the package with its swooping droning bassline, "Don't Wake Me Up" takes us into shoegazing, head-tickling indie dance territory while "The Touch" closes on a sexy UKG tip that none of us would expect from the duo. What an impressive debut collaborative EP statement, we can't wait to hear what's next.

Brain Crisis & Spline - "Mad" (5:17)
Brain Crisis - "Camatcho" (5:16)
Review: TeeBee's Subtitles Music operation are on fairly unstoppable form right now and their latest 12" drop offers an enlightening glance into the label's near future - it's an exciting place clearly! The appropriately titled Mad pairs up Russian producer Brain Crisis with Spline for two of the nastiest drum and bass cuts we've subjected the Juno office stereo to this week. "Mad" is as hard and heavy as they come; perhaps that's why the punishing beats momentarily drop away to briefly allow some breathing space soundtracked by plucked guitar before the madness descends again. If anything "Camatcho" is more of a skull crusher and it has us quite excited for the upcoming album on Subtitles from Brain Crisis.

Luch & Joakuim - "Lifespan" (5:41)
Review: Since 2003, the Intrigue crew has been providing Bristol clubbers with regular doses of liquid funk and musically expansive drum and bass, first at their regular parties and, since 2008, on their offshoot label. Predictably, there's much to enjoy on this celebratory 12". Old pal Break steps up first with a veritable warm summer breeze of a roller, "Mind's Eye" - all punchy, snare-heavy beats, acoustic guitars, rumbling bass and dreamy freestyle vocals - before Superior Selectionz and Ben Soundscape join forces for the slightly more weighty but no less attractive "Justa". Over on side B, Soundscape returns to action alongside Ryogreen and Protone on the wobble bass-propelled stepper "Ruffneck", while Lurch - a lesser-known stalwart of the Bristol scene - delivers some delicious, Afro-tinged liquid funk alongside Joakuim. Rock solid.

Review: Clash of the modern day titans right here as Break and Survival collide for a sizzling workout of glitchy, steppy riddims. As you'd expect from the pair, "Stano" is sharper than a drag queen's put downs and full of interesting sonic twists and turns. Fans of both Symmetry and Dispatch output should go mental for it. Flipwise we find Survival going solo for "Going Over". A deeper, more quintessential rolling affair, check those meaty one-note subs and you'll be all over this. Heavyweight stuff.

Review: Ploughing into the club with pure murkery and venom, Italian crew Butu Yard lay down a 150 piece on Matera-based label. Sitting somewhere between Biome and Strategy, it's thick, oily, industrial strength badness that's primed for system demolition as 2022 progresses and things open up more. Amplified on the B by a turbo-charged jungle twist from Sativa Club where the powerful vocal and heavy bass textures are maintained beneath some rampant 160 breaks work.

Cern & Dabs - "Oh The Horror"
Dabs & Safire - "Back & Forth"
Review: Dispatch are chuffed to present a truly international 12" with 3 producers cross-collaborating worldwide to present this powerful bass
heavy release. We start on the A-side with arguably New Zealand's finest export Cern collaborating with wonder kid Dabs hailing from
Italy, they both provide some real dance floor power in the form of "Oh the Horror". Dabs then works his way back over to the other
side of the globe Australia bound to work alongside rising talent Safire! They both bring us a modern day roll-out "Back and Forth" on
the flip... To make this story even more hard to explain the 2 tracks ended up on a UK based label however as far as we saw it the
instant we heard these 2 tracks we had to make sure Dispatch would become their home.
Huge support from the likes of Rockwell (both tracks featured on Shogun Ministry radio show), AI, Ant TC1, Spectrasoul (Shogun
Ministry radio show), Dose, Octane & DLR, Survival, BTK, Doc Scott, Kasra, Judda, Nymfo, Teebee and more.

Chippie - "Big Grey Wolf" (7:27)
Blame & Seba - "Liquid Electricity" (6:07)
Review: Violet Night Recordings continue to bring life to old DATs and tracks that may never have seen the light of day. This time the bossman Chippie steps up with 'Big Grey Wolf', a breezy, cosmic take on the deeper sound. Very late 90s/early 2000s in its early in-the-box digital sounds but still carrying plenty of weight, it's one for the dreamers. Meanwhile on the B we have two legends Blame and Seba with 'Liquid Electricity'. Springy, jazzy and written at some point in the early 2000s, it captures both artist's nose for groove, sense of space and cosmic character. What a piece of history.

Review: Emerging US label Rhythm Syndicate collide into our lives with this exemplary quartet from two well-established rising talents. UK's Conspire take the A-side with two dark liquid gems. 'Deep Beat' nods its hat to Goodlooking with its bulging subs and jazzy flourishes while 'Late Night' maintains the emotions but adds more amen tension. Flip for the similarly barbed sounds from Serbia's Soul Connection. 'Dub Music' brings a meditative edge with its humming low end and dub influences while 'Keep Me High' brings the EP to a majestic, cosmic close. Precision timed for the sunnier months, Rhythm Syndicate have all the right ducks in a row here.

Once again, it's all previously unreleased business but there's a twist... One of these tracks is actually brand new as Marvellous Cain links up with new producer Sound Shifter for the Good Looking-esque 'Light Source One'. Elsewhere we have Cool Hand Flex's signature choppage and funk on 'Get Down' (a tune which only he, Randall and Hype ever had on dub), we've got more excellent choppage on a very rare DJ Phantasy remix of Sophisticated Bad Boyz 'Feel The Magic' before Dead Dred's Asend digs out the badboy fire of 'Intelone', a track he only ever played once on Kool FM way back in 96, never to see the light of day... As you'd expect, it's an all-out assault as Current Value leads the charge with a sizzling neuro racer "Pelham 212", the ever-innovative Billain tumbles behind with "Metal Jaws", a loose and frantic cut with drums that really shouldn't make sense, but definitely do. dBridge - "Plain To See"
Review: Fresh from overseeing that excellent second Mosaic compilation, Exit Records boss D Bridge aligns on R&S Records with the heavy-duty 3 track Move Way EP. Given the label's recent techno centric direction, the presence of D Bridge on R&S might be surprising to some, yet the producer's work pioneering the Autonomic approach demonstrates his appeal stretches far beyond the realm of Drum & Bass. From the off, there are levels of outright rudeness that few can match, with the title track adopting a highly pressurised junglist swagger that's made all the more deadly by the snarling, aggressive vocal sample. Alongside this "Death Of A Drum Machine" sounds like the kind of vintage jazz flecked rollers Amon Tobin first made his name on, with added B movie Horror strings, whilst "Plain To See" applies the Autonomic approach to fizzing, downtempo synth play.

Review: Following their reunion on Metalheadz earlier this year, the legendary partnership of Digital & Spirit return to their spiritual home Phantom Audio with four mammoth jungle gems... Ageless, uncompromised and galvanised with a certain sense of dark danger, each cut hits hard. "Vision" is the stepper for set with its Dispatch-style bass plucks, "Heaven" is a skippy, subby early 90s homage, "Stage Fright" is all drama and drums (think late 90s Doc Scott) while "Square One" is an amen frenzy laced with ghostly cries and bowel-battering subs. The title track rides roughshod on a mean ghetto, almost jukey groove, all chopped up and sleazy. "Redo", meanwhile, looks back to look forward - a super-charged jungle breakbeat tear-up that growls with attitude and swaggers with cymbal-splashing fervour, it reminds us why the pair were so respected in the first place.

One of the most exciting prospects in the half-step scene, his delivery is up there with Dub Phizix in the unique stakes. This trippy, spliced, slo-mo jungle mix being no exception. Review: Digital Soundboy plough forward with another two tracker courtesy of DJ Marky and Spy. "Riff Raff" has crunching breaks, lightning quick percussion, swirling sub bass and a wonderfully unique brass laden funky breakdown. "Time Moves On" takes on a grimier sound but still drops some exquisite breakdowns.

The Very Last Drop

The DJ Producer - "The Very Last Drop" (6:24)
SMYLA - "Psychadelix" (6:45)
Review: Uncompromised breakbeat mayhem: Bristol crew Our Fucking Jungle invite two titans of the hardcore D&B scene for a double-sided damage platter. The legend that is The DJ Producer kicks off with a wily, turbo-charged slammer that's riddled with edits, twisted drum reveals and sudden plunges into wall of sound sonic hurricanes. SMYLA follows suit with a more industrial drum set, demonically downpitched reeses and a groove that won't let up for anyone.

GLXY & DRS - "These Lights" (5:24)
Moby - "Porcelain" (Pola & Bryson remix) (5:29)
Serum, Paul T & Edward Oberon - "Burning" (5:58)
Review: Friction's Shogun imprint launch the Shuriken series; a deep dig into the vaults to give select tracks a little vinyl spotlight. Limited and not to be repressed, the inaugural volume is packed with four thick slabs of Shogun's broad pie on a delicious green 12" platter; Document One's unique bass tripper "LSD", GLXY & DRS's introspective "These Lights", Pola & Bryson's starlit take on "Porcelain" and the evergreen soulful wobbler "Burning" from the dream trio that is Serum, Paul T & Edward Oberon all map out the label's breadth and extremities with precision.

Right Back

Right Back (original mix)
Right Back (Break remix)
Review: Long running Bristol crew Dr Meaker surface on V Recordings with a vinyl issue of "Right Back", the fans favourite which features the distinctive tones of Sian Evans. Initially released digitally through Circus last month and backed with a slew of remixes, it's nice to see the good Doctor right back on the vinyl format and on V, with Break's excellent remix also making the cut. In the Beatmaker legend's hands, "Right Back" is truly transformed with Break cutting into the drop in a stunningly stark way, weaving dark drums magic the only way he can.

Ed It & Pennygiles - "Set Theory" (Ulterior Motive remix) (4:46)
St Files & Response - "Wanna B 3" (6:19)
Total Science & FD - "Found A Reason Why" (6:25)
Villem & McLeod - "Strange You" (4:56)
Review: Player central: Not one artist on this EP doesn't command serious respect. Ed:It and Pennygiles's 2014 firecracker gets the treatment from Ulterior Motive, adding just a lick or two of shade to the already solid groove. ST Files and Response follow with a beautifully restrained deep stepper that's not dissimilar to erstwhile ST collaborator Marcus Intalex. Total Science and FD maintain the deep theme with a soulful rolling track that's not dissimilar to their Funky Technicians material. Villem and McLeod anchor the EP with a unique halftime roll that balances dark and light tighter than your nan's 1950s television. A truly spotless EP.

Smoke The Weed
Joker Smoker
Review: You don't get much more junglistic than Ed Solo and on this latest release from Jungle Cakes, you've guessed it, some sticky, sweet jungle is the order or the day. "Smoke The Weed" is a classic jungle mashup, and with Canadian bass master Stickybuds on hand to provide some serious breaks it quickly escalates to an all-out skanking session. Before you can pass it on, "Joker Smoker" adds retro brass and guitar to build the reggae funk as the track fragments into not one but two different breakdowns providing the basis for some serious dancefloor workouts. Don't sleep on this.

Emery & Garo - "Moon Love" (feat Umiko - Lynx remix) (4:36)
Simplification - "Love Forever" (Random Movement remix) (6:51)
Review: Longtime Lithuanian compadres Emery and Garo lay down a skillishly jittering vocal roller that sits somewhere between the smooth, silky lines of Bop and the more soulful work of Break. Flip for a powerful rump-shaking remix from Random Movement who switches up Simplification's "Love Forever" into a chop-slapping juicy bass groove. Jumping.
