Forever In Boccaccio
In Love With A Girl That Doesn't Exist
Jambers At Carat Afterclub
The Return Of Van Rossem
Review: Betonkust has been spotted lurking in the realm of seedy late night body music alongside artists such as Palmbomen II, landing his noirish wares on 1080p, Pinkman and most notably Dekmantel. Now he makes the logical leap to Crimes of The Future alongside equally accomplished Belgian producer Innershades, previously spotted on Wicked Bass, Creme Organization, Hot Haus and many more besides. The sound on Forever In Boccaccio is totally fitting for Crimes of The Future, all muscular drum machines beats and analogue synth lines angled to send a shiver down your spine. Watch out for the unexpected rave hit of "Jambers At Carat Afterclub" which comes on strong with some fist-shaking peak time Euro techno motifs.

Forever In Boccaccio (7:16)
In Love With A Girl That Doesn't Exist (6:43)
Jambers At Carat Club (4:35)
The Return Of Van Rossem (4:38)
Review: A repress of Innershades & Betonkust's 2018 new beat sensation 'Forever In Boccaccio!' has long been requested by hardcore record collectors. And now it has become available and has been fully remastered and housed in a new sleeve design, limited to just 300 copies. It was first made, according to the two being it, in January 2017 "under grey Belgian skies," when they had been consuming lots of acid and new beat, which of course shows. The title cut is brilliantly dark and gothic but is backlit by haunting vocal harmonies and underpinned by a menacing bassline. The three other cuts explore similar moods and grooves with great authenticity.

CH415 - "Spaze Modulations" (4:23)
Review: Binary thinking has been around since the invention of coinage in ancient times. Indeed, there are two sides to every coin, or slab of vinyl. It's this seeming representation of two poles - heads or tails, 0 or 1, the spiritual world and the physical - that has led us to polemicize them in art, exploring either extreme playfully. On one end of the extreme you've got ultra-lofty new age music. On the other end, there are releases like 'Blue Binary Code', in this case hailing from Spanish label and musical assembly line, Gladio Operations. Their camp specialise in the kind of merciless, rationally-calculating, dystopically functional, robotic electro we all know and love, and these four new tracks, adding once again to their prolifically generative output, range from the scientific and gnarly ('Agitated Particles') to the surreal and sanitized ('NH3'). Of course, what is electro but a mere Operation?

Wolf 359 (5:28)
Review: When ambient soundscapes and electro design combine as well as they do on the opening track here, 'Il Tempo E Lo Spazio', you cannot fail to be impressed. It's a scene setting opener from Roberto Bosco and Il Cornonauta that immediately wins you over before 'Accelerazione' takes you to a higher level of electro funk on 'Velocita' Costante' which might just be the EP highlight. The high speed and high tech electro soul of 'Wolf 359' sure does give it a run for its money, though.

Intervalo - "Solitude" (5:47)
Garate - "Larga" (4:16)
Tio Solo - "Dark Fluid" (5:00)
Review: Undancel is a new label out of Spain that announces itself with a various artists EP, Alternative Sound Concept. It is electro much at heart but explores a wide sphere of sound on the periphery of the genre, and the dance floor, and the universe. Caradusanto kicks off with the silvery claps and retro-future basslines of 'Semillas' then Dark Vektor's 'En Mitg De L'Espai' brings some nice snappy snares and vocoder vocals. Intervalo's 'Solitude' layers up colourful arps full of hope over raw drum loops and Garate's 'Larga' picks up the pace with more direct drums and rubbery bassline designed for serious shape-shifting. Tio Solo closes down with the more cinematic 'Dark Fluid.'

She Can't Love You (original mix) (6:37)
She Can't Love You (Egyptian Lover mix) (6:28)
Maxx E (6:38)
Review: Under the Danced Til Midnight alias, DJ Andy Anderson has always produced music that eschews easy categorization. His two previous 12" singles successfully blended elements of funk, soul, disco, hip-hop, house and Afrobeat. This madcap, all-that-counts-is-the-dancefloor feel is continued on "She Can't Love You", which laces Ijeoma's soulful, R&B style vocal over a backing track that variously doffs a cap to fuzzy funk, boogie, breakbeat and disco-house. Similar could be said about the more breakbeat-minded "Maxx E", which feels like a reworked instrumental dub of the title track. Speaking of reworks, the EPs's highlight is arguably Egyptian Lover's punchy electro remake of "She Can't Love You".

Dark Vektor - "Amb La Mirada Ens Menjarem" (5:42)
Synth Alien - "Replica Cosmica" (5:57)
Imiafan - "Stupaj" (Keen K RMX) (5:11)
Wardum - "Wrambling" (5:46)
Review: The world of dark disco tech is vast and so covers plenty of niches and nuances with artists all over the world adding their voice to the conversation. Spanish label Waste Editions offers up four more to the mix here with another well-assembled VA. Dark Vektor's 'Amb La Mirada Ens Menjarem' begins with some synth sounds that evoke a horror scene over snappy drums and sleazy guitar riffs. Synth Alien's 'Replica Cosmica' gets a little more loose but still comes with evocative vocal samples and a characterful world of synth sounds, some that fart, some that gurgle, some that amuse. Imiafan's 'Stupaj (Keen K RMX)' is another prying, loopy sound brought to life with myriad effects, textures and vocal snippets and Wardum shuts down with 'Wrambling' which has grinding bass and scuttling effects topped with occult vocals.

IXRQ - "Robotic Nature" (5:57)
Eargoggle & Obergman - "Macho Macho" (6:31)
Suiciders - "Trainwreck" (6:09)
Review: Stilleben's latest EP is a no-holds-barred, all-action affair that gathers together previously unheard cuts from a quintet of label associates. Boss man Luke Eargoggle is naturally involved, with his hook-up with Swedish veteran Ola Bergman - the angular analogue bass, Italo-disco influenced grooves and shimmering chords of "Macho Macho" - being amongst the EP's many highlights. You'll find more razor-sharp, mind-altering robo-bass propelling Das Muster's brilliant opener "Sinnestauschung" towards the electro stratosphere, while IXRQ's "Robotic Nature" brilliantly combines ghostly, crystalline synthesizer melodies with a suitably dirty, club-ready electro groove. The most intense and sweaty cut of the lot, though, is Suicider's suitably dystopian and psychedelic closing cut "Trainwreck".

Syracuse & Epsilove - "Scubatomic Love" (4:35)
Palms Trax - "Honey Lemongina" (4:45)
Interstellar Funk - "EFX Harmonix" (6:43)
Review: For the fourth volume in their tenth anniversary series, Dekmantel has decided to go all-out electro. Wisely, they've recruited scene legend the Egyptian Lover to kick things off. His "This That Old Skool" is an unashamed romp through early '80s nostalgia, with the eccentric producer peppering a sturdy TR-808 beat pattern with exotic synth lines, "Tour De France"-style heavy breathing and raw vocoder vocals. Syracuse and Epsilove wrap their skittish electro beats in chiming melodies, trippy acid lines and dreamy vocal snatches ("Scubatomic Love"), while Palms Trax necks a fistful of anti-depressants and delivers the pure endorphin rush that is the melodious and spacey "Honey Lemongina". Finally, fast-rising producer Interstellar Funk offers up a lesson in melodious electro/techno fusion on the standout "EFX Harmonix".

Review: Smoking hot 2nd release from Brooklyn's Breaking News label with Elevator Man on the production & featuring Illspree on the mic. "Give It To Me" is a 'tough as nails' electro breakbeat track with a monster modulating bassline, 808 drums & creepy chords giving the track a Touching Bass vibe. On the flip "Move" a midtempo freaked-out breaks burner with a touch of dubstep thrown in & heavily effected Jamaican vocals. There is also a dub version included using only small vocal snippets.

Itpdwip - "It Doesn't Hurt Me" (5:09)
Itpdwip - "Waters Of Styx" (4:08)
Itpdwip - "Waters Of Styx" (Jeremiah R remix) (3:34)
Review: Warsaw based imprint Get The Balance have demonstrated an interest in retro-inspired sounds of Chicago House and Detroit Techno on previous releases but now venture into electro territory with this various artists compilation. Ever Moving's "Find A Way" may sound contradictory at start with its gentle, house style keys on top of a dark, booming Aaron Carl style bass groove, but it actually works. Mutual Attraction's "New Horizon" is simply stunning, a soulful house journey reminiscent of classic Chez Damier or Larry Heard. There are then two electro tracks by Greek electro auteur Itpdwip in the shape of "It Doesnt Hurt Me" and The Waters Of Styx" which sound like early Model 500. It's the Jeremiah R remix of the latter is a real highlight on here, channelling the best impression of Gerald Donald we've heard of late.

Ivna Ji - "Rescape" (6:19)
Review: 20/20 Vision are exiting planet Earth once again with the latest in their perfectly formed series of electro explorations, as Extrawelt leads the charge with an illustrious slice of braindance-tinted funk titled 'Hail The Whale (Coexisting Mix)'. Djedjotronic follows that up with a bold blast of mammoth synth work which hits pretty damn hard without being pointlessly brutal. Ste Roberts takes a break from his self-titled label run to offer up a freaky foray into acid-speckled territory, and Ivna Ji gets expressive with a rich palette of synths moving in harmony around a sharp and snappy beat.

Review: This time last year, Jimi Disko's excellent Emotions Electric label invited us to traverse 'Planetary Highways' in the company of a range of stargazing electro and techno producers. On 'The Outerworld', he opts for a similar approach, with four more talented producers delivering decidedly intergalactic and sci-fi seeped workouts. Innate co-founder Gilbert kicks things off with 'Fractals', a melodious, undeniably intergalactic chunk of widescreen deep electro brilliance, before Sound Synthesis wraps shimmering pads, melancholic chords and undulating acid lines around punchy electro beats and deep sub-bass on the similarly sublime 'Science of Gratitude'. Over on side B, INFO pays tribute to Warp's peerless Artificial Intelligence series with the shuffling and spacey 'Remember', while RekaB's 'Smooth Lines' is warm, woozy and effortlessly immersive.

Review: Pau Roses and Adria launched Cupula last year with a collaborative 12" which showcased their particular approach to the tech house scene, where acidic and rave influences can slip into sleek beat structures to make for dancefloor magic. That theme continues on this split release, which invites the likes of Hypnofriends, Saverio Celestri and Innershades to lay down their own machine-powered jams for the freakier kind of floor. If you want to have a lot of fun and grease the crowd up good and proper, these tracks have got you covered.

Review: It's been 22 years since the release of I-F's razor-sharp Dutch electro anthem, "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass". Given the upsurge in interest in electro of late, it's little surprise to see the man himself offering up this reissue, which is focused around two previously digital-only revisions that first landed back in 2010. Stretched out across the A-side is the brilliant - and undeniably mind-altering - "XL Remix", a nine-minute revision that gives greater prominence to the producer's twisted electronic riffs, industrial strength melodies and dusty drum machine percussion. This time round, it comes accompanied by both a vocoder-free Instrumental take and "Pong's Run", a lesser-known collaboration with Intergalactic Gary that's slow, spacey, out-there and thoroughly intoxicating.
