Review: Vancouver's temple of lo-fi house returns with Braden Thompson aka Riohv, a producer originally from Saskatchewan, but now based out of Montreal via a spell in the capital Ottawa. Thompson is quoted as saying that his music "has a dual purpose; it has a place on the dance floor, but at the same time it's definitely something that someone could just zone out to" and this is evident on the Green Room EP. It starts out with the soulful and emotive electro of "Redux" followed by the rather "Sueno Latino" sounding title track which soon turns into some early '90s breakbeat driven rave anthem. Review: Route-8 is a Budapest producer and this is his much anticipated debut LP. But the story is that it almost didn't happen because the original album was lost when the artist and his fellow Lobster Theremin crew had all their stuff knocked in Detroit while on tour of the US. However Route 8 began re-piecing the record back together and thankfully here it is. It's an album of causing house and techno tunes indebted to the sound of the American mid-west. Far sighted pads, deep beats, balmy ambience are all present and correct and make this a mini classic.
