Set in Parma, Italy, the film follows Michele, a penniless poker player, whose rock-bottom recourse, born of gambling debts, is to become a prostitute. Scored by Italian erotic film greats Gianfranco Plenizio and Alessandro Alessandroni - two virtuosi of great late 60s and early 70s eminence - we hear a teasing, undying vibe of irreverence here, with tempt-estuous vocals and pizzicato string tickles making light of the lurid relational meeting of minds and bodies that drives the film's action.

Review: Human novae of the 1950s jazz circuit in Hollywood, Curtis Amy and Frank Butler imploded the local scene at the turn of the swinging decade when they began to record for local label Pacific Jazz. Laid down in a single session at the PJ studio, Groovin' Blue is a timeless and idiosyncratic experiment in jazz, its specialty being tss-tss rhythms, unhindered lead instrumental melisma, sax counterpoint, and smackout drum fills and solos from Butler, which more than transcended the strictures of the swing form of the time. Also hearing vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, who was just 19 years old at the time of this recording, this excellent six-song set is perfect for those audiophiles keen on the interesting intersection of blues and jazz.

Review: You have a genuine piece of musical history here. The Anchors may not be remembered by many, but made a significant impact on everyone who does. Black Soul is the third and - to all musicologist knowledge - last record put out by this pioneering South African funk-soul outfit. Straight out of the Johannesburg township of Alexandria at the height of Apartheid, they became known for exceptional musicianship and reinterpreting the classic Memphis, USA sound for their own oppressed community. Part three of that legacy takes things much, much further, though. So, we can definitely still hear those Mid South sounds that represent the very essence of soul, but here the aesthetic becomes something altogether different, Afro and specific to time and place. Homage paid to the genre founders, but drawing on personal circumstances to own things for themselves.

The first performance in January featured Tatsuhisa Yamamotoon on drums and the second in February made up a quartet formation with the addition of bassist Hitoshi Watanabe. Review: Sensory Blending hears Finnish artist Jimi Tenor and Italian group Aura Safari team up for an impromptu studio shebang in Perugia, Italy, after Tenor's storied but clandestine performance at a Hell Yeah party. Despite no prior connection, the musicians quickly found common ground, forging a vivant fusion of jazz-funk, tropicalia and soul. Tenor's psychedelic style gelled Aura Safari's faster, intuited approach, resulting in such tracks as 'Bodily Synesthesia,' 'Bewitched By The Sea' and 'Lunar Wind', each of which connect seductive grooves and ghost noted keys. Possibly performed live at select events later in the year, the record is a perfect storm of recorded "live feel" Balearica.

Steering away from her original, traditional Brazilian bossa nova, Gilberto embraced a North American jazz influence here. A young Gary Burton is heard on vibraphone, with Kenny Burrell also on guitar, Gene Cherico on bass, and Joe Hunt on drums - some further percussive substitutions by Helcio Milito (drums) and Chuck Israels (bass) appear in later sets. At the time, Astrud was not a professional singer, but she was asked to sing with Getz because her spouse, fellow bossa nova chanteur João Gilberto, was reluctant to sing in English.
