Review: For a man whose legendary status has long been assured - he was, after all, the original cosmic disco DJ - it would be fair to say that Daniele Baldelli's production record is patchy, at best. It's heartening to report, then, that Cosmic Drag, his first solo full-length since 2009, is arguably his strongest release to date. Typically trippy and blessed with both psychedelic electronics, and vintage analogue synthesizers, it joins the dots between experimental Italian synth-wave, chugging electronic disco, yearning drum machine funk, glassy-eyed soundscapes and pitched-down disco-funk, all the while sounding like it could have been recorded in the DJ's late '70s and early '80s heyday.

Marcos Cbral - "Prefer To Smoke Alone"
Sect - "Thieve Scrilla"
Mugwump - "Dissidaze"
Review: Endless Flight cull a trio of exclusive cuts from the fourth volume of their I'm Starting To Feel OK mix series and place them across both sides of what is an essential 12 inch. Marcos Cabral drops a rare solo original production in "I'd Rather Smoke Alone" which adds some vintage Detroit sounds to the trademark retro house jacking rhythms, lots of soaring string arrangements, subtle percussion and key flourishes. Cabral is kept in good company with Soul Clap once again adopting their Sect alias on "Thieve Scrilla" with the Boston duo crafting a particularly dirty central bass melody. On the flip Belgian duo Mugwump add further credence to what's been a brilliant year with "Dissidaze2 which mutates back and forth from a menacing noirish acid throb into an unusually perky synth stomp several times over.

Assado
Everybody Stand Around
Give It To Me
Review: Killer Endless Flight 12" debut for the Creative Swing Alliance duo of Pablo Valentine and Steven Joyce Ames - two names that should be familiar to the deep house cognoscenti! Valentine runs the MCDE label, while Ames has been responsible for drops on Compost, Soultronik and Jazzmin, though together as Creative Swing Alliance they're on another level. As lead track "Assado" slips into action, those thick bass drum kicks are soon consumed by a richly detailed procession of textures, dub laden vocal edits and percussion that collectively glower with resplendent energy. Alongside this, the detuned jazz thonk of "Everybody Stand Around" gets a much needed vinyl release after featuring on Endless Flight's fifth edition of I'm Starting To Feel OK, while the flip has Valentino going solo for the excellent, hand clap laden beatdown of "Give It To Me".

Jacob F Desvarieux - "Rifyx" (Kuniyuki edit) (8:02)
Review: Endless Flight has done us all a favour by shining a light on the little-known work of French zouk maestro Jacob F Deviscaux. Here, they round of their retrospective series of "anthology" releases with another red-hot three-tracker. Side-one begins with "Rifyx", a wonderfully summery, horn-laden concoction from the musician's 1985 album Oh Madina that somehow joins the dots between jazz-funk, zouk and disco, before continuing with Deviscaux's 1982 Afro-funk/synth-boogie/electro-zouk production for vocalist Tala. Best of all, though, is Kuniyuki's stupendously celebratory flipside re-edit of "Rifyx", which turns the all-too-short original into an eight-minute slab of audio sunshine.

Descent
Review: Our man from Banff Eddie C makes a welcome return to the Endless Flight imprint that's been the conduit for so much of the Canadian producer's finely judged disco escapades over the years. Commencing with "Tunnel Mountain", Mr Currelly is on epic form, expertly teasing out a simmering and emotion drenched melodic refrain over a woozy mid tempo structure that intermittently jacks with real energy. Alongside it "Banff Butt" sounds like rough Chicago house slowed down to an opiated pace, while flipside opener "Iceline" is a typically sumptuous gallop through thick layers of textured beatdown. Finally "Descent" mainlines intermittent twilight boogie vibes through the stripped back groove.

Review: Red Motorbike rider Eddie C takes off his highway code approved helmet and dons his much heavier headgear for a trip into outer space: "Solaris" is a twinkling odyssey that, if you didn't know who was behind it, you'd bet your house was of Norwegian origin. "Flying Blue" retains the cosmic vibe but more in a spiritual sense as flutes flutter over percussive congas and more disco-influenced bass/kick combo. Finally Move D adds a deep, chuggy tech twist of Eddie's 2013 album track "La Palette" for added 3am dynamics.

It Goes Free
Review: That man from Banff Eddie C is lining up to release his second album, and second for Endless Flight, later this year and on the basis of this two track sampler Country City Country should be classed under corker! The Canadian leads with the sublimely cheeky "La Palette", a production where Brazil meets Chicago on the dancefloor as slick samba tinged percussion and a wonderfully drunken lead Rhodes keyboard line get busy over a rippling 808 groove. Complementing this, Eddie C goes eyes down on the drum funk beat down of "It Goes Free" which discards with any notion of slinky melody in favour of some good old jacking house rhythms and chaotic orchestral samples. Pretty much the perfect Endless Flight 12"!

Review: Rightly or wrongly, some believe that for an album to be truly great, it must take you on a journey. We're not sure yet whether Eddie C's second full-length, Country City Country, is a great album, but it's certainly something of a rollercoaster. Perhaps not a white knuckle ride, but certainly an undulating trip that bristles with vivid creativity and effortless dancefloor warmth. Given the Canadian's crate-digging sensibilities, it's no surprise to find that it's built around carefully chosen samples. Yet this is no mere cut and paste job. Beginning with a slew of lazy, slo-mo shufflers and tactile disco groovers, it sure-footedly works its way to a starlight deep house crescendo via drum machine electro, string-laden jack tracks and electric piano-laden jazz-funk jams.

Review: Canadian disco don and deep digger Eddie C has certainly come a long way since his days as a local DJ in Banff, Alberta. Now based in Berlin and joining a huge community of expat producers in the city, the On The Shore LP was indeed influenced by his new hometown. His studio being located right on the River Panke in Berlin's growing Wedding district; an area still not fully in the grasp of gentrification yet and it was these lovely and relaxing surrounds, being surrounded by fellow artists in the studios which fuelled inspiration for this release. Expect a mixed bag of all things slo-mo, low slung, deep and above all funky, for sure!

Review: Canadian disco dude Eddie C is back on Japan's Endless Flight, a label he has become a known staple of, with over a dozen releases in the last eight years alone, following up recent releases on Common Edit, Barefoot Beats and his own Red Motorbike. The Berlin by way of Banff producer gets deep down and dusty on the smooth jam "Horizon", followed by the super soulful groove of "Wanna Feel Free" on the flip, before closing with the seriously lo-slung funk on the wicked dub version.

Review: Three years on from his last acclaimed outing on Endless Flight, Berlin-based Canadian Eddie C returns to the Japanese label with another high quality full-length excursion. Those who've followed his career over the last six or seven years will feel at home straight away. Opener "Hello baby" is a quirky, break-driven head-nodder rich in dub disco bass and quirky samples, while the cut that follows, "Carbon Date", offers a deeper and more spacey take on the same heady blueprint. From then on its' a loved-up, saucer-eyed jaunt through laidback Balearic disco grooves ("In The Park"), spaced-out punk-funk ("Way Uptown"), percussion-packed Latin beats ("Batacuda"), bustling breakbeat house ("Berlina"), warped digital dub ("Dancin' Music") and spaced-out broken beat ("Listen"). In a word: superb.

Lonely Without You (3:59)
Review: In 2016 Canadian producer and DJ Eddie C released his third Endless Flight album entitled On The Shore: a compelling musical trip of drifting repetition in rhythm and melody. It was inspired by his studio that sits upon the Panke River in Berlin's Wedding district. Now he drops a new EP, consisting of three tracks plus "Auf Der Ufer" - a tune he did with his Norwegian buddy Rune Lindbaek. This slo-mo beauty is smothered with rich vintage synth flair and dusty drums: a sonic odyssey made for drifting. Our favourite though, was the lush synth-pop beauty of "Pumapunku" or B side cut "Inner Piece" which was a right curveball. This bleepy rave techno jam will take you all the way back to the early '90s. Another heartfelt arranged mix of instruments, synths, samples and drum machines by Eddie C.

Review: Since leaving longtime home BPitch control back in 2011, Sascha Funke has been on a mission to expand his repertoire. The tech-house and deep house of old has been replaced by quirkier and more challenging releases that draw influence from musical cultures around the world (a trend best exemplified by a couple of fine EPs for Multi-Culti). The German producer continues this approach on Lotos Light, his first album for nearly six years. Variously touching on dewy-eyed Balearic electronica, crusty post-punk dub-house, spaced-out analogue chuggers, psychedelic ambience, skewed house, contemporary krautrock and moody Teutonic new wave, it's a set that surprises and thrills with equal measure.

Review: Over the years, Italian producer Marcello Giordani has proved to be rather adept at crafting the sort of intoxicating, floor-friendly fodder that can't be easily categorized. As this excellent debut album for Endless Flight proves, he's a dab hand at fusing warm, late night deep house with influences that range from disco and boogie to techno and jazz. Exuding the sort of aural dirt and jazzy warmth that marks out the best Detroit deep house productions (think Moodymann, Rick Wilhite etc), Respect Yourself proves that deep house albums need not be dull and one-paced. In fact, it's the album's most gloriously disco-influenced moment, "Respect Yourself", that really stands out.

Review: Much has changed in the 10 years since Sunao Gonno released his debut album, My Existence. Then, the Japanese producer was obsessed with heavy techno, gnarled acid and intoxicated minimalism; these days, you're much more likely to find him exploring hazy, sunset-inspired blends of Balearica, deep house and ambient for labels such as International Feel and Beats in Space. Remember Life Is Beautiful, then, is the culmination of 10 years of musical evolution; a statement, journey and audio commentary rolled into one. Predictably, it's very good, offering attractive, trippy and superbly produced pieces that meld Jonny Nash style guitars and Tangerine Dream-esque synthesizer motifs to a variety of soft-focus drum machine rhythms and deft-touch grooves. Recommended.

Review: San Fran multi-instrumentalist Isaac Weisner comes correct on Endless Flight with four perfectly timed summer joints. Sitting pretty between a whole range of styles from cumbia to afrofunk, all tied up and fused with rich, stately mid tempo house grooves, each of the four cuts seem tailor made for sunny-side soundtracks. "Kejetia Star" struts with such juicy flare you would be forgiven thinking you're in Lagos, circa 72, "Dragonfruit" follows with more afro flavours but with stacks more percussion and loopy mischief while "Records In The Sun" flutters its eyelids with a little tropical disco charm and the savviest words any selector can hear this time of year: Don't leave your records in the sun! Finally we retire with the bluegrass introspection of the steel string twanging folky "Barbary Fig". Wise manoeuvres.

Snacks - "Order To The Senses" (Kornel Kovacs remix) (6:49)
Review: Stockholm's Kornel Kovacs has been a staple of Axel Boman's esteemed local imprint Studio Barnhus for a few years now. The 31 year old Hungarian-Swede is appearing now for the always reliable Mule Musiq diffusion imprint: Endless Flight. There's "Szamar" which is a looped up, pop-inflected disco-house cut that further portrays Kovacs' happy go lucky and tongue in cheek sensibilities: it's downright infectious! On the flip, the good times continue on the emotive deep house jam "Order To The Senses" which is actually a remix by Kovacs of a track by Snacks: the New Zealand/German duo of Rene Corbett & Aljoscha Babel. The original of this particular track appeared on last year's Mule Musiq label compilation entitled I'm Starting To Feel Okay Volume 7, which also featured the likes of Eddie C, Prins Thomas, Lord Of The Isles and Frankey & Sandrino.

Review: Anyone that indulged Dig & Edit 2, the recent KZA album for Endless Flight, will know how much of a highlight the track "Want No Other" was, a storming disco hugging house cut built from a mere snippet of Chic's "Everybody Dance". Kudos to artist and label for issuing an extended version of the track for 12" purposes, with KZA transforming "Want No Other" into a superb DJ tool without losing any of the original's splendid bass rhythm and strings. On the flip is a Gerd Janson approved remix from Endless Flight newcomer Musk which is much more grounded in house, specifically the filter heavy variety. Big 12".

One Hundred Fifth Wave
Review: "Computerstimme" is the latest cut to be drawn from KZA's immaculate second album Dig & Edit 2 for the 12" heads out there, and comes backed with a remix from the masterful Daniele Baldelli. If you are not familiar with the track, "Computerstimme" twinkles with a timeless machine sheen that would sit pretty in every decade since the '80s. Intriguing chord changes and an overall sombre cosmic undertone, it fuses the deepest tendrils of classic electro and contemporary disco with introspective attention to detail. Remix-wise Danielle Baldelli adds a little more Italo and psychedelic panache. We end with the equally touching "One Hundred Fifth Wave" which previously featured on Mule's latest compilation I'm Starting To Feel Okay Vol.6.

Review: On the fourth volume of I'm Starting To Feel Okay, Endless Flight boss Toshiya Kawasaki has selected 18 tracks from the likes of The Revenge, Eddie C, Mugwump, Richard Sen and Mark Seven and once again enlisted revered crate digger KZA to weave them together. The first few tracks work more as a showcase for the high quality of the Endless Flight back cat than a smooth mix, with the energy built in Johnwayne's Faze O sampling "High" petering out by the time Sect's Thieve Scrilla is introduced. Nonetheless, momentum gathers brilliantly with the next track - the excellent fuzzy Italo flex of Brontosaurus's remix of Moscow - and continues to gather pace for the remainder. The point where DJ Sprinkles being given the KiNK & Neville Watson treatment and the early NYC vibes of Marcus Cabral's "I'd Rather Smoke Alone" is interspersed with the sublime piano house bump of Mark Seven's "Swept Away" proves to be a real highlight.

Throw Up (Brontosaurus remix)
Review: Matt Waites began his musical career as Nightmoves, creating a series of memorable remixes for Roisin Murphy, Robbie Williams, Delphic and the Friendly Fires. Then in 2008 he announced his intention to release music through a new project entitled Moscow, stating the aim of making deep and atmospheric disco-tinged electronica; using the freedom a new identity brings to create and develop a much more precise sound. The first releases under this guise were remixes for They Came From The Stars I Saw Them and Detachments, each of which showed a different side to his musical influences. The 'Throw Up' EP is his debut single as Moscow: a slow build-up eventually bursts into an epic, rhythmic nu-disco number, layered with hooks and percussion. Although the sound is slightly less instantaneous than his earlier productions, Waites seems at ease with this new sound and offers plenty here to make a mark in this new territory.

Review: Gomma boss Munk with a long overdue debut on Endless Flight? Yes! Yes! Described by the label as a 'house mix of Tom Tom Club" it's hard not to fall for the playful charms of the title track and it seems like Mark Seven, Combo and Roman Rauch before him, Matias Modica has used the chance to appear on the excellent Mule Musiq sub-label as an opportunity to turn in some of his best work. This impression is only strengthened on the flip where two further Munk productions ease down the tempo but keep the effective usage of vocal harmonies at the core with rugged final track "No! No!" the epitome of a B-Side gem.

Review: While Optimo are undoubtedly men-for-all-seasons musically, as anyone who's seen them in action behind the decks will attest, they're often at their best when creating a mood, delving deep into their bulging record collections to showcase sludgy curiosities, dark electronics and intoxicating oddities. Pleasingly, it's this side of their multiple personalities that's explored on Dark Was The Night, their sixth commercially available mix CD. Predictably, it's a doozy, effortlessly joining the dots between the moody deep acid house of QX-1's "I Won't Hurt You", the pulsating industrial rhythms of Carter Tutti, the icy melodies and snowy rhythms of Recondite's "Cleric", and the paranoid dubstep of Kode 9 and Space Ape.

QX-1 - "I Won't Hurt You"
The Freeze - "Psychodalek Nightmares"
Odori - "Number One"
Angel Corpus Christi - "Dream Baby Dream"
Review: To complement Dark Was The Night, the latest excellent commercial mix of Optimo's storied discography, Mule Musiq have pulled four considered highlights from the CD for this 12" sampler. Listening to the four tracks featured here in isolation from Dark Was The Night only magnifies what accomplished DJs JD Twitch and JG Wilkes are, and highlights their digging skills with the period in which the music originally surfaced covering the late seventies and very early 90s. "I Won't Hurt You" from QX-1 is sleazy, suggestive deep house from the early 90s that will appeal to fans of same era K Alexi Shelby, whilst "Psychodalek Nightmares" is a killer new wave from The Freeze. Odori's "Number One" is super rare deep house from '91 with a killer S&M drum snap and a surfeit of new age samples whilst "Dream Baby Dream" from Angel Corpus Christi has last track written indelibly into it's DNA - no surprise then that it closes the mix!

Review: Prins Thomas' first commercially available DJ mix, 2007's Cosmic Galactic Prism, was something of a masterclass in dancefloor-friendly eclecticism, effortlessly joining the dots between a myriad of sounds and styles whilst retaining a decidedly intergalactic feel. Pleasingly, Rainbow Disco Club Volume 1 - released in celebration of the annual Tokyo festival of the same name - is similarly inspirational. Featuring some 26 tracks crammed onto one disc, it impressively joins the dots between the demented space disco of DJ Fett Burger and Speckgurtel, the fuzzy house intensity of Theo Parrish's rework of Helium Robots, the spiralling loop techno of Surgeon (here remixing Bee Mask), and the sweaty, bass-driven broken house brilliance of General Ludd. And that's just for starters.

All I Need
Feelings
Review: Endless Flight seem to have settled on an envious formula for picking up simple yet devastatingly effective and enduring house music from an international cast of producers, with this latest double dollop from Roman Rauch an excellent example. All I Need marks the Viennese producer's debut on the Mule Musiq offshoot, with both the title track and accompanying B Side "Feelings" glorious productions that rank up there with our favourite Endless Flight moments from Mark Seven and Combo. Commencing deftly with a chopped up arrangement of the opening bars of the Marvin track the title references, "All I Need" swiftly settles into a Motor City house number characterised by the live drum sounds and excellent phased textures that carry the constantly shifting groove. The groove to "Feelings" is wound tighter, though the tempo is slightly slower, giving off a rasping jackhammer sensation and Rauch slowly swamps it in the warmest of melodic refrains - just wait for the smudged bass line to appear.

Review: Given his love of all things classic disco and classic house, it is somewhat surprising to find this Don't Need To Know 12" is Jacques Renault's debut release on Endless Flight. Sure the Lets Play House man has previously contributed remixes to the Mule sublabel, but Renault and Endless Flight seem like such a match made in heaven, it's odd they've not aligned before. Regardless, this 12" falls snugly into the Endless Flight canon of dependable house DJ tools blessed with a touch of disco classicism with the title track a hook up with Morgan Wiley that comes in "Beach" and "NY Strip" mixes. Down below, Renault goes solo and lays on the searing disco funk hard with "Nutte 'n Honey".
