Review: If you don't know Acid Mothers Temple, get to know. This terrific psychedelic rock band is part of the quintessence of Eastern counterculture, self-defined as a "freak-out group for the 21st Century", led by Kawabata Makoto. With most of their albums centring on a ten minute long prog-haze freakouts, Paralyzed Brain here is no exception, with its three star pieces - 'Cemetery Orbital Drive 0011', 'Paralyzed Brain' and 'Magic Bohemian Has Gone' - adding up to a whopping deluge of consciousness-expanding rock. Now reissued on LP after its first, limited edition CD-only version as part of 'The Electric Dream Ecstasy Tour' in 2018.

Led by Vangelis, with lyrics by Costas Ferris, the band's 1972 double album interprets the Book of Revelation through a fusion of psych-rock, jazz and avant-garde soundscapes. This deluxe edition offers remastered original and rare Greek LP mixes, as well as a Blu-ray disc with Atmos and 5.1 audio overseen by Vangelis, alongside rare video content of a 1972 Discorama appearance. Included is a richly illustrated book with a new essay and unseen photographs, providing deep insight into the album's creation. 666 may not have been a commercial success at release, but it's now celebrated as a classic, with a legacy that inspired both prog and psych bands for decades. For listeners and collectors, this release captures the inventive genius of Aphrodite's Child and the visionary path that Vangelis and Roussos would follow.
