Robert Hecht & XY0815 - "Igriega05" (3:41)
Tysk Raider - "Dybbuk" (5:15)
Omni Causa - "Grey Day" (6:13)
Nachtzug - "Wetman" (4:59)
Retape - "Mysteron1" (2:54)
J Wiltshire - "Emporium" (3:07)
Review: In typically techno fashion, Berlin crew Mindcolormusic is keeping tight lipped about their latest multi-artist missive, presumably preferring to let the music speak for itself. That's probably a wise move, because there's plenty of electro gold amongst the six scintillating tracks on offer. We're particularly enjoying the fizzing, Drexciya-style assault of Retape's "Mysteron 1", the wild, mind-altering braindance madness of J Wiltshire's "Emporium" - think D'Arcangelo after a few too many glasses of cheap orange squash, and you're close - and the classic Detroit electro pulse of Robert Hect and XY0815's fine EP opener, "Igriegia05". That said, some of the deeper and melodious offerings tucked away elsewhere on the EP are also well worth a listen.

Take To The Sky (vocal) (3:42)
Take To The Sky (instrumental) (3:42)
Review: Two distinctive musical worlds collide here as City Pop meets with West Coast Boogie and a hint of synthwave jazz-funk for one of the coolest sounding records we've heard for a bit. Kumoko featuring XL Middleton are the artists behind it and the original 'Moonlight Magic' is all soft-focus melodies, wispy pads and filtered vocals over a killer boogie bassline. After the Instrumental comes the more laid back and sun-kissed smoocher that is 'Take To The Sky', and an instrumental of this one is also included.

Review: Originally released back in 1994, this was Italian house veteran Enrico Mantini's last appearance on UMM before Flying Records ceased to exist. One of his most highly sought after releases on the secondhand market, it has been played by underground heroes such as Zip over the years. On the A side, we have the deep and emotive mood music of "What U Want" (2021 Late Nite cut) with its classic Stateside swing - a true zeitgeist of a golden era. Over on the flip, new school heroes Chris Stussy & Djoko remix get onboard for a modern reshape followed by the original.

Review: Tim Reaper rallies up the troops for this exceptional collaborative four tracker. The tenth volume in his label's Meeting Of The Minds series, here we find him linking up with Parallel, Ben Kei, X-Altera and Sheba Q & No Nation across the EP to create four utterly stinking breakbeat odysseys. From the deep sways and meditative frequencies of 'Symbolism' to the wild drums and intoxicating dynamics of 'Step Back', this covers all jungle bases. See you in the future!

Alfred Czital - "Sunday Morning Routine" (5:56)
Review: Sweet Harmony is back with a compilation bursting with colourful shapes, textures and fresh techno rhythms. Anatole Serre's 'Hyperdulia' is a fast-paced fusion of drums, breakbeats and subtle allure that is followed by Xiaolin's 'Breath of Water,' a more ethereal yet still-driving percussive trip. On the B-side, Feenicks' 'All Fairies Tell Tall Tales' delivers an uplifting blend of trance and new wave that has a dreamlike energy and the closer from Alfred Czital is a fast, progressive wonder.

LIL NASSTY - "Get It Up So" (3:02)
DJ Pacifier - "Fried Again" (4:12)
Review: Riviera's early momentum continues here with a punchy four-tracker from six on-point artists. Lewis Taylor kicks off with 'Non Stop' which is a straight up and funky peak time then pumper with bright chords and plenty of fun in the atmosphere, Cult keeps the energy high with 'Total Kill' and X Coast & DJ RaDa then offer the acid-laced and turbocharged bass stomps of 'Come Together.' LIL NASSTY then flips the script with some sleazy trap beats with menacing bars and futuristic synth patterns on 'Get It Up So' and DJ Pacifier shuts down with some high-speed ghetto-tech in the form of the relentless 'Fried Again.'

Review: As if unearthing stacks of old gold from some of UK rave's earliest (and often largely forgotten) producer pioneers wasn't quite enough of an essential public service, Vinyl Fanatiks are now bringing these OGs out of retirement to make brand new material! Following the launch with DJH come four authentic, 91-flavoured rave blazers from X-Plode, a man who had a one-off white label in 1992 which has since passed collectors' hands for L250. Each cut hitting with the same energy and pace as his originals did 28 years ago, but with added 2020 production punch, this could be the reignition of a whole new career chapter for X-Plode.

Review: Explosive rave flavours! X-Plode strikes Amen Brother again with more high energy pieces. 'Space Piano' says it all - a lavish twist of detuned rave stabs and high vibe keys wrapped tightly around each other to squeeze as many positive vibes out of the situation. The feels remain high throughout the rest of the EP: 'In The House' is all about that rolling jungle techno 4x4, 'We Run Tings' nods towards the bleep side of the foundation and that aggy, tense Prodigy Experience vibe before 'Sonic Tonic' closes with a big hoover riff that drops into the most euphoric element of the EP. Review: X-Press 2 signed a deal with Acid Jazz that not only means all their back cat is now more widely available, but also that the legendary house outfit will release new music with them. However in the midst of that and a superb new album comes this, a reissue of a 1992 classic for Record Store Day 2024. It features two bold and anthemic treks that tap into their signature style which is raw, stripped back, driving and hypnotic with subtle but smart samples adding just enough detail to really keep you laced in for the ride.

X Press 2 - "AC/DC" (Guy J remix) (7:27)
Halo Varga - "Future" (Guy J remix) (8:03)
Review: A double-dose of remix action here, as long-serving progressive house hero and Bedrock alumnus Guy J offers up his interpretations of two classic cuts. On side A he takes on X-Press 2's turn-of-the-millennium tribal house beast 'AC/DC', retaining the London duo's rolling percussion, foreboding vocal snippets and ghostly chords whilst adding a hard-wired, bass-heavy groove and shimmering riffs all of his own. On the flip he reworks another track from 2000, Halo Vagra's 'Future'. This version has a trippy, if no less locked-in, feel, with the Israeli producer conjuring a genuine sense of foreboding and an intoxicated, early morning feel.

Review: Beat lovers stand up because this one is for you. Bristol beatsmith X-Ray Ted returns with another of his fire b-boy offerings, this time in the form of 'Doin' My Thing', an up-tempo outing that mixes up the old and the new. There is a reason this producer has been getting continued support from Craig Charles on BBC Radio, and this 7" is it. Big horns, great samples, flutes, an infectious vocal and rolling breaks provide the foundation for some dead good dance floor times.

Bugger - "No Silence Now"
Umbra - "The Big Dumb"
Review: MELMAK's new 12" is entitled All Stars: The Rave Years which gives you an idea of what to expect. These are high-tempo, dense and rave ready sounds from the drum & bass vanguard. There is plenty of space out cosmic energy to the exploratory leads of X Termal's 'Tragnal Kozze' then 'What If' (The Doulo Klan edit) is a tightly coiled stepper. Bugger lays down a hyper speed rhythm with drilling bass and slapping hits on 'No Silence Now' and Umbra's 'The Big Dumb' is a real slow-motion churner with textural synths and alien sound designs. All four are ready to get the party going in different ways.

Review: Sepp and Nu Zau's UVAR label is a hotbed of slick minimal sounds and this year has been a busy one that has seen them put out four new EPs, each as good as the last. For the fifth missive, they enlist various label friends to come through and in return are rewarded with another essential collection of late-night sounds. Xandru's cut is led by a nice melodic bassline and swirling sci-fi pads while Tulbure serves up some brilliantly frictionless drums. Flip it over for more spaced out, future-facing minimal tech grooves that will appeal to the heads.

Review: The hype's been building. The beef's been cooking. This is one of Xtrah's most talked about EPs so far. Naturally the music speaks for itself... From the elastic purring drones and jazzy subtleties of opening track "The Embarkment" through the final militant dischordant stutters and pneumatic flickers of the final track "Fragments" this is a lesson in rolling, understated, uncompromised underground drum & bass. The tribal groans and cymbal splashes of "Disturbance", the skitty energy of "Tibetan Funk", the electrified sizzling bassline of "Babylon Shall Fall"... It's all about precision produced dark funk. Spacious and to the point.

Review: Another special delivery direct from South Korea's burgeoning experimental electronic scene, courtesy of Tonal Unity, six track here take leads from downtempo, ambient, found sounds, field recordings and lo-fi slo-mo dance, making for a broad release that's true coherency is found in the quality of its tracks.

So while 'Bamboo Haze' feels born in the sticky heat of South East Asia, creating sweaty, mystical moods, 'Should Be There' shares more in common with percussive outsiders like Harmonious Thelonious, with a drop of How To Dress Well's alt-R&B also in there. Mamazu's 'Blueprint' layers Arabesque sounds atop one hell of a hook-y rhythm and beat section, whereas 'Flow' is late night nu-jazz blues for smoky, candlelit after hours soirees. All great, and seemingly all here to make sure you never get bored.

Review: Coldwave fans will already be aware of oddball '80s French funksters X-Ray Pop, a New Wave outfit whose alien synth grooves and sassy vocals have been a favourite of collectors for some time. Pirate, originally recorded and released in very limited numbers in the mid 1980s, is one of their more curious albums. Here, it gets a CD reissue from Finders Keepers' sister label Cache Cache, largely on the recommendation of Andy Votel. Angular, fuzzy and strangely edgy, it pops and fizzes with dark, Gallic style. If synthwave and Coldwave floats your boat, it comes highly recommended.

It comes with remastered audio, updated artwork, and exclusive sleeve notes from original saxophonist Lora Logic almost fifty years after it was first recorded on April 2, 1977, at the legendary London venue. It was an early performance by the new wave punk icons ahead of the arrival of their debut single 'Oh Bondage Up Yours!' and their genre-defining Germfree Adolescents album. The setlist includes tunes that went on to become future hits such as 'Let's Submerge,' and 'I Live Off You,' which were both performed months before their official release. As such this record offers a rare glimpse into the band's vital formative days.

Review: In a week that saw them deliver that excellent DJ Bookworms record, Barcelona based label Anomia serve up an example of their archival endeavours with this wonderfully presented collection of tracks from local group Xeerox. Recuerdo Espectral De Un Viejo Decorado Electrico presents a fascinating document of Barcelona's underground punk scene in the late seventies; formed by Latex (Krishna Goineau) and Javier Hernando, Xeerox grew out of the duo's impassioned discussions on bands such as Pere Ubu, Krafterk, Neu and Faust. Eventually coaxing each other to pick up instruments, a series of practice room sessions resulted in the tracks that feature here. All untitled, this collection is the first major offering of Xeerox's work and features mangled concoctions of tape collage, shredded guitar and atonal synth manipulation. If you enjoyed the primitive electronics of Karl' O Connor's White Savage Dance reissue from a few years back this will appeal.

Review: Crushing debut album from Xenogears featuring production input from the masters Objekt and NoMadRonin! Before they were known as Analogue Cops, Italian pair Lucretio and Marieu operated as Xenogears , inaugurating the Restoration label which has become a central outlet for their brand of heads-down, raw sounding house and techno. Having found much favour with their Analogue Copping, Lucretio and Marieu revived the Xenogears project earlier this year with a 12" that laid down the expectation for this debut album. In keeping with the Xenogears project's fast take on Detroit-inspired hardware techno, Lost Artemis explores the subterranean territories between post-atomic noises and apocalyptic breakbeats and demonstrates few can brandish hi-tech synthesizers and rusted vintage gears with the potency of Lucretio and Marieu.

Review: With a heart too sensitive to accept humanity's darker side, yet also unable to flinch from it, Xiu Xiu is a way of 'owning your own shadow'.
Jamie Stewart has a novelist's eye for juicy details, and a poet's ability to wring impossible emotions out of the English language, finding
black humour where there is usually horror, finding horror where there is usually apathy, and Stewart's history-spanning visions of birth and
death have never come across more clearly.
The performances, led by Stewart's one-of-a-kind voice, are intense, virtuosic and painted in a spectrum of acoustic and electronic colours
that one would be hard pressed to find equalled on any album. Many of the songs feature what is now officially the live line-up of the group,
with Stewart and Caralee McElroy joined by Ches Smith on drums and Devin Hoff on bass. 'Women As Lovers' marries the ancient with the
futuristic, each in all their beauty and terror. Traditional gongs collide with a rats' nest of computerized layering. The album also features a duet
with Michael Gira of Swans and Angels Of Light. The Album is out now on Kill Rock Stars.

Review: Given that XOR Gate is a new project from Drexciya member and all round Detroit legend Gerald Donald, we'd expect copies of Conic Sections to fly off the shelves. It helps, of course, that's the mini-album is little less than inspired. There are hints of Drexciya's alien electronics throughout, but little in the way of punchy TR-808 beats or booming bass. Instead, Donald treats us to a sublime selection of futurist soundscapes, experimental doodles, deep space ambient compositions and trippy, horror-influenced electronica. It's effectively the distilled essence of Motor City futurism with the dancefloor grooves removed and some creepy modular electronics thrown in. Which, we think you'll agree, is an enticing proposition.
