Arthur - "So Close To You" (4:28)
Future Force - "Reincarnation" (4:28)
Review: The Mighty Zaf and Mark GV Taylor are the deep digging pair behind BBE's such loved Americana compilation from 2014. Now they are back unearthing the goods on this tasty 7". Arthur released only one solo album but its was packed with gold. This single is from it and is a pure blue eyed soul with sweet licks from guitarist Dean Devener and whimsical vocals from Maye Cavallaro. Future Force's 'Reincarnation' was originally the B-side of NYC pop and funk outfit Future Force's only ever single. It's a groovy, funk laced and disco tinged roller.

Black Sun (Joe Claussell Classic mix) (10:37)
Black Sun (Joe Claussell dub mix) (6:52)
Black Sun (Joe Claussell Classic instrumental mix) (10:44)
Review: Joe Claussell is a proper legend of the scene and New York powerhouse who has a sound so emotionally intense it brings people to tears. Here, he breathes new life into the Far Out Monster Disco Orchestra with a powerful remix of 'Black Sun' that arrives exclusively for Record Store Day 2025. Since debuting in 2014, the Orchestra, which features Azymuth's Jose Roberto Bertrami and Alex Malheiros, has attracted top remixers like Theo Parrish and DJ Spinna, and Claussell now joins that esteemed list by infusing the original with his signature spiritual energy and rawness. The result is a euphoric journey towards pure ecstasy driven by Heidi Vogel's soaring vocals as classic disco and grooves collide in pure magic.

You Got To Be The One (5:08)
Never Gonna Leave You (3:20)
Review: Signature Brunswick disco soul from 75: Maryann and Satin Soul's "Never Gonna Leave You" tingles with all the best elements of the time; subtle funk twists, big Philly orchestral sweeps and a disco momentum that's powerful enough to absorb Farra's tender vocals. It's backed with "You Got To Be The One" that's more on a pristine soul feel with its swooning harmonies and swaying, spiralling chords. Produced and arranged by Tony Valor, both sides are delicate yet direct and disarming... If they don't set the mood then nothing will.

What Do You Got (4:46)
Review: Fat Night is an indie soul band based in Chicago made up of Dan Hanson, Gabe Gundacker, Ted Issen and Nik Ritchie. Their 'Sun Go Down' is a masterclass in simplicity as genius. A grooving bass, cool guitar riffs, understated drums, tight vocal harmonies and a moody organ weave together to create a tune that builds with effortless coolness and brings some sunshine on even the gloomiest days. Originally featured on Fat Night's 2015 Lazy Days album, it makes its vinyl debut here with 'What Do You Got,' a sweet soul ballad from 2020's Live For Each Other.

Talking About Love (6:27)
Bad Deal (4:23)
Love Love Love (4:27)
Review:
The Dynamite Cuts 45s series is back with another of their funk fuelled double 7" packs of wonder. FBI were Funk Band Inc, the UK's original jazz funk outfit back in the seventies. This double 45rpm was originally put out in 1977 and has since become a hugely in demand collector's item. The self-titled opener is a languid limb-loosener to open up with Parliament style bass riffs and popping horns, then 'Talking About Love' picks up the pace for a high seeped funk chase with seductive sax work and 'Bad Deal' slows down once more to a more libidinous vibe. Bright Rhodes solos and buttery vocal seduction defines closer 'Love Love Love.'

Cycli Infini (20:32)
Cycli Infini (Continued) (17:11)
Review: Eelco Topper's latest release as FELBM is a conceptual affair, with the Dutch producer delivering a 38-minute piece (here split into two parts for vinyl, each of which finishes with a locked groove to give the impression of the track creating an infinite musical loop) that mixes and matches tape loops, cyclical samples, repeating melodic motifs and pastoral-sounding snatches of flute, bansuri, bass trumpet, saxophone and pedal steel. While the concept, inspired by the artist's thoughts about 'the cyclical nature of the world around him" is important, of more significance is the utter brilliance of the piece itself - a genuinely gorgeous, warming, atmospheric and ambient-leaning concoction tailor-made for imagined afternoons in the countryside and woodland walks at dawn.

Review: Jet-set instrumental funk from Lance Ferguson, sifted from his rare early release 'Rare Groove Spectrum Vol. 1'. The pieces are technically covers; the A, of Earth, Wind & Fire's 'Brazilian Rhyme', and the B of 'Sweet Power Your Embrace' by James Mason. This Japanese 7" edition contains no end of wally funk, baggy brass trills and bossa nova clave, musically emanating straight from the heart of Melbourne, Australia.

Review: We've been served a good banquet of dance reissues from classic Italian film soundtracks of late, and Gianni Ferrio's 'La Poliziotta' is one of the best of the bunch. Combining two choice cuts from mysterious film director Stefano Vanzina's aka. Steno's sexy detective film 'La Poliziotta', this 7" reissue is a finger-clicking, jazz-swinging foray through instrumental funk.

Review: Natacha Fink's 'Pirarublue' delivers a sexy lounge vibe with hints of jazz rock, characterised by its catchy rhythms and melodies, while on the flip Nimalan Yoganathan presents 'Unseen Songlines,' an ambient piece rich in field recording atmosphere and experimental textures. With its unique sounding hord structures and ample use of echo, this track transports listeners on an introspective journey through soundscapes. Overall, the EP showcases the label's commitment to showcasing eclectic and boundary-pushing music from emerging artists.

Chron (4:10)
Review: For those who know, First Touch are doyens of the club scene from back in the day and were regularly heard on the world's best dance floors. The German outfit brought a special kind of modern funk back from 2000 onwards and helped revive boogie across a number of great LPs and 7"s. They have remained active over the years and this new one is another fresh sound. 'Changes' is classic First Touch with nice analogue drums and rubbery synth bass lines as well as warm piano chords and horn stabs. Then there is 'Chron' which falls more into a world of seductive electro territory.

Review: Flammer Dance Band returns with 'Gynger', a high-energy, groove-infused album that showcases their vibrant fusion of funk, Afrobeat and psychedelic sounds. After a whirlwind year of touring, including a stint backing Ghanaian legend Funky Rob, the seven-piece group hit the studio with fresh inspiration and contagious spontaneity. Over five intense days, they recorded Gynger, an album brimming with dynamic, raw energy. Highlights include,'Bandet Gar', which is a horn-heavy funk powerhouse, bursting with infectious rhythms. 'Ekko Av Deg Selv' takes a more experimental route, with its distinctive keyboard work lending the track a unique and eclectic vibe. 'Glad' delivers a laid-back, Balearic flavour, with breezy guitar riffs and a relaxed island groove, offering a refreshing, chilled-out contrast. Meanwhile, the title track, 'Gynger', dives into trippy, psychedelic territory, swirling with hypnotic rhythms and spaced-out vibes that pull listeners deep into the groove. This release sees a band at the peak of their creativity, blending tight musicianship with a free-flowing, jam-like spirit. Flammer Dance Band's is clearly a leader in funk and Afrobeat, offering this fresh take on classic grooves with modern twists.

Review: Flashbaxx's 'Take Care My Friend', released in 2020, is notable for its blend of jazz-funk instrumentation, audible warmth, and memorable songwriting - centring on the subject of a broken-down relationship refracted through the lens of hybrid nu jazz and slow-motion soul. Its terse seven tracks now hear a remix EP on the same issuing label, Nunorthern Soul, charting electronic remixes by Tambores En Benirras, Moods, and of course, everyone's favourite jazzdance status symbol, Atjazz. The remixes are deeply layered and come tempered with the feel of live playing despite their electronic interpretation; indeed, this is a quality selection and producers' delight.

Don't Leave Me (dance edit) (4:46)
Review: Southern Soul singer Jeff Floyd has been chipping away for years without ever breaking through, though his albums are always held in high regard by committed soul fans. Here, City of Dreams attempt to give his career a boost by reissuing "Don't Leave Me", the B-side of his 1984 debut single "Best of Friends". A smooth but loose, synth-laden boogie gem, it sounds like what it is: an overlooked jam that has long been considered something of a slept-on classic. This sumptuously packaged 12" reissue also features a previously unheard "Dance Edit", which - somewhat surprisingly - is a little shorter than the original, but decidedly punchier. We'll leave you with one last impressive fact: Floyd not only wrote, produced and sung the track, but also played all of the instruments.

Love Is A House (radio version) (4:22)
Review: A timeless gem from the mid-80s, this ballad is a magical slow jam of its era with a soulful touch that remains irresistible. Produced and written by the legendary duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the song features their unparalleled ability to craft heartfelt melodies and lush arrangements. Its delicate piano-driven sound and tender vocal delivery immediately connect, making it an enduring favorite. Initially featured in the movie Krush Groove, the track quickly outshone its cinematic origins, climbing to number four on the r&b charts and breaking into the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. It introduced the group to a wider audience, transcending their early hip-hop and pre-new jack swing roots. Now released on heart-shaped vinyl, this edition feels like a perfect tribute to a song that's all about emotion and connection.

My Baby's Got ESP
Four Below Zero - "My Baby's Got ESP" (3:32)
Golden Flamingo Orchestra - "The Guardian Angel Is Watching Over Us" (feat Margo Williams) (4:51)
Review: This essential 45 from Japan's Octave Lab brings together two essential productions from legendary disco studio wizard Patrick Adams. On the A-side you'll find Four Below Zero's 1976 modern soul scene anthem 'My Baby's Got E.S.P' (originally simply titled 'E.S.P', fact fans), a sing-along treat that arguably counts as one of Adams' most accessible and straight-forward productions (this is not a criticism, by the way, just recognition that he made some seriously bonkers disco and boogie records over the years). Over on the flip it's all about the Peter Brown co-produced 'The Guardian Angel is Watching Over Us', a rare 1979 cut that features a sublime lead vocal from Margo Williams. While not as celebratory as the A-side, it's every bit as essential.

Alexandrie Alexandra (Dimitri From Paris version Discoteque) (7:44)
Review: The French pop scene is vast and full of treasures but Claude Francois is one of its more mysterious and mythical characters. He was active on the scene from the 60s until he was taken away too soon in a sad domestic accident in 1978 having been a trained percussionist and something of a teenage sensation. He sure did know how to write some killer grooves, though, and in fact co-wrote and sang the original version of what would become 'My Way,' no less. This one, 'Alexandrie Alexandra' was recorded in October 1977 and now gets some special reruns from the one and only Dimitri From Paris who brings the joyous disco goodness.

One Step Ahead (2:33)
I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face (2:43)
Review: This reissue brings to light one of most treasured and elusive recordings of soul music from the 60s. 'One Step Ahead', famously featured in Moonlight and sampled in Mos Def's 'Ms. Fat Booty', stands as a deep masterpiece from her early Columbia years. Released two years before her meteoric rise at Atlantic Records, this track never appeared on any of her Columbia albums, making it a rarity sought after by fans and collectors alike. The flip side, 'I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face', is equally spellbinding. Franklin's rendition of this classic exudes raw emotion and vocal brilliance, elevating it to a level that's both powerful and deeply moving. This special 7" pressing is for anyone passionate about Aretha's legacy. It captures a pivotal moment in her career and offers a chance to own a piece of soul music history, filled with timeless artistry.

Light My Fire (2:41)
Review: Ryuhei The Man has been utilising his scalpel skills a lot of late, in the process offering up a string of floor-friendly re-edits that stay true to the original ethos of the artform. Here he offers a re-arrangement and extension of Erma Franklin's scintillating 1969 cover of Doors classic "Light My Fire", subtly looping up some key instrumental passages before unleashing the original's righteous horns and Franklin's fine vocal. By doing this, the dusty-fingered Japanese DJ/producer has managed to make the too-short original - which is of course featured on the flip - much more suitable for dancefloor spins. Most of his edits are good, but this one is genuinely extra-special.

Mister Magic (dub version) (4:29)
Review: This Japanese import on Vortex Records offers a brilliant disco-reggae version of a classic tune by Dean Fraser & Robert "Dubwise" Browne. 'Mister Magic' is a mid-paced chugger with oodles of reverb and bass so funky it will tie you in knots. The acoustic guitar melodies are warm and slide up and down the scale and big horns add flesh and fun. On the flip it is dubbed out to the max, with endless hissing hi-hat tails and mind-melting bass but the same sense of playful and bubbling funk. A real scorcher for sure.

Review: Raw, unfettered funk from one of LA's hardest working live outfits, Ray Frazier and Shades Of Madness recorded a criminal amount of 45s... One of which - "My Baby's Hand" - regularly fetches the handsome sum of L1000 between collectors. Instantly triggering the biggest northern soul sensations (stomping beats, relentless super-tight grooves, show-stopping splashes of bold soul), this will resonate with, and unite all, funk and soul aficionados across the globe. Highlights include the strident string-led blues riff on the aforementioned "My Baby's Hand", the chop-slapping JB-echoing tightness of "I Who Have Nothing" and the lazier, luxurious swing of "Gonna Get Your Love". Presented as a trio of sweet 45s, Jazzman have curated an exceptional document right here.

Review: A 70s funky Northern soul masterpiece by New York-born soul singer Judy Freeman is reissued for the first time on 7", in conjuction with Ted Taylor, who was chronically unappreciated throughout his career. The latter's 'Somebody's Always Trying' is a magnificent uptempo dancefloor-filler with a pounding rhythm, powerful drums, rocking horns and a great frantic, exasperated vocal. The obverse 'Hold On', meanwhile, prefers to rollick in devilish guitar and brass cadences, with Freeman herself urging us to keep on trucking, not least since a new day is dawning.

From the Shiffrin-style guitars and Jorge Ben licks of the dramatic cinematic title track we head deep into the dance by way of the cadent Latin soul of "Tin Tin Deo", the Hammond-squeezing "Talking Sticks" and the percussion-primed heads-down Arabic charms of "East Breeze". We climax with "The Obsession", a thumping drum-focussed samba number that tips a big nod to the likes of Master At Work.

'Kiwami' is a raw funk tune with razor sharp hi hats over spy theme-like 60s synths and bi claps. It's brilliantly retro and filled with dance floor drama. The orchestrator of this edits series is obscure, and so are the sample sources for each of the edits heard on this 12". On the A-side, we hear a tight-lipped James Brown-style breakdown and ensuing boogie number, on which it is insisted that we "know what makes (this singer) feel alright". Good to know! The B-side, meanwhile, errs far further in the direction of instrumental synthfunk, proving the versatile mettle of this raucous reworker.

The Futures - "Let's Get To It" (2:54)
Selvagem - "Amor" (3:20)
Review: The second slab of wax on Mexican imprint Ximeno Records' 'Club Series' delivers two desirable sides of synth-powered peak-time excellence. First up on side A is the Futures' 'Let's Get To It', one of the Philly soul quartet's finest boogie-era outings (and there were a few). First released in 1982, it's a classic electrofunk workout rich in squelchy synth-bass, superb group vocals and colourful electronic melodies. Over on the flip, there's something a touch newer: a chugging-but-driving, largely groove-based re-edit by Brazilian star Selvagem of a mysterious South American cover version of Donna Summer classic 'I Feel Love'. Re-titled 'Amor', it's a throbbing, peak-time-ready re-fix that sounds like a guaranteed dancefloor winner.
