Review: English new wave popsters Wang Chung return with a brand new career retrospective, reenlightening us as to the very best of Nick Feldman and Jack Hues' patented blend of disco-baller new wave and dance pop. Though packed with easily recognised hits like 'Everybody Have Fun Tonight' and 'Dance Hall Days', this record also makes light of the band's lesser known favourites while arranging each in curatorial fashion, striking a balance of chronology and versatility: Wang Chung were known for their inspirational garrulity, channelling a seemingly endless array of international stylistic curiosities into their pop music: from Burundi shuffle to electronica to Motown to prog, this mix of both radio hits and deeper cuts makes for a desultory listen, where many influences are often reeled off in the space of a single track.

Review: Life changed dramatically for The War On Drugs when they released Lost In The Dream in 2014. It was the Philadelphia band's big, breakthrough record, taking the band all over the world and to some of the biggest stages. Since then, their stock has only continued to rise and they've become one of the most beloved rock bands in the world. This live album was recorded on tour between February 2022 through December 2023 in America, UK, Europe and Australia. Intro 'Harmonia's Dream' is their answer to The Who's 'Baba O'Riley' and you can hear the ecstasy running the crowd. 'Come To The City' is one of band leader Adam Granduciel's best ever vocal takes. Unbelievably powerful and peerless. No War On Drugs set would be complete without 'Under The Pressure' and the ten minute-plus version here is a representation of how far they've come - not only in terms of popularity, but in terms of quality as a band. They've not rested on their laurels they've just got better and better.

Review: Warhaus' fourth album, Karaoke Moon, marks a bold return for Maarten Devoldere, two years after Ha Ha Heartbreak. Teaming up with producer Jasper Maekelberg, Devoldere spent months crafting this record, exploring over 50 songs he wrote during a two-year period. The result is a stunning and multifaceted work, likely the most adventurous Warhaus release yet. Karaoke Moon cleverly tackles themes of modern masculinity, often with a playful and self-deprecating tone. Devoldere's sharp wit and introspective lyrics take center stage as he wrestles with his inner thoughts, blending dark reflection with humor. Musically, the album covers diverse territoryifrom the sultry nightclub vibes of 'No Surprise' to the moody, Nick Cave-esque atmosphere of 'Zero One Code'. Tracks like 'Hands of a Clock' feature lush orchestration, merging choir and piano for a sweeping conclusion. The album masterfully balances intensity and levity, creating a layered experience that invites repeated listens. With each spin, Karaoke Moon reveals more of its mysterious allure, drawing listeners deeper into Devoldere's intriguing world. It's a thrilling addition to the Warhaus catalog.

Review: Warmduscher fifth album is the band's most ambitious and eclectic work yet. Led by the inimiatble Clams Baker Jr and featuring Benjamin Romans Hopcraft, Adam J. Harmer, Marley Mackey, Paranoid London's Quinn Whalley and Bleu Ottis Wright, it masterfully blends gqom, hip-hop, jazz, punk-funk and disco pogo into a spellbinding mix. Produced by Ben Romans Hopcraft and Jamie Neville, the album opens with the Talking Heads-esque 'Fashion Week,' a joyous ode to fashion's die-hard enthusiasts and contains the also already well circulated singles 'Staying Alive' and 'Top Shelf'. Bulging with brutally honest lyrics and dazzlingly eclectic tracks, the album also features guest appearances from Irvine Welsh - who provides its spoken word intro - Lianne La Havas, Janet Planet, Jeshi and CouCou Chloe, adding to its diverse soundscape. Reflecting the energy of their legendary live shows, Too Cold To Hold pushes creative boundaries to their maximum.

Review: Originally known as Stuff Kittens, then Warsaw, the legendary U.K. post-punk band Joy Division emerged from Manchester in the late 1970s, their middle moniker chosen in honour of a David Bowie-Brian Eno track, "Warszawa. This album, recorded at the time but never released, includes five bonus demo tracks recorded at Pennine Studios in Manchester on July 18, 1977, featuring Steve Brotherdale on drums. The first 11 tracks were laid down during a recording session in early May 1978, shortly after 'Interzone' and 'Transmission' - later to become Joy Division classics - had been incoporated into their set, the formere emerging from a cover of Northern Soul classic 'Keep On Keepin' On', the band adding original lyrics to create a unique sound. 'Transmission', written during the final rehearsal week, begins with a line from Alistair Crowley's The Book of Thoth, adding to what is already a fascinating collection of early takes of songs that would later gain iconic post-punk status.

Review: Weezer's Blue Album is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a special edition vinyl release, newly remastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on blue and clear vinyl. Widely considered one of the most iconic debut albums of all time, the 1994 release pushed alternative rock in a new direction with its blend of humor, introspection, and anthemic hooks. Rivers Cuomo's songwriting crafted a unique voice, with geeky, ironic narratives juxtaposed against a backdrop of roaring guitars and power-pop melodies. At a time when the alt-rock world was dominated by angst-filled acts like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Green Day, Weezer stood out with their self-deprecating lyrics and complex emotional themes. Songs like 'No One Else' and 'The World Has Turned and Left Me Here' explored fragile masculinity with both humor and vulnerability. Meanwhile, tracks like 'In the Garage' and 'Surf Wax America' embraced geek culture and fantasies, cementing Cuomo's place as an unconventional frontman. The record also introduced the band's signature soundia hybrid of power-pop, punk, and 70s rock influences. Hit tracks like 'Buddy Holly', with its irresistible chorus, and 'Say It Ain't So', an emotionally raw reflection on family trauma, showced Cuomo's talent for writing anthems that were both personal and relatable. The climactic 'Only in Dreams' closed the album with a sprawling, eight-minute masterpiece, further solidifying Weezer's lasting impact on 90s rock. While initially dismissed by some critics, The Blue Album gained recognition for its mix of heartfelt songwriting and ironic detachment, earning a double-platinum status and becoming a blueprint for later generations of indie and alternative acts.

Review: It's a breath of fresh air seeing an album being released in December. The trend of packing albums in autumn so they can make end of year lists makes it usually a really limited month full of seasonal Christmas themed stuff or late 'drops' by massive Hollywood stars, who don't need promo. White Denim, now signed to the iconic Bella Union label run by Cocteau Twins' Simon Raymonde, are releasing their 12th long player and it's frontman James Petralli's most ambitious to-date. It's the first record that he has engineered and produced and sounding as soulful and groove laden as this we can only hope to hear more of his production magic on White Denim and other projects to come. The single 'Light On' has some sumptuous key tones underpinning his warbling vocal that acts like a kaleidoscopic fountain of joy, breathing fresh air into any room. 'Look Good' has a funk bassline that would make George Clinton proud and 'Second Dimension' is as catchy as anything Hiss Golden Messenger has ever released.

Review: Whitey's Mental Radio, a sprawling double album, showing his eclectic musical style and satirical take on modern life. The album features 16 tracks, blending rock, electronic, and experimental elements while incorporating contributions from guitarists Harry Osbourne and Del Guapo. Kicking off with the gritty 'When Did I Lay Down and Die?'.Mental Radio soon ventures into more eclectic territory with tracks like 'Cherryade' and 'Little Piggies', which mix surrealist lyrics with biting commentary. Songs like 'Let It Burn' and 'This Is Forever' shift from cello-driven anthems to synth-led riffs, reflecting Whitey's refusal to stay confined to one genre. Highlights include 'Bad Energy', which crescendos into chaotic brilliance, and the introspective 'Boxes Squares Etc'. Whitey's knack for creating layered, unpredictable soundscapes is especially evident in 'Dear Universe' and its spacey reprise. Closing with the reflective 'Man You've Got To Help Yourself', the album offers a loose, yet compelling narrative on freedom, responsibility, and the absurdity of contemporary life.

Review: Originally released in 2004, A Ghost Is Born - Wilco's fifth studio album - doubled down on a stylistic rethink for the band that began a little earlier, with 2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. This is also the moment lead singer Jeff Tweedy assumed even more creative control as guitarist Jay Bennett said goodbye, and the first time the outfit claimed a top 10 album in their American homeland. 12 months later, they walked away with the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, and now here we are, 20 years on, wondering how the hell things got to this point but still under no doubt just how good this collection of songs is. A new anniversary double LP edition (with more expansive 9xLP+4CD and 9CD formats also available), complete with hardcover book, it's a must for dedicated disciples and a genuinely beautiful package for pretty much anyone who appreciates the art of the reissue.

Review: Unplugged & Electrified is a poignant compilation that showcases the unforgettable live performances of Amy Winehouse, capturing her unique artistry and raw emotional power. Spanning tracks from intimate sessions like 'Back to Black' and 'Rehab', recorded during her Unplugged performance at The Orange Lounge in May 2007, the album highlights her ability to convey vulnerability through soulful delivery. The collection features electrifying moments from Jools Holland's Hootenanny, including collaborative renditions of classics like 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' and 'Mighty Quinn', where her dynamic vocal prowess shines alongside esteemed musicians. Tracks such as 'Valerie' and 'Some Unholy War' present alternate versions, enriching the listening experience with fresh interpretations. From heartfelt ballads like 'Love Is A Losing Game' to spirited performances of 'Cherry' and 'You Know I'm No Good'. the compilation encapsulates the essence of Winehouse's artistry. Review: To celebrate the return of the Glastonbury Festival in 2022 and mark the 15th anniversary of an iconic moment, Island Records served up Amy Winehouse's 2007 Pyramid Stage performance for the first time. This unforgettable set saw the troubled genius headline on June 22nd and it was her debut on the Pyramid Stage. She entranced audiences as ever with her soulful voice and electrifying presence and later that day, she also graced the Jazz World Stage and once again wowed those in attendance with another heartfelt and raw performance. The album now gets reissued and commemorates a milestone in Amy's career as well as a chance to relive the magic of her timeless sound.

Review: Warning - the title of this album is flagrant false advertising. Brooklyn based Cameron Winter (of indie art-punk darlings Geese) has opted to go solo with his debut full-length Heavy Metal and while it's an eclectic, sporadic affair, it is devoid of essentially any sonics that could in any way be referred to as "heavy metal". It's a move based around the fact that, according to the 22-year-old himself - "barely anybody knows who my band is, I'm young and not afraid of living with my parents and I'm free to chase whatever ideas I want." Apparently drawing on a Craigslist-sourced who's who of guerilla backing band members including a disinherited cousin of John Lennon ("he was a real good sport"), a five-year-old bassist ("these kids, you know, they get raised on their iPads but they're far more precocious than any generation"), and a Boston steel worker-cum-cellist ("Honestly, it's crazy, the talent that can be found on Craigslist. We got a couch, too"), while supposedly being recorded in piecemeal fashion from locations such as hotel room closets to multiple Guitar Centres where he has now received a lifetime ban, there's an undeniable sense of absurdity and line-blurring between fact and fiction that goes hand-in-hand with his low-drawled, too much life experience and awareness in a young body malaise that underpins this razor sharp, insightful, ludicrous jaunt through young New Yorker life.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

The name Wolf Alice is derived from a story by Angela Carter, and appropriately enough this savage and infectious debut does have more than a little of the fairytale gone macabre about it. The band's indie-rock sound veers in a myraid other stylistic diversions, taking in delicate folk-pop, kraut-tinged groove and My Bloody Valentine guitar scree whilst Ellie Roswell's charismatic whisper-to-scream presence remains fervent and compelling at the mic. Moreover, these songs not only have claws but know how to use 'em, rendering 'My Love Is Cool' more than a mere zesty reinvention of grunge yore, but somewhat akin to the sound of a major new talent taking their first blood.
