The score's connection to the rich tradition of backstage musicals, from 42nd Street to Chorus Line is fully evident. Much like these classics, Ça, c'est Paris! follows a troupe striving to put on a show against all odds. Burgalat’s compositions encapsulate this spirit, infusing his signature harmonic complexity and inventive tonal shifts to bring Fitoussi’s vision to life. His music not only underscores the drama but also breathes new vitality into the time-honored genre.

Review: It has been five long decades since the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving episode first hit US TV screens. Originally aired in 1973, the show proved beyond any doubt that Peanuts was the coolest and most sophisticated cartoon of the day, and that's in no small part down to the original scores, which were the responsibility of Vince Guaraldi, and all of which are worth picking up if you see copies on sale.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving has never been available on record before, having only recently been rediscovered in the vaults and then primed for this autumn 2023 debut. Remixed and remastered to elevate some of the details that had been lost in the old recordings, tracks run between lounge jazz and soul funk, with 'Little Birdie' arguably the pick of the lot (and not just because it stands out with those iconic vocals).

This vinyl edition has been mixed and mastered from the original 2" session tapes to ensure audiophile quality, providing an enhanced listening experience for fans of jazz and Peanuts. 'Woodstock's Medley', features pianist David Benoit with original Guaraldi sidemen Seward McCain (bass) and Mike Clark (drums), recorded fifty years later at the same Hyde Street studio in San Francisco. Guaraldi's score, with its elegant title theme, playful take on Beethoven and the infectious 'Woodstock's Dream', is something for all listeners. The album's warm analogue sound brings the Easter classic to life in a way that's sure to delight both long-time fans and newcomers.

Review: I Saw The Glow is the latest movie-meme to be peddled by film auteurs and distribution powerhouse A24; written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, this contemporary horror-comedy explores themes of alternate realities and cancelled futures, centring on the chaos that ensues after two friends endure the axing of their favourite TV show. Slated to have become a success from its inception, the film's soundtrack is bedazzling to match, corralling the likes of Caroline Polachek, Sloppy Jane, Phoebe Bridgers, Kristina Esfandiari, Florist and Yeule into a single soundtrack nonetheless made up of original songs. Curated entirely by Schoenbrun, the artists selected reflect a contrarily modern take on the retro-nostalgic moods of the film; in going into the soundtrack's curation, the director herself recalled seeing commercials on MTV for film soundtracks, and wanted to emulate this long-lost approach whilst also reflecting the film's setting between the late 90s and early 00s. Reviving a forgotten formula - a soundtrack album for which artists record original material - this isn't one to be missed.
