Review: It would be fair to say that Studio K7 has pulled off something of a coup in getting Kenny Dixon Jr. to agree to compile and mix the latest installment in the long-running DJ Kicks series. It is, somewhat remarkably, the legendary Detroiter's first commercially available mix set. This triple-vinyl edition features a whopping 19 cuts - all in unmixed form - from the 30 track mix. Musically, it's a blazed, jazzy, soulful and groovy as you'd expect, and contains a mixture of downtempo beats, nu-jazz and hazy house cuts from the likes of Flying Lotus, Dopehead, Peter Digital Orchestra, Nightmares On Wax, Soulful Session and Lady Alma.

Review: Since launching in 2006, the men or women of mystery behind the sneaky Digwah series have delivered a couple of sought-after, single-sided 12" singles that blend familiar samples with rock solid tech-house grooves. Predictably, this third volume in the series sticks closely to the blueprint, wrapping twinkling electric piano motifs and a restless, looped bassline around a rhythm track rich in jazzy hi-hats, snappy drum machine snares and tough, locked-in kick-drums. It's arguably closer to deep house than its predecessors, with the tactile and warming samples - lifted, it seems, from the late '60s West Coast rock record - helping to create a rolling, late night feel. The previous Digwah releases sold out quickly, so you'll have to act fast to secure a copy of this one.

Review: Admittedly, we are always a bit excited when more cheeky bootleg remix action from East End Edits come in. Following up the groovy yet tough rolling tech house of EEE09 and its jazzy flourishes, the subsequent release is an edit of 'Fever' by Peggy Lee, and it's a pretty good one if we do say so ourselves. Deep, sensual and mysterious mood music that's perfect for the warm-up slot, it features a lurking Reese bassline beneath clipped rhythms to support the sensual vocal of the original, not to mention its sombre clarinet solo. Review: French label Rutilance reaches across Europe to sign their first ever German artist in Djoko. He comes with a well-regarded CV and established tech house sound that is party ready. 'Holding Onto You' immediately makes its mark with nice bumping drums and a wailing vocal that will make you screw up your face. There is also some fine jazz stylings on 'Daylight' that brim with soul and then more turbo-charged peak time tackle in 'Step Han', a tune that manages to be both dynamic and slick. 'Lesson' rounds out with a twisted cyborg funk that will carry you through the night.

Review: Fred Everything's profile may not be as high as it once was, but he continues to serve up high quality treats - as this surprise collaboration with legendary vocalist Robert Owens proves. The latter is in fine form on the EP-opening 'Classic Mix', a warming, musically detailed chunk of vocal deep house positivity that sounds like it was partially inspired by Dubtribe Soundsystem classic 'Do It Now'. Fred Everything also provides two 'BDTW' mixes on the flip: the fluttering synths sounds and vintage Chicago house grooves of the 'Deep Mix', and a more stripped-back 'Vox Dub'. Best of all though is Martin 'Atjazz' Iveson's rework, which recalls the fluid synth sounds, jazzy flutes and intricate percussion programming that marked out his early 2000s work on Mantis Recordings.

Review: On this second, more expansive sampler for his forthcoming album Spaces & Places, Kerri Chandler treats us to tracks inspired by - and by the wonders of mobile recording technology, produced inside - clubs including Dublin's District 8, Glasgow institution Sub Club, Lux of Lisbon and NYC's Output. Of course, the standard is uniformly high throughout - it's classic Chandler from start to finish - but our picks of a very fine bunch include the soulful piano house shimmer of 'Change Your Mind', the thrusting, bass-heavy pump of 'Subbie (Rattle The Subbie Mix)', the effortlessly slick and soulful 'Tenacity (Full Vocal Mix)' and the ludicrously sub-heavy snap of 'See The Light (Dub)'. To borrow an old cliche, this is very much, 'all killer, no filler'.

Channeling the swing and soul of the finest UKG with a European deep house sensibility, he's back on Wolf Music with three new slices of dancefloor gold. 'Royale' is laden with crafty chord lines and a groove to die for, absolutely for the heads but incredibly accessible with it. 'Intentions' captures a little of Mood II Swing's distinctive crunch and injects it with plaintive jazz piano for a deep, contemplative joint, and 'Move Steady' draws on techy synths and a scuffed, head nodding beat with a subtle streak of uplift.

Review: Following a string of alluring, melody-rich, digital-only EPs, Peace Symphonies makes its debut on wax with a multi-artist extravaganza. Gorge Hewek sets the tone with opener 'Peace Symphonies', a warming, sun-kissed slab of kaleidoscopic deep house/tech-house fusion that reminded us of some of the material released by the All Day I Dream label. Makebo's 'You' is a soft focus, dewy-eyed slab of sunrise-ready bliss underpinned by shuffling house drums, while 'Lazos' by Simon Vuarambon is a crunchy and groovy workout smothered in relaxed jazz piano solos and synth strings. Review: The rightly lauded Bogota producer Felipe Gordon has always turned out plenty of high quality music and this year already he has lined up a new instrumental hip-hop album Psychedelic Melancholia. But that's not all because now he arrives on the much loved Razor-N-Tape with his fine Flutes Of Gold EP. The title track is pure joy with shuffling and jazz-infused house grooves topped with lush chords and golden melodies. 'Right Beside Me' has more swing to it and an intriguing vocal sample that is perfect for late night dances. 'Homage To Bossa' has Latin influences and 'Acid Party At Santa Barbara' has prickly 303s twisting and turning through another warm house arrangement.

Review: Mr. G continues to be a bastion of the greatest deep house emanating out of the UK, and that practice extends to the artists he chooses to roll with. On this latest 12" on Phoenix G, he's reaching out to various characters for remixes which dial up the soul and don't necessarily play it safe for the floor. Kai Alce's 'New Feel' of 'U Feel Mi' is a gorgeous bath of sprightly Rhodes and sax flex, but it's more concerned with jazziness than simple riffs to keep a crowd pumped, even if there's a sharp beat underneath. Mango Boy takes two very different runs at 'Full A Love', with the 'On A Vibe' version especially impressing with its beatless rhythm mantras for the DJs who like to tease.

Review: Fuse off-shoot Locus is driving itself as vital as its parent label so far. And the 15th outing is another doozy from Casey Spillman. Drawing on spaced out house, breaks and electro as well as the underlying tech house that is this label's staple, he cooks up a fine new sound. 'Get Upper' is driving and punchy but with style and soul, then 'I Know' gets a little more unhinged with garage percussion and farting bass that will sound killer on a big system. There is a clean and serene melodic edge to 'Summer Dreaming' and its breezy groove, then 'Good Morning Ninety Free' rounds out with the best sound of the lot - a balmy, jazz tinged US house sound for the earliest hours in the morning.

Review: The Guesthouse label comes through with more irresistible house goodness from Joey Youngman who has been a master of this form for many years. His sound blends the best of funky, soulful grooves with raw house drums to light up any party. He kicks off in wild fashion with the big energy and chunky funk of 'Another Night' before 'Oakland' then layers up slinky drums and emotive vocal hooks into a bristling arrangement. Review: We've heard plenty about the underground electronic music scenes in Napoli, Milan and Rome, but not so much about the new wave of deep house and broken beat producers currently emerging from Bologna. This EP from Bristol's Boogie Cafe Records tries to put the record straight by bringing together a quartet of cuts from some of the city's fast-rising producers. Check first the insanely funky, broken house brilliance of Sam Ruffilo's blues-sampling "U Make Me Sing", before bathing in the jazzy solos, drowsy male vocals and jazz-funk-flecked cheekiness of D'Arabia's "Straight Outta Fire". Brine takes over on the flip, first joining forces with Ruffilo on the revivalist '90s NJ garage flex of "Request Line", before going solo on the ultra-deep, woozy and sun-kissed deep house warmth of "Star Chaser".

Teymori brings a woozy mood to "Running For You" with some sweet and sassy leads and a stunning vocal turn from Jace XL. Malik Hendricks brings a dreamy kind of jack to "Umore", while Ricky Razu ups the house pressure with a pumping beat fit for the likes of Chez Damier on "Soul Slide". Review: Cosmic Rhythm's in-house 'dream team' of label boss Nicola Laporchio (AKA Cosmic Garden and Nico Lahs) and regular contributor Michele Lamacchia (Rhythm of Paradise, 34th Floor Experience) rarely fails to impress. Their latest EP as Rydm Sectors, their first outing of 2023, is another doozy, with all four tracks being primed for peak-time house floors. They begin with the chunky, thickset, synth sax-sporting title track, a sweat-soaked and bass-heavy riff on classic New Jersey garage-house with an added early morning twist, before exploring Don Carlos-esque waters on the loved-up excellence of 'Be There'. 'Feeling You' is a drowsy, saucer-eyed riff on mid-tempo Italo-house of the early 90s, while 'Bring Me Tonite' is an atmospheric new jersey deep house shuffler.

Review: While Nicola Laporchio has received plenty of plaudits recently for his work as Cosmic Garden and NLXLB, he's released far more records of note - and over a longer period - as Nico Lahs. He recently delivered two terrific EPs under the alias on Omena, and here makes his debut on Quintessentials. He hits the ground running with the heads-down drive of 'Keep On Groovin', where a metronomic analogue bassline, bleeping melodies and layered percussion catch the ear, before breaking up the beats on the jazzy deep house warmth of 'Freakin'. Over on side B, 'Come Get Me' is an even deeper, classically dreamy affair with more than a few nods to the great Larry Heard, while 'Easy Loving You' is a languid, sample-rich shuffle that seems to make use of musical elements lifted from a groovy and organic dancefloor treat.

Review: 'Blue Train' is created by Piero and is the second release from the newly formed label, My Cup Of Tea. Piero, who is also the label owner, gives us four tracks of deep house that blend jazzier notes along with seductive grooves. The title track is an upbeat, pumping late-night gem that blends some vocals along with a smooth saxophone sample, 'Nikes On My Feet' adds a cool broken-beat rhythm to the mixture while still being pretty darn techy and funky and we love the use of the acid line that balances out the jazz sounds. For the B-side you have original version of 'International Language' along with a remix of it by Carlo (Carlos Alvarez). You can't go wrong with either version as a DJ. My Cup Of Tea is off to a strong start for sure.
