Espirito Das Maquinas (7:47)
Review: You could say that Kodiak Bachine is Brazil's greatest ever Brazilian electronic producer. That would not be an overstatement, it's just a simple fact. It was 1982 when he first released this EP, and it's been a classic, and a favourite of ours, ever since. In fact, "Electricidade" is so powerful because it sounds like it could have been made today; its tenebrous synths filling the airwaves from every angle, giving the track a strange sensation of lust and wonder. The flip, "Espirito Das Maquinas", is another enchanting ride through broken electric cables and abandoned power plants, a place where Bachine clearly thrives and surpasses all expectations. Highly recommend reissue!

Review: Kris Baha is fast becoming one of the most essential operators in the deviant disco underbelly of Berlin's scene, despite having landed in the city relatively recently. Baha's credentials with labels like Power Station and parties in Melbourne are all that you need to know, and now this release on the ever mighty Cocktail d'Amore seals the deal. Baha has never sounded more confident, pinging deviant synths around nasty drum bite and channeling the gods of industrial darkness to make some rugged body music for the darker kind of dancefloor. The experimental, non-party tracks are just as wild, dealing in all manner of uncompromising noise to further Baha's journey to the upper realms of sonic mud slingers.

Review: Minimal Wave presents a 4 song 7" EP by legendary German band Bal Pare. The band was formed in 1980 by Kirsten Klemm, Manfred Asmus and Matthias Schuster. Schuster, the brainchild behind the band, is also known for these projects: Geisterfahrer, Im Namen Des Volkes, Jeanette Und Das Land Z, and Das Institut. The four songs were recorded between 1981-1984 and are all previously unreleased. The songs range from really original, danceable dark synth with an early industrial feel to warmer synth pop, the last song featuring Kirsten on vocals. On colored vinyl with a hand silk screened heavy card stock jacket, a beautiful release, limited to 600 numbered copies.

Le Sacre De La Lumiere (5:23)
Vapeur De Mercure (4:27)
Review: The latest release on ever-crucial French jazz outpost Heavenly Sweetness welcomes the work of Bardainne Jaumet, a collaboration between accomplished French saxophonist Laurent Bardainne and Versatile regular Etienne Jaumet for four musically rich excursions into cosmic disco, Library music and the golden age of European synthesiser exploration. This is perhaps not what you might expect from the pairing of these two artists, or indeed the label, but the sheer compositional power and production of these two is simply undeniable. Grandiose statement pieces from two incredibly talented minds meeting on the same astral plane with a well-appointed studio as a vessel.

Don't Cry (6:20)
Elysium (6:13)
Don't Cry (Ambient version) (4:18)
Review: Producer and DJ Stephan Barnem teams up with fellow artist Futuristant for a cross-Mediterranean foray into high-concept melodic techno. 'Don't Cry' is nothing short of a euphoric anthem, mixing tropes from synthwave, electro and big room into a piece that could easily function as the next HALO soundtrack theme. A robotic voice narrates the entire journey - "bringing you light, I am the star, shining so bright, I am the rain refreshing the earth, I am the laughter, I am the mirth" - as if it were the telepathic monologue of a deus ex come to grant salvation to us all.

Review: For their latest No 'Label' release, Rush Hour has turned to "Brussels-based Prince of modern psychedelic electronics" Bear Bones, Lay Low, a prolific producer who has been delivering intriguing, synthesizer-based curiosities on obscure labels for well over a decade. Hacia La Luz begins with the trippy, Tangerine Dream-in-space swirl of "Lightning Eyelids", before heading to the rainforest with Timothy Leary and Terrence McKenna via the hallucinatory drums and humid electronics of "Jewelled Selva Mating Rites". Psychedelic synthesizer lines, exotic melodies and starburst electronics come to the fore on the album's other three tracks, with the magic mushrooms-in-Goa trip of "Crystal Poppies" standing out.

Coconut Paradise (5:01)
Review: Under the Beard In Dust alias, Leonid Lipelis has produced some of the most inspired re-edits released over the last decade, often turning chunks of long-forgotten Eastern European disco, boogie, synth-pop and AOR into quirky dancefloor gems. He's at it again here, launching the Crudo Rircordi imprint via a trio of eccentric, mid-80s treats. With its driving, kick-drum driven beat, addictive bassline, foreboding synthesizer motifs and Mediterranean guitars, 'Senor Paraiso' is a Balearic proto-house gem, while 'Kirkovmoroder' is a cheery chunk of AOR synth-pop turned into a tongue-in-cheek dancefloor treat. 'Coconut Paradise', meanwhile, is an Italo-disco style slab of peak-time campness straight from the top shelf.

Sexual Intruder Alert (6:41)
Approach & Identify (4:08)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Through his glittering catalogue for Public Possession, Bell Towers has proven himself to be a leading light in contemporary house that packs personality and class to match its club dynamics. His irreverent humour comes out in droves on "I'm Moving To Berlin", which thumps with the '80s-tinged energy he does so well. "Sexual Intruder Alert" actually sees the BT sound edge a little more towards techno, perhaps appropriate given the subject matter of the EP, and then "Approach & Identify" takes things in a tense, sleazy direction that jacks with a rawness you could imagine Ron Hardy going absolutely apeshit for.

Review: Belgian legend Benjamin Lew gets some light shone on him here by Stroom. They draw together highlights of his 1982 album "Douzieme Journee: Le Verbe, La Parure, L'Amour" which was produced with Tuxedomoon's Steven Brown and also include a rare compilation cut. Curious ambient with snaking leads and hymnal chords are evident on numbers such as "Il Les Quitta A L'aube", and more dark and rhythmic experimentation on the excellent "Dans Les Jardins." "A La Recherche De B" conveys a sense of creepiness and unease that you might associate with covert research projects and rounds out a fascinating work.

Review: So far, the Clan Destine imprint has been responsible for some of the most daring noise-techno infusions of the last three years, and their Clan Destine Traxx offshoot has brought up some straight up killers thanks to the like of Tuff Sherm, Torn Hawk et al. This latest remix package of the Bestial Mouths LP comes heavy with new faces - possible aliases of various established US artists - who waste no time in getting their point across: a cold, foreboding mixture of power electronics, EBM and techno. The A-side is all muddy, swamped distortion and grainy percussion, with our top pick being the Nightchilde remix of "Cloaked". As for the B-side, things take a turn for the dancefloor, and it's Funerals' re-wiring of "Faceless" which really shines through thanks to one hell of a bassline gargle, but Dalhous' version of "Movement" is a total breath-taker, where subtle swarms of feedback collide majestically with angelic pads and sunken choir vocals. Outsider house? More like demonic techno...

Serengeti Drive (4:53)
Mysteries Of The Deep (5:02)
Review: You wait ages for a Bezier record, and two come along at once. Following hot on the heels from his excellent Telemores mini-album for Dark Entries, synthesizer enthusiast Bezier drops a surprise 12" for the affiliated Honey Soundsystem. As usual, the French producer has his sights set on mining the past for inspiration. "Mina (Everywhere)" begins in typical fashion - all spacey synthesizers and twinkling melodies - before morphing into a relentless chunk of dirty, Italo-and-EBM inspired house. The pleasingly sunny "Serengeti Drive" is more of a stripped-back Italo-disco bubbler (admittedly with dream-wave flourishes), while "Mysteries of the Deep" offers an intergalactic romp through cold-wave pastures with only cheap old synths and drum machines for company.

Review: Big reissue here of Biba's classic Italo disco hit 'Top Model.' Originally released back in 1986, it came on the Italian imprint Out Records and was an instant hit in underground clubs. It has remain a much in demand tune ever since and you'll be hard pushed to even find a copy of an OG let alone afford it. It is a glossy, glamours but raw stomper with a great vocal and retro melodies while 'By Night' strips away the vocals. For his part, Flemming Dalum sticks closely to the original but adds new subtle touches to his outstanding take.

Tarzan Loves The Summer Nights
Tarzan
Review: Stupendously rare Italo gem from the criminally under-prolific Trieste-based Big Ben Tribe, this quirky poplet first came our way in 1984 on Gong. Last spotted changing hands for hundreds on auction sites, Dark Entries have done the disco world a favour and licensed a reissue. Untouched and naked in all its 80s glory, the synth patterns, abstract lyrics and arrangement were way ahead of their time and clearly influenced many electronic pop and Balearic bands who followed. Vocals just a bit too much for you? No worries, just flip for the instrumental. Tarzan loves summer nights, and we love Dark Entries for unearthing this utter classic.

Far From Glaxia is certainly a diverse affair, taking in the sounds of cosmic ('Let You Out'), neon-lit Italo with electro beats ('Known'), alien themed space-funk ('Time Machine') and soulful IDM reminiscent of the early '90s ('Passengers').

Living On The Ceiling (extended version) (5:32)
Review: First released way back in 1982, Blancmange's "Living On The Ceiling" remains one of the most alluring and eccentric of all new wave-era synth-pop cuts, in part because the unusual inclusion of tabla and sitar parts gives it an unusually exotic, mind-altering flavour. This timely reissue includes the original album mix (B1) and '82 12" version (B2), as well as two brand new reworks from the mighty Roman Flugel. The veteran German producer has delivered the goods, first via a deliciously wonky, otherworldly and analogue-rich revision that brilliantly fuses elements of trippy Teutonic techno and raw, turn-of-the-80s New Wave. As you'd expect, his accompanying dub takes the track further in this direction, delivering a deliciously skewed trip into sparse, heavy, early morning territory.

Review: For German retroverts Sign Bit Zero, it's "all about the expression of hate, despair, pain, waste, destruction, tristesse and misanthropic in art and music!" and that's good enough for us, really! On offer here are five noisy reinterpretations of some serious industrial unclassics. Hamburg's Wosto (of Fallbeil) takes the razor to UK pioneers Nocturnal Emissions and the raw tonal energy of "Bite Them Back". Label boss Kilian Krings appears also, delivering an edit of vintage EBM classic "Nervous Breakdown" by Suicide Commando and also for short lived Dutch trio S.M. Nurse and their grinding minimal synth anthem "Heinwerker". Some great edits on here for the new industrialists.

Review: Oh yes, the ever-impressive Mannequin label lands firmly vertical with their latest EP by Bourbonese Walk. The title track "Lies" is fitting of the label's usual mashup of techno and post-punk, where a broken drum arrangement meets a fiery line of howls and obscenities in a sort of Whitehouse style. If you thought that was special, you also have two remixes by none other than Ancient Methods, or better yet, a straighter edit of the original and a more booming remix for good measure. Kind of a must have, people!

Review: As per usual, those fiendish folks over at Dark Entries have amazed us once again with yet another barrel of 1980s gold from the depths of the underground. This time it's German new wave band Boytronic who see a reissue, and the EP in question is 1988's "Byllyant", which features the magnificent Plus 8 mix - a shot to the head made up of warm bass tones and hard-hitting drum machine patterns - and also the US mix, which literally sounds like it was made yesterday; for being an '80s EP, Boytronic steered well clear of cheesy and to be honest, they give New Order a proper run for their money. The 1984 mix of "Trigger Track" is a wonderful electro stormer, stamping its fast beats over eerie pads and growling basslines. This would be silly not to recommend! For the diggers.
