Acasual - "Her"
Tominori Hosoya - "Thinking Of The Days"
Kiddmisha & Apoena - "Dancin"
Jonno & Tommo - "Mystic Feelings"
Review: The latest offering on Owen Jay's Batti Batti label features a cast of characters doing different but equally excellent things within the realm of deep house. Acasual is up first, presenting a reflective tour through lingering chords and swirling pads perfect for rainy spring days, while Tominori Hosoya goes one further with the soul-stirring ambience of "Thinking Of The Days". Kiddmisha & Apoena set light to the B-side with the restrained but utterly on-point depth charge "Dancin", and then Jonno & Tommo round the record out with the sultry "Mystic Feelings", making this a complete package of high grade house music from the heart.

Cat: LHT 001. Rel: 05 Sep 12
Alphonse - "Survival" (part 1)
Fx Mchn - "Jackie"
Jamie Blanco - "I Think She Thinks"
Facade - "Revelations"
Review: The newly established London Housing Trust label inaugurate proceedings with a various artists 12" featuring contributions from Cynic artist Jamie Blanco alongside the previously unheralded Alphonse, Fx Mchn and Facade. It's unclear who the latter are but inside info suggests it's three well known artists operating incognito, but don't let this wilful obscurism put you off as each track here is optimum analogue house at its finest. The Fx Mchn contribution "Jackie" is particularly beguiling, touching on jagged punk funk as much as late 80s house with echo laden vocals smudged deep beneath a delightfully rubbery bass line and buccaneering, malfunctioning drums for six minutes. A promising debut from the label!

Alterleo - "Train To..." (6:59)
Al Gobi - "Rule Of Three" (9:02)
Jack Pattern & John Parsley - "Kaboom" (5:55)
Roger Van Lunteren - "On And Dna No (The Sun Riser)" (5:06)
Phil Gerus - "Prelude To Love" (4:37)
Review: The XXX crew are on a mission to celebrate the adventurous and utterly well-informed dance music scene of Amsterdam, and they move to the fourth release on their label with a strong cast of characters that all have something different to say. Alterleo opens up the 12" with the low-throbbing psyche out of "Train To..." before Al Gobi takes over with the aqueous hardware house bubbles of "Rule Of Three". On the B side, Jack Pattern & John Parsley work together to lay down a fierce blend of industrial and disco that will send shivers down your spine. Roger Van Lunteren meanwhile revels in the squelchiest kind of esoteric acid with a new age mystique thrown in for good measure, and then Phil Gerus provides a soothing soliloquy to finish this distinctive record off.

Moods & Grooves Classics V3
Andres - "Just A Player"
Brad Peterson - "Trickchords"
John Tejada & Adrian Leviste - "Fashion Avenue" (remix)
Ewan Jansen - "New Stride" (Deez Follow Da Bass remix)
Review: "Classics" releases work best when the material being showcased is either obscure, hard to find or overlooked. Much of the material on this third trawl back through the vaults of Mike Grant's Moods & Grooves imprint ticks all these boxes. For example, Andres' "Just A Player" - a refreshingly loose and bumping fusion of warm disco samples, snappy beats and a killer bassline - has never previously appeared on wax. Then there's the soul-flecked, jazz-house/broken beat hybrid "Fashion Avenue (Remix)" by John Tejada and Leviste, which sounds remarkably fresh despite being 14 years old. As for Brad Peterson's strutting, acid bass-propelled "Trickchords", we're struggling to find any reference to it having been released before. Whether it has or not, it's as essential as the rest of this superb EP.

Arnaldo - "People In The Sand"
Joey Anderson - "One World"
October - "Decompression Chamber"
Leif - "Until Dawn"
Review: It is labels like UntilMyHeartStops that proudly do deep house justice. The fourth EP to come from the UK imprint, and third this year, is a various artist sampler featuring label inaugurator Joey Anderson, who is joined by the best of British; October, Lief and the impressive Arnaldo. The latter opens the EP with something sparse, dubby and lonely in "People In The Sand", while A Side companion Anderson delivers an effervescent and cosmic "One World". October toughens up the EP with his bullish and phase filtered "Decompression Chamber", while the combined classicalism, ambience and slow drums of Lief's "Until Dawn" is reminiscent to Sven Weisemann's music as Joeum.

Get Up Off It
Review: Sometime Philpot and 4lux artist Arttu arises on the Clone imprint for the first time - and the results are just as good as the Rotterdam label's preceding output this year. Presented as the results of some spontaneous studio jams with Detroit artist Jerry The Cat, there's an undeniable sense of fun to both tracks here. Lead track "Nuclear Funk" is loose limbed analogue house at its finest, with rough hewn drums and a delightfully elastic bassline soon joined by Jerry's inimitable improvised refrain and lolloping percussive textures. "Get Up Off It" is altogether more scattergun, with gleefully disjointed drum machine rhythms raining down on the gloopy analogue bass line before a heavily delayed Jerry The Cat comes to the fore.

Nuclear Funk (A Made Up Sound remix)
Get Up Off It (Dexter remix)
Review: Dexter and A Made Up Sound get the Clone call to mess with the material from Arttu's great debut on the Royal Oak label, and naturally the results are a must have. In their original form both "Nuclear Funk" and "Get Up Off It" were the improvised results of a studio session between the 4Lux artist and Detroit vocalist Jerry The Cat. It's a bit of a genius stroke from Clone to enlist two well respected audio technicians like Dexter and Dave Huisman to bend them further out of shape, with the latter's take on "Nuclear Funk" a particular demented delight. Operating under his alias A Made Up Sound, this remix typically smudges the boundaries between genre and rhythm to suit his own needs, reworking the synths to sound like a faltering dot matrix printer over incessantly stumbling drums. Dexter indulges his love of 303 patterns on a remix of "Get Up Off It" that stays closer to the original's origins and makes for a nice contrast to the A Side onslaught.

Awanto - "Sit On This"
S3A aka Sampling As An Art - "The Ravist"
Jared Wilson - "You Get Down"
Samuel Andre Madsen - "Waterwalking Paris"
Review: Concrete has been integral in the rebirth of Parisian clubbing culture, offering a unique 19 hour long party that begins early on Sunday and goes on and on in the picturesque setting of the Port De La Rapee on the River Seine. Looking to expand, this new Concrete Music label should operate as an extension of the party commencing with a series of three planned Textures releases inviting local talent and previous guests to contribute. Volume 1 inaugurates the label in style, brandishing original productions from the excellent Jared Wilson, Awanto 3 and Nsyde artist Samuel Andre Madsen as well as Parisian producer S3A (Sampling As An Art). "Sit On This" is a typically dusty slice of house from Awanto 3 which contrasts nicely with the percussion heavy classicist house of "The Ravist" by S3A and the deep acid of Jared Wilson. Madsen takes it deep and moody on "Waterwalking Paris" to end a superb and diverse debut release.

Control Tower Observations (John Heckle mix)
Review: New label Scenery drops the debut EP from Bantam Lions which features two special remixes from John Heckle. Pressed on heavyweight 180 gram vinyl, "One To One" opens with piqued pan pipes, funky synths and subtle saxophones allowing John Heckle to bring the jack and analogue persuasion in his high energy remix. Shuffled hats, dusty scraps and spooked out rhodes make up "Control Tower Observations". John Heckles this time pitches down the original's rhodes, throwing in some extra claps to ensure his trademark percussion concussion drum programming is kept in tact.

Edy Alta - "First Sign Of Artifice" (6:18)
Protect-U - "Krums" (6:01)
Jeremy Hyman - "Machine Stops" (edit) (5:37)
Review: A few eyebrows were raised when Future Times announced that the third installment of their popular Vibe compilation series would be spread across three 12" singles, rather than the double-pack they've previously used. Clearly, they've simply got too much high-grade material to share. Certainly, there's plenty of highlights on this second EP, from the ricocheting drum machine beats and new age melodies of Beautiful Swimmers' "Primo", to the fizzing techno rhythms and blissful, tuneful synthesizers of Eddy Alta's rather quite brilliant "First Sign of Artifice". With additional, high-grade fare from co-founders Protect-U and label newcomer Jeremy Hyman lurking on the flip, you'd be foolish not to grab a copy while you can.

Blind Box - "Would"

Julian Alexander - "Casserole"
Review: Blind Box heads Julien Sandre and Konstress know a thing or two about deep, undulating house grooves, and their continued exploration of immersive cuts for hidden corners of the dance yields further delights on this sixth instalment in the Blind Box series. The first side of this 12" finds the two label bosses twisting out immaculate jams shot through with playful sound design. "Would" locks into a subtle swing and revels in lopsided synth stabs, while "Hedone" plunges into a stunning intricate techno landscape peppered with glitchy tones. On the flip, Julian Alexander follows suit with the crisp, funky "Baku Man" and the more experimental tones of "Casserole".

BLM - "My Sound Tool"
Flori - "Red Rectangle"
James Johnston - "Lights Off"
Review: Since launching at the tail end of 2011, the Black Key label has proved itself to be a solid destination for those seeking high-grade deep house. Here, they showcase the work of a trio of 'friends of the family'. BLM opens proceedings with "My Sound Tool", a fluid chunk of eyes-wide-shut deepness containing just the right amount of bump. James Johnston's "Lights Off" is typical of his recent atmospheric outings, and matches the loose fluidity of BLM's opener. Best of all, though, is Flori's "Red Rectangle", a Larry Heard-ish chunk of classic Chicago deepness with just a hint of classic analogue shuffle.

TMTT (6:26)
Review: Remember the sense of excitement when Boddika and Joy Orbison first hooked up for the track "Mercy"? Nearing 200,000 plays on the former's SoundCloud there's every chance you do, and if you don't, well you've more than likely, unknowingly, swung your hips to the jarring bassline of that club hit. Three years on, it's still a production partnership that is going strong through their irregular Sunklo transmissions, which have latterly been replaced with an ongoing series of single sided 10" releases. After the pair unleashed "Tricky's Team" last year, the latest 10" from Joy Orbika (as no one calls them) is "TMTT", a colourful fusion of arpeggiated synths, spaced out beats, thickset chords and a bassline that sounds like something from the dancing broom scene of Disney's Fantasia.

Body In The Thames - "Silver Threaded Crystal Beads" (6:02)
Peach - "Silky" (7:13)
Jay - "Balsam Drum" (6:30)
Webstarr - "The Muse" (7:02)
Review: Midland's Graded launches a new diffusion imprint: Intergraded. Featured here are four cuts from emerging producers. With Graded now focusing on the label boss's solo work and ReGraded catering to a different style altogether - the logical progression was to start a new label that could help introduce this music to a wider audience. Body In The Thames kicks things off on the A side - despite the name he's actually Swedish. His track "Silver Threaded Crystal Beads" is an emotive piece that sits somewhere between early Detroit techno and electro, in the vein of the Motor City godfather Juan Atkins. This is followed by the slinky tech house of "Silky" by London's Peach - a sturdy number supported by ethereal elements. On the flip, NTS host Jay (Siren) presents some moody, heads down techno for the late night on "Balsam Drum" while Yorkshire native Webstarr (De Grey/Mistry) goes deep into the afterhours on the darkly hypnotic "The Muse".

Splinters
Review: Say hello to the Bridge & Tunnel Kids, a new project from a name familiar to fans of Greek label Echovolt. New Jerseyite Jorge 'Professor Genius' Velez is behind Bridge & Tunnel Kids and the producer returns to Echovolt having scored the label's debut release back in 2009 as part of PG&S alongside William Burnett. Just to keep it that bit cuter, the WT Records boss is also present here in remix form. Both return to Echovolt with the label fully established as a Mediterranean ally of Creme, LIES et al and with their own profiles raised high. Velez's three cuts here present a raw yet poised side to him, with lead track "Persistence" reminiscent of a slack jawed Legowelt, whilst the Willie Burns remix of the title track is equally fuzzy edged and smudged out.

Brodka - "Varsovie" (Eltron John dub)
Alex Ketzer - "Falling Off" (Sandrow M remix)
Cuthead - "Splenda Daddy"
Jacob Stoy - "Inspektor"
Review: On this latest transmission from the vale of Dresden, the Uncanny Valley crew have sewn together another four solid cuts of convention-bucking house music to suit more adventurous ears. Brodka comes correct with a heartfelt turn that isn't afraid to embrace vocals within a stripped construction, while Sandrow M's remix of Alex Ketzer opts for a darker tone weighed down by growling bass before turning out some Joy O-style vocal mangling. Cuthead meanwhile is not as concerned with refined production, instead delivering a rugged acid melter that blossoms into a thoroughly jazzed-out affair. Jacob Stoy has his own curious take to bring to the table, working around minimal tones and a simple beat and fleshing the track out with discordant keys that have their own modal message to intone.
