Future Is Gone (6:12)
Medano (7:32)
Suggestion (6:02)
Basic Instinct (6:50)
Review: Molen's 'Future Is Gone' delivers four standout techno tracks, bringing a futuristic energy to the dancefloor. Side-1 kicks off with the title song, driven by a pulsating bassline and a powerful groove, enhanced by spacey sound effects that add an extra dimension. Next up is 'Medano', a journey into a sci-fi world with an exciting acid line and a rhythm that builds in intensity, making it a true trip. On Side-2, 'Suggestion' keeps the momentum going with a killer beat that makes it another solid addition to the release. Finally, 'Basic Instinct' brings an 80s-inspired groove, blending new beat and electro influences for something fresh and unique. This EP from Special Bounce packs plenty of variety, perfect for fans of innovative techno who are looking to get lost in a futuristic vibe.

Angel Eyes (Tiga remix) (6:59)
Angel Eyes (7:47)
Angel Eyes (dub mix) (7:55)
Review: Definitely one for the collectors, Lime was Canadian duo (then husband and wife) Denis and Denyse LePage, and 'Angel Eyes' was originally the second single from their third studio album, 1983's Lime III. Almost 40 years later, the track has returned as a short form release, offering the original synth pop anthem, and a clubbier dub mix.

For many, though, not least Unidisc Canada, the label carrying this re-release, the major selling point is a remix - and something of a remodelling - courtesy of Turbo Recordings boss and dance music icon Tiga. Forsaking the rather smiley and bouncy original work, in favour of something grittier and altogether more dystopian, it's a masterclass of rough, gnarly broken electro, reworking and chopping vocals into disorientating loops, before finally introducing a kind of warehouse synth pop sound.

Review: Between 1983 and '87, Fun Fun - a studio project fronted by a trio of female vocalists - delivered some of the most commercially successful Italo-disco records around, with a trademark sound that drew much from the club-ready sound of Hi-NRG. This double-disc collection, subtitled 'The Final Edition', rounds up their greatest hits, B-sides, album tracks, alternative mixes and club versions. Fittingly, it begins with their most lauded track of all, the 'Scratch Mix' of 'Happy Station', before offering up such gems as the tactile and dreamy synth-pop perfection of 'Sing Another Song (Remix)', the soaring Hi-NRG pop perfection of 'Baila Bolero', the sing-along joy of 'Give Up Your Fight (Boxer Remix)' - which sounds like a lost Shep Pettibone club rework from 1986 - and a silly-but-fun cover of the Monkees 'I'm a Believer'.

Ancora Un Bacio (8:45)
Un Sogno Per La Testa (5:57)
Review: Since launching in 2018, the Belpaese imprint has delivered a string of must-check EPs featuring re-edits of old Italian songs and instrumentals. It's a bit of a niche pursuit, but given the country's contribution to dance music culture over the years one that makes total sense. Volume ten in the series arrives with two sweat-soaked cut-jobs to enjoy. 'Ancora Un Baccio' is a quirky and eccentric Italo-disco number that boasts both rubbery slap-bass (including some energetic soloing) and surging electronic bass, alongside suitably camp lead vocals and heady vocalisations. 'Un Sogno Per La Testa' is a bit more Balearic minded, with the shadowy scalpel fiends making merry with what sounds like a holiday-ready 1980s pop song full of glistening guitar licks, jazz-funk bass and unfussy beats.

Time For Changes (Vanzetti & Sacco instrumental) (5:56)
Review: There is never anything less than exquisite that comes from the Dutch label Bordello A Parigi. And this new one from Faxe is only short but it really packs a punch. Time For Change sis the dazzling Italo disco opera with shooting arps, tinny retro future synths and 80s drum machines sound powering it along. Steamy vocals add further allure. The Vanzetti & Sacco instrumental in the flip is perfect body music for floors that want to get in a sweat. As always this is a must cop from one of the day's best disco labels.

Review: This off-beat classic from Ze Carlos has been specially remastered for this reissue. It is a wonderful weird Italian product with deriving Italo melodies and Brazillian lyrics as well as plenty of freestyle beats. On the flip side is a brilliant dub version remixed by Bob One that channels plenty of Arthur Russell vibes. It has Latin drums and lots of percussive energy and is finished in a sophisticated style that makes it all the more standout. The low end is hefty and clear while the mids are nice and roomy. It's a surefire winner when dropped on the right 'floor.

Review: Legalize Lambada Vol 6 brings a vibrant Italo homage that showcasing the talents of Albion, Ric Piccolo, and Hysteric. Side-1 kicks off with Albion's 'Nucleare,' an early 80s DIY sound track seasoned with robotic Italian vocals, serving as a unique introduction. Next, Ric Piccolo's 'Disco Teacher' delivers a potent mix of early disco and 80s electro sounds, setting the stage for some serious dancefloor action. On Side-2, Ric Piccolo returns with 'Alright,' continuing the danceable energy with another infectious groove. Finally, Hysteric's 'Moment' offers a moody, keyboard-rich Italo house track, exuding a sexy, soulful vibe that prompts deep, introspective dance moves. This compilation is for fans of Italo disco and disco and those seeking something fresh in these genres. Legalize Lambada Vol 6 is steeped with that Italo sound with modern twists, making it perfect for both nostalgic disco enthusiasts and new listeners alike. Review: Eagles & Butterflies has had plenty of notable tunes over the years. No doubt that is why he gets the nod from Gerd Jansen's legendary Running back label to offer up Retropolis Vol 01. It is a four-track EP that shows off the producer's well-realised sounds. The title track is the real standout - 'Retropolis' brings electro-styled synth work with brilliantly future retro euro-disco energy. It's packed with hints of Italo and is sure to light up any club scene. Says the producer of the EP, "Retropolis is the past meets the future. I love influences and technology from the past and making music that sounds like it could be from a time yet to arrive." Mission accomplished.

Darkness Inside (7:12)
Go Break (4:34)
Fog (5:43)
Review: Riccardo Cioni is well-known as a mastermind behind early Italo disco, coming up in the Florentine disco scene with his troupe, Bella Band. His later solo outings, first made on the cusp of the 1980s, marked a more electronic shift, and 'Darkness Inside' is a strong example of his best work from that time. First released in '84, the three tracks on this early nu-disco heater cement Cioni's chops as a deft, swift and talented producer, with vocoded jams such as 'Go Break' and city slap-bassers like the title track locking in something timelessly futurologic. It could only ever have been a product of its time, though; these are three serene, yet hard-hitting, proto-nu-disco bangers.

Review: Maurice's McGee's majestic 'Do I Do' is very much an Italo-disco classic that was released back in 1983 on Full Time Records. On this latest welcome reissue, the extended vocal version (remastered to sound extra loud) is accompanied by the arguably superior Instrumental take, which wisely highlights clipped disco guitars and the superb, synth-heavy groove. It features the man himself - under a new and an invented alias for a local Genova singer recruited by the prolific Studio G production team - tells a tale of missed parties and late night opportunities over a backing track that sits somewhere between the all-arpeggio grooves of Italian disco and the slick, synth-heavy warmth of '83 New York boogie.

Review: Second time around for Francesca Macri's first outing as System Olympia, which originally landed in stores back in 2017. This time round, she's expanded it from eight tracks to six, adding a couple more unheard and unreleased cuts from the period to the enticing bvlend of original productions, pitched-down reworks and sneaky re-edits. Beginning with the pitched-down electrofunk of 'Call Girl' (a tweak of a little-known Danny Boy tune), Macri ambles her way through synth-and-drum machine heavy cuts that variously touch on Italo-disco, leftfield '80s synth-pop, new wave, Balearic pop (see 'Close to My Nebula'), dreamy electro and slow-motion excellence. Atmospheric, synth-powered and full of playable cuts, it's a fine EP all told.

Review: Red Laser Records continue their stellar form with another knockout release, blending Manctalo fire from old hands and fresh faces alike. Frank Butters opens the EP with The Call Of The Wild, a dazzling blast of crystalline synths, thunderous bass, and cosmic effects that showcase his forward-thinking production skills. Bob Swans delivers 'Bodyform4U', a dreamy arpeggiated groove that builds an uplifting, futuristic atmosphere, perfect for igniting the dancefloor. Lone Saxon switches things up with 'Hypersleep' a breakbeat-infused piano gem that oozes nostalgic charm, before Franz Scala and Il Bosco finish strong with Webo, a late-night, tension-filled Manctalo banger.

Clean drum patterns lay the foundation, complemented by captivating melodies that shimmer throughout the track. Lauer's remix adds an analogue touch with piano keys, infusing a sense of late-night romance. On the flip side, 'Forelskelse' transports listeners to Scandinavia, blending disco and house elements to create an uplifting atmosphere filled with emotive energy. David Bay's remix of 'Forelskelse' offers a measured yet addictive rendition, allowing the instruments to shine while retaining the essence of the original. Together, these tracks comprise a mesmerising soundtrack for the approaching summer season, promising nights filled with dancefloor joy and unexplored passions.

Review: Originally released in 1983 by House Of Music, a label run by one Italian producer Mr. Master (Roberto Ferrante), 'A Dog In The Night' is the splash single and defining statement of its namesake. The track is hardly without its quirks, with its originally sticky hardware-jammed energy sustaining itself well into this present version, and vocals decidedly almost of key, but clinging on by a harmonic thread in real DIY-disco fashion. Reissued and remastered in 2014 by Archivio Fonografico Moderno, a label set on restoring obscure Italian music, it now once again comes reissued via another label, Best.

It's built around a soaring female vocal that brings an angelic edge to the far-sighted 80s chords and cold, crashing machine drum sounds. As often is the way with this label, this mighty original comes with Flemming Dalum remixes that bulk it up for modern dancefloors with a chugging and irresistible sense of ALFOS funk and then ups the synth energy on a more poppy version to close.

Here we have the latest reissue of some classic Italo disco tunes from the much-loved outfit, all remastered once more. This trip of top tunes have been taken from their 1983 album and they sound as good now as ever. 'An English '93' is a strident cut with melodies washing over the face of the cold drums and big chord stabs. 'Run Away' then gets breezy on a summer groove, and closer 'Bubble Rap' has that super old school feel.

Review: Hard-hitting Italo/darkwave from Italian group Kirlian Camera, a longtime act in the genres and one of their many defining bands. 'Communicate' is reissued from an initial release in 1983, and is as dubious and 'dark' as this kind of music can get, sounding like what would have happened to Talking Heads if each member had been given a hoverbike and rode it into a Miami sunset. Remixes from Flemming Dalum and Vanzetti & Sacco appear on the B-side - while brightening, warming and changing the instruments in parts, they prove little needs to be altered about the track in order to bring out its best parts.

Presumably the title of this Azimuth EP is a nod to its influences aka the cult and much loved Brazillian jazz-funk outfit, Azimuth. The label's own Furor Exotica helps on the first track, which is the Dee D. Jackson inspired 'Automaton Lover' with its big disco sounds and bombastic beats. The title tune then has a super addictive melody and inviting instrumental while there are thick basslines to 'Spectral Fantasy' complete with smoky lyrics from Vongold, The smooth finale is 'Light Years' with its rich lounge vibes.

Review: Way back in 1982, a disparate group of Italian musicians gathered under the supervision of producers Donan, Tam and Orealbo to make some instrumental music inspired by different countries and continents. The resultant self-titled set, credited to Joker, has long been a sought-after set amongst Italo-disco collectors and those that sway to the Balearic beat. In truth, it's sometimes hard to hear the specific influences from the places sonically celebrated, but the music - a mix of bold Italo-disco synths, squelchy electrofunk sounds, disco drums, dreamy chords, nods to jazz-funk and splashes of aural colour - is attractive, enjoyable, funky, eccentric and genuinely beguiling.

Review: It seems like Italo, although always popular, is having a particular moment in the spotlight right now. Plenty of it is being reissued, including the classic self titled 1980s album from Kano, the Italy-based ensemble's debut full-length which mixed up synth funk and disco across six vibrant cuts. It very much hinted at the electro and breakdance movements to come in the years after and now the opening track from the album gets a standout and standalone reissue on 12", alongside a new 2022 mix and Purple Disco Machine & Lorenz Rhode remixes.

Review: Red Laser is back with just one more gem before the end of the year of our Lord 2024. Apparently already tried and tested at recent parties in Manchester, this release brings four prime Italo disco edits all curated by Bosco. These tracks were unearthed during his many trips to Italy and have since been refined for the club and 'Destiny' opens with pulsating arpeggios, cosmic bass and a stunning female vocal that gets the airtime it deserves. Next, 'Flavio' delivers a classic Italo vibe, 'Newsin' is a catchy track blending marimba and synth and closer 'Lace' is a proto-goth new wave piece with a romantic edge.

Review: It is now 40 years old but copping a reasonably priced vinyl version of Faxe's 'Time For Changes' is still a tough ask. But no need to worry because ZYX have got this super reissue version out in time for its 40th anniversary. It comes with the dazzling original version complete with silky Italo arps and chilly retro drum machine sounds and also an instrumental, plus the usual remixes from Flemming Dalum on the flip. He extends the breaks and makes the tune a little more suited to contemporary DJ play.

Review: Larry Pignagnoli, Alessandro Zanni and Stefano Cundari created Brando, the quintessential short-lived Italo project. The first two singles from the group landed in 1983, one of which is now lovingly repressed by the original label, ZYX Music. As well as the vintage versions, we get treated to a couple of versions from the go-to remixer for tracks from this period, Flemming Dalum. It's released as a 40th anniversary piece commemorating this classic slice of sentimental, full-fat Italo, but with these new remixes there's plenty to appeal to die-hards and casual observers alike.

Review: Martin Matiske was discovered by DJ Hell as something of a child prodigy already deeply immersed in the history and present moment of electro and synth-pop, and by 2012 he had already released his debut album Robotermusik. This release on Bordello A Parigi revives one of the tracks from that album, 'Dimension Phantasy', and gives it a standalone release with some interesting remixes. Captain Mustache does a fine job of threading extra arpeggio sparkle into the track without derailing it, while Play Paul turns the track into his own bombastic synth-pop anthem which appears in vocal and instrumental versions.

Stripiz (Marcello Giordani DJ Re-interpretation) (6:52)
Review: Since launching in 2014, Disco Segreatha has done a great job in unearthing and reissuing Italian disco gems from the late70s and early 80s. Their latest offering takes us back to 1978 and the sole solo release from Lele Patha, the exceedingly hard-to-find 'Stripiz'. Typical of Italian disco of the period, it's a quirky and pleasingly off-kilter affair, where an, organic disco groove is laden with fuzzy synth sounds, breathy male vocal snippets, swirling electronic chords, mazy organ solos and Candido style hand percussion. The release is also notable for a surprise B-side remix, courtesy of Marcello Giordani, which brilliantly re-imagines the cut as a throbbing, drum machine-driven slab of early 80s Italo-disco excellence.

Review: Clarita y Los Pecho Lobo's Marcelo EP encapsulates a mesmerising nightlife narrative through diverse mixes. The original version unfolds with evocative imagery of strobe-lit trajectories and cocktail-fueled allure, set against a backdrop of pastel shirts and Cuban-heeled boots. The Energy Mix amplifies the pulse with its extended dancefloor vigor, while the Club House Version infuses a deeper, rhythmic groove. The Makina Mix adds an edgy, experimental flair, contrasting with the stripped-back intimacy of the Acappella. Each iteration enriches the nocturnal saga, where encounters like Marcelo's magnetic presence and seductive allure unfold effortlessly. This release not only celebrates musical diversity but also paints a vivid tableau of desire and escapism, echoing through the pulse of the night.

Review: Rome's Andy Romano is welcomed into the Bordello family with his long-awaited debut release, 'Monday'. The tracks it consists of were shelved for more than ten years, said to have floated between a handful of DJs after its first confidant, Andrea Confrancesco, chose a different path in his creative career by becoming a professional illustrator. An excellent example of naive, nigh-lo-fi new beat, but no less punchy and galactic, 'Monday', 'Loredane' and 'Cyber Black Spaceship' are a veritable trident of watery, retrofuturistic, catchy wonderment.

Review: This release marks Netherlands-born Luca dell'Orso's debut on CWPT, showcasing his talent for crafting lush, melodic Italo tracks with a timeless feel. 'Solitair & Solidair' sets the tone, its soft fanfare and confident groove evoking the spirit of Balearic ecstasy. 'Dear Rosie,' featuring Jolisa's wistful vocals, is a highlight, its melody reminiscent of a classic Eric Rohmer film. 'Winter Scent' delves into a more introspective mood, capturing the essence of a winter walk with its evocative vocoding and deep sonic layers. 'Love By Association' injects a sense of optimism, its driving rhythm and pitch-shifting synthesis reminiscent of classic Eurodisco. 'Propaganda' takes a more forceful approach, offering a glimpse into the industrial pleasures of Dusseldorf in the 1980s. 'This Time (Things Will Be Different)', finally, wraps up an impressive package with a touch of elegant minimalism.
