Tessera (remixes)
Cat: SUSH 0116. Rel: 29 Oct 10
Anonym - "Go Deeper" (Kenny Larkin remix)
Soulmate - "Set Fire To My Feet" (Chez Damier Set Fire To My Feet mix)
Leonel Castillo - "Stone Peace" (Delano Smith remix)
Review: Sushitech finally unveil the second round of Tessera remixes and they've really gone to town here with contributions from Chicago and Detroit heavyweights. Kenny Larkin takes over the A Side with a superlative remix of Anonym, infusing "Go Deeper" with some vintage Motor City soul via deep organ flourishes and searing strings. This is more than matched by Chez Damier who adds some real bump to the drum programming of Soulmate's "Set Fire To My Feet", retaining the bassline throb but replacing the hopeful mood with something altogether sleazier. Finally Leonel Castillo's subaqueous exercise in filtered jazzy deepness is given a soaring once over from Delano Smith, who adds some weight to the groove and introduces delightful chords for good measure. Essential stuff!

Elektropia EP
Cat: OPIA 001. Rel: 29 May 18
Audri - "Cyclick" (6:04)
Luis Malon - "ABE Security Systems" (6:43)
Basement Space - "Electronic Orbit" (6:59)
Antoine Sy - "Passion Vitesse" (5:48)
Review: Those with a keen interest in London's techno and electro scene may already be familiar with OPIA, a well-regarded party collective who have been running events in the city since the summer of 2016. The Elektropia EP marks the debut of their new offshoot label and gathers together a quartet of quality cuts from friends and like-minded souls around the world. Audri kicks things off with the simple but hugely effective sci-fi techno/deep house fusion of "Cyclick", before Luis Malon drops a hugely attractive and stargazing chunk of punchy dancefloor electro. Turn to the flipside for the deep, melodious and delicious electro/breakbeat fusion of Basement Space's "Electronic Orbit", not to mention the chunky, bass-heavy tech-house hustle of Antoine Sy's "Passion Vitesse".

10 YRS RMX EP2 (Markus SuckuT, BNJMN, Aubrey, Tripeo mixes)
Cat: JR 009.2. Rel: 28 Oct 19
AWOL - "54 973379, -1 614705" (Markus Suckut remix) (7:07)
Artefakt - "Wanderings" (BNJMN remix) (5:54)
Luke Hess - "TDY" (Aubrey remix) (6:50)
Deep'a & Biri - "Pilgrim" (Tripeo Journey mix) (5:48)
Review: Jaunt continue their 10 year celebrations with another strong cast of remixers taking their vision of techno even further out from the point of origin. Markus Suckut is up first, remixing AWOL with a blissful, almost Balearic leaning version that places piano chords front and centre. BNJMN takes on Artefakt's "Wanderings", digging it into the undergrowth for a gritty but submerged beatdown. Aubrey brings a little of his wildstyle charm to Luke Hess' "TDY", all bouncing drums, raining acid and delightfully wonky chords. Then Tripeo rounds things off with a boisterous take on Deep'a & Biri's "Pilgrim", using clattering drums and evocative atmospherics to create an epic trip.

TYVYT IYTYI - "Never Here Before" (4:55)
Jann - "Al Batard" (5:42)
Retrograde Youth - "Final Days" (4:36)
LVRIN - "Black Tank" (4:58)
Review: Somewhat later than initially intended, Pinkman serves up the second volume in its celebratory "Five Years of Tears" series (the first landed back in April 2018). As was the case with its predecessor, the six-track set is made up entirely of previously unreleased material. This time round, the majority of the material is inspired by EBM, industrial, coldwave and other skewed, left-of-centre electronic sounds from the 1980s. The material is uniformly strong, with highlights including the sweaty, percussive, all-action insanity of "Al Batard" by Jann, sleazy, mid-tempo EBM pulse of Kris Baha's superb "Beatthemachine" and the pitch-black, DAF style intensity of Retrograde Youth's "Final Days".

Curved (Bambounou Hyper Street remix) (4:09)
Review: Bristol bestie badmen Batu and Lurka clash up once again for another Fringe excursion. One track, one remix, "Curved" gets straight to the point with its loosely broken house beats, grumbling bass bubbles and drunken synth scribbles. If you recall the dubby delights of Craig Richards & Lee Burridge's Tyrant project years ago, you're in the right area. Need things a little spicier? Flip for Bambounou's up-tempo twist where the drums are fully broken, the tension is higher and there's a trippy-assed breakdown that will bend your dancefloor's minds. Limited to 300, this won't hang around.

Steve Bicknell - "Odyssey #1" (4:08)
Post Scriptum - "Human Timescales" (7:31)
LB Dub Corp - "So Much" (6:28)
Blue Hour - "Parallels" (6:17)
Review: It's always a good day for techno when new Steve 'master of the loop' Bicknell material arises, just like it's done here on the first sampler for Function's Berghain 07 mix. "Odyssey #1" is a distorted gyration through fizzy atmospheres and chocked bleeps, while Post Scriptum's rolling "Human Timescales" is a cross between the Hauntologists sound and the beats heard on Tobias' Leaning Over Backwards album, also released on Ostgut Ton. There's some transatlantic vibes on LB Dub Corp's "So Much", while the emerging Blue Hour sees his zapping drum track keep the sustain on his synth locked for the entirety of the B2.

Bushwick Is Melting Volume 2
Cat: SJ 002. Rel: 19 Mar 15
Black Meteoric Star - "Unearthed Arcana" (17:43)
Lorna Dune - "Reflux" (5:40)
J Slusher - "Night Train" (8:28)
Review: The second volume of Bushwick Is Melting features original unreleased material by Brooklyn-based producers Black Meteoric Star, Lorna Dune, and J. Slusher. Gavin Russom apparently has a new Black Meteoric Start LP on the way and we can't wait based on the epic, sweeping grandness that is the 18 minute A-side hogger "Unearthed Arcana" which is quite hypnotic when in full flight. The B-side finds Lorna Dune putting her experiments with the piano to one side to focus on some celestial house moves with "Reflux" which will appeal to fans of Legowelt's more star gazing moments whilst the wonderfully named J. Slusher closes out the record with the face melting techno cut "Night Train".

Orson Wells - "Ratio" (Roger 23 remix) (7:40)
Leaves - "Third Floor" (Pablo Mateo remix) (6:31)
Glyn - "Kevin Lomax" (Orson Wells remix) (5:39)
Review: Ron Wilson's 777 serves up more raw and rusty house jams on a new various artists sampler entitled Internal Affairs: this is serious! On the A side is newcomer Brighton with "Tesla" (Leaves Remix), while Frankfurt's Orson Wells gives us "Ratio" where Saarbruckens finest: Roger 23 gets on the remix and delivers a lush deep acid rendition this side of Tin Man. On the flip, Leaves returns with the impressive "Third Floor" getting an awesome remix by Pablo Mateo; working those drum computers to impressive effect as always. Finally, Orson Wells stays on too; working the nightshift on his remix for Glyn's "Kevin Lomax" and giving it a lo-fi, neon lit makeover that will appeal to retroverts dancing well into the morning at Robert Johnson next Sunday morning.

Lena Willikens - "Neue Obakel" (6:28)
Review: For the ninth series of Dutch powerhouse Dekmantel's 10 year celebrations they have quite a compelling assortment of tracks, however diverse they are. On the A side we have the Salon Des Amateurs affilated Jan Schulte aka Bufiman serving up yet another oddball groove in the form of "Hymn To The Moonface" (Break mix) an almost new jack swing sounding jam crammed full of lush FM synth textures to boot. We should mention now that colleague and fellow SDA resident Lena Willikens appears later with the spooky and steely brooder "Neue Obakel". The '80s vibe continues courtesy of lo-fi house hero Palmbomen II (with a bit of help from Betonkust) on the neon-lit "Onrust Bij Tihange". On the flip is Irish hi-tech soul merchant Space Dimension Controller with our favourite of the bunch: he takes you deep into the cosmos with his emotive journey "Hindsight '92".

Charonne - "Panam Binks" (5:49)
Loop Exposure - "Two Steps" (5:29)
Review: Parisian duo Loop Exposure serves up some hi-tech funk that borrows from respectfully from the Motor City's techno/electro greats, on the fourth offering from their Rayka imprint. They team up with co-founders Alex T. & Noe B. aka Charonne here on Rakya Liquor Store Vol 1. Featuring some truly quirked-out alien jams, such as "Bout De Soufflot" and "State Violence" - the latter being a truly spooky stomper. On the flip, the duos go solo with the award going to Loop Exposure - with the intergalactic swing of "Two Steps" propelling you directly into the stratosphere. Highly recommended for like-minded retroverts such as Libertine, Les Points or Art Of Dark.

Review: Bjarnar Jonsson's OHM Series out of Copenhagen is into its second edition, rounding up some of the very best within the dub techno scene. We have four exemplary tracks of the quality to come from this series.Beginning with the dense and subdued atmospherics of Swiss producer Allesandro Crimi's 'Pollux', followed by Paris-based Benales who ventures deep into glacial terrain on the pummeling 'Vault'. Over on the flip, there's the glacial locomotive chug of Lakefkt's 'Oceana' and ending with the emotive, understated beauty of Outlaw's Matthew Oh on 'Kaltrina' - which is definitely the EP's finest moment.

Here we get a turbo-charged thumper from Dax J, the hard trance touch of Fractions with 'What Doesn't Kill Me', Tred's super speedy but also super deep 'Disobediant', and something more fruity and fun from the ever-incredible LSDXOXO. Le Mystere - "On The Beat" (5:18)
Agaric - "Cute Acid" (4:41)
Le Mystere - "On The Dub" (5:20)
Review: A couple of years back, Music Pour La Danse released a superb anthology of works by key Belgian new beat producer Rembert De Swet, better known as Ro Maron. This 12" is meant as a kind of partner to that release and features a trio of sought-after cuts from De Swet's La Mystere collaboration with Ferre Baellen (AKA Bhab), plus a bonus acid throw-down he released as Agaric (the fantastic "Cute Acid", whose wild TB-303 lines work in perfect harmony with the producer's delicate beats and ghostly synthesizer melodies). Interestingly, both "On The Beat" and "On The Dub" are far more Balearic in feel than many De Swet projects - think chunky, laidback breakbeats, picturesque melodies and sunny chord sequences - while "Opus 303" wraps lilting, almost melancholic chords and trippy acid lines around a similarly break-driven groove.

Review: Marcel Dettmann and boss Lucy become the latest pairing to get involved in bespoke Green Series from Bleep. Launched last year, the Green Series is an ongoing collaboration between online music store Bleep, design agency GiveUpArt and photographer Shaun Bloodworth, combining some of techno's biggest names with bespoke sleeve design and photography. Karenn, The Analogue Cops, Objekt, Cosmin TRG, Redshape and Steffi have featured on the three 12?s so far, and the next will see two equally lauded names take the mantle as the Ostgut Ton producer and Berghain resident Dettmann and Stroboscopic Artefacts boss Lucy contribute to the fourth release. Maintaining the straight up tone of the techno that preceded them, Dettmann submits a bounce heavy lesson in flawless techno in the shape of "Ride," while Lucy's contribution "Slaves' March" is 7+ minutes of pummelling rhythms and ever-building layers of tension and noise.

Denis Horvat - "Guilty Pleasure" (8:11)
Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry - "Close Your Eyes" (vs John Digweed & Nick Muir) (6:29)
Review: Alongside Bedrock XX: a new compilation (and mix) of exclusive tunes celebrating the label's 20th anniversary, boss John Digweed also presents the tenth edition of his Live In series here - where he ventured to Tokyo's legendary Contact club earlier in 2018. This all nighter is one they'll still be talking about to years for come. There will be a limited edition vinyl pressing of a dozen or so of the 64 tracks featured in his complete mix (across three volumes) featuring the likes of Jimmy Van M, Pascal FEOS, Robert Babicz and many more. Part 1 features French hi-tech soul merchant Madben: whose adrenalised rendition of Molecule's "Sila" will propel you directly into the stratosphere, melodic techno expert Denis Horvat serves up "Guilty Pleasure" where the rising Danish star presents more of his highly engineered sonic futurism and label bosses John Digweed and Nick Muir appear also: with a sleek and brooding rework of Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry's "Close Your Eyes".

Marc Romboy - "Asteroids" (10:06)
Rober Babicz - "Space Disco" (6:25)
Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry - "Close Your Eyes" (feat JJD) (7:48)
Review: Earlier in the year, Bedrock chief John Digweed headed to Tokyo for a set at Contact - one of the best underground clubs in the world. The basement club has a low ceiling, minimal lighting and an incredible sound system. The set (which featured a whopping 64 tracks) captures the legend's set from start to finish: from the deep/moody opening tracks, to the peak time bangers and everything in between. The tenth edition in his 'Live In' series is released on a limited vinyl run, with a select number of tracks on wax. Disc Two here features the hyper-melodic drift of Systematic's Marc Romboy on "Asteroids", the veteran artist formerly known as Rob Acid (Robert Babicz) with some powerful futurist soul on "Space Disco" and Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry with some tripped-out tunnel vision on "Close Your Eyes" (feat JJD).
