The Electro Guilde III
The Electro Guilde III (12" + insert + sticker)
Cat: ZCELEC 011LTD. Rel: 24 Oct 24
Acidulant - "Collateral Funk" (8:17)
Dima Gastroler - "We Will Survive" (5:38)
Pozek - "Ept" (6:05)
Johnfaustus - "Oberon" (6:06)
Review: Despite the dystopian and post-apocalyptic aesthetics, some electro music stuanchly refuses to let up on the fun. Acidulant, Dima Gastroler, Pozek and Johnfaustus' new collab V/A for Zodiak Kommune is one such firelighter: 'The Electro Guilde III' seems to say, "you'll have fun on the floor, or else us mecha-cops will come for you!" Acidulant's 'Collateral Funk' leads the charge with a persistent drive to "identify" some lost subject of misdemeanour and/or truancy, as rapidfire snare snaps and licking bass stabs scour the lower terrain for a heat-sought outline of the perp. Dima Gastroler's 'We Will Survive' depicts an unstoppable robotic invincibility, the track's searing robo-voices seeming to portray the last stragglers of a cyborg race battling their way through fire thanks to a bioengineered, adaptively fireproof armour. B-siders 'Ept' and 'Oberon' from producers Pozek and Johnfaustus let up on the voicework for two melodic, yet corruptingly authoritarian air-raiders.

Adhesive - "Tensegrity" (6:11)
The Bandit - "Festival" (5:49)
None - "The Ancient Musical Resistance" (5:05)
Promising Youngster - "Rare House" (5:45)
Structweird - "Lunar Loom" (4:49)
Pauk Youyu - "YUUUTSU" (4:18)
Review: Black Quasar doesn't much about when it comes to serving up searing electro. This new collection of just that comes on the Conexiones Electronicas 12" and features some exciting artists all in top form. Adhesive's 'Tensegrity' opens with some nice catchy funk and lashings of synth energy, The Bandit's 'Festival' has a darker mood and None's 'The Ancient Musical Resistance' is a more experimental sound with bleeps, squeaks and busted beats. Promising Youngster also impresses with 'Rare House' and after the more dreamy synth sequences of Structweird's 'Lunar Loom' comes Pauk Youyu's fractured and loopy 'YUUUTSU.'

Aline Umber - "Hypnotized" (feat Poggio) (5:09)
Juaan - "Talt" (5:51)
Ramez - "Devil Selectro" (5:39)
Plazeg - "German Physicist" (6:03)
Review: Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas' cheeky Positive Future label is back once again to bring some playful mischief to the contemporary electro-techno scene. This split release showcases some of the artists orbiting the label, kicking off in spooky style with Aline Umber's 'Hypnotized', which features a pitched down vocal from Poggio no less. Juaan's 'Talt' is equally steeped in B-movie freakery and tongue-in-cheek samples, while Ramez takes things deeper on bass-toting dirtbag joint 'Devil Selectro'. Plazeg finishes the record off with the scattershot bleep feast 'German Physicist', which has a whale of a time plying its own line in gleefully macabre club music.

Number 10 Part 1

Anderson - "Synchronize Our Moves" (6:29)
Velvet Velour - "Yesyesyes" (6:50)
Babu - "Luna"
Penelope - "Gathering"
Review: Tresydos has been doing a great job of shaping out a niche within the minimal-tech-house-trance scene, with the recent spate of vinyl releases solidly firming up the label's vibe. That vibe is crystallised perfectly on the first part of their Number 10 series, where Anderson opens proceedings up with the dreamy but playful trip of 'Synchronize Our Moves' before Velvet Velour takes things into cheeky mid 00s territory with the wriggling samples and catchy synth hooks of 'Yesyesyes'. Babu switches things up with a nudge towards Italo which brings a refreshing twist to the record before Penelope finishes the record off with a quintessential slice of crafty modern era-minimal.

Aurelien - "Les Yeux" (6:45)
MostWanted - "Juanas Addiction" (4:44)
Philipp Boss - "Lockdown Light" (6:57)
Car Crushers - "Fine" (feat Tabi) (6:10)
Review: The third release from this emerging Frankfurt label is a compact showcase of their boundary-pushing ethos, fusing a variety of styles into each track without ever feeling disjointed. Side-A kstarts off with Aurelien's 'Les Yeux', a hypnotic slice of 90s techno nostalgia. Trancey flourishes shimmer across a sturdy techno framework, giving it a futuristic yet warmly vintage feel i an addictive opener that immediately pulls you in. MostWanted's 'Juanas Addiction' follows with a raw, electro-clash inspired workout. Rough edges and a cleverly placed samples create a gritty, 80s-flavoured rush that feels spontaneous and alive. Side-B opens with Philipp Boss' 'Lockdown Light', a tight tech house roller that threads a wiry acid line through breezy house rhythms, maintaining a lightness despite its driving momentum. Closing things out, Car Crushers' 'Fine' (featuring Tabi) bursts with cheeky energy i a bouncy 90s club spirit laced with hints of Euro house fun. Tabi's vocals add just the right dash of playful charisma to seal the deal. This compilation is a strong statement of intent, proof that the label isn't afraid to stir genres together in creative, dancefloor-ready ways. Every track brings its own flavor, yet the cohesion across the release feels effortless and full of personality. An EP that is full of fun.

I Bastardi Aiaccini (E Bastiacci E Siciliani)

Human Aventura - "Concorde" (5:27)
Pasqua Pancrazi - "Danesi" (club instrumental) (5:00)
Blinkduus Dischetto - "Sein Cirque Les Poppies" (4:45)
Monica Venturella - "Page Not Found" (4:52)
Orso - "Bastardo" (6:00)
Review: Proper euphoric tune-tutelage from the Ajaccio label Digital Finesse, a good name for the label for sure. Run by Jimmy Batt, Digital Finesse's M.O. encompasses curt EPs as well as multitrack V/As, polished and readied for maximum credo. 'I Bastardi Aiaccini' is one of the latter, a six-track compendium fleshing the best one-offs from their personal roster, all while accelerating and hyper-modernising the classic electro and Italo sounds native to the Mediterranean. Beginning with the crisp, hyperactive, arpeggio-heavy metrosexual fascinator 'Electromotion', we then move into the comparatively gradated boxer 'Concorde' by Human Aventura, before rounding off the A on a note of bursting acid innovation, the instrumental version of Pasqua Pancrazi's 'Danesi'. The B opens on a note of sleaze-funk with the speedy 'Sein Cirque Les Poppies' from Blinkduus Dischetto, before going full-throttle dystopi-speed by way of a minimal but no less driven flat-beat cutup from Monica Venturella, 'Page Not Found'. Orso's 'Bastardo' flaunts the more experimental ends of the label's capacity, with 'Bastardo' hearing motifs of IT-hardcore get plunged into more-than-smokey scourings of Reese and sizzle.

Wicked Future EP
Cat: PF 007. Rel: 27 Feb 25
Chapter 24 (6:08)
Atomic Generation (6:11)
Wicked Soul (6:59)
The Night (7:37)
Review: Paris label Positive Future release positive music for positive people, but that doesn't hold them back a bit from concept-releasing V/As about future dystopias! "Once upon a time in a dystopian future", so the liners go, "humans are winning the battle against a zombie invasion" by fighting back, somehow, with their vinyl records (it's not stated explicitly, but we presume this means by playing them). "To defeat them forever and avoid a wicked future, DJs will have to join forces for a big party with every human still left standing." Of course, before the zombie plague, as far as sonic warfare went, military-grade sound design had been sanctioned for government use only, and the recording industries had precious little involvement. That all changes with producers Aline Brooklyn, Krol, Briki, Samuel Jabba and P.O., each of whom have reproduced and mass marketed their very own subsonic, antiviral weapon, of which there are four classes: A1, A2, B1 and B2. We choose B2, 'The Night', an instrument whose unsettling, garbled vocals and spine-tingling melodies make for, in our view, the best sonic zombie-away spray.

Review: Last year, Fundamental Records decided to celebrate their 10th anniversary with an "808 Box" - a snapshot of the electro scene over the last decade comprising 10 EPs in a frosted plexiglass box. This year they've decided release all of the 12" singles separately in limited numbers. This is the fourth instalment and contains some superb electro. For proof, check the bubbly and melodious brilliance of Brice Kelly's 'We Always Shine', the undersea Drexciyan squelch of Vema Diodes' hard-hitting 'Lights', the shimmering rush of N-Ter's 'Who Is Who' - think Egyptian Lover in deep space - and the crunchy, funk-fuelled, acid-fired excitement of Heimelectronik's EP-closing 'Space & Time'. In a word: essential!

Review: Bill Converse and Patricia land on Acid Test with more of their dynamic beat machine workouts in the form of this '380/750' EP which merges their distinct styles into an introspective, dancefloor-driven four-track workout. Recorded live at Ravitz's Brooklyn studio in just two days, the EP features raw, unedited performances that show off the duo's intuitive rhythm-making skills while drawing on Converse's 90s Michigan rave roots and Ravitz's Chicago upbringing. The immersive, bubbly, rubbery sounds are perfect blends of body music and heady synth work and cannot fail to take you deep.

Planetary Secrets - "Establishment" (4:26)
KAWA KAWA - "Mon Frere" (3:43)
Otis Key - "Copy Natural Processes At The Nanoscale" (4:55)
Review: NOAR Records goes big for its debut release by enlisting several fresh-thinking producers to contribute one track each to this limited edition VA. It is a brilliantly mixed bag, with Friedrich Ernst's 'Clone Scratch' bringing unsettling electro madness to start and The Isolator's 'Locknr01' exploring more stripped-back and sparse sounds that are built on neck-snapping breaks. Anachronism's 'Lost Control By Distance' is the sort of turbulent sonic climax you get in during the boss battle moments of a sci-fi movie, and a trio of B-side cuts keep up the originality with Planetary Secrets' 'Establishment' a particular highlight.

Review: Felix Da Housecat returns to his squashy electro roots with 'Test Press'. A megaphoned monologue by the artist and vocalist NEZ straddles this serious slice of electro-house weight, urging the listener to give up the exclusive goods or work to procure them: "test. press. please." Then there's 'Simulator', laying down a humorously broken meditation on video-game playing and joystick flicking in the name of life, eking out the tricky contours of such a lifestyle with hyper-limited, mega-flattened snares and clacks. Finally, the 'Pressapella' appears as the remixable base with which you, too, might make your own version.

Sestrica - "Ssense" (5:51)
Proxyan & Lewski - "Cereology" (4:07)
Review: The Flesh or Die label launches with a stark statement of intent from five electro innovators operating right at the sharp end. Flotation Aid takes charge to start off with and offers a sound that is both busy and densely packed with sound and texture, but also serene and calming thanks to the background synth glow. Vlaysin's 'Open Your Mind' is something of a nightmarish sound which will have you on edge throughout and Sestrica then brings some more classic electro tropes to 'Ssense' with its snappy drums and celestial melodies. Proxyan & Lewski's 'Cereology' shuts down with some wonky wonderfulness.

I Prefer It My Way (9:29)
Review: Harrison BDP is in playful form on his latest release, which sees the long-serving deep house producer don a new alias: Parrish Bond, a 'tache-sporting secret agent turned crate digger whose Hollywood-worthy missions leave him "no time to dig". Silly set-up aside, the music on show is top-drawer, particularly opener 'Always Take The Stairs', a kind of tribute to Guerilla-era British progressive house piled high with short, tight acid lines, deep organ bass, manipulated choral vocal samples. chunky beats and waves of electronic melodies. He reaches for the TB-303 once more on the more hypnotic and ghostly 'FickleB', before going all exotic, twisted and hazy on the undulating bass, bubbly acid motifs and interlocking melodies of 'I Prefer It May Way'. The name's Bond, Parrish Bond and he's licensed to thrill!

Heavy Mental kicks off with 'Dabro', a colourful and loopy house jaunt for sunny days. Twowi's 'Metaverse' takes off to the cosmos on lithe electro rhythms with ice-cold beats and widescreen pads. Review: Electrik Pulse is the first release from French label Duarte and it features a lineup of talented French producers who come from various local underground scenes in Paris, Marseille and Corsica. On the A-side, Human Aventura, making his second vinyl appearance, delivers the raw, jacked house of 'Local Warming' while Corsican producer P.O brings some wiry, twitchy tech house. On the B-side, Victor Benjamin and Pagenty debut and add a fresh and compelling edge to the compilation as they blend new and classic sounds with captivating melodies and rhythms. Review: Cheese Tricks Vol 1: Honey & Cheese Combo EP on Secret Feta is a diverse collection that brings together four distinct tracks, each offering something unique for fans of old skool techno styles and sounds. Side-1 begins with Multivers's 'Mess Around,' a track that channels the iconic sound of Orbital with its chimes and techno-driven, otherworldly atmosphere. It's a journey into the unknown, perfect for setting a mysterious tone. Following that, Syntelman's '3h Kh' blends techno with early Psy-trance influences, creating a hypnotic experience that pulls from the roots of both genres. Side-2 kicks off with Peshka's 'Your Behind,' a big, melodic track designed for dancefloor destruction. Its ravey breakbeat elements give it a nostalgic yet fresh feel, making it a surefire crowd-pleaser. Untitled (feat Patrik Sjeren)
3c 273
Review: FXHE maintain their monthly heat emission for 2012, with label boss Omar S displaying all aspects of his production prowess (as well as skill for a humorous track titles) across four productions - one of which features the button bashing assistance of one Patrik Sjeren. There's something icily brilliant about the restrained "Income Tax Refund Dance" melding a dark piano riff with snapping 808 kicks and rippling lo fi rhythms which only further justifies the title of Omar S's killer 2011 LP. It's complemented by the far rowdier box jam "The White Castle Song" which jackhammers a simple yet highly flammable key riff over low rent percussion for FXHE's most potent ode to the perfect warehouse moment since the all conquering "Here's Your Trance..." Given the lack of additional info, we presume the Patrik Sjeren that produces the B Side "Untitled" track is the same Patrik Sjeren that released in the mid 90s under a multiplicity of aliases, and his contribution is every bit as incendiary as the track preceding it, whilst "3c 273" sees Omar S slip into pensive utopian electro mode with aplomb.

Pancratio never quite managed to get them into his setup until he decided in 2020 to use the machines on their own. The results of his jams on a drum machine, analog modelling synthesizer, sampler and a music workstation are presented here and make for perfectly punchy and timeless techno cuts with bumping beats and wired electronics. Review: For the serious techno heads, Mike Parker is king. The Buffalo, NYC artist has an exacting style which stays true to his trajectory without fail - precision-engineered techno with a cyclical, hypnotic nature. The tempo can vary and the devil is in the details - just listen to his latest offering on Spazio Disponibile for all the proof you need. 'At Tracker' is a pumped-up affair with whirring helicopter blades overhead that will sink into your skull without even drawing blood, while 'Zero M3' slows things down for a creeping piece of psychotropic acid from the netherworld. There's bruising techno for the big room on 'Em Pattern' and broken beat monophonic freakiness aplenty on 'Trilling Sound', but at all times Parker lets the machines do the talking and simply guides them to sublime frequencies.

Review: Partisano's BSLTD 03 on BinarySound France delivers four inspiring techno renditions infused with the distinct touch of vocoders for added vibe while others have a fantastic 90s vibe, making it a standout in the minimal and tech house scene. Side-1 kicks off with 'Fresh Cool Blow,' a mid-tempo tech house jam that perfectly blends electro sounds into an ideally paced dancefloor winner. The track's balance of tempo and groove makes it an immediate favorite. Following this, 'Reality' takes the energy up a notch with an uptempo, 90s-inspired beat that brings a nostalgic yet fresh feel to the mix. Side-2 begins with 'Sun Ray,' featuring a beautiful melody reminiscent of the best melodic trance, yet at a more welcoming BPM. The track's fresh acid line adds depth and complexity, making it a memorable piece. The EP closes with 'No More Dying,' a track with progressive house sounds that harken back to 1993, offering a perfect blend of past and present influences. BSLTD 03 is a well-crafted EP that successfully merges classic influences with modern techno elements drenched in old skool formulas.

It's by none other than Marco Passrani, the veteran producer who has presented amazing material over the years as Pigna People, Analog Fingerprints and of course Tiger & Woods. This one's called Dead & Alive and features some raw, old school inspired jams: from the early Chicago acid jack of A side cuts 'Water Pressure' or 'Reckless', to some gnarly electro cuts on the B side such as 'One O One' or the particularly off-kilter shenanigans of 'Soul Stealer' which pushes the outer limits towards IDM.

Thromboembambino (Legowelt Lost In A Valley remix) (5:51)
Review: Under the PDQB alias, Sascha Dornhofer has deliberately crafted an enigmatic persona - a move that has allowed him to explore different underground electronic styles while building an audience of curious followers. On his latest EP, he continues this trend, first serving up an analogue-rich, mind-mangling slab of '80s horror soundtrack-infused 'Giallo' disco rich in loose-sounding machine drums, throbbing sequenced bass and spiralling melodies ('Cychochloride'), before opting for a weirder, darker and more angular proto-techno sound on the even more inspired 'Thromboembambino'. Legowelt handles remix duties in his usual confident and eccentric manner. 'Cychochloride' is re-imagined as a cheery and decidedly intergalactic electro workout, while 'Thromboembambinio' becomes a raw, acid-speckled shuffle through sprightly synth sounds and urgent post-electro beats.

Review: Germany's RFR Records welcomes some high-grade Vienna impact from Peletronic here with his tough blend of electro and abstract house hitting the spot across three new cuts. 'Riddim & Bassline' opens up with fizzing synths a percolating percussion over snappy kicks and hits that never sit still, and nor will you. 'Sry I'm Dazed AF' has a cyborg funk feel with rugged bass and crispy broken beat drum programming. 'True Brew' is a coarse bit of house music for dances in derelict factories - the far-sighted synths bring some lovely Detroit soul. DMX Krew remixes with his usual golden touch to close.

Review: 'Red Line' is a collection of four archival tracks by Periferico, a lesser-known alias of Italian producer Livio Foglio, noted for his activity in the 90s electronic music scene. Lovingly rescued from DAT and now released by Undersound, this is organically lo-fi acid trance to a T, blending charmingly undermixed elements with chimey progressions and tittilating builds. The sampled vocal countdowns are just the icing on the cake.

Prang (feat Huerco S)

Review: Perko is one of those newer-school experimental artists whose fingers straddle many pies, but who nevertheless refuses to allow this inner tendency towards versatility to hold him back. The FELT label owner has welcomed artists as far-flung as Civilistjavel! to Moxie into his inner circle; and the fruits of this open-mindedness are more than translated into his latest EP for Glaswegian dance legends Numbers. 'Prang' errs on the side of playfulness, giving some hot seconds of pure danceable flavour. Huerco S lends his usually-texturally-rich addprod to the nominal A-sider, a rather impressive future-garage-acid cut that recalls some of Objekt's earlier stuff, while regular collaborator and mournful vocalist-producer Cucina Povera crops up on the ambient dub plunger-into-the-sound that is 'Sisu'.

Review: Dark Entries know their stuff when it comes to '80s synth pop reissues, and this latest reissue of Carlos Peron's Dirty Songs single is a sign of just how deep into the crates these guys get. Originally out over thirty years ago, these instrumentals are still total killers and will go down a storm in most DJ sets which venture out of the 4/4 formula. "Nothing Is True; Everything Is Permitted" and "Breakin' Indistortion" are particularly fresh and must have truly cut the edge back then: metallic drum machine beats and sparse melodies ring away into the cavernous ambience created by Peron. Wonderful and highly recommended.

Review: Three and a half years have passed since Jasen Loveland and Patrick Russell debuted their Pervocet project on Interdimensional Transmissions' ongoing Acid Series. This belated follow-up promises more "psychedelic music used to induce moderate to severe psychosis" (as their brief bio puts it). They set their stall out with 'Neighbor', a sparse and punchy acid-electro workout where raw, razor-sharp TB-303 motifs and vocoder vocal snippets catch the ear, before opting for a more relaxed - but no less psychedelic - acid-electro flex on the faintly foreboding 'Rawlo'. Loveland and Russell flip the script on 'L0V3 S1R3N', peppering a bouncy acid house-goes-techno beat with sweat-soaked percussion filled and hard-wired acid lines, while 'Phasy Suzan' is a deep, effects-laden, mind-mangling slab of expertly hallucinatory, mid-tempo excellence.

Review: Having established notoriety for his live hardware-based sets, Ben Pest's latest electro cut, 'Robotic Sales', out on Brighton-based label, Orson, sees the incredible energy of his live sets made flesh - or vinyl, at least. Opening track, 'Robotic Sales' (Acid Redux) kicks the EP off to a flying start. The perfect balance of blistering acid pads and powerful electro percussion, the roboticised vocal sample, paired with 80s-esque synths gives this an undoubtedly classic feel. By contrast, the relatively pared back 'Wobbly Eggs' explores a clever inversion of the typical dance track structure, with key melodic components emerging in the breakdown and disappearing out of view when the main body of the track returns. 'Beefcase', the most acid-heavy track on the release, is a guaranteed floor-filler while the final track, 'Charizard Dream', is perfect for those moments of peak-time, out-of-your-body elation. A seriously strong EP from Ben Pest.

As '8 Octavial' demonstrates, there are no prisoners being taken here as Pest gleefully piles on thick layers of cybernetic sound juggled with a masterful touch. It's absolutely rolling and rave ready, but there's also more than enough detail pinging around these mixes to keep a headphone raver happy. Don't overlook the edgy pings and plongs of 'VCS Wig' or the playful synthetic soul touches of 'Strict Saws', which might well be the best joint on the whole record.

Review: Ben Pest's dynamic, mangled approach to electro has kept him firmly in the underground where all the best stuff happens, and he's in no mood to soften his approach on this latest missive for Co Accused. 'Come To The Yard' has a twitchy, tense quality thanks to the stuttering layers of noise flickering around the gated push and pull of the drums, while 'Expecting Computers' takes a slamming approach splashed with corrosive acid. 'Erase Me' throws down some slime-caked four-to-the-floor pressure to lay waste to any civilised dancefloor, and 'Think Again' pushes 303s into unholy territory backed up by Think breaks and a dirty house pulse which makes for dancefloor dynamite, in no uncertain terms.

Review: Extramusical hugeness from Texas's best experimental electro outing, Science Cult. A name like 'Commuting Observables', when lent to a V/A mini-album, is abstract enough to immerse us in the implied concept; it conjures a mental image of a glaucous laboratory of sorts, in which a cadre of sonic mad scientists toil tirelessly to yield the batch of effervescent sense-smushers you hear here. Be warned, this isn't your bog-standard, one-or-two-part acid-analog jam EP; no, every track and alias here plays out like a different iteration of some carefully spliced yet still egregious biogenetic experiment; monster faunamechs bursting free from their respective vitreal nutri-vats, and embarking on respective misanthropic rampages, all leaving trails of mimetic polyalloy gunge behind them. Were we to choose one of said bio-beasts as our fighter, it'd have to be Syrte's 'I'm A T-Shirt', shortly run up by a tie between Fleck Esc' 'Unrefined Intentions' and Ben Pest's 'From AU'. But we have to say, none of this music is standard fare techno: all of it is really quite wild.

Pflum's album is a journey through the dark and enigmatic underbelly of electronic music. He skillfully blends elements of techno, electro, and acid to create a unique and immersive experience. Many a year spent raving and partystarting informed the basis of this turbulent affair in acid and psych-prog house, which consists in the murmurous 'Obvitrip' and the interstatic 'Intersafe' on the A1, tracks which complement each other's twin fluencies in both the downtrodden and the upbeat. 'Kres' completes the trifecta with a third round in the ring of squelchy, functional festi-house, while Levat's version of 'Thritrakk' casts any predilection or expectation aside with a cascadingly tense electro recto on the B2.

Review: UK-based Jules von Daniken is Phase O'Matic and he takes charge of the third outing from Reheat with his typically assured hand. 'Access Denies (K9 mix)' is warped cyborg tech with gremlins in machines, gurgling acid and flat, firm drums making for a marching beat. 'Plastic Memory' has a more electro-feel to it with some snappy kick and hits retro 80s synth nostalgia. Formerly released on the Fragments label at the turn of the millennium, these tracks are arguably the best in his catalogue to portray that distinct Piroman formula: hard-crushed, dry snares; lots of headroom, evoking a mechanised mood; nods to cut-up and medley subcultures endemic to New York breakbeat; hypnotic, cute arpeggiations. With the little brown job of a bird held firmly in mind - its avian grace matched well by the light, but also hot-winged determination of the title track - we find ourselves compelled to dance with both light and hot footing in equal measure. Following that up, there's 'Edge Of A Strange Euphoria', with its phat FMs and murky narration proving that some if not most states of ecstasy are mixed bags, provided they do the proper job of challenging our inner status quos. Finally 'Zuzu' ends things on a franker note of gaslamp-lit acid, with Dan Andrei also lending a hand to produce a neat 4/4 version.
