Review: B12's 1993 debut album, Electro-Soma, has long been regarded as one of intelligent dance music's "must-have releases". Offering a decidedly intergalactic blend of otherworldly techno, ambient and deep space electronica, it remains a brilliant piece of work. Here, Warp Records give it the reissue treatment, packaging the peerless original album with a second disc of early B12 rarities and hard-to-find cuts recorded during the same period. There's naturally plenty to admire on this bonus disc, from the shimmering electro bustle of "Transient Pathways" and Motor City futurism of "Debris", to the intoxicating ambient brilliance of "Go With The Hiss". That this material is every bit as good as the tracks included on Electro-Soma is testament to the (then) duo's rarely matched brilliance.

Review: Drexciya released a lot of seminal work during their tenure, but Neptune's Lair was when James Stinson and Gerald Donald built upon the conceptual depth of their project across an album format for the first time. Released in 1999 on Tresor, the album still sounds leagues ahead of the pack if you think in terms of electro, but to be honest that simple genre tag feels a little reductive at this point. Drexciya were consummate world-builders and they proved this beautifully across achingly beautiful tracks like 'Andreaen Sand Dunes' and 'Polymono Plexusgel', while they still brought serious amounts of funk to 'Habitat of Negative', 'Surface Terrestrial Colonization' and 'Oxyplasmic Gyration Beam'. A perfect album given a proper 'special edition' reissue treatment on CD.

Review: A poignant and triumphant new chapter for the legendary Brum techno icons, hot on the heels of the reissue of their seminal 2010 album Feed Forward and a year of live shows and archival releases. Its creation is rooted in the tragic passing of Juan Mendez, aka Silent Servant, in early 2024. A founding member and visual artist for the group, Mendez's influence resonates throughout the record, with the title End Beginnings serving as a tribute to his enduring legacy. Review: With 'breaking' making its debut in the 2024 Paris Olympics, it seems an apt time to go back to where it all began and showcase some of the music that first made break-dancers move in the early years of hip-hop culture. Soul Jazz Records clearly agrees, hence this two-disc retrospective of early 'breaker' favourites curated by Arthur Baker - a man who's productions and remixes soundtracked many dancefloor battles in the early 80s. It's a suitably strong selection all told, with dusty funk, soul and funk-rock favourites (Johnny Bristol, James Brown, The Jimmy Castor Bunch, Spanky Wilson) being joined by disco-funk jams (Herman Kelly and Life), extra-percussive workouts (Manu Dibango, Mongo Santamaria, Candido) and a smattering of key Baker productions (Afrika Bambaata and Soul Sonic Force's 'Planet Rock' and his own infectious 'Breakers Revenge').

Review: Lowfish originally released his 'Burn The Lights Out' LP in 2007 on the US label Satamile but we have found some copies of it in the warehouse. Synth-pop meets breakbeats in an electrifying fusion of emotive melodies and bass-heavy beats across all four sides of the long player with ten then-new tracks and two classics from his Sat.31 EP. They all show that his music, complex yet accessible, evokes images of Blade Runner, Wave Noir, or William Gibson. It is post-modern in approach as it skilfully blends past and present styles to create a sound uniquely his own, seamlessly bridging the gap between eras while pushing the boundaries in his own way.

Review: To mark the album's 20th birthday, Drexciya's most melodious and perfectly formed full-length has been remastered and reissued. 'Harnessed The Storm' has consistently been cited as one of 'the greatest IDM albums of all time' since its release, and we'd have to agree with that assessment - even if you could argue it's really an electro album. Deep, atmospheric and melodious, it's arguably the perfect distillation of the pair's distinctive sound, style and ethos. Certainly, it contains a swathe of absolute gems, including the robust and otherworldly club electro of 'The Plankton Organization', 'Dr Blowfin's Black Storm Stabilising Spheres', the heart-aching musical melancholy of 'Birth of a New Life' (recorded shortly before Drexciya member James Stinson surprisingly passed away) and the gorgeous 'Digital Tsunami'.

Review: 'The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J Rosinthrope' is an obscure rarity by a short-lived alias of Drexciya member James Stinson, Shifted Phases, which is now getting the full, refocused reissue treatment by German clubbing giant Tresor. Having remained out of print since its initially tiny release for over two decades, this bubbly yet grim electro album reflects an epistolary concept expressed musically rather than in written form. Rupert J. Rosinthrope is a mysterious character, but these cosmic memoirs hopefully shed at least some light on "his" misunderstood memory.

Review: Everyone's favourite robotic pioneers have embraced the art of the remix plenty over their lengthy career. As well as taking fresh approaches to their own material, they've invited others to mess with the legacy of one of the most important electronic acts of all time. It's no mean feat to remix a Kraftwerk track, but as such the roll call on this compilation is reliably heavyweight. As well as their own 'Kling Klang' remixes of tracks like 'Robotnik' and 'Expo 2000', you can find legends like DJ Rolando, Orbital, Francois K and Hot Chip tackling classic and some lesser known tracks across three slabs of wax.

Review: Over the last few years, Interstellar Funk (real name Olf van Elden) has become one of the Netherlands most enthusiastic collectors of what he calls "wave music" - that hard-to-define, synthesiser-heavy style that first emerged at the turn-of-the-80s and has been evolving ever since. Artificial Dancers, his first compilation, continues this trend by gathering together personal favourites and rarities spanning 40 years of wave music. Review: Global Underground is a bastion of compilation cool and it has been for decades. The series has seen plenty of top tier DJ stars take charge and soundtrack cities all over the world from Budapest to Los Angeles via Miami. It has also saved up a fine line in late night after-hours soundtracks over the years and that sub-series, Global Underground: Afterhours , now hits volume number ten with anther tasteful collection of tunes on CD. The vibes are deep and introspective as you would expect, with appearances from such seasoned greats as John Tejada, DJ Hell and Seth Troxler, and needless to say, is always high on quality.

Review: You'd think there weren't that many stones left uncovered in the quest to reissue all Drexciya-related works, but here's a little nugget from 2013 which may have passed many by. NRSB-11 is a collaborative project from Gerald Donald, Sherard 'DJ Stingray' Ingram and Penelope Martin which resulted in one EP and one album. Disciples have opted to reissue Commodified, and with good reason. This is advanced electro of the highest calibre, absolutely wrought from the same lineage as Donald and Ingram's myriad accomplished endeavours but with a distinct flavour which speaks to Martin's input.

Review: There's always been something a little loved-up about the scattergun, genre-bending productions of New York's Drew Lustman, AKA Falty DL. Yet previously, his desire to fuse cutting-edge rhythms with vintage rave references sometimes got in the way. Hardcourage, his first full-length for independent behemoths Ninja Tune, takes a more 'softly-softly' approach. Whereas his last full-length, 2011's You Stand Uncertain, was a kaleidoscopic invitation to start the dance, Hardcourage gently beckons you towards a loving embrace. While there are still plenty of skittish rhythms present, they're wrapped up in a warm orange glow - all serotonin-soaked chords, cascading melodies, bluesy vocal samples and near-Balearic compositions. In many ways it's a startling about-turn, but one that comes heartily recommended.

The high energy highlights come thick and fast with the likes of 'Big Prism' riding on juke beats, 'Milf Milo' bringing some lithe synth chords and raw claps and 'I Swear It's A Bop' (feat KAYY & ALLGIRLSALLOWED) featuring broken drum patterns, glistening synth stabs and r&b vocals full of soul.

Review: The creative partnership between Tiga & Hudson Mohawke expresses a mutual love of "hardcore romance," a liminal state where the bounds between euphoria, melancholy and the raw power of friendship disintegrate completely. Review: Mikko Mattlar, a walking encyclopaedia of Finnish electronic music, has been responsible for some killer compilations over the years, but 'Black Hole', his latest collection, may be the best yet. It focuses on exceedingly obscure 'culth synth disco music' produced in his home country between 1979 and '91 - mostly in the early-to-mid-80s - with every track either being an unreleased oddity of a genuinely uber-rare private press record. It's both eye-opening and extremely entertaining, with the included tracks doffing a cap to heavy disco-funk, underground gospel disco, bedroom-made late '80s synth-disco and quirky Scandinavian electrofunk.

Review: As a former member of Kraftwerk, Wolfgang Flur is never short of offers to collaborate. On Time, his first solo album for three years, he's once again taken up many of these offers. So alongside regular collaborators Peter Duggal, U96 and Miriam Suarez, you'll also find contributions from New Order bassist Peter Hook, Thomas Bangalter (aka Vangarde, taking his disco-making father's moniker surname here) Detroit electro and techno pioneer Juan Atkins (who appears on opener 'Posh'), and long-serving techno producers Anthony Rother and Fabrice Lig. As a result, Time is rooted in sharp electro, synth-pop and revivalist new wave, but also offers nods to techno, electroclash, acid house and proto-trance, with Suarez and Flur take it in turns to add their own atmospheric vocals. If you enjoyed Flur's previous album, Magazine, you'll lap this one up - it's an even stronger proposition.

Review: A warm welcome back to long-serving French duo Scratch Massive, a DJ/production twosome who have been active locally and internationally since 1994. Nox Anima is, somewhat remarkably, the duo's first studio album since 2018. Rooted in the stylish, atmospheric and occasionally moody new wave sound they've been developing for decades, the album frequently pairs dark and clandestine analogue and modular synth sounds - throbbing, arpeggio-style sequences and ghostly chords - with metronomic or sparse beats, moments of melodic positivity, spacey electronics and whispered or sung female lead vocals. It's a musical blend that pays dividends far more often than not, making Nox Anima a must-check for fans of leftfield synth pop and chilly coldwave sounds.

Review: For their latest exploration of the darker and rougher end of the electro spectrum, Dutch imprint Freedom Club has turned to pitch-black urban electronics explorer RTRA, a Russian artist whose tracks tend towards the paranoid, industrial-tinged and claustrophobic. He's certainly delivered on Liberation, a five-track EP appearing on CD in highly limited numbers. He sets the tone with 'Transition', which sounds like Nitzer Ebb and early 80s Cabaret Voltaire making angular electro, before doffing a cap to DAF on the dark, noisy and apocalyptic 'Liberation'. Elsewhere, modular and analogue sounds power the mutant electro of 'Rage' and 'When Soft Voices Die', while 'Illusion' is creepy, intoxicating and unsettling in equal measure.
