Review: Couple Looking is a brand new project that brings together the Funnuvojere label head Massimiliano Pagliara with his Berlin-based mate and fellow DJ Chris Cruse, who is known as the force behind the LA queer party Spotlight as well as being involved with the legendary Club Toilet in Detroit. They have plenty of studio skills between them as this EP shows with its mix of raw lines and silky synth-scapes. 'For The Remote' is caustic and acidic house music from the old school, 'For A Snack' then builds the pressure with a taught bassline and twinking keys over more jacked-up drums. 'For K' is an uplifting house sound and 'For You' is balmy and dreamy chug-house.

Review: Notorious internet motormouth Thomas Cox dropped the first EP on his own new QED label back in 2020, but only now is the vinyl arriving with us. It was worth the wait, however, because as much as it would be fun to find the sort of faults in his music that he does in everyone else's, these are three raw as you like tracks that go direct to the soul. Detroit influences of course loom large throughout, with each cut layering up dirt and grime, dusty drums and rusty synths to hypnotic effect. The standout might be the unresolved loops and cosmic-gaze of 'Starry Ave,' but any of these will make an impact on the right dance floor.

Review: Proud internet motormouth and Pittsburgh mainstay Thomas Cox finally returns with a second release on his QED Recordings label. The tracks were made in February and were road-tested over DEMF weekend. Each one, he says, was made on hardware in one take, so they have a naturally rugged edge and dynamic feel that makes them all the more real. Review: Last year's 'Will We Ever Dance Again' 12" was a big one for Coyote who now follow it up and impress once more. First up they do so on 'Baka Re-Rub' by paying their respects to the iconic Jon da Silva remix of The FADS track. It's steamy, tropical, full of loose drum energy and jangling synths that lightened up any club. On the flip you find 'No Entry' which is a big house anthem plenty of classic tops, uplifting arpeggios and pianos, and dramatic strings next to big acid lines. It's an all out, hands in the air gem that brings the good times.

Review: A limited edition, green vinyl edition follows in the Midas footsteps of Chicago DJ and producer Cratebug, whose recent Bandcamp movements have seen a fresh frothing-forth of free digital downloads. Two of said most recent USB-rhythm-stick fillers are heard selected for choice molten PVC compressing here. 'BOSTICH PT1' trails aureate rushes of voice and industrious percussion behind it, with both title and soundscape alluding to the stapler-heavy delights of micro-label mail order business operations. Meanwhile, 'Optimo', on the B, reissues an earlier edit by the Chicago fortunate of fellow techno titans Optimo's 'Liquid Liquid', empurpling the mix with crowded, busty percs and a manic hustler's rap on top.

Review: The Crates Motel crew make a head turning debut here with this inaugural release featuring some red hot classic all reworked with great care and plenty of dancefloor aplomb. Up first is 'Eye No You', a belting vocal cut with big disco energy that will have the floor in raptures. Things get slower and funkier on 'Beyond Far' with its loose and live drums and withering chords under a familiar riff. On the B-side the temp gets turned up again with 'More Eye', a Philly disco cut complete with lavish strings and raw male vocals full of heart wrenching soul. Last of all is 'Rock The Dance', a disco version of an epic Clash cut that is pure fun.

Review: It's always a good day when the Blahh label rises up from the streets to drop a new bit of true school garage. This is a various artists release which brings together core label members Beforethebeatsbreak, Ronaldo and Crazy Bank, who have all served up their own solo EPs before now. It's the latter who kicks off with the tightly coiled bump n grind of 'So Good' before Ronaldo gets your feet moving on 'Get My 319', another dry, clipped garage shuffler with pent up energy to spare. There are good time piano-led vibes to Beforethebeatsbreak's B1 then 'Why You Wanna' from Crazy Bank is defined by its pitched up vocal sound.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Drop Music marks a marvellous quarter of a century of releases with this new slab of vinyl featuring some gems from disco funksters Crazy P and the house mainstays Inland Knights. Crazy P go first with 'Disc Odyssey' which is perfectly indicative of their much beloved sound with its low slung kicks and funky bassline. Inland Knights then offer a trio of in demand & unreleased tracks. 'Overnight' is a bumming deep house joint, 'Walk On' has an icy late night vibe and balmy pads and 'Do It Again is a more playful closer, with some killer b-line action. All four, needless to say, are timeless gems, and the fact the last two are appearing on vinyl first the first time makes it an even more desirable cop.

Review: The mysterious Creature is back with the seventh release on the blazing hot self-titled label. We have a clue who is behind this label but we aren't 100% sure who is making these impressive slabs of house music. For this edition, 'Singing' cleverly picks out a few lines from Moloko's 'Sing It Back' and turns it into dancefloor devastation. On the second side is the exceptionally dirty and sleezy grinder called 'Freaking'. Both, when used properly, should wreak havoc on the floor and make serious waves in the minimal techno world.

Attracting a panoply of remixers for use in their own DJ sets, Mondo Groove now commit four of the choicest of said redoings to a vinyl press, enlisting such first magnitude stars as Benny Benassi and DJ Ralf. Progressing through fine layers of burbling synth and cooing sentiment, we're most taken, however, by Samuele Sartini's closer, which the roar of crowds into descending synth beneficences, causing all heaven to break loose.

Review: Veneno is the most beloved transgender TV star in Spain and now she arrives on the equally revered Dark Entries label as part of Madrid Pride on June 30th. Cristina Ortiz was a sex worker when she was discovered by the TV program "Este Noche Cruzamos el Mississippi." She became a regular on it with a great sense of wit and a unique way of relaying stories about her work on the streets. Her career in music started in 1996 and has seen her serve up big Eurobeat tunes like 'Veneno Pa Tu Piel' and house cuts such as 'El Rap De La Veneno'. Danny Cruz kicks off with 'Shoulda Been You' which rides on smooth grooves and has gentle synth waves breaking over the beats as heartfelt vocal sounds rise out of the mix. Mark Funk's 'True Lies' brings a classic 90s vocal sample to a non-stop soul beat and the B-side has got Dirty Disco Stars going big and funky and glorious on 'Look Up' then Mirko & Meex Re-touch 'Young Hearts' .

Review: Ecuadorian maestro Nicolas Cruz is back on Rhythm Seciton to follow up his last EP Subtropique which proved a big hit. "I'm always trying to re-interpret this Afro-Caribbean feeling, and trying to figure out how I could humanize this through the machines," he says of his approach and it certain is the case here. He mixes up some worlds rhythms with twitchy techno drums and electronic synths to make for something totally new on all of the tracks. The heavy, skipping kicks of 'Residual Heat' is a real favourite while 'Self Oscillation' is a catering percussive jam to pack the floor. Another great outing.

Review: The SEVEN7 late makes its bow here with the sort of house jam that is going to win it plenty of fans from the off. The original comes from Cryme but is offered up here as a series of remixes. The first lady of the Berlin house scene Cinthie opens up with her signature sense of cool grooves and soulful pads, then the Obscure Shape remix ups the ante with more slamming drums and techno forcefulness. There is a distinctive old school feel to Lydia Eisenblatter's remix as she brings raw breakbeats and super sized hi-hats. Volpe brings some dubby low ends to close.

Review: The Tribut label is dedicated to the "legend", of whom there are many, and we must say that Tribut themselves are at first deliberately obscure about who they're referring to. It's only further listens that reveal their references: the first edition in their eponymous series hears four hazy minimal recollections of pop, disco and rock classics laid to half-forgotten wax. As if to suggest that the stars of yore have been obscured in a miasma of danceable drives and industrial process, producer Marcelo Cura lays down two tributes on the A, 'Bowie's Dance Tribute' for David Bowie and 'Senor Break'; he then teams up with Ja Kub for two more labile knockers/movers, 'Prince's Future Tribute' for Prince and 'Nina's Blackbird Tribute' for Nina Simone.

It's a collaborative affair from James Curd & Jonasclean who race out of the blocks with the fat and heavy stomper 'Mullen It Over' which has snaking leads and rushy-feels. Review: Having graced the likes of Razor N Tape, Classic and Shall Not Fade, in recent years Cody Currie has bedded himself in deep on Toy Tonics - just check the London-based producer's Lucas LP from last year if you need further proof. The label have taken a peep back at that album to serve up this feel-good remix package with some serious talent on re-fix duties. First up Dan Shake serves up a tough-bumpin' version of Cash before Sam Ruffillo and Kapote have fun amping up the funky elements of the track. Review: John Wilcox has been slowly disseminating crusty hardware jams for some six years now, in which time he's appeared as Cyclonix on Horn Wax, and now he nips over to Tusk Wax for more robo-charged antics in the curious corner of grubby, electro tinged house music the label orbits. "Telemachus" is a dreamy opening number that keeps the spook level up to maximum and the reverb voluminous throughout. "Synth Run" has a bit more bite, but not at the expense of atmosphere. Whatever/Whatever get hold of "Telemachus" and strip it down to a sparse skeleton of a track, and then Wilcox rounds the record off with the steppy ambient excursion "Ronin Love (dub)".

Review: As far as we can tell, Cyril The Great is relatively new on the scene, and certainly this is the first release on the Brave Potatoes label. In the absence of hard facts, we must zero in on the sound, and Cyril's got that on lock. If you appreciate hardware jams which sound like someone speaking through the circuitry, you're going to dig this record. Ostensibly this is braindance-esque electro with a home-listening sensibility, but it swerves any particular genre tropes to become its own idiosyncratic thing, which is of course the pathway to the most interesting music. If you love 303s given a proper workout until they truly sing, you'll be more than satisfied with this plucky spud.

Review: Soul meets speed garage on this new V/A EP from Z Records, blurring the lines between the genres in just the way we like it. The opening track - Grant Nelson's mix of 'Starlight' by Dave & Omar - is a euphoric, piano-laced uplifter which both sonically and lyrically urges us to reach for the sky. That's followed by the DJ Fudge production 'Everything' by Chocolate Fudge Band, featuring lots of live instrumentation and a Curtis Mayfield style vocal, while over on the flip, 'Looking For You' proves to be a deep and bouncy cut filled with soulful Motown vocal chops and an organ workout worthy of any Sunday service, over a beautifully wonky house framework.

Review: Stefano De Santis kicks off Ten Lovers' new 'Best Of Various' release with 'Murk'; as the name suggests, this is indeed a dark workout from Rome's finest. The tone is set thereout for a thoroughly varied V/A, blending every curious hallmark from jazzdance, G-funk, Chicago house and progressive. The opener is a muted but no less expansive start, establishing the broken, one-beat-eliding, live-drummy mood that is then heard throughout. Batavia Collective's 'Rearview' thematically harks after an unconscious joy, considering what can only be implied, not stated, by way of a gorgeous, what sounds to be largely live, modal synth squeezer on which the slowdown is the real highlight. Future Jazz Ensemble's 'Over The Rainbow' is by far the most challenging, blurring any woulda-been established lines popularly splitting 'live' and 'electronic' with a reverb-drenched generative fill workout, while closer 'Outer Heaven' from Takahiro Fuchigami, hailing from Fukuoka, rounds things off on a note of Hancockian jive.

Review: After years spent serving up tasty, digital-only singles, Polish imprint That's Right Dawg Music finally makes its vinyl bow via a six-track mini-album featuring some of their most-checked catalogue cuts. Demarkus Lewis kicks things off via the carefully crafted disco-house release of 'TGIF', before Federfunk slams down the jazz-sampling peak-time punchiness of 'We Keep It Groovin' and Jazzmik offers up the funky deep house bounce of 'Get Him Outta Here'. Over on the reverse, Oggie B cannily combines mind-mangling electronic stabs, pumping beats and orgasmic vocal samples ('Steady Old Foot'), Makson makes great use of vintage rap and disco guitar samples on the energy-packed house thump of 'Last Man Standing', and Casserta and Jonny C join forces on the bass-heavy garage-house bump of 'Party #1'.
