'If The Music Makes You Feel Like Dancing' gets underway with lush strong stabs, rolling drums and squelchy synth work that will get those hands in the air. The dub De Jure is a glossy version paired back to the groove, and on the flip, the timeless joys of Gloria Estefan's 'Rhythm Of The Night' get a subtle update with more club-ready kicks. A dub concludes this useful package.

Review: There isn't much info out there about this new and super limited ambient excursion from Mystery Circles, which leaves us only with the music. It's a charming and organic world of sound with lingering trumpet notes stretched out to infinity over textural motifs and sustained chords that are both melancholic and tinged with danger. Sometimes it's abstract sound design like on 'Glass & Steel' that gets the attention, at others more sweeping and traditional ambient like on 'Sounds From Light, Still In Darkness', but either way, this one is seriously arresting.

Review: We don't know much - or anything really - about the secretive Nico Bellari, so all we can go off is the music. This is his own new label, and it kicks off with a delightful pair of edits of some good old disco delights, and both come with their own carefully stripped-back and flesh dubs, all mixed and edited from original multi-tracks. 'Dance, Dance, Dance' is a nice and funky disc stepper with a silky and seductive lead vocal that swells the heart. 'Straight Ahead' is more weighty for the pet time with some fat-ass bass and lovely improvised synth playfulness, all under a vocal you will know and probably already love.

Review: Following almost a decade-long hiatus, Manitoba punk heroes Propagandhi return with their first album in eight years, marking the eighth full-length from the Canadian stalwarts. Serving as successor to 2017's Victory Lap, At Peace continues to channel the same anti-fascist ethos of skate punk meets thrashcore they've harboured since 1986 with their latest effort showcasing a band doing what they can to come to terms with the despondency they've been warning their listeners about since the dawn of their inception. Recorded just before the re-election of Donald Trump and his genuine pondering that the group's home country of Canada become the 51st State of the US, their messaging is as earnest and vital as it has ever been, though admittedly more dejected, worn out and exhausted following three consecutive decades of the same oppressive system, as vocalist Chris Hannah somewhat accepts defeat here while coming to the realisation that all we can currently do is alter our outlook and worldview - "Now it's the existential dread of eking out a life worth living in this completely failed society."

Review: Earl Jeffers is no stranger to crafting effective, big-hearted sounds. He's got plenty of them dropping in the early part of 2025 too, and all of them are slightly different but equally effective. This latest drop on the Melange Archives label was originally released back in 2013 and starts with 'Monster (feat Kofi Tarris)' which is raw-as-you-like house music at a slow and steady pace but with such energy in the chords and funky guitars that it will blow up any club. 'Thunder & Lightning (feat TOG)' lands a little more heavy. There is garage swing in the drums and plenty of expression in the vocal stabs. Two bombs, for sure.

Review: Ohm Series has long since hit its stride but this 14th outing may well be its best yet with a top-tier mix of names on board, all curated by label boss Bjarnar Jonsson aka OHM. The great Bluetrain opens with 'Still Shifting', which is a typically smooth and sub-aquatic dub techno sound that's deep but dynamic and marbled with deft hi hats. Fletcher's 'Holy Ghost' is a gorgeously suspenseful dub soundscape, then on the flip Rai Scott gets a little more pronounced with his grooves on 'Inside The Mind Of A Nebula,' which is defined by a nagging sense of unease. Anthony Georges Patrice's' See The Sun' is a zoned out 6 am gem for when the sun begins to peak through the curtains.

Review: Brawther's Thisisnegentropy.com label has been a pretty global affair to date with artists from all over the world adding their sounds to the mix. This fifth outing welcomes back Croatia's Mariano Mateljan for some more heady tech and minimal excursions. 'Smoke Screen' is pure loopy brilliance with an undulating rhythm made from dry metallic sounds and warmth coming from some odd synth details. 'Exodus' is another airy, smooth sound with dubby low ends and sparse synth details while '2 Overs & A Gutshot' picks things up a little with more glitchy effects and deft sonic abstractions that will make this one perfect tackle for the afters.

He's previously proven to be a master of bringing a hip-hop sensibility to his work, as well as a jazzy and broken beat bone on his 2022 album Iluminated60. This latest turn to Illian Tape is another standout with a mix of dreamy, suspenseful pads and killer rhythms. 'Dreams Of The Lost Moon' isa fine example of that with its far-sighted gaze but body popping drums and 'Darkstar System M312' then gets more moody with a speedy low end and astral pads. Review: Seemingly unable to rest on any of their laurels for long, and already returning just a year on from 2024's noise-rock indebted sixth full-length Coagulated Bliss, ever-prolific grindcore stalwarts Full Of Hell are back with the ferocious Broken Sword, Rotten Shield EP. Featuring notably cleaner production than ever heard prior, the material pays homage to classic death metal motifs whilst eschewing the Melvins worship of their previous outing, with cataclysmic blasbeats and face-metling guitar solos underpinning vocalist Dylan Waker's inhuman shrieks and bellows. Commenting on the retro-style artwork featuring what can best be described as a "dog knight", Walker elaborates - "The dog knights represent these pure defenders against a world of darkness and the feeling of utter grief and defeat when we lose these companions. Along side that metaphor, the song also explains that in this world, all living things are rendered equal in the end, and for some that's a mighty fall."

Calgary's Tomas Fussey is the man behind Kinga, a project that embraces androgyny and nightlife flair and is inspired by gender-fluid icons of the 80s, such as Boy George and Janet Jackson, and fuelled by a love of disco and synth-pop. 'Elevator Operator' and the now-iconic B-side 'Sexy Boy' gained unexpected radio play despite its bold style, while a 1989 remix brought slick production, though it didn't hit commercially. Today, its deep grooves feel more relevant than ever and this version features five mixes, original artwork, liner notes, and a vintage press photo of the glamorous, genre-defying Kinga.

Review: He's played with everyone from Bowie, Lou Reed and Lennon - just the tip of a truly humungous session work iceberg - as well as his longstanding service with King Crimson and Peter Gabriel, but Tony Levin's more than capable of whipping up a musical storm without any celebrity help. This is the bassist's latest solo affair, released in September 2024 and, together with a lengthy list of collaborators - among them KC guitarist Robert Fripp - it bends jazz, funk, rock and experimental soundscapery into numerous new shapes. 'Give The Cello Some' is a delight, answering the question "what kind of music would ZZ Top make if they were fronted by Captain Beefheart?" 'Road Dogs' kicks off half metal riffing, half Krautrock linear grooving before hitting a prog/jazz interface and 'Beyond The Bass Clef' is a serene, beatless, almost classical piece. Full of surprises, this is the sound of a master of the bass game following no-one else's lead for a change - and loving every moment.

Review: Jamie McCue is the man behind the Canadian label Silent Season and his newest concern, Moon Garden is fast becoming just as vital. This fantastic fourth outing comes from Transient Vessels, who McCue describes as "a local artist and good friend of mine." Opener 'Another Day' is a slow-motion motion dubbed-out melon twister that echoes the early Leftfield sound and is detailed with both textured synth leads and more introspective chords. 'Denihilism' is just as slow motion but deeply absorbing with plenty of wide open space for the pads to linger and the drums to churn and hypnotise.

It's a perfectly dubbed-out sound with plump kicks and cavernous sub-bass but does not lack any bite and drive, which is why it is so loved by the heads. Review: The Saint Wax Edit Service series delivers another superb sonic sermon here with Haverdi at the metaphorical lectern. To get things under way, they lay down the impossible funky basslines of 'Chituna' which is powered by big brass and thudding kicks which only heighten the soul. 'Bamboo' is defined by dazzling disco synth stabs with a funky vocal and endlessly wiggling bsasline that cannot fail to get those hips moving. On the flip, 'Come Inn' brings some Afro vocals and low slung drum sleaze and last of all 'Asi Si' brings some Latin flair, organic percussion and marvellous trumpet work to really set the 'floor ablaze.

Review: Biz is one of a number of Australian artists who are having a big impact on the sound of contemporary techno, and he has been playing a key role in the scene since the late 1980s. His sound mixes deep basslines with uplifting melodies and he has collaborated with a number of legends as well as releasing music on labels like Transmat and COD3QR. Now on Acquit, he explores the outer edges of our galaxy with celestial synth lines, sci-fi melodies and deep, Detroit-inspired techno grooves that are brilliantly cinematic and evocative. Review: Turnend Tapes is back with some superb cuts from Swiss duo Le Lab Registered. With 'CB Music' being previously available only on CD back in 2006 and a host of other unreleased edits and remixes, this is a juicy package of exclusivity and the music is indicative of their experimental, rule-breaking techno sound, full of life and imagination. 'The Pitch' kicks off with rugged drums and haunting synth notes, 'Radio Tirana' then layers spoken words into eerie synth modulations and moody drones and 'CB Music' is a slithering and minimal sound with retro-future chords. 'Broadcast All Electronic' shuts down with another wiry arrangement, bleeps, squeaks and the sound of muffled vocals and radio interference all adding an occult edge.

Review: One very handy 7" single and two monumental disco instrumental edits surely destined to get butts waggling on any given dancefloor. The A-side is swept along by a propulsive funk guitar line, neatly switching from classic 70s lushness to 21st century robotics and vocodered vocals and back again, while the flip goes for a more soul-driven vibe, the tight drums and bass pairing polished off by some delicately applied Rhodes piano, definitely the glitterball cherry on top. DJ weaponry so deadly it should probably be outlawed by some international treaty.

Review: Get Fucked might be one of the best DJ aliases ever, and the music the London pair of Nathan Coles and Nils Hess kicked out is also top draw. Now two of their early naughties classics are being reissued starting with a remastered version of 'Charlie's Knickers' which is super tight and kicking tech house with a fat bassline and mystical pads swirling around an alluring vocal. Also featured here is a previously unheard version of Nils Hess' 'Alcohol Is My Favourite' (The Staggering Fools mix) which is another archetypal tech house vibe with physical drums and perfectly weighted bass. Two bona-fide bombs.

Review: Rhadoo has long been in a class of his own when it comes to crafting intricately detailed minimal. Despite doing so for decades, he still finds freshness in his particular milieu, as he does again here on Secret Society, teaming up with multi-discipliniary artist and sound wizard Traian Chereches under the RH.CHER moniker. The cerebral 'Gwen' beings with liquid synths and gloopy sounds, dry hits and kicks and vocal swirls that infuse the whole thing with eerie soul. Giegling main man Edward brings a little more low-end heft to his remix, then 'Zero' gets more wobbly and busy with hiccuping sounds, swaggering drum rhythms and icy hi-hats all sure to sound huge at DC10 this summer. Cabanne remixes with a deft touch that keeps the silky minimal flowing going but with more edge.

P Sol is again the NYC beat maker behind this 7" which kicks off with the deep, laid back swing of 'Trust'. A range of vocals, from backing tunes to r&b females and smoky males, all coalesce around a most organic groove with hooky pads. Review: Eddie Richards' vaults are surely some of the best there can be for tech house heads. The Brit was there on the ground, helping to shape the earliest incarnations of the newly emerging genre back in the 90s and early 00s and few have bettered it since. Proof comes from this reissue of a pair of remastered beauties on new label likethis. 'Destiny' has never before been on wax and is a silky, synth-laced sound with crisp drum funk and then the B-side jam 'The Soul' is a dusty and stripped-back mix of drums, hits, swirling pads and irresistibly loopy grooves.

Review: The Magic Wand label casts another of its sonic spells with an anonymous artist at the helm. It's a knowing blend of many different influences all subtly distilled into a low-key classic. There are elements of yacht rock, Balearic, dub, funk and soul all to be found here. The bassline of 'Crossfire' is slight but funky, the drums sit low in the mix but soon sweep you away on a gentle breeze at sundown and the vocals are effortlessly cool and carefree but really cut through with a quiet charm. This bit of disco sorcery is a one-sided gem that is never going to leave your bag.

It's minimal tech but with maximal impact. On the reverse of this is a remastered dub version of 'Kitchen Spasm' which is another irresistible club cut and makes for the perfect acid double-header.

It is serving up carefully dug-out delights from the treasured vaults of vital London tech house outfit Housey Doingz, and next up is a long-lost and unreleased delight recorded with the legendary voice of house music, Robert Owens, originally recorded over two decades ago. They have aged well and 'Put It All Behind Me' is sure to become an instant new/old modern house classic. As well as the original which channels the vibes of New Day, a dub comes on the flip.
