2AM/FM - "Poison Dart" (7:11)
James T Cotton - "Bizarre Carnival" (13:10)
Review: Tripping back to 2005/4 on a raw, machine funk flex, Dope Jams track back over Todd Mullinix's earlier chapters with two immense slabs of future tech. First up, his 2AM/FM project with D'Marc Cantu with "Poison Dart" a gritty late night Berlin lazer-fest. It's followed by the wily, unpredictable data charges on "Bizarre Carnival" on which you can almost hear the machines hissing in meltdown. This is what flashbacks were invented for.

3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Review: 50 Cent redeems himself with his newest single, "Ayo Technology", featuring the hit-making team of Justin Timberlake's vocals and Timbaland's production. The song is about a mans pornography addiction (with 'technology' being used as a euphemism). With great lyrics, Justin's addictive vocals on the hook and Timbo's top-notch production, this could very likely be Fiddy's finest hour.

8Kays & Juan Hansen - "Falling Down" (Chris Avantgarde remix) (6:52)
8Kays - "Lyra" (5:23)
Review: Watergate, the cult Berlin club known for its riverside location and legendary LED ceiling above the dancefloor, is also a reputable tech house label that deals in fresh names only. Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Colyn & Beswerda make it into a moody and deep groove, Chris Avantgarde brings some peak time prog energy and solo cut 'Lyra' has a warm, paddy broken beat to cruise on through the stars.

Mathys Lenne - "Error" (5:14)
Review: Welcome to the Slippery Yard, a new label out of Spain which is sure to turn heads with this fine first release - a psychedelic blend of techno from various artists. A Morgan's 'Air' is urgent and cosmic a la Jeff Mills, Dc11's 'It's All An Act' layers up deft synth details with sleek linear rhythms and Judy's 'Bide Luzea' is a hurried, pulsing, late-night mental techno trip. A further deep and heady trio of tunes features on the B-side with Bassywax's sub-aquatic sound world on 'Amona Left Us Overnight' taking the headlines for us.

A Tribe Called Quest - "Sucka Nigga" (4:03)
Jack Wilkins - "Red Clay" (4:03)
Review: We're big fans of these educational 7"s that often crop up, with a legendary hip hop jam on one side and the source of some its samples appearing on the flip. This time out we get A Tribe Called Quest's deep cut 'Sucka N***a' - which is taken from their legendary Midnight Marauders album - with its buttery rhymes and funky bass buried deep within. Jack Wilkins's 'Red Clay' on the flip isn't that much of a deviation. Though it's slower and free from the rhymes, it is a brilliantly effective and emotive cut. More like this please.

Abacus/Chez Damier - "Closer" (Jorge Caiado Morning dub) (6:58)
James Duncan - "416 Zone Dub" (6:24)
Jacksonville - "Twilight Industries" (7:58)
Satore - "Keep On" (5:31)
Review: Well over two years has passed since the release of Keeping The Legacy, a compilation style EP featuring tracks inspired by "the classic sounds from Chicago, New York and Detroit". This belated follow-up begins with something rather special: a fine Jorge Caiado 'Morning Dub' of lesser known Abacus and Chez Damier hook-up "Closer". While it boasts their usual chunky, groovy bottom-end, the mix also makes great use of a yearning, cyclical electronic melody. Elsewhere, James Duncan delivers the hazy deep house bump of "416 Zone (Dub Mix)", Jacksonville laces dreamy, drifting chords over a killer bassline and heavy percussion on "Twilight Industries", and Satore reaches for the cowbells and Gwen Guthrie vocal samples on the disco-influenced throb of "Keep On".

"Xanatko", "Isaka" and "Exteberri" truly explore the deepest realms of electronic music, and together make for a mind-blowing experience on the headphones. You'll enter a realm made of woozy soundscapes, field recordings and subtle waves of improvised free jazz. It's dream music for the dreamers, one of the highest calibre. Terrence Dixon - "Daily Routine"
Obsolete Music Technology - "Past Virtue"
Plural - "07"
Jamal M - "Fine & Mellow"
Windimoto - "Friday Night: UBQ"
Review: A hefty double 12" from Generator features a slew of basement techno bombs from both sides of the Atlantic (oh, and Australia). From the pounding, relentless throb of Abstract Science's "The Grinder" to the shuffling groove of "Detroitism" by DJ-T 1000, the eight tracks cover the full breadth of techno's rich sonic landscape. Other highlights include the broken beats and woodblock percussion on Plural's "07" and the more experimental vibe of "Fine & Mellow" by Mathematics boss and general Chicago underground legend, Jamal M. An unmissable collection of tracks packaged in highly collectable artwork by Alan Oldham, who was also responsible for the superbly illustrated Defenders Of The Deep House World EP that surfaced on Third Ear a few months back.

Acasual - "Her"

Kiddmisha & Apoena - "Dancin"
Jonno & Tommo - "Mystic Feelings"
Review: The latest offering on Owen Jay's Batti Batti label features a cast of characters doing different but equally excellent things within the realm of deep house. Acasual is up first, presenting a reflective tour through lingering chords and swirling pads perfect for rainy spring days, while Tominori Hosoya goes one further with the soul-stirring ambience of "Thinking Of The Days". Kiddmisha & Apoena set light to the B-side with the restrained but utterly on-point depth charge "Dancin", and then Jonno & Tommo round the record out with the sultry "Mystic Feelings", making this a complete package of high grade house music from the heart.

Emanuel Satie & Nanghiti - "Forever More" (4:59)
Review: Watergate welcomes back a crew of regular artists for an EP taken from the 27th instalment of its long running mix series. The Adana Twins kick off with a dark and bubbling minimal house number to set a late night mood then Sabb & Black Circle combine to great effect on the more uplifting, piano laced 'Vega', no doubt inspired by the house icon of the same name. Flip it over for 'Suwedi', a tech house track that traps you in a trance with computer melodies and last of all Emanuel Satie & Nanghiti get all spiritual and joyous with the warm house surges of 'Forever More.'

Review: Those seeking out the hardest, no holds barred techno need look no further than the latest Mord release. On Herdersmat Part 23, the esteemed Dutch label presents four furious tracks by some of the scene's heaviest hitters. On side A, the one-and-only Cisco Ferreira returns under The Advent alias with the proper old school techno vibe of 'Radar 06', followed by the functional DJ tool by Sedvs 'Come Clean' which is proper tackle for tripping out under the strobe. It's doing so with a bumper collection of 44 exclusive tracks from 46 of its best artists across an eight-volume vinyl and digital series. Review: Subsequent is doing a fine job of offering up cutting-edge sounds from the UK underground. This 13th EP is a various artists offering with just that on both sides. Aerofunk's 'Idea' kicks off with warped bass and drilling synths that hark back to golden-era tech house. 4D gets more cosmic on his silvery '1 Step Bck 2 Steps Fws' and new school stalwart Josh Baker gets all twitchy and paranoid on the jittery 'Somebody's Watching Me.' Last of all is the gritty and grimy tech bumper that is Croft's 'Levi'. This is fresh club music ready to do damage.

Bringing a full flavour sense of body twisting groove, he flips the opener into a mystic cut with exotic melodies and crunchy, proto-house drums. Review: Three deeply dug edits from the Salamanca crew: Afrobot takes a stomping southern rock cut and gives it such an industrial strength facelift, it transcends the concept of edit and exists in its own entity. Next up is punk funk boogie showdown from Joe's Bakery. All New Order style vocals and an ESG backline, "Night Time Logic" will throw any dancefloor into a frenzy. Dan Aikido opens with '0800 TXT4 Herb,' a smooth fusion piece that builds a laid-back groove, blending fretless bass, jazzy keys and soulful vocals all reminiscent of Rare Silk's 'Storm.' Ernie Ruso's 'Stroke It' offers slow, sensual r&b infused with P-funky wah-wah effects while DJ Nomad's 'African Boy' brings upbeat pop house next to funky organ and a female reggae MC.Jefferies' closer 'A Change Will Come' samples Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a rave-inspired beat and soulful piano. AirK & Cephei open up with 'Desire,' a slick roller with booming bass and epic synths. With Prelude style synth and vocals and the duo's trademark silken production dynamics, it's well worth the wait. Comprised of veteran producer Justin Strauss and analog aficionado Teddy Stuart, or UNO artist Eddie Mars as he's more widely known, this New York pair comes with plenty of individual credentials but together as A/Jus/Ted there's an intriguing sense of the unknown. Utilising the well respected soulful intonations of Canadian vocalist Jeremy Glenn, "A Brighter Light" slots right into the effervescent melodic end of the deep house market, with a rather more upfront remix from Detroit Swindle's Lars Vegas aimed for the Ejeca and Waze & Odyssey crowd. A further rework from A/Jus/Ted - smartly named "Re A/Jus/Ted" - offers the deepest take here.

Anthony John - "Rise Above" (3:30)
Albert "Alchemist" Thompson - "Promise Land Version" (3:34)
Review: Albert "Alchemist" Thompson's Promise Land comes courtesy of Freestyle Records and has great appearances on the mic from reggae and dancehall greats Frankie Paul, Joseph Cotton, Prince Malachi and Anthony John. It has never before been released and has had a long maturation period over the last 30 years. Albert Thompson was chief engineer at I&I Sound Recording Studio once it left LA and head to Jamaica and he saw work with greats like Dennis Brown, Bunny Wailer and Gregory Isaacs. He laid down these rhythms in 1991 during some downtime and then added the vocals 16 years later in London when working with talented local and touring Jamaican artists.

Kai Alce - "Dreamin" (5:28)
Alex Arnout - "Feedback" (6:42)
Alfonzo Bottone - "Mindfully" (8:44)
Javonntte - "Too High" (4:26)
Review: One for the heads here on Body and Deep outta Holland. First out of the blocks is Atlanta house mainstay and a master of smooth and seductive sounds - as well as being the NDATL label boss - Kai Alce. His 'Dreamin' is a timeless classic with cuddly organ chords neatly draped over shuffling drums while a distant male vocals brings the subtle soul. UK vet Alex Arnout then dips down into pad laced after hours territory and Alfonzo Bottone layers up sunny synths, broken beat drum work and jazzy chords on 'Mindfully'. Javonntte's 'Too High' is a typically classy vocal house groove with some fine samples making it sure to pop right off in the club.

David Swatten - "Wave Energy" (John Beltran remix) (5:32)
Review: Since launching in 2018, Aaron Andrew's Chubby label has become a trusted - if frustratingly irregular - source of high-quality deep house. Their latest missive, the Aussie imprint's first release since the autumn, is their most expansive yet, with four fresh cuts (each with an accompanying remix) stretched across two slabs of wax. Aleqs Notal goes ultra-deep on immersive and hypnotic opener 'Planetary Insanity', which is subsequently given an equally spacey revision courtesy of Life Recorder. Cheerier and breezier deep house warmth comes courtesy of Jose Rico's 'Agonias' and Leonids slightly darker revision, while Nail's squelchy, early morning take on Ewan Jansen's bubbly 'Basillica' is one of the EP's standout moments. Arguably best of all though is John Beltran's gorgeous revision of David Swatten's brilliantly bittersweet 'Wave Energy'.

Jank - "What Becomes Of" (6:48)
Jan Kincl - "3300 Gratiot Ave" (feat Ishfaq & Wolford Heifer) (8:04)
Review: Global Essence Sampler is a new series from Deep Inspiration Show Records that calls upon a fine roster of international producer talent to serve up one track each and reflect on what deep house is today. For Allstarr Motomusic the answer is smooth and cruising house grooves with elastic basslines and distant vocal wails. Barce explores classic Larry Heard-style cosmic melodic territory with plenty of star-gazing potential, and Zarenzeit's 'Zahara' is another one that floats amongst the stars with lush ambient pads. Jank offers a more dusty, rhythmic house sound for cosy backroom parties, and then come the jazzy melodies and soulful bass noodling of Jan Kincl's '3300 Gratiot Ave.' Magic stuff.

Alma Construct - "Drive Your Vehicle" (4:52)
Alma Construct - "Escalation 2" (4:39)
J Wiltshire - "Decision Day" (4:03)
J Wiltshire - "Hydrophony" (3:53)
Review: Josh Thompson (Alma Construct) and Vocalist/DJ/Producer Jacob Wiltshire inaugurate Super Hexagon with some cutting edge electro sounds. On the A side it's all about the former, who last appeared on the legendary R&S in 2014. "Drive Your Vehicle" is brooding darkside beats with all the dusty vintage flair of analogue machines. Followed by the breakneck speed and rapid fire arpeggio of "Escalation 2" sounding like classic Dopplereffekt (yes) or Aux 88. On the flip Wiltshire serves up the beat repeat madness of "Decision Day" which is more uplifting than the previous side with a nod to classic Ed DMX or Japanese Telecom. "Hydrophony" is more funky yet mysterious, finding the soul in the machines to interesting effect.

Facade - "Revelations"
Review: The newly established London Housing Trust label inaugurate proceedings with a various artists 12" featuring contributions from Cynic artist Jamie Blanco alongside the previously unheralded Alphonse, Fx Mchn and Facade. It's unclear who the latter are but inside info suggests it's three well known artists operating incognito, but don't let this wilful obscurism put you off as each track here is optimum analogue house at its finest. The Fx Mchn contribution "Jackie" is particularly beguiling, touching on jagged punk funk as much as late 80s house with echo laden vocals smudged deep beneath a delightfully rubbery bass line and buccaneering, malfunctioning drums for six minutes. A promising debut from the label!

Review: Following up some great releases by the likes of Sam Haskin and Shacklo, One Of 4 are back with a nice various artists EP that is simply titled OOFF 003. On this one we have newcomer Altered Feast with the ethereal dub house of 'Cyborg' sounding somewhere between Samuel Andre Madsen and the Cabinet Recordings sound, and Amsterdam-based Romanian Dirty Culture finishing up the A side with the groovy and swing-fuelled groove of 'Turning Kisses To Bites'. Over on the flip, JNJS nails that classic UK tech house sound on the main room antics of 'Close Your Eyes' while Israeli producer Mike Sharon delivers some proper late night mood music on 'A Feeling'.

Review: Althea & Donna combined to beautiful effect on the Joe Gibbs label here with a tune that very much remains an iconic reggae anthem. It was originally released in 1977 and effortlessly captured the spirit of Jamaican music of the day with its irresistible blend of ska, rocksteady and reggae influences. Althea & Donna's stylish vocals are paired with expert production that is full of catchy hooks and neat riffs. The clever lyrics and upbeat rhythm mean it still sounds like a hit as it did back when it did well on the UK charts.

Review: Dungeon Funk lands heavily here with a debut release that sets a good standard from the off. This marks the first time that assured and hardcore deep house heads Dungeon Meat and SlapFunk Records have come together and it is the result of Meat man Brawther hosting a comp on his Patreon channel for aspiring producers to try and impress. From the many entries he received, the four best are served up here starting with Ibiza-based A.M. Project whose 'Flippin' Kicks' has heavyweight kicks and plunging bass. UK-based ADMNTi & Jack Ling offer the quick tech funk of 'Meat Slap', Russia's Fanick brings a trippy breakbeat vibe with 'Watch Me' and Canada's Modal Logic offers 'Space and Science Center', a nice loopy and low-slung banger to close.
