A suspenseful covenant formed between three huge-room techno striators, 'Lift Me Up' was born from a fruitful back-and-forth shared on the road to Sonus Festival in Croatia. Deep House
Review: Three years after launching as a digital-only imprint, Vinny Villbas's Badabing Diskos label finally makes it to wax. In keeping with the label's desire to promote homegrown talent - an approached pioneered by his old pal Prins Thomas via the long-running Full Pupp imprint - all three showcased cuts come from Oslo-based artists. The legacy of synth-heavy, off-kilter Norwegian 'space disco' can be heard across the EP, but especially on Jarle Brathen's 'No Restaurants', which conjures memories of Lindstrom and Todd Terje's work of the late 2000s and Vilbas's dreamier and more loved-up 'Just In Time'. Bolder, bigger and even more life-affirming thrills come to the fore on the flip, where label regular Sommerfeldt delivers the epic breakdowns, driving bass, restless cowbells, winding acid lines and shimmering synth chords of 'The Everlasting Frog'.

Review: After a blistering first 'Hot Creations Sampler' EP heard an inaugural black-gold palm tree get blown down, with everyone to hear it, now comes a gratifyingly quick follow-up, this time with Steve Bug, Denney, Joshwa, Vintage Culture, Vinter and Hot Since 82 all in tow. No-one misses a kick, with Bug & Denney's opening gambit 'That Beat' locking down a morse bassline against stereo planed beat axis; Hot Since 82 contrasts with the incredibo 'Sonedo', which relays pop dance saxophony a-la Alexandra Stan through a believably ecstatic deep house filter. Second's the best!

Review: Adam Collins has proven his mettle with his work for Omni A.M. and Euphoria Records but now he branches out once more with the new label Aquarius Rising. It kicks off with a four-track various artists EP of next-gen talents Cromie, Dylan Payne, Sasha Zlykh, and Collins himself. 'The Knuckle' opens up with a bouncy and dense house sound that's got a sweet garage shuffle to it. Volume Channel's 'Tony Jacal' is a stripped-back and minimal sound with dubby drums, Sasha Zlykh's contribution gets more raw and abstract with whirring machine sounds and Collins shuts down with 'Andrea 3' complete with warped vocal stabs and high-speed drum funk.

Review: The Spas label is only three releases deep but has already stood itself out in the world of minimal and tech. This latest various artist real is another doozy with classy oozing from each beat. Direkt opens up with the speedy and silky tech briskness of 'Hubble' and VincentIulian's 'Brokenh' then gets a little more trippy with a broken beat pattern and woozy chords adding some late-night seduction. Alvaro Medina's 'St1' is a glistening mix of knife-sharpening hi-hats and succulent drum loops run through with some suspensory pads that keep on rising. Pinto's 'Watercolors' is one that locks you into its smooth, frictionless loops where bubbling synth motifs, distant vocal sounds and liquid chords all subsume you.

Review: Simple Times keeps it local here with four Barcelona-based producers all joining forces on one crucial EP from the Catalan capital. All four cuts are for the floor, but are never pure functional tools and all pay homage to the golden era. They also all come with hints of the 90s starting with DJ Gamba's 'La Mode Aujourd'hui', a high speed and haunting tech cut with eerie pads. Liquid Earth's 'The Pressure' while spinning you out on its nebulous eco-system of synth details and Prince De Takicardie keeps it otherworldly with the cosmic tech of 'Let Yo' Body Rock.' Vince Void's 'Unit Call' has a Gat Decor feel to the bassline that will get you up on your toes.

Review: You might have caught onto German label Synq with their release of John Dimas' Rave Wave back in 2020, and now the label finally kicks back into action with a various artists release which widens the scope of the label. DJ Gus leads the way on the A-side with 'Toxic Dementor', a throbbing workout taking cues from Italo and Hi-NRG while retaining the cool demeanour of a modern day club track. Review: The Flesh or Die label launches with a stark statement of intent from five electro innovators operating right at the sharp end. Flotation Aid takes charge to start off with and offers a sound that is both busy and densely packed with sound and texture, but also serene and calming thanks to the background synth glow. Vlaysin's 'Open Your Mind' is something of a nightmarish sound which will have you on edge throughout and Sestrica then brings some more classic electro tropes to 'Ssense' with its snappy drums and celestial melodies. Proxyan & Lewski's 'Cereology' shuts down with some wonky wonderfulness.

Review: Slow-build, Afro-tinted prog house from Raffa Guido, Victor Alc, Moeaike and Crisologo in collaboration for Moblack's latest V/A EP. Blending the slickest grooves with the crispest recordings, each artist does a bang-up job of emulsifying both classic and contemporary sounds here; 'Sudamerica' on the A is the glossy, wet, aloe-scented but still pheromonal fandango of choice, its sloshing guitars and sultry vocals giving off a waft of blithe, palmed, shaded ease; 'Candela', meanwhile, on the B2, has to be our run-up choice, its homespun yet pitch-tweeted vocals providing narrative for a subduedly sexy song.

Review: Texas-based jazz harpist Cindy Horstman quietly released Fretless in 1995, a self-assured exploration of jazz textures and instrumental elegance. Tucked among its originals is 'Something New', a standout soul jazz cut that drifts with mid-tempo grace, elevated by James Kings', well, fret-free vocal perforations. Horstman's harp is hardly heard here on this album salvaging; instead, she procured 'Something New', steeped in street and smooth soul, with tuned claves and electronic triangles abounding. Pressed on clear vinyl and limited to 300 copies, this small-batch reissue offers a welcome return for a quietly majestic moment in 90s jazz-soul fusion.

Review: Electrik Pulse is the first release from French label Duarte and it features a lineup of talented French producers who come from various local underground scenes in Paris, Marseille and Corsica. On the A-side, Human Aventura, making his second vinyl appearance, delivers the raw, jacked house of 'Local Warming' while Corsican producer P.O brings some wiry, twitchy tech house. On the B-side, Victor Benjamin and Pagenty debut and add a fresh and compelling edge to the compilation as they blend new and classic sounds with captivating melodies and rhythms. All four are useful cuts that span a wide spectrum so will prove a useful one to have in the record bag.

Review: Mishell Ivon and Vincent Kwok are back and combining their skills once more with this brilliant bouncy new funk outing on The Sleepers. The first tune on this pocket-rocket of a 7" is 'High', a funky weapon that is high on life and built around well-syncopated drums and a percussive bassline. The icing on the cake is Mishell's vocals which weave in out of the synth stabs and lush keys, all of which are well arranged. Flip it over and you'll get lost in the funk once more with 'In The Dust' with its masterfully rhythmic bassline and more of those buttery Mishell vocals.

Review: Ruvenzori makes the move to vinyl with four artists breaking new ground in the field of organic, spiritual house music. There's a Balearic tint to these harmonious jams, which melt into each other like one extended blend for the terraza of your dreams. 'Uluwatu' features Stan Tone and Izhevski collaborating on a swirling masterpiece with the steady tick of minimal tech house as an undercurrent for ascendant chimes, fluttering guitar licks and vocal murmurations. Review: We're fully signed up fans of the work that Hedzup has been doing. It's a house label that works at the electronic end of the spectrum and likes to bring in weird and wonderful sound deigns next to their high speed beats. This new VA is a great window into their world for first timers, or another essential 12" for those already in the know. JNJS's 'Two Girls' is perfectly colourful and vibrant stuff with retro touches and future feels, Vern's 'Sunlake' is a nice cosmic cruise and Enzo Leep and Matpri on the flip both keep the silky and seductive sounds coming thick and fast.

Review: UK dub label Partial Records welcomes dub cats Vivian Jones and Vinney Satta for a new split 7". Jones's 'Return Ticket' kicks off in slow, libidinous fashion with sparse wooden rim shots and joyous horns bursting out of the laid back rhythm while the wailing vocals bring a traditional touch. On the flip, Satta steps up for a dub out version of the original which is more roomy, liquid and heady for those late night sessions when you can hook on to the endlessly echoing chords and bass. Two classy sounds with a contemporary twist.

Review: June Jazzin has long flown the flag for South Africa's broken deep house scene, crafting tracks that sit at the intersection of jazz-funk, spiritual uplift and syncopated club rhythms. His broken edit of 'Boogie With Me' is a standout hereidusty yet nimble, with a supple bassline and keys that feel lifted from a smoky lounge set. He curates the rest of the record with care: Lukamusic opens with 'Dear Women', built around brushed drums and devotional harmonies, while Vencer Cafe's 'Xxx' is sparse and seductive, draped in delay and off-grid swing. El Payo closes with 'Sunbright', the most classic-sounding of the fouriorgan-led and low-lit, but undeniably rich. Assembled with real touch, this is a deep house 12" that slips between moods without ever losing the thread.

Review: Here's a heavyweight suite of club cuts from the Toolroom Trax stable, featuring a whole squad of names linking up for some big room belters that should go down very nicely indeed with any medium-to-megasized party experience. Mark Knight's extended mix of 'Ready' is a proper epic, not least when the 'Insomnia'-esque stabs kick in. CASSIMM's 'Wanna Feel Something' is a heads-down sexy workout, while Superchumbo and Victoria Wilson James get remixed by Crusy for an equally brooding, high-end production. James Hurr and Arthur Baker round things off with chunky monkey 'Powder In The Nose', which teases a whole lot and then delivers even more on the drop.

Review: Way back in 2008, Romanian dance-pop producer Edward Maya scored a global hit with Vika Jigulina hook-up 'Stereo Love' - a slick, hooky song (complete with obligatory noughties auto-tune vocal effects) wrapped in jaunty, turbo-folk influenced accordion motifs and various nods to the EDM end of the house music spectrum. This reissue boasts three versions first released in the late noughties - the superior extended mix, radio edit and Moella's tougher, tribal house-tinged interpretation - and what appears to be a previously unreleased Mia Martina 'extended remix'. That boasts some swirly effects and slightly chunkier beats, but otherwise sticks closely to Maya's chart-bothering original mix.

Side A on this restitutive record resurrects Vil-N-X's 'De' Jah Voo', its punchy new 'Vil-N-X Mix' redelivering raw 90s sass via urgent hip-rap vocals. The 'Rendezvous Mix' leans into a more meditative space, its lush flutes and deeper harmonisations fostering a mood-drenching for the ages. Review: It has been a rather remarkable three years since Yuko dropped its first release, but finally, they are back with more. It is co-founder Emo Omar who features both solo and in collaboration with Luje from Club Pizza while two exciting new French talents Chud and Vivant also make their mark. 'Pollen' is a bright and hooky melodic electro sound then 'You & Me' gets more percussive, with old school cow bells staying busy next to all sorts of wonky synth work. 'Tomorrow's Made Of Breaks' is built on rigid funk and trippy synth bleeps and 'Zeus' shuts down with some retro-future vocoder vocals. This is a great return from a label we hope now pushes on.

Review: If you're thirsting for more of that horror soundtrack house then you're not going to want to miss out on this one. BOOOoo! is a new French label debuting with four protagonists in this buoyant sound, leading in with PO tapping into some serious scientologist vibes on 'Self Deception' before Venetia demonstrates the theory that the longer the note, the more the dread on delightfully creepy workout 'Fat Man'. Eliaz tips a bucketload of acid into the mix on 'Weuweueoou' and BOOH completes the picture with the throbbing jack track 'EVIL'.

Review: Moxy Muzik's 'Moxy Editions' series of multi-artist EPs has long been a reliable source of quality underground house music, with the six previous instalments - all released between 2021 and 2023 - being packed to the rafters with high-grade material. There's plenty to set the pulse racing on volume seven too, starting with the driving, druggy and mind-altering peak-time excellence of Stacy Pullen's 'Nasty', a slamming concoction that makes great use of vocal samples lifted from a Prince-produced Vanity 6 classic. Label chief Darius Syrossian then delivers his interpretation of Audiojack's 'Get Down', reframing the track as a soul-fired slab of NYC tribal house of the sort that was once the preserve of Danny Tenaglia. Over on the reverse, Vincent Caira offers up the swinging deep house chunkiness of 'Position' and Buckley delivers the all-action, break-sporting rave hedonism of 'In 5D'.
