Abdul Raeva - "Invasive Overdrive Track" (6:42)
Aldonna - "Inner Elation" (5:25)
Demi Riquisimo - "Maggy Doesn't Need To Know" (7:27)
Inner Zone - "The Vision" (5:23)
Donald's House - "Jam 3" (6:40)
Review: Big hello to new label A Lifetime On The Hips which has a great name and great stamp on this limited edition first 12". It kick off with a various artists affair packed with full flavour cosmic tech. Abdul Raeva opens up with the twinkling melodies and sleek tech drum work of 'Invasive Overdrive Track' then Aldonna's 'Inner Elation' gets more deep with a steamy whispered vocal and shimmering drums. There is more classic sound US house from Demi Riquisimo, lashing of snappy techno from The Vision and bouncy astral house from Donald's House's 'Jam 3'. A great first EP.

Aline Umber - "Satisfied"
Adrien Calvet - "The Foil"
Latent - "Interstellar Object"
Karaba - "Loop Da Loop"
Ilyes - "Last Organ I Promise"
Review: Adrien Calvert is building up a presence in that cheeky, chunky 90s revival happening around minimal tech house at the moment, and his Stay At Home label is becoming a hot bed of fresh and fruity house jams. Take this VA release as a fine case in point, welcoming the bulbous acid strutter 'Satisfied' by Aline Umber to shake its shoulders next to Calvert's own playful deep house joint 'The Foil'. Latent takes things space-wards on the B side with 'Interstellar Object' before Karaba completes the picture with the crafty beats and synapse-tickling synth delights of 'Loop Da Loop'.

Horace Andy - "Fever" (3:47)
Im & The Agg - "The Flue" (2:04)
Review: "Fever" is one of Horace Andy's biggest hits. Amazingly, it has never been given its own release so Studio One has done the right thing and put it out on a super loud 12" for the first time. It first landed way back in 1973 before Andy rose to contemporary fame appearing with Massive Attack on five of their albums, but still hits hard. The lush vocals sit well in the swinging drums and bass, and makes it a sure fire dance floor destroyer that won't hang around. Comes accompanied with a Cedric "Im" Brooks instrumental version on the flip.

Aron - "Shift"
Distilled Noise - "Trenta"
Idana - "Sunday"
Vern - "Orizont"
Review: Italian label Micro Orbit takes its bow here in the form of a various artists' EP across a nice heavyweight 12". Aron opens up with 'Shift' which is a bubbly minimal house cut with aqueous synths and popping drums. Distilled Noise's 'Trenta' then layers up more silky synth sounds with underlapping bass waves lifting you off your feet. Idana ups the ante with more uptempo and quickened drums and bass loops that are detailed with gorgeously wispy melodies on 'Sunday' before Vern closes down with 'Orizont' which is the most sleek and tech-y cut of the lot. As far as first releases go, this is one that bodes well for the future.

The Realm x Atjazz x Kelli Sae - "On The Road" (vocal mix) (7:58)
Review: Back ion 2021, the relaunched Foliage Records imprint offered up a killer mix from NYC house legends Mood II Swing, the must-check Deep Rooted. Soon, the revitalised label will release a sequel, with long-serving British deep house don Atjazz at the helm. This sampler EP boasts six of the highlights from that set - all remixed and reworked by Atjazz himself. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the tense, slowly building deep-tech shuffle of Halo''s 'Glorty (Atjazz Galaxy Art Remix)'and the sun-splashed 6am bounce of Atjazz's remix of Dominique Fils-Aime's gorgeous 'Sun Rise', to the dreamy dancefloor wooziness of Ralf GUM's 'AWA' (re-imagined by Atjazz as an Osunlade-esque spiritual house workout) and the jazzy, bass-guitar-propelled broken house excellence of 'On The Road (Vocal Mix)', a three-way collab between Atjazz, Kelli Sae and The Realm.

Azotix - "Hurt" (3:36)
Styke & Submorphics - "Lonely Dub" (3:22)
Lo - "Transition" (3:46)
Imo Lu - "Inhibition" (4:02)
Review: Rosebay Music presents 'Darker Flowers', a fresh V/A project showcasing four hotly-tipped new school producers, all of whom represent a hauntingly soulful drum & bass sound with class and elegance. Romanian wunderkind Azotix has been making moves recently with his ultra-clean future bangers, but here he demonstrates another side of his sound with the beautiful 'Hurt'. Styke and label boss Submorphics, meanwhile, link up in The Hague for a unique collab, 'Lonely Dub', channeling dub techno and moody film noir D&B. LO! represents Chicago with the interstitial banger 'Transition', bringing an early 2000s sound into 2024, while Imo-Lu finishes things off with the gorgeous, ye deadly bassbin rattler 'Inhibition'. Epic soundsystem music straight out of Glasgow.

Featuring Iveta and arriving on their Human By Default label, the single captures their deep, organic house sound and ice again it blends their cultural influences into enchanting grooves characterised by dramatic minor chords, wavy drums, and wooden percussion. Iveta's soulful vocals add emotional depth, making the track a standout in the organic house world. Review: A repress of Innershades & Betonkust's 2018 new beat sensation 'Forever In Boccaccio!' has long been requested by hardcore record collectors. And now it has become available and has been fully remastered and housed in a new sleeve design, limited to just 300 copies. It was first made, according to the two being it, in January 2017 "under grey Belgian skies," when they had been consuming lots of acid and new beat, which of course shows. The title cut is brilliantly dark and gothic but is backlit by haunting vocal harmonies and underpinned by a menacing bassline. The three other cuts explore similar moods and grooves with great authenticity.

Inland Knights - "Hands Up" (6:01)
Review: The Blind Vision label celebrates five years in the age with a nice look back at some of its Hidden Treasures From The Past. Big Al gets underway with an immediatly catchy and dubbed out, stripped back and cool-as-you-like groove in 'If Only' (Silverlining dub). Fred Everything & Jay Tripwire then link to sublet effect on the US garage groove that is 'Sometimes I Feel' with its liquid dub chords and steamy trumpet motifs, and Grant Dell goes for a deep cosmic workout on 'Being There.' Last of all is the chunky house funk of Inland Knights's 'Hands Up', a real dance floor heater with atmospheric vocal musings.

Ipeo - "Expander" (7:12)
Review: An international EP comp from Positivesource, the four tracks contained on this monstrous hard trance compendium are like sonic wake-up slaps. '8am In Salford' by Blasha and Allatt, while not elucidating where in Salford they're alluding to, certainly conjures all sorts of images of famous rave venue The White Hotel, with its alternating strobe lights and menacing size. The production on every track here is massive, each one emphasizing its kicks and percussion before weaving in additional melodic layers. Spekki Webu's 'Elavation' is the best techno tune we've heard in a while too; it's not often you hear such a well-rounded unity of sounds glued so tightly together.

Review: Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas label has released a slew of top-quality deep house and dub techno music since its inception ten years ago in 2014. The label continues to be one of the top labels in Europe currently for deep listening dance music. This compilation celebrates the history of the label and is part one of the three EP's that will honor the Spanish imprint. This brilliant collection features the beautiful 'Tali' by Pablo Bolivar as well as Germany's Iron Curtis dancefloor burning remix of 'Boundaries' by Yarosslav. To close out the first side of the 12", you have the dark and mysterious dub techno gem 'Candelaria' by Krissky. The B-Side is equally as great with Powel's gentle tech remix of melancholy star 'Vine of the soul' by n2Deep. Then you have Anton Lanski who is also featured giving us the emotional 'Never knew her'. Closing the EP out is tech brilliant 'Light shadow' by Agatha Pher. This is a great example of a label showcasing the perfect songs that exemplify their labels sound.

Lectromagnetique - "Space Coast" (5:40)
Francois Dillinger - "Agitated Particles" (5:17)
CH415 - "Spaze Modulations" (4:23)
Review: Binary thinking has been around since the invention of coinage in ancient times. Indeed, there are two sides to every coin, or slab of vinyl. It's this seeming representation of two poles - heads or tails, 0 or 1, the spiritual world and the physical - that has led us to polemicize them in art, exploring either extreme playfully. On one end of the extreme you've got ultra-lofty new age music. On the other end, there are releases like 'Blue Binary Code', in this case hailing from Spanish label and musical assembly line, Gladio Operations. Their camp specialise in the kind of merciless, rationally-calculating, dystopically functional, robotic electro we all know and love, and these four new tracks, adding once again to their prolifically generative output, range from the scientific and gnarly ('Agitated Particles') to the surreal and sanitized ('NH3'). Of course, what is electro but a mere Operation?

Total Science & FD - "3 Way" (4:54)
Review: Kicking off summer a full six or seven months in advance, Symmetry Records embark on a vinyl reissue of their first, originally digital 12-track compilation LP. Now it's whittled down into a four-piece sampler with a curator's tracklisting. On the A of this one, we've the slick and lightfooted 'Past North' by Break & Kyo followed by the relatively backstair jazzstep piece by DJ Marky, 'Hard Hands'; a vocal d&b peak-timer and rolling vibesetter respectively. The B moves liquid with Ill Truth & Satl's ruthful brooder 'In Your Soul' featuring Charli Brix and with a remix from Lenzman, followed by Total Science & Fd's '3 Way', which registers as more of a vintage liquid fusion.

Plodding downtempo and achy, breaky heart-strings are tugged as we take our daily dose of 'Remedy', while electric bossa nova and cinematic strings help us see 'The Light'. Nathanael - "Shroom One" (6:00)
Review: Massive weirdo minimal tech verging on wackout experimental dance from the Planete 51 crew, welcoming five of their greatest to the fore for a new V/A. With producer Brent kicking things off with a fiery fidgeter whose predilection for variation seems to know no end, 'Etoile' is a buzzing, alarmingly comical track, working in strange UI zaps, wobbles and film samples at seemingly every twist and turn. The vibe continues into the Chanbara themed 'Wazabi Sword', which is the ultimate samurai deep tech crossover tune. Itarima weirds things out further with 'Amour Degueulasse' with weirdcore detunings on the lead, before Nathanael takes on a mood of nighttime noir to close things out.

Outro Tempo II EP: Electronic & Contemporary Music From Brazil 1984-1996
Bruhaha Babelico - "Bruhaha II" (10:10)
Individual Industry - "Eyes" (3:54)
Review: Music From Memory's first retrospective of obscure Brazilian electronic music, "Outro Tempo", was arguably one of the strongest compilations of 2017. There's a second volume on the way, with curator John Gomez this time focusing on music made between 1984 and '96. First, though, we get this taster EP featuring two previously cassette-only cuts. On the A-side you'll find Bruhaha Babelico's "Bruhaha II", a ghostly and mind-altering chunk of delay-laden new wave/industrial funk fusion full of fuzzy bass, echoing female vocals, dubbed-out electronics and psychedelic yelps. Turn to the flip and you're greeted by Individual Industry's off-kilter, outer-space synth-pop jam "Eyes". Like its predecessor, it's an unusual, intoxicating treat.

Review: Two techno knights in shining armour, Joseph Capriati and Indira Paganotto, rise to a collaborative challenge on their latest split vinyl single. Brought to their resident Artcore Records, 'Ananda' and 'Mantra' are spiritually intoned yet no less hard psy-tech towerers. Paganotto is said to have laid down the exotic vocal chops on 'Ananda' directly and the final product hears these laced through a blossoming, emu-synth rising action and a stuttering pre-drop. Perfect fits for the larger club or festival stage, these twin tracks work the careful balance of grave and utopian sound.

The boundlessly potentiated space between disco, dance and jazz is their game, and 'Tropical Disco Volume 23' proves they can win it time and time again. Four tracks of trumpetting 4x4 glory-buzz dominate this EP. Review: Shout out to the newly launched Onedub which opens its account here with a nice clean dancehall 12" that features Danman on 'Fussing N Fighting.' It has bright digital synth sounds and natty leads over airy, rubbery drums. The legendary Indica Dubs then step up for a hefty dub that becomes much more dark and menacing thanks to the sheer scale of the cavernous bass. Two further dubs take up the flip side for some melon twisting, sound system testing brilliance. This is a fine start to what is sure to become a label well worth following.

Review: Four fresh new ones from the Molekul crew in Paris. The title 'Heavy Rotations' plays on the affective "heaviness" of toting records around the world and DJing them at raves; it's no wonder they say that where there is repetition, as in techno, there is unfinished business (in this context, the word 'rave' is no coincidence either). Needless psychoanalytic accounts of repetitive beats aside, the tools on this heavy-set, heavyweight, heavy-hitting 12" record - which merge the heavy-metallic industrial works of Beau Didier, Isaiah, and Flits - are hard, yet gut-wrenching enough to loosen even the tightest of screws. The tracks therein are speedier even than a mighty Mitre saw, by which the hardest of woods are split into two; and you can be sure that, like a saw, you'll soon see and hear these cuts on heavier rotation too.

Like A Tim - "Wonderline 1" (Prins Thomas Diskomiks) (5:45)
Katerina - "Meet Chu In My Dreams" (5:44)
Review: With acid sounds once again being all the rage, Running Back has decided to launch a new series featuring previously unreleased, TB-303-heavy cuts. The versatility of the machine - which, after all, was initially designed to create basslines - comes to the fore across the EP, from the throbbing, acid bass-propelled techno-jack of DVS1's 'Lower Wacker Drive' and the low-tempo early morning creepiness of I:Cube's 'Folie Noire', to the excitable acid house funkiness of 'Go Kart' by Marko East and Jordi Chu's, and the colourful dreaminess of 'Meet Chu In My Dreams'. Best of all though is Prins Thomas's remix of Like a Tim's 'Wonderline 1', whose TB-303 squelches ride a cowbell-rich disco-not-disco groove rich in the Norwegian's usual loose-limbed, live-sounding drums.

Review: Yuima Enya & Inokashira Rangers offer fresh takes on classic Sade tracks with their new release. 'Smooth Operator' transforms into a smoothed-out lounge record infused with reggae, while still retaining the soul and pop appeal of the original. On Side-2, 'Kiss of Life,' becomes a breezy jam with a subdued yet vibrant lounge band feel. Hats off to them for tackling such beloved songs and making them their own. These are great alternative versions, bringing new life to Sade's classics while respecting the originals. Perfect for fans looking to experience these timeless tracks in a new light.

Review: Corsican label Isula Science drop a fresh brooder of previously unknown electro knowns, this time from label founder Flash FM alongside HDV, Sweely and Man/ipulate. Spanning vertiginous dark acid, then moving on through to dreamatic neon breakbeat and expedient Italo - 'Vol de nuit' especially makes signature use of a classic slap bass synth - they've got us entirely covered here. Enticing bumps in the night from the exquisitors.

Review: The endlessly fertile scenes that are minimal and tech house yield more essential DJ goodness here as Bread & Butter assembles a selection of talents for this ninth various artists' release. Alex Font & Aron open up with 'Walking On Clouds' which is not as airy and dreamy as it might sound, but does lay down a nice deft minimal groove. Beiger has a more sunny outlook with the mellifluous synth clouds of his 'Audible Illusions' and Mihai Pol then brings ouse late night jazz house cool to his 'Bip Bip.' Iuly B completes a varied package with the heady loops and wispy cosmic synth motifs of 'Bouncing Lights.'

Review: The influential 90s IDM and techno act Future Sound of London continues to delve into their early career with the reissue of The Pulse EP Vol 2, originally released in 1991. This EP exemplifies the early techno sound, blending rave elements with the more intelligent and linear side of electronic dance music. Side-1 kicks off with 'Stolen Documents' (Jazz dub) by The Future Sound of London, a track that perfectly melds jazzy undertones with dub influences, creating a sophisticated and immersive experience. Following this is Smart Systems' 'Zip Code' (Stress Ball mix), a piece that balances high-energy beats with a stress-relieving ambiance. Side-2 begins with 'Innate' (W O W mix) by The Future Sound of London, a track that delves into deeper, more atmospheric realms, showcasing the group's innovative approach to soundscaping. Indo Tribe's 'I've Become What You Were' (Insider mix) closes the EP, with a pulsating techno rhythm that encapsulates the essence of the early '90s rave scene. Before their signature chill out sound was made, FSOL his some of their highest notes here with these early EPs.

Review: The first official LP from Geinst comes by way of a collaboration with lesser-known yet no less talented production god Inerit. Together, they bring generative techno pops and chops via modular ambient to the former's self-titled imprint. 3 years in the making, 'Geinst' is the result of frank conversations about how to effectively collaborate. A merger of hazy, breathily grand proportions, we're most taken by the cyberpunkish post-watery chords of 'Neocitizen' and the clicking factoryscapes of 'A(R)' - both of which sound like limitless traversals of dubious eco-cities.

Review: This time last year, Jimi Disko's excellent Emotions Electric label invited us to traverse 'Planetary Highways' in the company of a range of stargazing electro and techno producers. On 'The Outerworld', he opts for a similar approach, with four more talented producers delivering decidedly intergalactic and sci-fi seeped workouts. Innate co-founder Gilbert kicks things off with 'Fractals', a melodious, undeniably intergalactic chunk of widescreen deep electro brilliance, before Sound Synthesis wraps shimmering pads, melancholic chords and undulating acid lines around punchy electro beats and deep sub-bass on the similarly sublime 'Science of Gratitude'. Over on side B, INFO pays tribute to Warp's peerless Artificial Intelligence series with the shuffling and spacey 'Remember', while RekaB's 'Smooth Lines' is warm, woozy and effortlessly immersive.

First up, the boss himself offers up an extended mix of Groove Armada's legendary 'Get Down' which is full of rave stabs and big vocals. Illyus & Barrientos offer the synth laced and peak time sounds of 'When You Gonna' and David Penn & Offiah combine for the supersized piano house rollercoaster that is 'Satisfied' complete with big hooky vocals. Igaxx - "Ray In Space" (4:13)
Review: Will Hofbauer and Igaxx collaboratively expand the all-too-easily received palettes of electro, techno, garage all in between, and even more yonder, proving to us that the boundary edges of each genre may be blurred without worry. Sharing three groove-bays each on this latest 12", Hofbauer indulges an across-the-pond sojourn, guesting on Japan's Ladybug label, which is managed by the also eminent Igaxx, who occupies the B with equal grip. Hofbauer's 'Cricket', 'Clod' and 'Cocodrilo' bring three endocrine C's to a singly sanguine side, echoing a Hessle Audio-esque experimental dance sensibility while secreting all manner of vital sonic fluids from his ears unto ours; the last track is especially alarming; cursedly toothy, its growly lead zombifying the elsewise rapid mix by way of an enthralled grunt. Igaxx's contributions are relatively supportive and yet mad, moving from the squelches and pipey ascensions of '4 5 SL Trip' to the parabreaks flows of 'Liquefy' and the sloshing cosmo-funk astro-vista that is 'Ray In Space'.

Review: Here's something rather special: I Bellissimi Dischi di Ornavass is an Italian duo project exclusively focusing on niche dance and disco experimentations, but their selections have an extra-curatorial and quality weight to them. It's not clear as to how much editing or post-prod has been added to the music, but this EP contains four tracks selected from the vaults of the secluded Archivio Fonomeccanico Ornavassese, a collection of old tapes and machines in Northern Italy that were long ago used to create sound effects and music for movies and radio shows in the 1970s-80s. Needless to say, SOMAR, a new Italian label that focuses on obscure and avant-garde sounds, have done god's work in putting this one out.

Review: Bellissimi Dischi di Ornavasso open the doors of the Archivio once again! Meticulously chosen from their vast, nigh boundless collection, each selection in this series maintains the warm and danceable sound that has continually distinguished SOMAR Records from the rest. 100% Italian, and certified by officer T. Campanat, their latest brings four new ones to the fore, which are increasingly whammy and experimental; 'Cosa C'e' is ear-infatuating enough, with its from-scratch handclaps and high strings, but from the jump of 'Mondo Killer' we realise we're in for a more experimental, electro-tinged and sample-heavy ride, ones like which we rarely hear.

Review: It's been 22 years since the release of I-F's razor-sharp Dutch electro anthem, "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass". Given the upsurge in interest in electro of late, it's little surprise to see the man himself offering up this reissue, which is focused around two previously digital-only revisions that first landed back in 2010. Stretched out across the A-side is the brilliant - and undeniably mind-altering - "XL Remix", a nine-minute revision that gives greater prominence to the producer's twisted electronic riffs, industrial strength melodies and dusty drum machine percussion. This time round, it comes accompanied by both a vocoder-free Instrumental take and "Pong's Run", a lesser-known collaboration with Intergalactic Gary that's slow, spacey, out-there and thoroughly intoxicating.

Raw, spooky synth wave is the guiding influence on 'Rock Da Foz', while 'Brigitte' has a dark side electro slant which should go down a storm with lovers of that ghostly old-skool sound. 'What Is Inside?' maintains the mood with more analogue synth tones from beyond the grave, tapping into a vibe as cheeky and playful as it is creepy. This sound is getting major traction right now and Iacobucci and Flore have absolutely nailed it.

Review: According to Beating Heart, Hugh Tracey made several thousand field recordings across Sub-Saharan Africa between the 1920s and 1970s. His intention was to 'reveal the beauty and complexity of the music to a world that saw little value in it.' Fast forward to the present day, Tracey's bid to preserve the music of Africa for future generations lives on. Beating Heart has shared the late Tracey's archive at the International Library of African Music (ILAM) with contemporary producers and keeping in line with Tracey's vision, all proceeds will be used to assist people in the areas where the music was originally recorded. London's Throwing Shade, fresh of a great release for Ninja Tune turns in the vivid and polyrhythmic 'Dream Scene", Hotflush's Machinedrum gives us the intense polyrhythmic Sub Saharan trance induction of "Lewasi" while Ibibio Sound Machine gives us the soul-funk boogie of "Amai Ndiwulule".

Review: The first missive from the reissue-focused Throwdown imprint takes a deep dive into the bulging back catalogue of West Coast hip-hop legend Ice Cube. Side A offers us another chance to own 1992 hit "It Was A Good Day" a languid, sun-kissed Golden Era jam crafted from elements of a familiar slab of laidback jazz-funk. Over on side B you'll find 1999's "You Can Do It", another once high-profile single featuring additional verses and vocal contributions from Mack 10 and Ms Toi. Emblematic of Cube's signature West Coast G-funk, this one's replete with the glissando'd whistles and smokey funk motifs we all know and love from the frozen rap hexahedron, who confidently assures us of us already knowing how he does it.
