Review: Kiko Navarro is back on the Canopy label to head up its tenth vinyl outing and once again brings global influences to his brand of disco. The rousing vocals come from Kaleta while Kiko lays down Afro-tinged and hefty kick drum patterns and runs them through with cosmic synth lines that are taught and nebulous. The electro-afro-beat rhythms come even more to the fore on the flipside when weighty bass oscillations bring the instrumental to life. Both cuts are potent, powerful jams with muscular rhythms but no lack of soul - and both of these are primed and ready for full on late-night dancefloor action.

Review: Since parting company with collaborator and mentor Ron Trent in the mid 2000s, Anthony Nicholson has built up a vast catalogue of evocatoive, emotion-rich and spiritually enhancing deep house EPs - mostly on his own long-serving Circular Motion label. Following the delivery of his first 12-inch for the imprint in three years, 'Sound Theories', last month, Nicholson returns with two more typically atmospheric treats. He begins with 'With You I Am Born Again (Space N Tone Rework)', a typically gorgeous and tactile vocal number in which layered deep space synths and jazz-funk electronics rise above Ron Trent-esque beats and a squelchy synth bassline. Over on the flip, he provides a fine 'InstruDub' of the same track, cannily showcasing the beats, bass, chords, acid-flecked electronics and all-round stargazing positivity.

Review: Last year, Wonderwheel Recordings founder returned to Turntables on the Hudson with The Remix Machine, a vast digital compilation (and eight-track vinyl sampler) featuring some of the countless reworks he's completed since the 1990s. This second 12" expands on that set, serving up six more of the New York-based producer's favourite re-rubs. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the rolling Cuban house business of his Megablast tweak ('La Isla'), and a low-slung, d&b-influenced Latin breaks take on OVEOUS & QVLN, to a suspenseful slab of psych-funk-goes house (the New Yorker's tweak of 'Yiorti' by Antois Antonio), and even some bouncy, low-tempo Balkan beats (Balkan Bump's 'Codek America'). Review: Prolific multi-media artists Damon Locks and Rob Mazurek are long time creative partners but this is their first ever collaborative project. New Future City Radio is a busy 40-minute suite cut into 18 tracks that are all short but hugely potent and play out like a well-sequenced mixtape. Across the playtime they contemplate "community, transformation, and the future through the programmatic format of a pirate radio station for the people." They have worked together since the late 90s so have rare chemistry and prove that and then some here.

Review: NT is Nail aka Neil Holliday, one half of Bent and a master of UK tech house. But here he shows a different side across six majestically Balearic groovers. That draw on everything he has done before to send you out to sea on gentle waves of shining synth goodness, downtempo bliss and dreamy, chubby, soft focus drums. 'Beside Boa Linn' is a soothing summer sound to kick off then 'Going Out To Feel It' is a spiritual house cut for sundown, and 'Don't Hide Away' is slow motion disco brilliance. Review: Wild Pitch Club is next up in the excellent and ling running Running Back Mastermix series. It's a legendary space that has very much defined the Frankfurt and wider german scene and was also something of a predecessor venue to the new well-loved Robert Johnson. That club was itself a place where Panorama Bar's very own nd_baumecker really made waves and it is they alongside co-founder Ata who have curated these tunes. The venue was hooked on the US sounds and often hosted the likes of Robert Hood and Claude Young to Kerri Chandler all of which shows in the sounds of the tunes.

Review: Synaptic Juice is a dizzying trip into the world of electronic and synth-driven sounds with Edinburgh's Natasha Kitty Katt at the wheel. Her third studio album is a melange of retro 80s beats, eerie atmospheres and futuristic storytelling which explores the surreal psyche of Ze Katt and features tales of vampires, alien love and otherworldly experiences. Review: After years spent working alongside a talented pool of jazz musicians as the Neue Grafik Ensemble, Fred N'Thepe has decided to go solo for the first time this decade. Dalston Tapes Vol 1 is, according to Rhythm Section International, a conscious attempt by the artists to return to his beat-making roots. It's an album, then, rooted in hip-hop mixtape culture, where vocal numbers featuring guest MCs sit side by side with rap-free "beats" - lusciously and impeccably crafted instrumentals in which warming bass guitar lines, deep electronic sub-bass, sparkling electronic motifs and choice samples cluster around loosely swung, MPC-driven beat patterns. It's a great collection all told, with nods towards club-ready broken beat and deep house sitting side by side with Dilla-esque workouts and references towards London's vibrant hip-hop and grime underground.

Review: The Brazilian composer, pianist and producer, Mario Castro Neves, and his group Samba S. A.'s self-titled album from 1967 oozes with class. It possesses that archetypal 60s bossa nova, jazz, samba sound; up there with Sergio Mendes at his finest, Tambo Trio or Milton Banana - a breezy ride that touches on easy listening at times, but still held together with a cool swagger. Biba and Thais Do Amaral's vocals are on point, with a relaxed delivery that compliments the tracks with the sublime beauty a la vocal groups such as Quarteto Em Cy. Also appearing on the record is bassist extraordinaire Novelli, who worked with Milton Nascimento, Nelson Angelo E Joyce, Airto and many of the greats of Brazilian music of the time.

Review: The first volume of this collection of warm and breezy deep house came back in 2019. It was a fine one with a focus on tunes between 1991 and 1993 whereas this one is more broad in scope. It is of course a label run by Nick V's and takes its name from his Mona nights, a series of Parisian parties specialising in the deeper end of the house scale. These tunes come from lesser-known names but arrest who are all well versed in the classic sound. The grooves are cuddly warm, musical in their arrangement and designed for cosy underground spaces and backrooms where close bonds can be made on the dancefloor.

Review: The late Helen Nkume began her music career in Nigeria in the early 70s, forming the Young Timers and crafting a strain of highlife which caught on in the East of the country. By the late 70s she had self-produced her two best albums, which were constrained to the region she resided in and were of course incredibly hard to come by. The diligent folk at Dig This Way came across those records in a village near Umahia and embarked on a mission to connect with her family, gather any material they could about Nkume and present some of her incredible music to the world, which has resulted in this perfectly formed four-tracker of Afrobeat goodness.

Review: Tony 'Addis', the man behind the Warriors Dance label and No Smoke project (amongst many other things) is undeniably one of British dance music's unsung heroes. That much is proved by this re-mastered reissue of 1990 LP "International Smoke Signal", an album so ahead of the game at the time of its release that it still sounds like the future. Most will know acid house anthem "Koro Koro" (here in altered, slightly more downtempo form), but it's the quality of the lesser-known cuts - the sub-heavy, UK steppas-influenced Afro-house of "East of Eden", the bleep-meets-Dream II Science deep house bliss of "OAU In Music", acid-fired "Anti Galactic Devotion" and "Pacific State" style E-rush of "Oh Yes (Freedom)" - that makes it such an impressive and essential set.

Review: Al most ten years in the making, Tom Noble's debut album is that most rare of beasts: a decidedly dusty and loose-limbed revivalist disco album that genuinely sounds like a long-lost 'private press' set from the turn of the 1980s. Noble is a renowned crate-digger, DJ and disco-boogie specialist, so it's no surprised to find that the songs and instrumentals on show, which also offer nods to jazz-funk and dancefloor soul, is exceptionally well observed and painstakingly crafted via the contributions of many guest musicians and vocalists. For proof of the set's majesty, get your ears around the celebratory and synth-speckled 'Times Are Changin', deep disco treat 'Holding On', head-nodding soul slow jam 'Diamond Eyes' and warm, heady closing cut 'Moving Away'.

Review: Many people's first taste of Nocow was amid the second half of the dubstep era - a time when boundaries between established genres and more explorative, contemporary and adventurous beats were blurring, feeding directly into the beautiful mess we see before us today in the dance music scene. Since then, he has graced us with a raft of excellent work which, much like the ethics of the time he emerged from, never really stand still or regurgitate. The difference between Odinocow and 2017's Ledyanoy Album is a case in point. Whereas then we were going through sounds that owed much to 1990s ambient techno, IDM, and associated noises, here we take a very different path, with a haunted R&B undertone running throughout the work, and plenty of nods to polished beach house, trance, and chill wave.

Review: Italian duo Nu Guinea has previously proved adept at creating humid, sultry deep house and tropical-infused electronics. Here, they focus a little more on the latter with a concept album based around the distinctive Afrobeat rhythms of legendary drummer Tony Allen. With his blessing, and that of the Comet label on which he's been releasing since the 1980s, the Early Sounds Recordings pair has cut-up and re-constructed Allen's drums, combining them with their own steamy electronics, vintage synthesizer lines and classic drum machines. It's an intoxicating and hugely entertaining blend that sits somewhere between their previous outings, Danny Wolfers' material under the Nacho Patrol guise, and the dreamy late '80s/early '90s work of forgotten Italian producer Mr Marvin.
