Club Mayz - "Fantasy In This Uncaring Void" (4:05)
Bizarre Billy & James Rod - "El Capron Patron" (6:21)
Ricardo Baez - "Non Dimenticarmi" (4:00)
Seth Booth - "Interzone" (4:20)
Review: For those seeking neo-Italo-disco and synth-heavy dancefloor sleaze, Bordello a Parigi's 'Diamonds in the Night' series has long been a must-check affair. Naturally, there's plenty more previously unreleased gold to be found on the latest edition, volume six. Club Mayz kick things off with 'Fantasy In This Uncaring Void', a cheery, all-action affair that sounds like a long-lost early 90s synth-pop/Italo-disco instrumental, before Bizarre Billy and James Rod doff a cap to Bobby Orlando's productions for the Flirts on the superb 'El Caparon Patron'. Turn to the flip for 'Non Dimenticarmi' by Ricardo Baez, a throbbing and melody-rich slab of Hi-NRG revivalism and the intergalactic excellence of 'Interzone' by Seth Booth.

Review: Parisian label Cracki Records has once again collaborated with Hong Kong's Fauve Records, which is headed up by producer and DJ Romain FX, for another fine edition of the Make Italo Disco Great Again series. This is volume four and it comes after artists like COEO, Arash & Quasar and Mangabey made their amir in the past. This new one continues to showcase global talent and has artists from Ireland, Korea, Mexico, Germany and beyond each sharing their unique take on Italo disco. This volume includes dazzlers by Mystery Affair, Shubostar, Sara Miller, COLE, Maltitz and Romain FX who all impress.

Your Own Style (alternate mix) (8:21)
Your Own Style (dub vocal) (8:29)
Your Own Style (Fun dub) (8:26)
Review: Andrew 'Emperor Machine' Meecham and French vocalist Severine Moultin enjoyed working on their first collaborative single, 2021's 'Dance Par Amour', so last year reunited in the studio to record a follow-up. 'Your Own Style' follows a similar sonic template, with Mouletin singing in accented English atop a typically analogue-heavy Meecham backing track laden with bubbly bass, delay-laden electric piano motifs, layered percussion and the producer's trademark synth squiggles (a feature of his work since the days he was working with Dean Meredith as Chicken Lips). The song is presented in three variations: the stretched-out and pleasingly loose 'Alternative Mix'; the sparse, effects-laden and mid-80s influenced 'Dub Vocal'; and the warmer, subtly funkier 'Fun Dub'.

Review: Michael The Lion and Natasha Kitty Katt began collaborating after Natasha found a second home in Philadelphia. Both share a love for classic disco and teamed up with Suki Soul, a rising star in Northern England's music scene. 'I Found Peace' features Michael on guitar and Natasha on drum machines and synths, along with Michael's long-time studio bandmates. Classical composer and hip hop producer Jules Krishnamurti adds bass guitar, while University of Pennsylvania jazz ensemble leader Dan Paul plays keyboards. Pontchartrain enhances the club mix, with heavy house mixes by Tonarunur (aka B.G. Baarregaard), marking Whiskey Disco's first release in years.

Hypnotized

Hypnotized (extended mix) (5:48)
Hypnotized (Roosevelt remix) (5:21)
Hypnotized (Loods remix) (5:11)
Review: German nu-disco don Purple Disco Machine has been phenomenally successful in recent years, and there's every chance that this single - a collaboration with little-known British indie band Sophie & The Giants - will raise his profile even more. "Hypnotized" certainly sounds like it has serious crossover potential. In its original "Extended Mix Form", the track is an attractive chunk of radio-friendly mid-tempo nu-disco/80s AM radio synth-pop fusion that comes complete with a catchy, sing-along chorus. Roosevelt smartly gives the track a little more organic disco warmth whilst retaining the prettiness of Purple Disco Machine's original synths, while Loods aims for hands-in-the-air peak-time bliss on a cheery retro-futurist big room house take.

Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind (3:57)
Air Of Love (3:54)
Review: For her latest trick, long-serving Canadian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ivana Santilli has decided to cover one of her favourite Level 42 tracks, 1983's 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind'. Her take, which includes additional lyrics she wrote especially, sits somewhere between glossy mid-80s soul and colourful boogie. It has a much more electrofunk and soul flavour than the British band's Brit-funk/jazz-funk original, which is no bad thing. B-side 'Air of Love' sees Santilli dip the tempo and charge towards the close-dance zone - all sparse, slow-motion Loose Ends beats, chiming synthesiser melodies, dreamy chords and her own impeccable, slow-burn lead vocals.

Driftin' (3:41)
Review: Somewhere between a sauerkraut connoisseur, an ancient Athenian philosopher, and a crate-digging obsessive (we'll assume this is the threefold meaning of the nominal pun until we're course-corrected) Saukrates returns with a new single 'Driftin'' via Love Touch Records. This new limited 7" is indeed as, perhaps even more so, delicious as a jar of pickled cabbage considered in Socratic dialogue. The Juno-nominated Canadian icon is here heard teaming up with producer Gil Masuda, who provides a neo-eighties synthfunk bomb over which Sauks flaunts his singing chops (this is a surprise delicacy, as Masuda is not often heard since his 2006 Big Black Lincoln project). Bursting pianos glide over huge gated digi-snares on this gem, the featureless version of which also appears on the B-side.

The Hope (with Kittin) (8:36)
The Dogs (7:52)
Review: Endrik Schroeder's career renaissance continues, albeit three years on from his previous EP - a sparkling, synth-heavy inspired affair that saw the one-time '90s techno producer successfully turn his hand to sun-bright Italo-disco. He's dialled things up a notch on 'The Hope', a storming slab of nu-disco/Italo-disco fusion full of elastic bass guitar, soaring synth lines, spacey chords and restless drums - all topped off with a heady and intoxicating vocal courtesy of fellow veteran Miss Kittin. He flips the script on flipside cut 'The Dogs', smothering unfussy beats in waves of James Holden style ambient electronics, heady lead lines and immersive aural textures.

Seven More Minutes Of Funk (Richard Sen remix) (7:23)
Seven More Minutes Of Funk (The Veteran Delinquents remix) (8:39)
Review: Beyond Paradise releases tend to achieve that most difficult of tricks, ticking both danceable and laid-back boxes, but when you see the pedigree of names they've got on board it's no surprise they're able to. Solid State aka Richard Hardcastle has a history which stretches back to Sheffield's post-punk scene and releases on 90s tech/deep house label Toko, not to mention running the All Out War and Society labels. There's more than a hint of the Steel City's industrial funk/pre-house sounds in his two tracks, be that the muted nightdrive that is 'Seven More Minutes Of Funk' or the wonderstruck new beater 'Rhodes To Nowhere'. Richard Sen joins The Veteran Delinquents on the B-side, the former laying down a carpet of impeccably classy electro grooves, the latter going for a slightly more sinister remix of the A1, all arpeggiated neon rainshowers and chiptuney waves of synth respectively.

Review: Disco Juice kicks off with some irresistibly sweet disco jams on this first volume on 12". Sonic Soul Orchestra get things underway with 'Good Inside' featuring the one and only Kathy Brown belting out some big hooks over strident drums. There are more rickety drums and loose-limbed funk workouts on Da Lukas's 'Drop The Funk' then Yam Who? & Rikky Disco's 'Set Me Free' brings big trumpet energy and withering pads next to lush strings. Last but not least, Guy Preston's 'Purple Heart' (feat Adrian Crutchfield) rounds out with a hip-swinging groove and call and response vocal to get hands in the air.

Review: Three generous portions of blissful beats on the Electric Shrine imprint, kicking off with the downbeat (in BPM terms) but lively 'Solar Visions' coming on like a dub mix of a lost Chic classic, 'What You Love' more like prime-era John Carpenter remixed by a mischievous Orb and 'Un Amore Supremo' a slow motion (one of the slowest we've ever encountered) reverb-fest, designed for more eccentric chillout rooms. And that's all before the opera singer pitches in.

Galaxy Express (5:47)
Review: Matteo Mussoni and Nicola Zucchi, the masterminds behind Sparkling Attitude, pay homage to the disco era of the 1970s and 80s with their debut EP. Dov'eri Sabato Sera narrates a tale of unrequited love, weaving crisp rhythms and wistful melodies into a captivating narrative of youth and dashed hopes. The instrumental version amplifies the emotional depth with soaring analogue strings. On the flip side, 'Melodico Romantico' infuses disco beats with bold hues, as breathy vocals whisper amidst dark rouges and effervescent greens. Drawing inspiration from Japanese culture, the duo presents a glittering finale with daring key stabs and astral echoes draped in a late-night groove. Sparkling Attitude delivers joyous sounds that celebrate the magic of Italo disco and synthesiser soundtracks, evoking the romance of the Italian coastline.

Review: STG Soundlabs' first drop is a wild ride. First up, Suit & Tie Guy goes up against Dorian Electra on 'Fa$t Ca$h (Easy Credit & The Economic Cra$h)' which gets remixed by Objacktivist into eight minutes of bendy deep house with lashings of Ibiza soulfulness. The Lorenzo Vektor is a wild footwork remix with drums piled up on top of one another and the vocal chopped and diced into pieces. On the flip is a star-gazing synth house exploration of outer space and then a killer electro-funk jam. One of the most unpredictable EPs we've heard in ages.

Review: Satin Jackets' Solar Nights has been given a slick anniversary reissue, reaffirming Tim Bernhardt's place as a master of nu-disco elegance. Released on Eskimo Recordings, the album's 14 tracks are a cocktail of shimmering pop, smooth disco, and glossy Balearic vibes, all impeccably produced. From the lush opener 'Welcome Back' to the punchy piano-led 'String It Again', Bernhardt effortlessly straddles the line between retro glitz and contemporary polish. Vocal contributions from Panama, David Harks, Niya Wells, and more only deepen the album's charm, lending their voices to standouts like 'Northern Lights' and 'Mirage', which have already racked up millions of streams. Five years after the album's original release, the reissue finds Bernhardt's production sounding even more refined. Tracks like 'Primordial' and 'Athena' reveal a producer still fine-tuning his sonic craft, with each song meticulously sculpted to glisten with high-end fidelity. And it's all perfectly suited for the dancefloor, whether in the bright sun or after dark. There's no scrappy authenticity here; Bernhardt instead leans into a smoother, more polished sound, setting him apart in a scene that too often favours the lo-fi. Solar Nights still sounds as crisp and inviting as ever - a masterclass in luxurious, late-night disco.

Review: When it comes to gorgeously summery blends of colourful nu-disco and sunset-ready deep house, Tim Berndhardt AKA Satin Jackets is in league of his own. That much is proved by his third album, and first for three years, Reunion. It begins with an immersive dose of sunrise deep house warmth, 'For What We Have', and ends with the piano-spotted, hands-in-the-air audio dopamine of 'Don't Worry'. In between, you'll find a sparkling, sun-bright mixture of Balearic house loveliness ('Little Aeroplanes'), head-bobbing synth-pop lusciousness ('Different Directions', with Ivy Falls), melody-rich cheeriness ('Hundred Fifty Up'), dreamy vocal nu-disco (Tailor hook-up 'Spell'), and smile-inducing, guitar-laden joyousness ('Coffee & Feels').

His latest outing 'Next Stop Nebula' also brings in slide guitars and retro digital synth sounds over the top of rhythms that owe a debt to the 90s. It's a fresh and new sound that makes for expansive, immersive listening and transports you to an imagery, sun-kissed world where gentle grooves like 'Next Stop Nebula' and 'Bride Of Frankenstein' await for a nice laid-back party.

Review: Arriving almost exactly three months after its predecessor, HiFi Sean and David McAlmont's third collaborative full-length is lightly a conceptual flip side to 2024's Daylight - a "dusk till dawn" night drive sequel, as they put it. To provide a distinctly different sonic sheen to the album that preceded it, the duo has reached for slow, soft-touch grooves, dreamy textures, bubbly electronics, strobe-lit synths and musical motifs forged in darker, if still colourful, tones. Add in McAlmont's honeyed, effortlessly soulful vocals, and you have another genuine gem from the 1990s survivors. Highlights include Blessed Madonna collaboration 'The Comedown', the tactile bliss of 'Goodbye Drama Queen', the huggable wooziness of 'High With You' and the heartfelt sweep of 'Star'.

Packed with emotion and swelling refrains, 'Sad Cities' is a universal lamentation for failed metropoli the world over. Opener 'Forget About You' sets the tone for the pair's home-recorded masterpiece, on which the lead singer's voice takes raspy centre stage. Regret seems to be the central theme, peronalising our collective suffering:

The album is full of catchy hooks, smooth vocals, funky guitars and synths that evoke the likes of Nile Rodgers, Jungle and L'imperatrice. The lyrics are playful and sensual, exploring themes of love, lust and connection. Highlights are the slo-mo opener 'Music' with its infectious vocoder, 'Falling For You', a collaboration with MC Roki that explores deep bass-driven territory and 'Fly, Goodbye', a bittersweet and nostalgic track with sensual neon-lit aesthetics.

Of the title, Daniel explained it's an actual question proposed to him which has become a mantra of sorts, with the album created as a way to imagine possible musical responses to her question. Created during Covid lockdowns, Daniel recruited a virtual disco band from friends across the world and traversing many genres such as disco, minimalism, ambient, shoegaze and jazz, then pieced together in his Baltimore studio. Guests include Turkish arranger Ulas Kurugullu, Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xu, Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes), Brooklyn techno artist Rose E Kross and Daniel Clark.

Supernova, officially their debut album, marks the Brooklyn combo's first appearance on vinyl. The sounds they showcase are warm, positive sounding and groovy, recalling the work of fellow New York outfits Holy Ghost, Escort and Midnight Magic - albeit with their own synthesiser-embracing twist. It guarantees great listening throughout, with our picks including 'Protostar', the more bluesy indie disco flex of 'Supernova', the dub disco-flecked joy of 'Play To Lose' and the deliciously slow, dreamy and spacey 'Right Place/Right Time'.

Review: Second time around for Francesca Macri's first outing as System Olympia, which originally landed in stores back in 2017. This time round, she's expanded it from eight tracks to six, adding a couple more unheard and unreleased cuts from the period to the enticing bvlend of original productions, pitched-down reworks and sneaky re-edits. Beginning with the pitched-down electrofunk of 'Call Girl' (a tweak of a little-known Danny Boy tune), Macri ambles her way through synth-and-drum machine heavy cuts that variously touch on Italo-disco, leftfield '80s synth-pop, new wave, Balearic pop (see 'Close to My Nebula'), dreamy electro and slow-motion excellence. Atmospheric, synth-powered and full of playable cuts, it's a fine EP all told.

Review: NTS Radio host Francesca Macri aka System Olympia presents her second full-length album titled Racing Heart, a neon-lit soundtrack for an evening drive in a Mercedes Benz that she's released on her Okay Nature imprint. Highlights are the sensual, late-night boogie-down vibe of 'All Mine Now', the slo-mo synthwave of 'Link Of Truth' and the saccaharine '80s pop aesthetic of 'War Of The Hearts' could have been in a John Hughes film.

Review: System Olympia has been back and digging in the archives for this superb new and limited album, the New Erotica Collection (Durante Edition). It features some of their past tunes that have been sold out in quick fashion because of limited runs and others that have actually never before been available on vinyl. As you will know, or as you will find out, these are hallucinogenic tunes with mixes of disco, new wave, 80s pop, instrumental and nu-disco influences and each of them will light up any dancefloor with plenty of provocative and erotic undertones - just look at the cover!
