Nightlights In Japan (remix dance version) (6:19)
Nightlights In Japan (single version) (3:38)
Nightlights In Japan (Maxi instrumental version) (5:08)
Review: Galvanica's 'Nightlights In Japan' dropped in 1987 and was a perfectly dreamy post-rave comedown soundtrack with heavenly pads and angelic whispered vocals. It came with various different remixes that repurposed it for different moments. The remix dance version is more driven by classic and crunchy analogue 80s drums with tumbling melodies and plenty of feelings of subtle euphoria. The single version tweaks that just a touch and the maxi instrumental turns up the drums and strips out the vocals for something more rock and club-ready. Tip!

Life Is A Mirror (version) (9:18)
Review: Galxtc take us back to the prime era of Brit funk here with a super slick new single for the young Space Grapes label. 'Life Is A Mirror' is an eleven minute workout which really uses the long playing time to take you on a trip. It's got a loose rhythm section with tight drum work, a peppering of percussion and darting synths that are cosmic and funky from the off. Building up a fine head of steam it gets ever more intense and fabulous with various different chapters all taken care of by a range of leads. The dub and version complete this fine maxi single.

The Cool The Hip & The Square (5:26)
Bring Them Back Together (6:38)
Review: For the first release on their Ghetto Disco imprint, Edinburgh-based daughter-and-father duo Natasha and Dennis Probert has turned to the cheekily named Serge Gamesbourg. Having already impressed via contributions to Rahaan's Street Edits series, monsieur Gamesbourg is sure to enhance his reputation further with these two reworks. "The Cool, The Hip & The Square" sees him reworking the track that initially inspired the label, extending, chopping and rearranging the killer disco original in all the right places. Arguably even better, though, is the B-side sensuality of "Bring Them Back Together", a glassy-eyed rework of a Philly soul gem that's as sultry as the come.

Review: David Garcet (half of Pink Slow Motel) is returning with this ultimate beauty. "Redemption" is a sublime trance induced dancefloor rumbler, already causing quite a stir. Furthermore, "Redemption" has been tweaked to the maximum by The Revolving Eyes (aka Rob'n' Zoopsie), Belgian's prime Italo movers. Here they churn out an absolutely fantastic Italo monster, comprising Moroder basslines and eerie noises to maximum effect. On top of that there is a wicked dubbed out tech-house version by none other than Mister J (from Missive fame), who goes deep in this dub fest.

This single was first put out in 1977 on 20th Century Records by singer and guitarist Beloyd. It's a life-affirming cut that has unsurprisingly been a perennial classic at soul weekenders for many a year. Now it gets some sympathetic touch-up work by the man, the legend Tom Moulton to take it to the next level.

Dee Dee Sharp - "Hot Fun" (unreleased version)
Review: Arguably one of the first ever dubplate labels, Sunshine Sound was home to limited runs of DJ-friendly versions throughout the 70s and early 80s. Most are long gone, but the "Unreleased Version" series continues to unearth the existing gems. Having previously dusted off a very special version of Candido, they return with three more exclusive rubs; a super-slinky boogie take of Taana Gardner's 1979 "Paradise Express", a thriving, drum-heavy take on the lolloping bass jam "Loosen Up" and the piano-slapping strutting "Hot Fun" where Dee Dee Sharp's vocals provide the ultimate sensuous showdown. As limited as the original acetate presses, this needs urgent attention.

Review: Dark Entries are masters of Italo reissues and they have a number of them dropping at the moment. This one is of Garland's 'Heartbeat' which comes original from 1986. It is a true dancefloor gem that bares all the hallmarks of the era that still remain so loved today. Claudio Corradini produced it with Massimo Filippi and Art Deco singer and songwriter Claudio Valenti used this project for his more club ready sounds. 'Heartbeat' (song version) is a mid tempo tune with sleek staccato bass and a sing-along-worthy chorus that echoes Bronski Beat. The Dance Version is extended for DJs. A postcard with lyrics and liner notes is also included.

Review: Gary's Gang - 'Let's Lovedance Tonight' originally came in 1979 and is the source of a well known, international dance music hit. It's a gloriously upbeat bit of disco that got an edit from the master that is Danny Krivt back in 207. He took that monster break, and cleverly extended and looped it for nearly six superb minutes, and the result is infectious as the organic perc and rumbling drums constantly make you move. Here reissued on translucent red wax, it is a surefire party starter with cosmic rays of disco brilliance shooting through it for above.

Make It Or Break It (Nu Disco mix) (7:38)
Review: You probably weren't expecting the return of Gary's Gang, but the much-loved disco group are back after a prolonged absence with a new single. Produced by Eric Matthew (aka Joe Tucci), the OG co-founder of the band alongside Gary Turnier, this is a legitimate contemporary update on the Gary's Gang sound. 'Make It Or Break It' is bright and cheery, led by sweet vocals and with a crossover instinct which carried the band to such success in their late 70s heyday. For those who just want the groove, the 'Dub Mix' on the flip should give you plenty to work with, while the 'Nu Disco Mix' gives everything a nip and tuck for the more minimally-minded modern dancefloor.

Les Dance (Jean Claude Gavri 2017 dub edit) (6:35)
Review: Over the last few years, Israeli producer Jean-Claude Gavri has reworked all manner of vintage dancefloor treats, often delivering brilliantly percussive or subtly tooled-up reinterpretations. This time round, he's working his magic on David Bowie's 1983 classic "Let's Dance". Interestingly, it sounds like Gavri had access to the master tapes during the remixing process, because the A-side remix is a wonderfully dubbed-out, synth-laden interpretation that sounds like a cross between the work of The Reflex and the Idjut Boys. The flipside Dub Edit is pretty tasty, too, and naturally concentrates more on both the rolling percussion and killer synth bassline.

Review: Two golden edits with no chin stroking required thanks to the EBO label! Tel Aviv's Jean Claude Gavri does the business on Michael Jackson's "Rock With You", making lavish extensions in all the right places. Dimitri From Astoria (any relation to namesakes from Paris and Blackpool?) follows suit with an equally impressive twist on the Franki Valli classic from Greece. Both already tried and tested floor-jammers since the 70s, these updates do the originals some serious justice.

Review: The EBO label returns with Seaside Edits don Jean Claude Gavri sharing sides on a 12" with Italian contemporary Moplen that's slightly too vitamin D-infused in tone for the Winter months but will nice up any left leaning discotheque. Any self respecting disco scholar should have no issues IDing the source material here, Gavri taking on the Carly Simon classic "Why" and adding subtle Caribbean disco vibes to proceedings and occasionally dipping into the filters on this extended groove rendition. On the flip "The Riddum Slave" sees Luca Locatelli work similar magic, filling the Grace Jones cut of the near same name with all manner of dub fx, neat loops and hot breaks.

Review: A steel drum band cover of the JB's "Hot Pants Road"... Does this description need any more hype than that? Not really. But just in case, the Gay Philadelphians are a group from Trinidad & Tobago. They only ever released one album and these are two of the highlights. One storming cover and one steam-powered original. "Jo Jo Lo" is a shimmering slice of harmonics with an infectious hook and wonderful inclusion of chants towards the finale. Stunning stuff.

Review: G. D. & The Big J's 'Movin' On' is a primo funk, disco and boogie melange that has been heating up global dance floors ever since it was first released in 1980. It is a much sought-after jam which, if you can even find an original copy, will cost you upwards of three figures. 'Movie On' is seamless and smooth, a brilliant and vibrant mix of busy guitar riffs, and claps and upbeat drums that come with a lively vocal that says to the heavens with effortless soul. It sounds like basically the same tune is included on both sides you so never have to worry about this one wearing out - which it could well do given how often you will be playing it.

Review: Love Monk present a second round of remixes to accompany Gecko Turner's third album, Gone Down South, released last year to critical acclaim. First up is Claremont 56 boss Mudd who takes the pleasant Caribbean lilt of "You Can't Own Me" and transforms it into a slice of superb slomo house. Tingling chords, intricate drum programming and warm swathes of bass draw you in before Mudd fully unleashes the Turner vocal. On the flip, Tru Thoughts mainstay Natural Self adds more than a smidgen of dusted funk to the hip-hop leaning "When I Woke Up". Instrumental versions of both tracks are included for those wanting to fully appreciate the remixers art.

Review: We're not sure who GeeW is but since 2021 they have served up three super fusion EPs, one on Ten Lovers Music and two on Colin Curtis Presents, which is where they return now for the third time. Their Deeper Than Black EP is a magic one that draws on all forms of jazz, soul, Latin, bossa, funk and house to cook up broken beat explorations doused in sunshine and with one eye on the stars. The title cut is a lively and vibrant jam with layers of percussion and mad Rhodes jams, 'Alzira Vida' is a little more chill but no less expertly arranged and 'Ocean Drive' then gets more dance with its prickly broken beats and lush horns. 'Difi The Hifi' is high-paced fusion brilliance.

Review: Plenty of class defines these cuts on Colin Curtis Presents. GEEW is the original artist behind tw of them: 'Bruk Free' is the first and arrives as a vibrant fusion of fleshy synth bass and broken beats with bright chords and florid sax notes. The other is 'Necesitas Esto' (instrumental) which is another sun-worshipping bit of freeform synth jazz-funk. The SLW Geemix is a little more club-ready with some classic Nina Simone vocals re-sung in soulful fashion. Last of all is 'Pachanga' (Be On Di Geemix) which has a cosmic feel in the inquisitive, pixel-thin synth leads.

Geist scholars will know Super dropped a few months before he and Darshan Jesrani put out the fourth Metro Area 12" featuring the seminal "Miura" and they'll also tell you the three tracks on this solo single from the New Jersey native sound just as fresh some 15 years on! Super is also notable for guest appearances from the Kelley Polar Quartet, who contributed live strings to "24k" and went on to release several records through Environ, whilst "Lullaby" features trumpet from New York's James Duncan, recently seen lighting up West Norwood Cassette Library. Review: In 2001, Environ boss Morgan Geist took a solo break from Metro Area with a hot new 12" and the Super EP. Inspired by classic techno and house with a heavy dose of dramatic disco, Geist melds the organic sounds of Metro Area with his own innovative style on this EP, incorporating live instrumentation with a funky, machine groove. The A-side cut "24K" melds an old-is-gold DMX house drum track with lush basslines and live string sugar from the Kelley Polar Quartet. On the flip, "Sleaze" takes the dancers into a sweaty mix of new wave chords and stabs (think New Order's Blue Monday or Prelude's more robotic releases) mixed with organic electric piano and dubs. The EP rounds out with "Lullaby" - a melancholy jam that melds Kraftwerk with Candido, jamming numbers beats under delicate chords and a sublime trumpet solo courtesy of jazz virtuoso and house producer James Duncan.

This 12" for Skint is something of a curveball, and sees them serve up a range of exotic, intoxicating concoctions. Lead track "Thessali Noir" layers haunting, Arabic style vocal samples and Persian instrumentation atop a druggy, post-disco groove (a fine, bleep-heavy, acid-flecked Justin Robertson Deadstock 33 remix is also included). On the B, you'll find the Acid Arab-inspired spookiness of "Experienced", and the trippy, dark Italo-disco workout "Say It".

This artist, born Andras Genser, is an accomplished composer and producer who crafts music and soundscapes for film and television, and he brings plenty of that story telling musical narrative to the tracks here. The title track is a freewheeling and celestial disco bouncer with magic arps. 'Humble Brush' has acid lines and more banging house drums but still an intergalactic sense of travel and 'The Great Body Buzz' traps you in fuzzy, fizzing loops of disco-tech. A Decius remix brings a different vibe.

On the flip is something with more kick - 'Funky' has big horn energy and more snappy disco drums and lively leads that get you on your toes in no time.

Georgette - "Kyrie" (3:25)
Claudia - "Com Mais De 30" (2:45)
Review: Picking up where release 25 left us, Mr Bongo's Brazil 45s series continues to focus on the females for this beautiful double-up. Georgette's "Kirie" is an overwhelming ballad that grows so naturally and subtly from her naked tones and guitar to a much broader picture with rich, warm backing harmonies and soft strings in the background. Claudia's "Com Mais De 30", meanwhile, was way ahead of its time (1971). With its fuzzy guitars, walloping groove and bold dynamic switches, it's no surprise that Fourtet and Floating Points have championed this pretty hard over the years.

Body To Body (7:42)
African Love Song (6:43)
Review: Italian singer and songwriter Giampiero Scalamonga had a successful run as a disco hitmaker through the 70s, and his crowning glory was surely the Body To Body LP released in 1979. Now Best Records have turned back the clock to disco's golden hour to reissue the Gepy & Gepy classic on pristine wax. While the A-side title track is a timeless gem on its own, it's the impassioned club burner "African Love Song" that will have the diggers rejoicing. From its days as a staple in Studio 54 it's been a sought after gem, and now it's back in circulation for those that know.

Valeria - "Pe Na Estrada" (Mendel edit) (3:36)
Review: Notes on A Journey kicks off their new self titled NOAJ edit series here with edits of two tunes from each of Germannu and Valeria. Making those careful edits are real scene mainstays - Delfonic is first and is the man behind the much loved Berlin store OYE Records so has a vast knowledge of what sells and what works well on the dancefloor. He offers a super cool and breezy version of the lush Latin tune 'Fale De Mim' and a more percussive and bumping take on 'Marcacao.' Acclaimed DJ and tasteful selector Mendel then offer this own versions which are just as summery, feel good and life affirming gems for floors who like real music.

Wearing Her Black Boots Again (4:22)
Make Time (6:29)
Detective From Kamakura (4:19)
Review: Russian DJ/producer Phil Gerus has been around for a few years, but it's only in the last couple that his reputation has begun to build. This outing on Tensnake's True Romance label follows on from a fine 12" for Lumberjacks Boogie imprint, and a digital-only electrofunk exploration on Futureboogie. The real stunner is A-side "Wearing Her Black Boots Again", a thrusting, Italo-disco exploration full of dirty synth arpeggios, delay-laden percussion hits and rubbery, punk-funk bass. On the flip you'll find the sax-laden, AOR disco shuffle of "Make Time" - blessed as it is with some great blue-eyed soul vocal samples - and the sweaty, drum-machine heavy P-funk rearrangement "Detective From Kamakura".

Naha Swim (4:13)
Kiss Of A Kind (2:29)
Review: Eugene "Eug" Wang's San Francisco label Public Release is back, following up some great editions by the likes of local hero Bezier, the imitable Mark E and Let's Play House main man Jacques Renault. This time around it's over to Russian producer Phil Gerus; who over the years has appeared everywhere from Sonar Kollektiv and Futureboogie to even ManMakeMusic. The Scenes EP starts out on the A side with the sexy boogie down vibe of "Ohashi Sky Garden" which afterwards gets an absolutely electric remix by London based retrovert Richard Sen. On the flip, the retro, neon-lit aesthetics continue on the funk hoedown of "Naha Swim" while the slow motion romance of "Kiss Of A Kind" features one absolutely roaring sax solo over some sweet FM synths and tape hiss; nice one.

Feel The Fire
Play With You
Review: Get Down Edits continues to hold the crown as one of the most prolific editors with two more essential nu-disco funk jams. "Feel The Fire" is a cosmic, spaced out take on The Osmonds' "I,I,I" while "Play With You" turbo charges Carrie Lucas with an uptempo glitter-sprinkled groove with full emphasis on the tight, bright guitar riff. Both, like all his previous editions, rock. Get down tonight!

Review: Burning Sole sure will have those soles bring with this new 7" from The Getups. Here the band serve up one of their super powerful house funk takes on the hit pop single by Fitz and the Tantrums. The way was guitar twists and turns, the urgent drums hammer away and the warm, funky bass ties it all together. Flip it over for a high speed cop-chase theme from the 60's. 'The Big Noise' is just that. This one is super limited with just 100 copies each on either purple or black vinyl.
