Nomalizo (5:10)
Kilimanjaro Take Us Higher (5:03)
Review: This priceless double-header brings together two timeless gems from South African music icon Letta Mbulu. On one side, the afro-electro boogie cult classic 'Nomalizo', a favourite among diggers and refined selectors alike, with its honeyed vocals, salty synth work and languid rhythms. On the other, there's 'Kilimanjaro Takes Us Higher', an uplifting, up-tempo dancefloor anthem radiating optimism with soul-drenched vocals, funk bass, disco strings and agile keys. Released together as a single for the first time, these sought-after tracks have been embraced across countless scenes for decades. Nothing short of essential.

Review: Super Disco Edits close down their special series of releases from the brother and sister duo of Eryk and Antoinette McClinton with another four-track pearler. The pair recorded with venerated Detroit legends Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey in around 1979 and they came at a time when they were trying to break the big time. They had already released on Honey Records and here bring plenty of funky influxes to their big disco beats. All four have some fine breakdowns and the final tune, with its 2 step beats, is a real standout.

All This Love That I'm Givin' (3:53)
Maybe I'll Find Somebody New (3:25)
Review: For those of a certain age, Gwen McRae's "All This Love That I'm Givin" will always evoke memories of Cassius' French Touch classic "Feeling For You", which sampled it heavily. It remains a killer record in its' own right, though, as this timely reissue proves. Originally released in 1979, it sees McRae at her powerful best, delivering a potent message to an errant lover over a killer, low-slung disco-funk groove. It's one of the tracks that should really be in any discerning funk, soul or disco DJ's collection. Flip for original B-side "Maybe I'll Find Somebody New", a breezier chunk of laidback soul with a slightly Southern lilt. It's good, but pales into insignificance compared to the brilliant 'A' side.

Review: Legendary Miami songstress Gwen McCrae had plenty of huge hits in her arsenal, from '90% Of Me Is You' to 'It's Worth The Hurt.' Her biggest tune by far is the enduring classic and sure fire dance floor heater 'Keep The Fire Burning.' The strident disco funk beats, the soaring vocal and the impossible warmth and soul of it all never fail to make a mark. Here it is backed with the more slow and deep cut funk of 'Funky Sensation,' which gets those hips swinging and hands clapping.

Review: Dynamite Cuts' current reissuing efforts once more focus on the legacy of the classic library label De Wolfe Music, this time selecting three choice songs from Frank McDonald and Chris Rea, two esteemed musicians who together debuted these cuts while forming a part of the in-house De Wolfe label ensemble, Patchwork. All three numbers are nighttime alleyway slinkers, recalling, in their finger-snapping funk palette, a slick combo of flared trousers, leather jackets, sunshaded visages and strange bumps in the night.

I'll Do Anything For You (2:54)
Review: This hugely in demand modern soul masterpiece gets a special 40th anniversary reissue thanks to the Selector Series label. Originally released on New Jersey's Debbie Records in 1981, the label has dug into the archives to find a boogie-tactic reworking on a classic standard from The Carpenters. Often seen listed for over L400 on second hand markets, it is a serious collector's piece. It's been reissued as part of various albums over the years but never on a slick 45rpm like this. It comes with original artwork and will have any dance floors in a spin.

Review: Once more unearthing a rare and classic electro funk piece, Candy McKenzie's 'Remind Me' gets a proper 12" reissue, homing in on her classic cover of the Patrice Rushen original. Chugging, slick and wacky, McKenzie's vocals glisten and flit over a raw electro beat, heralding offbeat and Texan funk guitar, electrics and basses alike. Review: Whiskey Disco #74 marks a return to classic form for this long-running and consistently-worth-checking label. Following Michael The Lion's impressive single, the label now offers a collection of expertly sampled tracks tailored for summer fun. The A side features a hidden gem from Cole Medina which is finally making its debut on the label. This track is set to elevate rooftop parties, poolside gatherings, or any high-energy event while the flip side comes from Love Athletics wh delivers 'All of My Love,' a vibrant track with a cheeky vocal sample, driving bass groove, and nods to 'Sex Shooter.' The release concludes with Sleazy McQueen's analogue madness which blends pulsating drums and hypnotic grooves with a surprising twist.

He is one man who plays flute, guitar, keyboard, pads, drums, percussions and violin and lays down each part of the tune and then puts them all together with some extra studio touches at a later date. He mixes the music himself so that it is live sounding and vibrant, and then shares it with the world. These latest two cuts are heavy Afrobeat gems with cosmic synth work, psyched-out melodies and jazz invention that makes them captivating in the extreme.

Review: Classic alert! This sure-fire party starter is a timeless gem by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes originally released in 1973. It features the powerful vocals of Teddy Pendergrass and is a heartfelt expression of regret and longing over a lost love. With its upbeat tempo and lush orchestration it marked a significant shift in soul music as it blended traditional r&b with the emerging disco sound. It's built on an infectious groove with soulful harmonies and emotive lyrics which will always resonate with audiences and that is why it was such a chart-topping hit back in the day that remains a defining moment in the group's career and a timeless anthem of love and loss. It is backed here with the equally catchy 'Wake Up Everybody.'

Bad Luck (Tom Moulton mix) (7:59)
Don't Leave Me This Way (Tom Moulton mix) (11:01)
Review: This release features two of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes' recordings that typify the cream of Philadelphia International and Sigma Sound studios' dominance of the dancefloor - at the absolute height of their creativity and power. They were one of the most popular groups on Gamble & Huff's label, clocking up a number of hits in the mid 1970's. "Bad Luck" spent 11 weeks on the No.1 slot on Billboard's U.S. Dance chart in 1975 and has since become one of the biggest dancefloor staples ever recorded. It gets a remix by the master Tom Moulton for added club dynamics. On the flip, we have the original full version of the classic "Don't Leave Me This Way" which is also mixed to perfection by Moulton. Both are state of the art lessons in what exhilarating dance music is all about. Fully remastered on limited edition 180 gram heavyweight vinyl.

Review: The Messin About crew are back once again to show they have made a fine art of arsing about. This 7" offers up two more rarities that have never before made it to vinyl but very much deserve to have done. First up they offer the lush and soulful US disco of Golden Flamingo Orchestra's 'The Guardian Angel' which will warm through any wintery dancefloor. Review: Please welcome new LA Afrofunk troupe Mestizo Beat. Previously known as Soulfire Collective, this debut 45 marks a clear line in the sand and an exciting future. Sweaty, energetic, tightly woven instrumentals we kick off with "Featherbed Lane", a boogie-based jam with spiralling sax leads and a guitar solo so hot you could cook a banquet on it. Atmosphrique (7:13)

Review: Has there ever been a more significant nu-disco release than Metro Area's 1999 debut? It was certainly an outlier on its original release in 1999 and inspired countless others to attempt (and usually fail) to follow in their footsteps. All these years on, it still sounds fantastic - as this remastered reissue proves. Opener 'Atmospherique' effectively defined their timeless, NYC-inspired sound - think the warmth of deep house mixed with spacey synths, disco percussion and squelchy bass - while the subtly Latin-tinged 'Pina' sounds every bit as incredible in 2023 as it did at the turn of the Millennium. 'Rainy Street Feeling', which didn't make the cut on their celebrated debut album, is a real treat, too - a classy hybrid of loose-limbed deep house, sultry strings and nu-disco electronics that's worth the admission fee on its own.

TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia) (Special 12' version) (5:49)
Review: MFSB was an American studio band formed by producers of the Philadelphia International Records label. The label was founded in 1971 by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff in Philadelphia. This is an official 12 inch re-release of probably the most revered Paradise Garage anthem of all time. Originally released in 1973, "Love Is The Message" has sustained dancefloors across the world ever since and here Prime present the full original mix from the master himself: Tom Moulton, which is very rare, as any seasoned digger could attest to. On the flip is "T.S.O.P. (The Sound Of Philadelphia)" aka the official Soul Train theme, again using Moulton's original mix.

MFSB - "Love Is The Message" (feat The Three Degrees - Mike Maurro remix) (11:07)
The O'Jays - "Message In Our Music" (Mike Maurro remix) (11:10)
Review: Disco mixer Mike Muarro has been delivering tasteful, multi-track remixes of disco and soul classics for the last couple of years, and earlier in 2021 delivered a digital-only set of revisions of classic cuts from the Philadelphia International catalogue. This must-check 12" contains two of the most potent reworks from that set. On the A-side you'll find his epic, beautifully executed revision of MFSB's brilliant 'Love is the Message', which features rearranged elements and Tom Moulton style builds, drop outs and instrument solos. He takes a similar approach on the flip, wringing maximum energy and release from the O'Jays 'Message In Our Music' without adding any unnecessary instrumentation. If you're a fan of the Rephlex and Moplen's multi-track revisions, you'll love both remixes.

Review: MIA's latest single, Crime of Passion, picks up where her last hit left off, delivering another dose of sultry funk with producer Gil Masuda. With deep bass and a groovy vibe, MIA's silky voice weaves a tale of compassion and desire over an up-tempo 80s-tinged boogie beat. The track's infectious energy is sure to get listeners on the dance floor, with lyrics like "Am I your shining diamond, baby, kryptonite?" enticing them further. On the flip side, 'Love Bug' offers a chill roller skating jam with lush Rhodes chords and warm synth tones, perfect for anyone who's ever been in love. Released on Love Touch Records, this single hints at the possibility of a long-awaited debut album from MIA in the near future.

It is a cult boogie and disco blend from Robbie M and The Midnight Express show band that originally hails from Rock Island in Illinois. It includes the hip-swinging and funky 'Danger Zone' (remix) plus a more paired back instrumental version and the original which is chunky, funky, and full of playful horns. The Indonesian outfit's latest release, 'Nusantra Tropic Disco Volume 1', is arguably one of its' strongest yet. Rich in vintage 1970s synth sounds, tropical colour and live grooves that variously draw on disco, jazz-funk and library music, it feels fresh and exciting despite its nostalgic inspirations and authentic period instrumentation. Highlights include, but are no way limited to, vibrant and percussive disco opener 'Kaliuga', the spacey and warming 'Ratna and Galih' and soaring, future peak-time Indonesian disco anthem 'Kasih Bersemi'.

It was recorded at an in-store live performance at German store Groove City live December and comes complete with atmospheric crowd noise and a raw, heavyweight sound that only enhances the band's live credentials. Review: A serious piece of soul sampling history right here. "Evil Vibrations" is instantly recognisable thanks to De La Soul's "A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays". Fast-paced boogie blessed with swooping sugar harmonies, it still sounds as smooth as it did when originally released in 78. Touching stargazing ballad "The Star Children" was even more popular with the hip-hop set scoring cameos on cuts by both RZA and Mobb Deep. Both cuts are taken from the album Help Us Spread The Message. Criminally it's their only LP!

Review: Athens of The North delivers once again here with another delightful reissue of a soul classic by Bernetia Miller And The Soul Groovers. An original of this Georgian gem is insanely rare and in fact the Athens boss himself has never actually seen a copy. It was recorded in the studio of Phil Walden's studio in Macon, Georgia and Bernetia herself has said it took many takes and plenty of hard work to get the result they wanted. Backing band The Soul Groovers had their own bus on which they toured plenty and this reissue is from the master tapes owned by Bernetia. 'You Can Tell Me Goodbye' has lo-fi drums and raw horns with a yearning vocal while 'I've Gotta Keep On Lovin' You' is more slow and steady and emotionally moving with a more tender vocal.

Very little about Miller is known, save for her involvement in the label run by Peter Brown, on which just two records were ever released. Sugar Free (dub) (4:42)
Review: Descendant, minor key seduction-funk from Miracle Thomas, whose sucrose and fructose levels are indeed incredibly low. A-sider 'Sugar Free' is a remake of Jarry Barnes and Katreese Barnes' brother-sister duet of the same name, which they made under the name Juicy, in turn a "response record" to Mtume's 1985 hit 'Juicy Fruit'. Miracle's miraculous new version brings the original 1985 number a heck of a long way, effectively conveying the newfound, cold-turkey loneliness felt during the day, presumably post-breakup. The dub on the B is a rare disco-funk-dub version too, perfect for those DJs preferring to segue into the more cosmic outer reaches of things.

Review: Roll up here for some super catchy jazz-funk and textbook Italo-funk goodness from Mirko. This reissued version of the original and cult classic has been fully restored from the original source thanks to Erezioni. It's a glorious early electronic cut from south Italian-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Mario Rosini that dropped back in the 80s and has been the holy grail for many ever since. It has lovely analogue textures next to soothing vocal coos and withering synths that all brim and bubble with funk and soul.

Moving (Driver mix) (3:11)
Moving (Move It Again mix) (3:01)
Review: First released in Austria way back in 1986, Miss D's sole single, 'Moving', has long been an in-demand item on the dusty-fingered 'selector' scene. Listening to this much-needed reissue, it's easy to see why. In its' A-side 'driver mix' form, the track sees the mysterious Miss D deliver rhythmical spoken word verses over a rubbery electro-funk beat, killer synth bass and some Balearic-leaning melodies. Throw in a catchy (male) chorus, and you have a genuine winner. The flip side 'Move It Again' mix' is a dub mix-style affair that dispels with most of the vocals and instead focuses on the killer groove, mid-80s sample cut-ups, scratching sounds and some suitably spaced-out effects.

Expansions (4:14)
Ghetto Passion (4:06)
Review: Deified disco editor Mister Mushi breaks from his own Mushi 45s faction for a diplomatic dance-over with fellow sonic saucerers Disco Donuts, whose third volume in a series hammers home two more spacey soma-uplifts. 'Expansions' of course jazz-funk clarion call 'Expansions' by Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes, whose importuning "expand your mind" motif will never leave us. And of course, there's 'Ghetto Passion', an unknown remix to us, yet whose beats are so punctual that they could pop an iron ballon; this is a raw, clear and seething analogue sound, a style which many disco artists have tried to emulate since.

Once In A Remix (3:43)
Review: Funk editor Mister Mushi finalises the latest fleet-dispatch by the eponymous factory known as Mushi 45. All housed on a distinctive yellow, large-innered 7" record (you know, the you need the metal spindle adapter for), every release on this label is a charm. Here the dotted line marks out a well-defined classic by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock from 1998, 'It Takes Two', which in turn samples Lynn Collins' 'Think', after which this reissue is named and from which the now rather saturated vocal sample originates. James Brown's original production and backing "c'mon!" admonitions shine brightly, while Mushi's extra phattenings also serve to emphasise the mix without peaking it.

West Coast Poplock (Mister Mushi remix part 1) (4:20)
West Coast Poplock (Mister Mushi remix part 2) (4:17)
Review: Disco Donuts strike back with a back-to-back pose in the vein of pivotal disco-funk remixing from local edits master Mister Mushi. Once an out-letter of releases on his own Mushi 45 imprint, through which we heard many another reissue by the likes of Afro Breed and The Ethiopian Brothers, this second of two new migrations over to the Disco Donuts label proves a versatile sound and approach to his craft. The A-sider here features a mechanically reproducible instrumental version of Chic's 'Good Times' mashed up with Ronnie Hudson's 'West Coast Poplock', providing equal doses of freshness and reconnaissance.
