Alex Agore - "What Did I Do" (Lowtone remix))
Max Chapman - "Breakdown"
Oleg Poliakov - "Windy Thoughts"
Mutenoise - "Jazzve"
Review: All that jelly and no toast - like when you find a bomb tune that's unavailable on 12". The new sublabel of Smile for a While is exactly about this. Clubby House Music by well-established producers as well as from lesser-known guys. French guy Alex Agore opens the EP with the Lowtone remix of "What Did I Do" - cut-up Garage House to the maxx. Max Chapman from London delivers another belter; a bassline-driven organ House tune with a minimalistic but very effective set-up. Oleg Poliakov - aka SKAT and one of the guys behind Circus Company - comes up with a sublime but powerful Tech House tune, in the original sense of the genre name. "Jazzve" is a tune by Russian producer Mutenoise. It's maybe the most original, innovative tune on this EP. Full of surprises and cutting-edge elements - hard to compare to anything else around these days.

We Call Love (DJ Harvey remix)
Review: Art Department and Crosstown Rebels seem to have taken the house world by storm in the last two years. Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White's "We Call Love" has been picked apart carefully put back together again by the legendary Balearic beardo DJ Harvey for a limited one sided, hand stamped, hand numbered white label. Slow burning and downtempo, "We Call Love" plays with the original's raw electric guitar melodies, piercing key sequences and chopped vocal snippets. Sensual and lethargically bouncy, it's a late night house track made in typical modern and blase style from the CR camp. Be quick!

Review: ....Ultra deepness once again from the deepArtSounds camp this week. The Never Enough EP is a various artists release curated by the Swiss imprint, featuring the emotively melancholic feelings of Benklawk & Mabutana's 'Dance' (feat Tshepo King) channeling that Prescription Records vibe of old, while Maltese duo Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana get an icy and cavernous dubwise style on 'The Drums'. Over on the flip, Tominori Hosoya serves up some sublime technosoul on 'Rodeo Drive' and Manuel Costela's stunning 'Remember Your Love' is real proper deep stuff - tip!

Big Strick - "Family Affair" (feat Omar S)
Genereation Next - "Windsor Nights"
Reckless Ron Cook - "Night Moves"
Big Strick - "Armed & Dangerous"
Review: Leonard "Big Strick" Strickland is perhaps best known for his family ties with Omar-S (they're cousins), though his productions are well worthy of praise in their own right. Here, he offers up a sampler 12" featuring cuts from his recent (and excellent) Reservoir Dogs LP. Perhaps the most noteworthy cut is "Family Affair", a lovingly constructed chunk of hypnotic, melodic deepness written with Omar-S. That said, Strick's solo effort "Armed & Dangerous" - a winding chunk of voodoo techno - is arguably better. The mazy techno-funk of Reckless Ron Cook's "Night Moves" is also outstanding.

Hector Ram - "Morning Sun Vibes" (6:39)
Review: Short Attention has more than grabbed ours with its first two EPs and this third one keeps up that good early form. It's a heavy-hitting mix of pivotal house talents starting off with prolific Windy City player Boo Williams. The big man's 'Transformation' is a smooth and chord-laced house roller that has a more reflective vibe than his usual party-starting offerings. Atlanta don Kai Alce's 'Love Exists' is a heartfelt house romance then the long-time partnership of Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana douse us in star-gazing chords on 'Soul Expression' that leave you feeling refreshed. Hector Ram's 'Morning Sun Vibes' then uplifts with beautifully gentle piano chords.

Brighton - "Tesla" (Leaves remix) (7:21)
Orson Wells - "Ratio" (Roger 23 remix) (7:40)
Leaves - "Third Floor" (Pablo Mateo remix) (6:31)
Glyn - "Kevin Lomax" (Orson Wells remix) (5:39)
Review: Ron Wilson's 777 serves up more raw and rusty house jams on a new various artists sampler entitled Internal Affairs: this is serious! On the A side is newcomer Brighton with "Tesla" (Leaves Remix), while Frankfurt's Orson Wells gives us "Ratio" where Saarbruckens finest: Roger 23 gets on the remix and delivers a lush deep acid rendition this side of Tin Man. On the flip, Leaves returns with the impressive "Third Floor" getting an awesome remix by Pablo Mateo; working those drum computers to impressive effect as always. Finally, Orson Wells stays on too; working the nightshift on his remix for Glyn's "Kevin Lomax" and giving it a lo-fi, neon lit makeover that will appeal to retroverts dancing well into the morning at Robert Johnson next Sunday morning.

Alex Burkat - "Out2C" (6:04)
Savile & Jknochel - "Work" (5:57)
Ali Berger - "WKL" (7:10)
Olin - "Sup" (6:31)
Review: Promising new Chicago imprint follows up releases by the Windy City's own The Black Madonna and Toronto's Nautiluss. Label owner Alex Burkat serves up a nice drugged out minimal house affair for the afterhours on "Out2C", Savile and JKnonchel remain on a similar tip with "Work" with its rolling groove and its cut up rap vocals working a treat. Ali Berger channels the old school Chicago hard house vibes of DJ Rush and Cashmere on "AKL" sounding not too dissimilar from the latter's classic "Percolator." Also on the flip we're back on the trippy afterhours tech house tip with a honking melody that is totally infectious with Olin on "Sup".

Adam Pits - "Wind Tunnel" (5:07)
DJ Sports - "Needs Dub" (4:11)
Review: Needs' commendable charity drive continues to bring forth the goods, both in terms of good causes and world class club music. Rallying round in support of World Mental Health Day 2020, Shanti Celeste kicks the record off in style with the rapid fire, deep-diving workout 'Fantasma'. OCB keeps the pressure up with the psychotropic techno of 'RS3', while Michelle works up some delightfully freaky synths on playful jacker 'Aesthetic'. Bobby's 'Free Your Mind' is a 90s-tinged, full fat techno production indebted to Detroit, Peder Mannerfelt keeps things stripped and raw on 'Our Levels' and Yu Su weaves a beautiful tapestry of interweaving rhythms on 'Brittney'. Adam Pits' trippy techno sounds resplendent on 'Wind Tunnel' and DJ Sports completes the set with the inventive, dembow slanted funk of 'Needs Dub'.

Mellow Magic Worldwide Pt 2
Charlotte & Reinhard for WeCanDance - "To Be Free Again" (extended) (5:10)
Ollie Loudon - "LMT" (extended) (6:21)
Lily Ko - "Pure Rubber" (5:58)
Biancolato - "Resolution" (edit) (5:46)
Review: We're promised Mellow Magic and that's precisely what we get, across four tracks emerging from disparate corners of the globe but united in a common mission to provide beats that work on the more relaxed end of the dancefloor. Belgian duo Charlotte & Reinhard of Rheinzand fame kick things off with a slow motion Balearic version of a well known 80s MOR classic. Ollie Loudon's 'L.M.T.' finally makes it to vinyl after long being a secret weapon in Gratts' DJ sets, where handclaps and languid strumming meet a gentle but infectious groove. Flip it over for the more tracky affairs, as Japan's Lily Ko makes an impressive debut with 'Pure Rubber', an original mix of disco foundations and always snazzy but never showy 80s synth play. Melbourne's Biancolato finishes things off with understated deep house shuffling that adds just a touch jazzy keys and dreamy, wispy pads.

Derek Carr - "Existence Is Futile" (7:07)
Review: Classic techno flavours are the order of the day on mysterious new imprint Lunasa. A quartet of very impressive various artists feature on this EP here, which will no doubt appeal to all you retroverts out there. First up, Tbilisi-based Cobert (Partisan/Amazing Stories) delivers some killer sci-fi funk on " Ortsutshi", the much loved Riccardo (Imprints/Metropolita) gets on a wacky, heads-down electro tip on "Clone" and legend Derek Carr is on fine form as always on the evocative second wave Detroitism of "Existence Is Futile" which is just sublime! Great stuff and highly recommended for fans of Libertine, Art of Dark or Time Passages etc.

Roy Davis Jr - "All I Do"
Omar S - "Da Teys" (feat DJ B Len D)
Review: Omar S treats us to a second release in the space of a week, with a much deserved reissue of some 1996 Roy Davis Jnr rawness across the A Side. The Stevie Wonder classic "All I Do" gets chopped up, laid over a killer Chi town beat filled with instantly gratifying raw drum edits and augmented by some evil bass thumps. Relentlessly brilliant and sounds just as fresh some 14 years on. Echoing a current trend this side plays outwards from the inside groove. On the flip Omar S teams up with DJ B Len D for the bongo heavy deep groove of "Da Teys" a track that's characterised by melodic keys which increase with curveball drama as the track progresses.

Review: Perpetual Rhythms is already well-regarded as a bastion of quality amongst contemporary Chicago house labels, and now they've downright sealed the deal with this mammoth compilation from a stellar cast of local cats. There's too many to all list in detail here, so focusing on the highlights, Dcee leads things in with the tumbling cosmic jazz leanings of "Suavecito," Hakim Murphy teases with a spacious and daring exploration in the liminal zone between ambient and house, and Obsolete Music Technology gets invigorating with the bouncy "High Top Fade." Those tracks alone are enough to deserve your hard earned, but there's reams of other excellent forward-facing Windy City jams to sink your teeth into.

Stephane Attias - "Fairy Tales" (6:16)
Review: The Visions Recordigs (formarly known as Visions Inc) label has been defining its own grand of house music since inception in 1999. For this one the label draws on assured artistic talent from all over. Deenamic's 'Fear's manages to be a nice basement party jam but also oozes a sense of jazz-funk cool. Orlando Voorn again joins the dots between Europe and Detroit with the dancing keys and future techno soul of his magnificent 'In Deep Thoughts' and Tryezz builds the pressure on his steamy and late night 'Later Frequencies.' Stephane Attias's 'Fairy Tales' rounds out this limited 12" with more deep and misty eyed grooves for those who like it cosy and cuddly.

Politics Of Dancing - "LISA" (6:47)

REda DaRE - "Le Bien Aime" (6:51)
Review: Signature unleash their first limited EP of the year. And if you've been following their series so far, you'll know how special this is. First up, Djebali who's on fine form as always as he reminds us of the dark art of restraint by way of an ebbing/flowing pad that gently laps over a subtly mutating drum arrangement. Politics Of Dancing, meanwhile, put full focus on the drums, gradually unveiling elements such as a clipped vocal loop and filtered synths before whipping them away again. Flip for a straight up hip-wriggling jam from Okain before REda DaRE seals the deal with the effortlessly slinky "Le Bien Aime" which spirals into untold levels of funk on the breaks. Trust us, this won't stick around for long.

Octo Octa - "Beam Me Up" (Please take Me Away mix) (6:25)
Review: Before heading out on tour together earlier in the year, Eris Drew and Octo Octa dreamt up the idea of a joint release. Happily, Naive was only too happy to oblige. Drew handles the A-side, serving up two versions of bustling, Clavinet-sporting, breakbeat-driven joy "Hold Me" (the effervescent "T4T Embrace Mix" and a jaunty DJ tool style "Synth-a-pella") and the organ-laced deep breakbeat shuffle of "Trans Love Vibration". Over on Side B, HNYTRX and 100% Silk alumnus Octo Octa takes over, joining the dots between rave-era UK house and saucer-eyed early '90s U.S garage dubs on "Beam Me Up (To The Goddess Mix)", before re-imagining the track as a twinkling fusion of dream house bliss and bustling breakbeats on the arguably superior "Please Take Me Away Mix".

Driven by a relentless bassline and crisp, propulsive rhythms, the production is both punchy and atmospheric, striking a balance between grit and groove. Baxter's unmistakable vocal style adds depth and urgency, weaving seamlessly into Voorn's dynamic arrangement. There's an immediacy to the track that feels alive, capturing the spirit of dancefloor culture while paying homage to the genre's roots. This is a meeting of two titans, where history and innovation collide with thrilling results.

Endless (4:03)
Purple (4:04)
Review: Patrick Gibin has signed some terrific records to his Mother Tongue label, so it's no surprise to discover that the Italian imprint's first "45" is a bona fide stunner. It sees sometime Gustosa producer Gary Superfly join forces with Other Lands (AKA Gavin Sunderland, previously best known for his work as Fudge Fingaz) to offer up the kind of sumptuously warm, languid, loose, toasty and organic fare that can't quite decide whether it wants to be jazz-funk, modern boogie or especially hazy deep house. A-side "Endless" is particularly potent, with waves of kaleidoscopic synth sounds and twinkling Rhodes solos relaxing over a chunky bassline and head-nodding drums, though toastier and hazier flipside "Purple" is almost as good.

Review: The small but already well-formed Innate label offers up a superb split EP for its sixth outing. Gilbert opens up with 'Low Flying Objects', a widescreen and serene bit of synth-laden tendon with more than a hint of Motor City soul over the dusty drums. 'Unknown Entities' is a brain-cleansing and celestial electro-styled cut with dreamy pads and cinematic deepness. Bristol-born, Welsh-rooted Owain K then steps up to the flip with equally painterly sounds. 'Corona Borealis' pairs deep and rubbery bass with crisp electro drum patterns and far-sighted chords. 'New Horizon' then closes out with some delightfully dozy deep house that's laden with wispy chords and undulating bass.

Review: Following up last year's production with Baltimore techno legend Maurice Fulton on 'Jigoo', the next release on Gudu is the first of two songs by label boss Peggy Gou that she will release over the coming months. Her first single in over two years, it translates to 'Butterfly' and is another collaboration. This time with fellow Korean sensation OHHYUK who is the lead singer and guitarist in the band Hyukoh. 'Nabi' is a downtempo, pop-inflected number said to be inspired by '80s synth classics and '90s Korean songs that Gou's mother used to play at home during her childhood.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Gravity Graffiti has been doing great things with its series of split 12"s already, but now the Italian label goes one better for its tenth release with this mighty double pack of heavy hitters. First up is the ever-untouchable Yoshinori Hayashi, who gets as straight up as he possibly could with the freaky house burner "Dissociative." Telephones is feeling particularly dubbed out and groovy on "Kalimbalimbo", while DB.Source and Riccardo Schiro take things strung out and textural on "Montevago". Dynamo Dreesen is in rave mode for the pepped up and delightfully weird "Reactivate", leaving the final side to Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung's chugging "Tunnel Visjon" and the rubbery side swipes of Acidboychair's "The End (At Any Speed)".

Automatic Night
Outerspace Drive
Review: Given that Luke Hess has previously appeared on Omar-S's FXHE label, it was probably only a matter of time before the latter appeared on the former's Deep Labs imprint. While the two producers' styles are notably different - Omar-S largely offers a house head's take on the trademark Detroit sound, while Hess is more interested in Motor City techno - they share a love of machine soul. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that this two-tracker is really rather good. The real killer is "Outerspace Drive", an enveloping and uplifting chunk of Detroit futurism layered with sublime sci-fi synths, hissing percussion and cascading chords. That said, the deeper, more hypnotic "Automatic Night" - a kind of purist tech-house exercusion - is pretty darn tasty, too.

Kid Mark kicks off with 'Need U' which is a big-hearted jam with full-throttle vocals and hefty house drums. Chris Fry & Owain 124 slip into a deeper vibe with the sunny loops of 'Together' and lush guitar trills. Ezequiel G channels the raw jack of early era-Chicago house with 'Soul Enough' then George Feely shuts down with the high energy and hard hitting house sounds of 'Groovin'' complete with an effortlessly uplifting and soulful filtered vocal.

On Again (4/4 dub) (5:05)
On Again (Dubstramental) (6:07)
Review: Listen again to Martin "Atjazz" Iveson's early noughties output and you'll find many rhythmic nods to the then popular West London broken beat scene. It's perhaps fitting, then, that the latest single on the Derby producer's label - a debut from the previously unheralded Marc and Oveous - pays tribute to that sound. While effortlessly deep and soulful (think woozy chords, soulful vocals and Iveson style jazz-funk synth flourishes), the track's most distinctive feature is its' Seiji-esque rhythm track. On the flipside the duo delivers contrasting instrumental takes - a bruk-up "Dubstramental", and a chunky "4/4 Dub" to slip effortlessly in to deep house sets.

Dennis Ferrer & Jerome Sydenham - "Jero" (dubstrumental)
Review: Ibadan drop another excellent split here. Jerome Sydenham remixes Motorcitysoul and then joins Dennis Ferrer to continue their acclaimed run of collaborations. "Mbali" is classic New York style deep house where as "Jero"steps into driving dub territory. Extra delights include extended and dub versions. Do not miss!

Review: Having set out their stall via a fine first collaborative release on Bordello a Parigi a couple of months back, Mytron and Ofofo pitch up on Multi-Culti. As you'd expect from a label with such a strong track record of multi-cultural musical fusion, much of the EP defies easy categorization. Sure, you'll find a chunk of Italo-influenced electro ("Non-Binary Joys on the Venus Holodeck") and a couple of slabs of madcap disco-funk fusion ("Si Jambo" and "2Tac Onana"), but also a heavyweight slab of low-slung punk-funk/post disco ("Czary Mary"). Oh, and the skewed electro-funk-meets-intergalactic synth pop insanity of "Something for Your Mind", which also boasts some notably brain-melting vocoder action. More, please!
