Review: Given that Luke Hess has previously appeared on Omar-S's FXHE label, it was probably only a matter of time before the latter appeared on the former's Deep Labs imprint. While the two producers' styles are notably different - Omar-S largely offers a house head's take on the trademark Detroit sound, while Hess is more interested in Motor City techno - they share a love of machine soul. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that this two-tracker is really rather good. The real killer is "Outerspace Drive", an enveloping and uplifting chunk of Detroit futurism layered with sublime sci-fi synths, hissing percussion and cascading chords. That said, the deeper, more hypnotic "Automatic Night" - a kind of purist tech-house exercusion - is pretty darn tasty, too.
