Review: Originally released in 1994 and now reissued in 2024, confirming the resurgence of interest in the classic jungle sound, 'Watch Out' is a hard-hitting jungle track with a relentless 'Amen' break, while 'Media' offers a more complex and atmospheric soundscape with a deep, broken bassline.. 'Watch Out' immediately grabs attention with its pounding bassline and heavy drums, the tribal percussion adding an exotic flavor, while the heavy Amen break provides the relentless drive that characterises jungle at its best. Review: Strap yourselves in for the return of Missile Vintage with a fifth transmission and this one is a track from the boss himself. Missile Records founder Tim Taylor crafted this banger back in 1992 and released it on the legendary FFRR imprint. It soon made its mark on the rave scene of the time and has remained influential to generations of DJs, dancers and producers ever since. Now it comes back to vinyl in original form, as well as next to a huge Foghorn mix from Micky Finn and a more physical and breaks-lead remix from Blade. Review: Now here's an artist name that works on various clever levels. Not just a play on the experimental, boundary breaking electronic troupe of the 80s Art Of Noise but also the alias for Suburban Base's in-house designer who was responsible for countless artworks and album covers on the label throughout the 90s. As a musician he was less prolific but still knew exactly what buttons to press and when to press them with a handful of releases around 93-95 along with Mike 'E-Type' James. Now back together, they're exploring their old signature but with a contemporary twist. A full album is expected imminently but in the meantime here are four great examples of their timeless aesthetic and energy. Make some noise.

This release resurrects the original mixes alongside some iconic remixes from the 90s, encapsulating a significant chapter in the jungle movement. A landmark release, not only signifiying a pivotal era in jungle but also marking the inaugural release on Philly Blunt, kicking things off as they were meant to go on. Crafted in Dillinja's home studio under the collaborative genius of Jumpin Jack Frost, in turn operating under the moniker Leviticus, the original mixes appear in full force here - 'Madamoselle' and 'Lovers Rock' - resonating with rare groove and reggae influences that each propel the track to Notting Hill Carnival fixture status, eventually catching the ear of Pete Tong who facilitated a mainstream release on FFRR the following year.

Review: Brighton imprint Furthur Electronix continues full steam ahead with its prolific output this year, and it's a big week for them. Alongside a great EP by Aussie Lou Karsh, we have this new one by Greek producer George Kontogiannidis aka Pera Sta Ori, who has racked up some impressive releases thus far on Musar, Brokntoys and Yellow Machines. As on previous works, the Sick Apian EP further explores Kontogiannidis' love of classic UK rave sounds. For instance A side cut 'Antio Zoi (TGRCCC)' utilises pitch shifted hardcore breaks underpinned by a dystopian electro atmosphere. Over on the flip, its '95 all over again on the breakneck junglist stepper 'Xypna' followed by the complex and hypnotic riddims of 'KodS0520 Fyllorroo'.

Review: As heard smashed on Vision Radio by Noisia on several occasions, original US junglist UFO! gets real on the beautifully named Psycho Bummer label. Four cuts of chaotic choppy-choppage and Amen splinters, this represents everything that's exciting about modern jungle right now. 'Level Up' and 'Big Up All' are all about the bashy bumps and shunts, 'Operation Drag N Drop' is a lot more nostalgic with its jazzier drums and emotional pads while 'Feed The Cat' tickles the whiskers with big drums and a mystical charm. Review: The North Quarter locks in another superbly stylish EP of functional but characterful drum & bass rhythms here. This one comes from LIN000 and features bunch of self titled tracks. The first is a supper, with fluid bass and low end oscillations. The second is more roomy and cancerous. It operates in an underwater world of bendy bass and crisp hits, then the flip side opens with a more raw, textural and fixing mix of synths and clacking hits before the closer pairs a high speed breakbeat with synths that twist and turn at their own speed.

Review: .Apocalyptic fusionistas Blood Of Heroes return to complete their trilogy of albums with Nine Cities. Every bit as powerful and abrasive as previous long players Remain and The Waking Nightmare, once again they take the dark imagery and intention from the original 1989 film and surge it into an unclassifiable and somewhat bewitching brew which has strong notes of IDM, metal and drum & bass. Highlights include the reflective dubby waves of 'Skara Brae', the high voltage tension of 'Lower Atlantis' and the skin-exfoliating 'Jerush-A-Salem'. Bloody good.

Review: Waveforms is as a brand-new label from ASC and Presha who are already well known and respected for their work with Spatial/Auxiliary and Samurai Music. It's a new outlet that will specially tap into the sounds of 90s jungle and serve up new tunes on 10". Tim Reaper has been behind one, and Eusebeia is now on this one on blue-marbled vinyl. A-side cut 'Waveform 05' is a cavernous cut with pulsing bass and spine chillingly ethereal vocals up top while 'Waveform 06' keeps the pressure on with more throwback jungle realness and unrelenting breakbeat pressure.

Review: Spatial Recordings are on a real roll; this isn't the only stellar Aural Imbalance EP to have been released lately. 'Far From Home' evokes the feeling of straying far from home all too well, its sonic subject taking every inauspicious risk - enslavement, treachery - for the sake of personal understanding and self-discovery, despite the cosmic abysses of loneliness that inevitably result from sonic journeys such as this. Aural Imbalance's ability to approach drum & bass pictorally, as if each track were a landscape painting, is all too evident; by far the star track is 'Lysithea', which does to atmospheric jungle what Tin Man does to acid, lending just-right amounts of echo, reverb and all-purpose space to a neat breaks-and-synth formula that goes beyond the mere sum of its parts.

Review: Australian bass collective Echo Chamber get busy with this supreme VA featuring a range of talented friends old and new. LQ takes the lead with the sublime 'Way Down' that bubbles and flexes in two system-primed forms: the spacious heavyweight Dubkasm mix and LQ and MSHCode's own breakbeat-heavier shakedown. Review: Bristol producer Arcane makes a monumental debut on Over/Shadow here with four tracks that have Brady caused plenty of carnage on global dancefloors. 'Minotaur' kicks off with a flurry of snares that are so snappy they will break your neck. 'Execute' is another dense packed rhythmic workout with blasts of horn, dark bass and drilling drum work while 'Warriah' then floats above then dancelfoor with its paranoid pads and stepping broken beat rhythms. This most high impact and physical of EPs shuts down with 'Spirit Chaser', a more pad laced cut but one that is no less driving.

Review: It's tie to spin it back, all the way back, to 1995. That year, John Lisners aka Baraka, served up the only two EPs he era made under this alias and the both came on Boogie Beat Records. Now, Kniteforce Records is reissuing the first of the two with on this newly remastered 12". Up first is 'Nutty Bass' which has just that. It is a clatter of percussion and jostling breaks that eventual resolve into a high energy drum & bass banger with bass pinging about the mix. On the flip is the more soulful and cosmically minded 'I'll Be There' with its loon bird calls, pinball melodies and liquid rhythms. Essential.

Review: It's been a big year for Hospital. Shucks, every year is a big year for London Elektricity's imprint, but 2014 seems especially big with huge albums from the likes of Fred V & Grafix, S.P.Y and now Metrik. Repping his game, the label and the genre at the highest level, Universal Language is a highly accomplished calling card for Metrik that showcases his ability to create barn-storming rave homages ("Make The Floor Burn"), arena-slapping sing-along lighter-raisers ("Human Again", "Infinity"), techy underground rollers ("Slipstream") and unifying cuts that give the legendary Underworld a run for their money ("Resonate"). Maintaining a fine balance of great songwriting, muscular production and straight-up dancefloor abandon, this speaks to every corner, every sub genre and every tiny pocket of D&B. Just as the title suggests.

Review: Bcee hits album number four and we have many people to thank for... The result of a crowd-funding mission (in order to save label funds for his artists), this was made under more pressure and motivation than any of his previous LPs put together. And you can really feel this energy and focus from the opening salvo of vocal soul cuts "Surfacing" and "Little Bird". Much deeper into the document we dive for the densely textured jazz flurries of "Had It All" (with Logistics), soulful song strength of the Riya-fronted title track and much darker sounds such as the knee-sweeping "Dead Reckoning" and the piano-slapping jungle homage "Keep Moving On". And these are just a small handful of highlights. Bcee has yet to deliver a bad album but this takes his repertoire, energy and sense of focus to a whole new level.

Review: The pairing of LSB and DRS is up there with wine and cheese. Having smashed 2015 with "The View", the pair return with another beautiful, emotion-soaked gem "Missing You". With its soft pianos and space for DRS to ruminate, it's another soulful smash that will stand the test of time. "Tumult" shows the complete flip of LSB's ever-perennial skills as he rolls out a darkside roller with a serious hurricane bassline that's powerful enough to take you back to the 2001. With his debut album around the corner, both tracks do well to remind you just how on-point LSB is.

Review: Spirits From An Urban Jungle were a jungle supergroup comprising of JMJ (EZ Rollers) & Richie and Tekniq, who between them continued to release music through the 90s and 00s on scene stalwarts such as Moving Shadow, Formation and Good Looking. But the group itself only had two releases back in 1994 on White House Records before they disbanded. Urban Decay EP is their second and final release - a blitzing four-tracker in their own patented mode of spitting, classic early junglism. With distinctive anti-deforestation and anti-civ themes, it's a much-sought gem for a good reason; its sound - from the soul coos on 'Retribution' to the voxpops on 'Inhabitants Of Pandemonium' - is spiritual, seeming to hark back to a prehistoric age.

Review: Swedish junglist Seba continues to dive into the back catalogue of his Secret Operations imprint and offer up EPs that feature remastered (and sometimes lightly remixed) versions of some of his classic cuts. On this second volume in the 'Secret Operations Reissue' series, he raids the catalogue of tracks he produced alongside Paradox in the mid 2000s. On side A you'll find a re-wire of their 2004 classic 'Wakeup Call', a punchy but deep, sub-heavy and atmospheric roller featuring fantastic lead vocals from legendary house vocalist Robert Owens. Over on the flip there's a chance to cop two cuts from 2005: the 'Apache'-sampling, rumbling sub-bass-propelled workout 'Fire Like This' and the punishing, jazz break-sporting sweatiness of 'The Dribbler'.

Review: Swedish d&b pioneer Seba continues to roll out more reissues from his Secret Operations label vaults, taking back over 15 years to some of his most career-defining work. The swaggering opener 'Your Deepest Love', the ice cold finale piece 'Legion' and the breath-taking 'Forever' all take us back to the mid-2000s (2006/7 to be precise) when Seba and his label really started to make their own independent mark in drum & bass. For good measure and balance he's also including 'Inkasso'. A little more recent in his discography at only eight years old, but just as hard hitting and timeless - Seba always hits the spot whatever era you find him at.

Review: Peaking once again; Vinyl Fanatiks off-shoot AmenTec (which is a collaboration between Amen Brother and Emotec) welcome old-but-new artist Ova Doce for his debut label EP. The result is a wide-armed homage to all forms of breakbeat and hardcore in the form of two originals and two remixes. 'I Feel Your Touch' is one of those end-of-night slo-mo dreamy breakbeat jams, all poignant and emotional (think Hybrid's early work but much grittier) while 'Love Me Once' goes straight for the Vamp-ish 2am hardcore feel. Meanwhile in remix country, DAWL flexes some tightly coiled electro charm while Escape Earth whips up the d&b. Easy Doce it.

Review: Foundation pioneer Jason Cambridge unleashes a right pair of beasts here on Australian imprint Compound. 'Flare' hits hard with a very little towards Dillinja's 'Hard Noize' era with the bite and jaggedness of the groove. 'Tomorrow Will Never Be The Same' shows us A Sides' more cosmic leanings. Sweeping out with a Marcus-like futuristic but simplistic sheen, there's a lot of latent emotion packed up in this one. Especially in the light of A Sides' right hand man Singing Fats passing away. RIP.
