Partial
Typical Male Behavior
Kobayashi Maru
Review: Slowly but surely Voodoo Down has built up a reputation as a deep house label you can trust. Its biggest release thus far was last year's Unstable Phenomenon EP by October (featuring a Joey Anderson remix), while other 12"s have featured STL Anton Zap and L'estasi Dell'oro. Of the six records that Voodoo Down has released, the artist/entity 12 x 12 has featured on half, and now the label offers the enigmatic 12 x 12 their own solo release. All three tracks are experimentally edged with "Partial" the most out-there and broken down production, while "Typical Male Behaviour" sounds like the workings of a robotic forest and creepy crawlies that inhabit it. Lastly, the title track is synthy, sunny and spaced out. More original, dope jams from the Voodoo Down crew.

Review: Former City launch what will presumably be new various artist sears here with Volume 1 of Ghettoboom. It features two tracks each by three different artists on a super limited 12" that has a healthy dose of streetwise swagger. There are rave samples and big breaks on 1905's 'Recorddeals' while DJ Pirna gets for a more soul soothing and loved up vocal vibe on his super sweet bumper 'Booty Snapper. Bringing a third different sound is 'Get Your Head Bust', a high speed, lo-fi techno cut with turbo claps. The flip also features footwork style club tracks, lush deep house and urgent floor pumpers. This one covers lots of ground in real style

Around The Bend (5:50)
Perfect Circuit (6:09)
Take Away (6:27)
Mosquito Bay (6:46)
Review: It is always an event whenever Dutch label Klakson serves up a hot new platter. This one comes from 214 who has made himself something of a regular on the label in recent times. His high speed, high quality contemporary electro sounds are driven by rugged machine funk and proudly analogue textures. 'Around The Bend' is the breathless opening assault and it is backed up by 'Perfect Circuit' which somehow ups the ante with its glistening synth sequels and tightly woven drums. On the flip, 'Take Away' marvels at hyperspeed with warped and mangled voices stitched into the arrangement and 'Mosquito Bay' then offers a less dense, more cosmic electro exploration.

Linolium Or Cardboard (4:53)
It Never Really Ends (5:01)
Earthworms (5:52)
Nocturnal Hikes (5:32)
Review: This seems like a marriage made in heaven. It sees electro scene stalwart 214 (AKA sometime Frustrated Funk, Touchin' Bass, CPU and Klakson contributor Chris Roman) pitch up on Cultivated Electronics for the very first time. There's a real sci-fi feel to proceedings, as if the cuts were created to soundtrack some neon-lit movie set in a dystopian future. If dancing through the apocalypse is your thing, check the fuzzy and forthright electro-funk of "Earthworms" and the punchy, Drexciya-on-Tatooine pop of "It Never Really Ends". Elsewhere, opener "Linolium Or Cardboard" mixes off-kilter electro beats with Mascara-clad new wave synth sounds, while "Nocturnal Hikes" is impressively weird and spaced-out despite its crunchy drums and weighty bass.

Time For (4:50)
Review: Seattle-based producer Chris Roman has been an active contributor to the international electro scene for well over a decade but has found renewed vigour since he began to operate under the 214 alias. A 2010 debut on Andrea Parker's Touchin Bass label introduced 214 and since then Roman has racked up releases for Car Crash Set, Harbour City Sorrow and its parent label Frustrated Funk. Ahead of a second 214 album due on Shipwrec, Roman lands back on Frustrated Funk for the Lyle At Dawn 12". Those electro fans who like their music to be a bit twisted and abstract will be all over this four tracker with the title cut and "Ektes" particular highlights. A fine precursor to Roman's upcoming album.

I See What You Did There (9:25)
Review: Nijmegen label Shipwrec have been in fairly imperious form this year, canvassing the spectrum of electro for some fine sounding and even-finer-looking records. Washington State artist Chris Roman issued his second 214 album on Shipwrec last year and returns here for "I See What You Did There", the first of several singles to arrive over the coming months - Central Processing Unit, Frustrated Funk and Lunar Disko also have records in the works with him. Taking shape as a one track 12" for the latest in Shipwrec's Silk Screen Printed Series, "I See What You Did There" snaps and throbs in all the right places across its nine minutes but is tempered with a sense of emotive contemplation that lends it some extra depth.

Synthesizers Made Of Paper (6:19)
Snow Banks (6:09)
Pattern Rotate (5:43)
Review: Fresh from an inspired outing on 20:20 Vision, Chris Roman once again dons the 214 mask for a four-track missive of Steffi's resurgent Klakson imprint. Fittingly, opener "Soapdish" - a proper peak-time Rotterdam electro workout - utilizes synths sounds and ragged riffs that invoke memories of Dexter's Klakson classic "Intruder", while "Synthesizers Made of Paper" brilliantly wraps spacey, life-affirming electronics motifs around a suitably crunchy machine beat. Over on side B, "Snow Banks" is a mildly foreboding, surprisingly melancholic chunk of deep electro brilliance and closer "Pattern Rotate" buries chiming lead lines below a deluge of twisted acid lines and distorted, funk-fuelled electro drums. Simply essential.

Jade (6:15)
Hurley (5:16)
Review: Frustrated Funk, Shopwrec and Central Processing Unit are just some of the quality labels on which the enigmatic 214 has delivered his wayward strains of electro and techno. This new single for Lunar Disko is straight-up, high calibre business, as per usual, starting with the mesmerising pads and alluring soundscapes of "The Breakfast Club", a beat-driven escapade through a wave of majestic synths. "Lunar Landing" is more on the Dutch electro side of things, thanks to its sub-aquatic beats and general demeanour while, on the flip, "Jade" injects some Chicago house live through an industrial filter, and "Hurley" liquifies its synths down to a thick pool of sonics and subtle beats. Gorgeous music.

Greenbelt
Review: Given their desire to deliver white-hot electro and IDM, it's little surprise to see that Sheffield's Central Processing Unit has turned to Shipwrec and Frustrated Funk regular 214 (AKA Seattle dweller Chris Roman). Predictably, the Washington State man has delivered another fine EP. He begins with the panicked electronics, bubbling synths and snappy rhythms of "Overbridge", before diving deep into purist electro pastures on the funk-laden brilliance of "Fuel Cells". Flip for the similarly funky 303 lines, intergalactic melodies and hissing electro beats of "Keep Right", and the darker, spacier and punchier "Greenbelt". If you're on the hunt for some "proper electro", look no further.

Windeye (Radioactive Man remix) (5:14)
Back To Sine (6:07)
Review: Chris Romans has been rolling out crucial electro jams for a number of highly regarded labels since the early 00s. Amongst them are Touchin' Bass, Shipwrec, Frustrated Funk and Central Processing Unit, so that tells you everything you need to know about the level he's operating at as 214. Now he comes to 20/20 Vision with some body-poppin' jams of the highest order, broadening the tech house label's remit to embrace the thriving electro scene with one of its most vital practitioners. "Potential Events" is a brooding, atmospheric affair while "Windeye" draws on a more playful, Detroit indebted palette of sounds. Radioactive Man remixes "Windeye" with a steady, finely detailed approach, and then "Back To Sine" finishes the record off with another snappy salvo of funky drums and bubbling synths.

Review: More majestic electro workouts from Chris "214" Roman, a producer who has been serving up slabs of tightly wound machine funk since the dawn of the decade. He opens his first Frustrated Funk outing for three years with the bittersweet deep electro shuffle of "Growing Old Together" before breaking up the beats, ratcheting up the bleeps and cranking out the crackles on alien funk throb-job "Last Dance". Over on the flip, "Dislocated" is a high-tempo slab of end of days electro full of growling noises and creepy chords, while "Voice Check" is picturesque, dreamy and life affirming: a triumphantly positive and melodious conclusion to another stunning collection of cuts.

Pocket Camp (5:35)
Our Walks At Teneriffe (5:47)
Isla Del Encanto (5:17)
Review: The Netherlands has always excelled at electro, particularly on the West Coast. As such it has a wealth of labels that are always go-to for proper electro heads no matter the day's prevailing trends. Frustrated Funk is one of them. 214 lands on it here but doesn't hang around for long, instead taking off to the cosmos on some enthralling rhythms and edgy synth patterns that flash and dash about the mix. 'Pocket Camp' is a stuttering, jittery one that shines bright and is backlit by celestial charm, 'Our Walks At Teneriffe' is another direct but cinematic sound and 'Isla Del Encanto' completes this one with the sort of urgent energy that carries you through the night.

Rushing For Fools
Review: Taking its name from the grey, concrete-filled grimy Nordvest area of Copenhagen where they reside, and fitting with the current wave of 303 revivalists doing interesting things with the tried and tested template (Recondite, Tin Man) 2400 Operator have already impressed with some deeper leaning releases for Jus Ed's esteemed Underground Quality imprint. On this three track EP for Tartelet they experiment more explicitly with the sounds of electro. "NV Electro" makes it patently clear what vibe they're going for with its track title and does so with considerable success; it's lean 808 breakbeat combines with a brittle arpeggio and searching pad melodies that is part classic Hague sound and part classic New York deepness. "Projects" is a more 4/4 affair but still uses a more cosmic sci-fi palette, complete with glittering synth arp and chunky low slung bassline to keep things grounded, while "Rushing For Fools" is like classic 80s house accented with 303 bass stabs that nevertheless has a clear and modern sensibility, delivering clever rhythms underneath its acid crescendo.

Review: CFRT's fourth release features early productions from Sven Rohrig under his acclaimed techno and house alias, 3 Phase. These tracks were originally released on Push back in 1996 and offer a window into his innovative approach, even though he was in his formative years. All these decades on, they still bang. 'Moon' is textured, edgy techno with restless drum rhythms and metallic percussive sounds, 'Other Edge' is a psyched-out number with bleeping melodies and thudding drums and 'Magic Edge' strips tings back to deep, pulsing bass, lashings of synth detail and a paranoid mood while 'Stash' shuts down with more slow motion sounds for the post-rave comedown.

Review: Fran Mela's Dog In The Night label continues it's haphazard assault on our affections with a seventh release so far this year coming from French producer 45 ACP. Otherwise known as D.K., Parisian Dang Khoa has experienced something of a creative rebirth this year after a few years working as Darabi alongside Low Jack, with releases on Antinote, Odd Frequencies and Get The Curse. This being Dog In The Night, Khoa has reserved his most bugged out productions for the five track Hold On EP and anyone that's dipped their toes in the label's previous output will most definitely approve. If you like your house music to sound like it's on the cusp of all out malfunction then cuts like "Hold On" and "keep Walking" are likely to pepper your sets for months to come.

World In Our Head (7:08)
Sowie Lockers (5:46)
Review: Humanoid Recordings co-founder 4d lays down another four-track 12" for the label, scouring the weightier and scrapier ends of minimal and acid house, all while teasing out a retro-robotic edge. Only an artist with a real sense of humour can invoke ideas of 'Stupidity' and 'Quantum Theory' in the same breath; both tracks betray the unified whimsy and intelligence that a successful acid house and techno artist must portray in order to win hearts. The latter uses a particularly sticky, hard-to-pin-down 4x4 kick style; contrast to B1 'World In Our Head', which portrays a psychic model of the outside world through trilling trance lines, and the meek glissandos of 'Sowie Lockers', securing an indeterminate but funky mood.

Review: The Was/Is crew have proven themselves to be dab hands at burrowing away at the hidden folds of the 90s electro scene and finding some truly unsung heroes worth of a reissue. Following on from excellent work supporting the likes of Archetype, the US label can now be found shining a spotlight on the work of Can Oral under the 4E moniker. Originally appearing on labels such as Force Inc and Mille Plateaux, 4E's sound was quintessentially mid-90s, but only surfaced over a short period of time between 1994 and 1998. This record originally came out on Sockett in 1996, and it's been sought after as avid diggers pull out every thread of dope, adventurous electro they can find. Review: Under the alias 4E, producer Can Oral created his own unique sound of raw, futuristic acid-electro. The A-Side tracks "Ask Isadora" and "Conga Banana" first appeared on the album, Blue Note, released on Home Entertainment in 1996. On the flip are two unreleased tracks picked from his extensive archive and edited by FIT Siegel. These were also recorded during this era, which Can describes below:

"In the 90s I moved to NYC to start a band with Jimi Tenor. I had a small flat in the East Village with the apartment number 4E and that became my artist name for the downtempo and electro material I was working on. The style I called Futuristic Electro because I didn't want to relate to the old school with this. I had my studio on the kitchen floor and pretty much only used EMU SP-1200, TB-303, TR-808 and SH-101 by good ol' Roland. In a way NYC was still developing because it was all about house music. In 1995, I opened Temple Records in Manhattan with Dr Walker from Air Liquide and DJ DB from Smile Communications. The record shop was inside the Liquid Sky clothing store. After a fire in the shop, along with a falling out with the owner I decided to talk to a fortune teller to find out what the future held. Her name was Isadora, and she had a TV show called "Ask Isadora." She told me on live television to move out, have my own shop and be independent, so I did. Thanks Isadora!"

Review: A special white vinyl edition of a stonker of a UK techno LP. The legendariness of The 7th Voyage's Return Voyage LP is said to outstrip that of others, with the short-lived label and artist moniker of one Joe Smilovitch locking in a "lost album" compiling works by fellows Tactics Of Bass, The Ron Honey Experience and Quadruplex for gem-hunters. That's the cherry on top of two already-wonderful single-EPs from the Smilovitch himself, 'The Predator' and 'The 4 Point', both from 1996. Pariter deem it "an exceptionally rare issue of a highly sought-after classic", and we can vouch for that. Wicked tunes all round.

His moniker has always been A Credible Eye Witness, or ACEW as is written on his own imprint, and sounds that feature on tunes like "Gravity Dance" and "Storm Attack" have always represented him as an artist - toxic, cyber-punk tones that remind us of artists like Convextion. Groovepressure came from the underground and had support from legends like Laurent Garnier and Andrew Weatherall with recent support from the newer school including Onur Ozer and Raresh. A² (aka Andy Panayi and Alec Stone) are London bred artists who originally appeared on Groovepressure in 2001. Their tracks will form the first comeback release on Groovepressure. "No Mistake" and "Rebirth" are both re-mastered Groovepressure classics in their own unique tech-breaks style whilst "A² Groove" and "Real Thing" are new releases taken from the vaults and keeping the same vibe.

Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere IV
A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)
Kosmogonik - "Circuitry"
Silicon Scally - "Relay"
Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

Review: More from the seemingly endless deep archives of Andy Panayi and Alec Stone's long-running A2 production partnership, which first tickled our senses way back in 1997. There's much to admire throughout, with nine-minute A-side cut "Seriously" - an acid-flecked fusion of bustling breakbeats, alien melodies, woozy chords and post-electro electronics - offering a brilliantly club-ready opening. They begin the flipside with what sounds like a turn of the millennium club electro workout (think punchy beats, pulsating analogue bass and moody chords), before adding a little UK garage flavour to their basslines and beats on the deep space bounce of "Feel The Rhythm".

Review: The Abstract Eye is one half of GB aka Gifted & Blessed aka The Steoples. He has a sound that brims with analogue electronics and could be from the future or 30 years old. His emotive sounds here take us on a journey through the cosmos with 'Aura (Vuda Je)' setting the scene some gentle modulations. 'Kinda Dreamlike' is what Omar S might sound like high on DMT and the EP highlight 'Gears Not Working' rides on a rugged beat with soulful electronics and loose chords adding light and warmth. 'Back In Balance (Equilibrium)' is a final future retro gem with more magnificent synth work.

Review: Gabriel Reyes Whittaker is The Abstract Eye: an L.A.-based producer also known as GB (Gifted & Blessed) and Frankie Reyes. Regarding the dynamic pace of the music industry, he asks the question, what's real anymore? For him, it comes down to the feelings this music evokes. Last year saw the much needed reissue of his underrated 2011 opus Cool Warm Divine on Holland's Rush Hour, and this new record is another emotive release which explores classic electro and techno sounds - borrowing from the best of the genre's recent past but reinterpreting it in his own distinct way. From the old school deep techno bounce of "Land, Sky & Sea" to the chill groove of "What's Real Anymore?" or the mellow electro of "Butterfly Patterns" - thia is as real as it gets.

Nobody Else (part 2)
Review: Last seen in 2008 dropping a trio of EPs from Creepy Autograph, Valentine Connexion make a welcome return. Little may be known of The Abstract Eye, the mysterious entity responsible for the five tracks that make up Cool Warm Divine, but there's a certain Detroit hotness, a vintage rawness and undeniable analogue sexiness running through the production here. The title track pays homage to the vintage Detroit sound pioneered by Drexciya et al, laying a multiplicity of bubbling synth flourishes over rippling drum machine kicks. It's the slippery analogue flex of B Side opener "The Unseen" that impresses the most though; all neon synth lines tinged with futuristic sensibilities over simmering bass and snapping Model 500 kicks.

Review: The Abstract Eye aka Gifted & Blessed always makes electrifying music that brims and bristles with energy. It is dense and textural and requires close attention to unpack and get lost in but that effort is always more than repaid. This is another brilliantly heavy outing, a first on Technoindigenous, that makes great use of one of the most legendary bits of gear in any studio - the TR-909, Here the artist finds new ways to make it sing with acid-laced house, clattering percussion and cosmic synth work that will rewire your brain.

This righteous four tracker keeps Vibert firmly rooted in the slowed-down acid territory that's marked out some of his best ever material. This First Cask release is dazzling.

Review: Our latest favourite musical non-terrestrial intelligence, Acid For The Grandma, lays down a four-track sonic analysis of what it means to be human. Firstly, we're met with a serene 'Space Pass Over', as this geriatric grey-ette scans our biosphere for signs of life, unintimidated by the threat of interplanetary warfare, governmental misrepresentation or mass panic. Some conflicts break out - documented sonically on twin acid electro expressions, 'Clock Moods' and '/humans', both of which would be worthy of a new Voyager Golden Record - while the descending arpeggiations of 'Symptomystery' evoke the landing of the Grandma's spacecraft and the ultimate coming-back-down-to-Earth, a radical unity of alien and citizen.

Review: For their latest trick, the Rawax crew has taken a deep dive into the back catalogue of Roman Flugel and Jorn Elling Wuttke's work as Acid Jesus - the project with which they made their name before morphing into Alter Ego. Lead cut 'Radium' dates from 1995 and wraps alien electro sonics, proto-minimal techno motifs and pots and pans percussion around a deep bassline and hypnotic machine drums. The pair's passion for heads-down hypnotism and metallic noises is further explored on the superb 'Uranium Smuggle' (which originally appeared on the flip-side of 'Radium'), while 'Hibernation Drive' is a punchy and evocative electro number first released in 1997.

Theer are zero prizes for guessing the style son offer here: right from the opening cut the acid lines begin to warp themselves around you over icy techno pulses. 'Optic Flow' then brings a more rugged 303 line that is stretched and skewed over dubby, bulbous drums and 'Acid' then gets down and dirty with a nice menacing lead and haunting pads off in the distance. Last of all, 'Perception Of Time' cuts loose on far-sighted pads and bendy bass, taught kicks and a nice heady sense of soulful futurism.

Review: Big up to the Orson label for hitting a quarter of a century of releases. Malata based artists Neil Hales aka Acidulant gets the nod and shows of his love of direct acid sounds. He has done similar on the likes of DJ Pierre's labels Jack Trax Records and Afro Acid but really hits the next level here with hard hitting and turbocharged bangers like 'Heavy Max' next to slower, more spaced out and melancholic jams like 'Butify'. The flipside starts off deep and atmospheric with 'Forget Your Imagination' and that pensive vibe continue through 'Nuhamba' before dramatic closer 'When The Sun Meets The Acid.'

Review: This release presents a dynamic exploration of electro and techno, blending fast-paced, acid-driven energy with atmospheric depth. Side-1 opens with 'Destruction Industries', a heavy, dramatic track that pulses with acid electro, creating an intense, alien vibe. 'My Vision Of Space' follows with a futuristic, Carl Finlow-esque feel, offering a sleek, forward-thinking electro sound. The Belaria Remix of the track slows things down, providing a lower BPM version that retains the original's spacey atmosphere but with a more subdued, deeper groove. Side-2 shifts gears with 'Ammoniax', diving into otherworldly techno with a hypnotic, immersive quality and 'We Come For Acid', a darker, trancey track that builds tension with heady, layered acid sounds, perfect for late-night listening. Overall, this release offers a varied, yet cohesive mix of high-energy electro and atmospheric techno.

Review: Whatever an 'acidulant' is, we daren't try to convey it directly in words, since we think the associations conjured up by their latest record 'Sonic Expansion' should be more than enough. The artist also known as Neil Hales lays down four unusually broken offcut janks for Gated here. The tracks play back like greyscale, jagged chindogu, relying less on pure floor-filling utility and more in the excesses of inventive effort - of mind-body unity - that it might require to make out their danceability. 'FunKT10n' brings apocalyptic Reeses to make-do, evoking the sound of a madcap space-navvy going ham on the toolbox and working themself to death in the process; 'Sonic Expansion' marks a stark contrast to this, bringing sixteenthy new beat / Italo stylings to a melodic yet mechanistically hollow backbeat.

Review: Some six years after debuting via a deliciously angular and energetic EP from Jaquarius and Mono-Enzyme 307, the Acid Avengers imprint notches up release number 20. Like most of the label's EPs, it's a multi-artist affair. Sometime Balkan Vinyl and Bass Assault artist Acidulant handles side A, bouncing between rushing, piano-sporting 1992 hardcore revivalism ('Super Rave'), sub-heavy deep electro haziness ('Save The Last Rave') and throbbing, arpeggio driven trance/breakbeat techno fusion ('Hauz Trax'). Voiron, who last graced the label back in 2016, takes over on the flip. The Paris-based producer first fuses glistening, spacey melodies, twisted acid lines, post-electro beats and dirty bass on 'Bon Kick Voiron', before opting for deep acid house on 'Digital Voiron Workstation' and atmospheric, Orbital-meets-'90s tech-house on 'Sugar Voiron'.

Review: Werk Discs chief Actress - aka Darren Cunningham - drops the breathtaking Machine & Voice EP ahead of a full album release slated for May. Despite a relative paucity of releases in recent years, 2010 is set to be a watershed for Cunningham. A remix of Joy Orbison’s recent single "The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow" on Will Saul’s Aus Music, kicked things off. Now within a space of a fornight he’s dropped this EP, on Instra:mental's Nonplus imprint, and another on his own label.  And of course Splaszh, his second full length album, continues to loom tantilisingly on the horizon.

Machine & Voice sees Actress pulls off his usual trick of drawing on many disparate influences - from dubstep to techno to drum & bass -  yet managing to make his sound stand alone. In keeping with the label, these three tracks are of a more experimental/bass-driven bent, although such an ambiguous description hardly does it justice. Whatever you want to call it, the fact is Actress now occupies a space in electronic music that no one else can touch. Do not miss this EP.

Review: Bitstream legend Steve Conner brings his Adapta alias on Holland's mighty Frustrated Funk with the four-track MKS-50 12" a homage to vintage Roland synthesizer of the same name. Fans of those prized Adapta releases on Brutalist Sunset will be pleased to hear the MKS-50 12" continues Conner's forage through rugged, improvised electro rhythms and displays his undoubted mastery of the Roland machine. Summed up by Frustrated Funk as "tracks created with technology from the past, aimed for the future," what shines through is the range Conner achieves across the four tracks. Opener "MKS-50_01" fizzes with chaotic energy, whilst subsequent tracks square the focus on basslines or conjuring up vast swells of rhythmic noise. Final track "MKS-50_04" snaps the hardest though!

Review: This new drop from key Dutch label Frustrated Funk is a 12" sampler for Adapta's critically acclaimed Memory Program album. It was only a cassette and digital release the first time around so it's great to have these tracks on wax. There is a serenity to the synths of 'Who Am I' that really captivates your imagination while 'Cousin Bruce' has whipping, lashing synth lines tearing up the broken beat funk and 'Cassette King' is a sludgy, lo-fi, gritty and mutant slow motion rhythmic workout. 'Memory Event' and 'Stars Hold' add yet more variation to a superb 12" and a great reminder of the quality of the original album.

Minutes Of Funk
Review: 3024's pilfering of West Country talent continues unabated with the rather busy of late Julio Bashmore being swiftly followed by the equally prolific Addison Groove in releasing essential club tackle for Martyn's imprint. Anyone who has indulged in Mr T Williams' recent output for Swamp81 or Tectonic will have an inkling of the current Addison Groove sonic flex, all tightly wound post circa 130bpm 808 patterns, though "It's Got Me" is truly characterised by the disparate sensation of woozy melodic flourishes being diced by the rhythmic swagger. Flipside you get future funk electro odyssey of "Minutes Of Funk" with swathes of purple textures allowed to breath beneath a perma bouncy bass thrust. The midway drop into a bumping house pattern will grab you every time!

Make Um Bounce
Review: In between brief dalliances with Swamp81 and 3024, Addison Groove shows some hometown support with this essential twelve for Pinch's Tectonic imprint. "This Is It" could only come from the sonic palette of Tony Williams, with steppy juke heavy 808 riddims ripping out of the speaker cones at 138bpm amidst a barrage of expertly spliced vocals and rubbery rave bleeps. Amidst the rowdiness, there's a distinct progression to the track which makes it a worthy successor to last year's triumphant "Footcrab". "Make Um Bounce" slips down the tempo scale a notch or two for a more standard 4x4 flex that's brimming with enough bass and rasping percussion to find a place amidst Jackmaster's forthcoming excellent mix for Fabric. Big tip!

Best known for its hype garage sounds it heads into minimal territory here with Adelina at the buttons for the seventh in the Black Label Series.
