DJ Pirna - "Cars Fo Women" (4:03)

1905 - "Sometimes Sweet, Sometimes Salty" (4:30)
Review: Former City launch what will presumably be new various artist sears here with Volume 1 of Ghettoboom. It features two tracks each by three different artists on a super limited 12" that has a healthy dose of streetwise swagger. There are rave samples and big breaks on 1905's 'Recorddeals' while DJ Pirna gets for a more soul soothing and loved up vocal vibe on his super sweet bumper 'Booty Snapper. Bringing a third different sound is 'Get Your Head Bust', a high speed, lo-fi techno cut with turbo claps. The flip also features footwork style club tracks, lush deep house and urgent floor pumpers. This one covers lots of ground in real style

Voiron - "Bon Kick Voiron" (3:40)
Voiron - "Digital Voiron Workstation" (4:30)
Voiron - "Sugar Voiron" (4:31)
Review: Some six years after debuting via a deliciously angular and energetic EP from Jaquarius and Mono-Enzyme 307, the Acid Avengers imprint notches up release number 20. Like most of the label's EPs, it's a multi-artist affair. Sometime Balkan Vinyl and Bass Assault artist Acidulant handles side A, bouncing between rushing, piano-sporting 1992 hardcore revivalism ('Super Rave'), sub-heavy deep electro haziness ('Save The Last Rave') and throbbing, arpeggio driven trance/breakbeat techno fusion ('Hauz Trax'). Voiron, who last graced the label back in 2016, takes over on the flip. The Paris-based producer first fuses glistening, spacey melodies, twisted acid lines, post-electro beats and dirty bass on 'Bon Kick Voiron', before opting for deep acid house on 'Digital Voiron Workstation' and atmospheric, Orbital-meets-'90s tech-house on 'Sugar Voiron'.

Hunter (Versalife mix)
Cabal
Millennium 2.2
Review: Asok's Scenery imprint continues to go from strength to strength, with the boss man following up Bantam Lions' recent Recollections EP with a single of his own. "Hunter" is undoubtedly the Liverpool-based producer's strongest track yet, with woozy, soft-focus chords and alien electronics riding a dusty, analogue-rich groove. As with much of the label's recent output, there are distinct hints of Mood Hut, Future Times and Mister Saturday Night. Experienced producer Versalife reworks the title track, turning it into a blissful chunk of Drexciya-style electro. Flip to the B-side for "Cabal", an ultra-deep and occasionally discordant concoction, and the fuzzy, Detroit-influenced bounce of "Millennium 2.2".

Central Intelligence - "Droid Wave" (5:42)
Central Intelligence - "Evil Dead" (5:10)
Victor Reyes - "Memory Change" (7:10)
Victor Reyes - "Fracturas" (6:09)
Review: Statica's debut release, 'M2-9: Wings of a Butterfly', showcases the label's dedication to serving up diverse techno sounds. This split EP, STATICA001, opens with two intense and dancefloor-ready bangers by the prolific Central Intelligence on the A-side, and both are packed with visceral drum energy and synth unpredictability. The B0side features Madrid-based Victor Reyes, who delivers two reflective but also emotionally charged 4/4 workouts that create a compelling contrast that embodies Statica's "Forces in Equilibrium" ethos. Inspired by the unique butterfly-shaped nebula Minkowski 2-9, this release is a fresh and impactful fusion of power and sensitivity.

Vectorvision - "Beta Cloud" (5:06)
Textasy - "Goron" (4:03)
Cygnus - "Pink Lipstick" (feat Dolly Vicious) (3:10)
Review: Could there be a new techno sound emerging from the depths of the Texas desert? Kind of like the Vancouver house sound, but a bit grainer and dustier? Perhaps, yes, and Texas Recordings Underground might just be the ticket. It's a five-person lockdown here, and the emergent Cygnus delivers to stone cold electro chillers in "Make The Brain Relax" and "Pink Lipstick"; not your ordinary kind of electro, something in between Drexciya and the house sound of Chicago - excellent. We also have ERP aka Convextion with "Tandy Center", a rolling, cybernetic techno-morph; Vectorvision with the dripping synths of "Beta Cloud", and "Goron" by Textasy, a metallic, drum-led piece with an eerie vibe. A total winner, and something of a regional debut from the US! Keep it comin'.

Review: N2MU003 is focused on one of the most interesting enigmas around the quantum physics field, the wave function collapse. Wandering around quantic and Newtonian worlds, The Exaltics, Das Muster, Datawave, Module 3F, Promising Younster, Monsul and Vronsky convey an homogeneous message, without losing sight of their creative individual characters.

Microthol & DJ K-1 - "Binary System" (4:00)
DJ Stingray & The Exaltics - "Herd Instinct" (4:14)
VC-118A & Privacy - "Eha" (6:20)
Review: Trust's new XY series is based around what the label describes as "recombinations", though most would say that what's on offer is a fine set of remixes of tracks from the label's bulging vaults. Fittingly, DJ Glow's 'The City', which opened the label's first release in 1998, is the first to undergo treatment, with Viennese duo /DL/MS re-wiring it as an acid-flecked electro stepper. Electro legend Keith Tucker dons the DJ K1 guise and turns Microthol's 'Binary System' into a vocoder-sporting, funk-fuelled electro roller, before the Exaltics re-imagine DJ Stingray's 'Herd Instinct' as a high-octane acid-powered acid-electro throb-job. Finally, Privacy delivers the most revolutionary rub: a ghostly instrumental hip-hop take on VC118-A's 'Eha'.

DJ Stingray - "Assassin"
Vin Sol - "Edges Of A Vortex"
Review: Having first debuted on Unknown To The Unknown back in 2011, Detroit electro icon Sherard 'Stingray' Ingram makes a triumphant return to the label overseen by DJ Haus with one of his most intense productions yet! "Assassin" is vicious, ghetto ready electro at its nastiest and arrives at the end of a year when Ingram's been busy colluding with Drexciya pal Gerald Donald under the NRSB-11 banner. Complementing this, So Wavey Records boss (and sometime John Candy lookalike) Vin Sol gets the opportunity to have his anthem "Edge Of A Vortex" pressed on vinyl, after the track burnt an indelible digital hole in the internet when it first surfaced last year.

Silicon Scally - "Dark Matter" (7:08)
Silicon Scally - "Moonax" (7:56)
Voice Stealer - "Unintensional" (5:37)
Silicon Scally - "Deep Dissolve" (7:36)
Silicon Scally - "Auton" (6:07)
Silicon Scally - "Pace" (7:03)
Carl Finlow - "Wafer Thin" (6:28)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Carl Finlow is something of a cult hero in the British electronic underground, having turned his hand to many aliases and styles without pandering to hype, and that's surely why the discerning For Those That Knoe label have deemed him worthy of a showcase release. His works as Silicon Scally are a particular highlight, channeling the seediest streams of Detroit electro and injecting a little of that UK verve and swagger into the mix, with invariably stunning results. Watch out for the seductive bite of "Dark Matter" and the dystopian funk of "Deep Dissolve", but in truth every selection on this choice double pack is worthy of some serious platter time.

Voice Stealer - "Evaluation"
Carl Finlow - "Endgame"
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Carl Finlow is one of the great unsung heroes of British electronic music, with a raft of aliases and projects that burst with inventive production, warmth and a sense of fun that so much slickly produced techno and electro misses. For Those That Knoe are doing the right thing in gathering together some choice cuts from over the years - the Voice Stealer jams in particular stand out with their miscreant tones and overall uneasy atmosphere tapping into the malaise of the darker Drexciya-related output. There are all shades of electro to be enjoyed on here though, and hopefully it'll place Finlow on the radar for a few more heads.

Conan - "Neptune Racing" (6:08)
214 - "Deep Ellum" (7:46)
VC-118A - "Face The Waves" (4:40)
Review: Ireland's Lunar Disko is back in the game with another one of their immensely entertaining collaborative EPs, and this one is featuring a selection of artists whom we feel particularly fond of. For starters, our man man John Heckle is in the place repping the UK-side of techno, leading the lines with the wonky, off-kilter electro-acid cut named "Steel Sky", while label regular Conan comes through with an insanely lo-fi techno cut called "Neptune Racing" that feels like it was made in the basement of a sweaty Chicago studio circa 1989. On the flip, 214, who is another familiar face, drops an aerial attack in the form of a paranoid, brooding artillery of glitchy electro by the name of "Deep Ellum", whereas VC-118A's relatively more placid "Face The Waves" delves into a much deeper and floaty downtempo mode for the early, early sets...

VSO - "Complacency" (5:02)
Review: Human Behind Pluto, johnfaustus and VSO all contuse to this new split red vinyl from Zodiak Communte. Human Behind Pluto goes first with a warp speed, electro-tinged techno track that has a knack-snapping beat and brilliantly mangled acid line. Johnfaustus's 'Red Sonjia' is dark and twisted electro from the underworld and VSO offers two sick jams: 'Sinking' is a bumping and coruscated bit of electro-crunk and 'Complacency' is a dense full flavour cosmic assault with fearless drum programming and plenty of suspenseful synths. This one takes no prisoners and comes with its own unique insert.

Review: Pau Roses and Adria launched Cupula last year with a collaborative 12" which showcased their particular approach to the tech house scene, where acidic and rave influences can slip into sleek beat structures to make for dancefloor magic. That theme continues on this split release, which invites the likes of Hypnofriends, Saverio Celestri and Innershades to lay down their own machine-powered jams for the freakier kind of floor. If you want to have a lot of fun and grease the crowd up good and proper, these tracks have got you covered.

Cold Sweat (Ekman remix)
Cold Sweat (Orgue Electronique remix)
Review: Eeked out late last year on a test press, this immaculate bouquet of poppish French electro gets a full release. It's the first time Jauzas The Shining has appeared on LKT since his 2013 "Nuclear Invasion", and this time he's brought reflective poet Victoria Lukas along for the ride. While both "Cold Sweat" and "Coral Eyes" are sinister lullabies, "Fluid" is a much darker, dancefloor aimed original with heavily textured synth leads. The dancefloor focus is retained on the remixes as Ekman digs out a witchy brew of foggy techno and Orgue Electronique looks to Detroit and early UR for inspiration on his crystalline tech blend.

CKFT (Keith Tucker X Carl Finlow) - "Coder" (4:55)
Voigtmann - "Subtopia" (6:07)
Cignol - "51D" (5:13)
Review: 20/20 Vision's electro mission continues unabated with this second compilation drop in the Exit Planet Earth series. The record opens up with Jensen Interceptor working alongside Assemble Code for a darkside workout heavy on the details and rude around the low end. Carl Finlow and Keith Tucker form a mini-supergroup for a new partnership CKFT, displaying their formidable chops with the body-rocking dystopia of 'Coder'. Voigtmann keeps things closer to the 4/4 spectrum on 'Subtopia', but with plenty of machine funk tropes woven into the mix. Cignol completes the set with a widescreen sound that's steeped in emotion and sci-fi noir from a dazzling array of finely tuned synths (including some essential 303, of course).

JTC - "In Transit"
Gosub - "Blue In Black"
Sync 24 & Defekt - "Pulse Effect"
Versalife - "Ionization"
Review: James T. Cotton, Gosub and Versalife all feature on the third and penultimate instalment of Cultivated Electronics' World Electronix series. Established last summer, the series allowed the London based Cultivated Electronics the chance to champion contemporary electro from an international cast, with The Exaltics, prolific Finnish producers Morphology and Abstract Forms label chief Deixis included on the previous two volumes. This 12" is by far the most high profile however, with Nation alumnus James T Cotton turning in a tough analogue dreamer "In Transit" under the recently shorn down JTC banner, continuing the form shown on full EPs for Killekill, Hoya Hoya and newcomers Ansatz this year. Alongside this are contributions from Boris Bunnik's Versalife project, the Miami-based Shad T. Scott aka Gosub, and a collaboration between CE label head Sync 24 and Dublin based electro producer DeFeKT.

Lectromagnetique - "The Abyss" (5:26)
Vault - "Unknown Victim" (instrumental) (7:26)
Synkronized - "Coma Jam" (3:58)
Review: Given that every release to date has been a winner, we're expecting big things from the latest volume in Snuff Trax's electro-focused In The Dark Again series. Predictably, there's not a weak link in sight. We're particularly enjoying the spacey electronics, woozy melody lines, snappy drum machine hits and warehouse-friendly intent of Kaspar's "Deleite Obscuro. That said, Lectromagnetique's punchy, TB-303 electro floor filler, "The Abyss", is also superb and arguably the most floor-friendly cut of the lot. Elsewhere, Vault drops a chunk of revivalist Italo-disco dustiness and Synkronized goes all weird, spacey and distorted on the equally as inspired "Coma Jam".

Vault - "XXIX" (7:50)
Bakunin Commando - "Kill Your Braincop" (5:26)
Review: Snuff Trax's In The Dark Again off-shoot has been gaining all sorts of praise recently, and that's because the label provides us with exactly the right kind of electro - raw, diverse strains of vintage industrialism for the modern listener (and dancer!). This is the label's sixth outing, and we have four tunes by four emerging talents: Le Chocolat Noir provides a bit of neo-romanticism on the Coexistence mix of "Never Let Go", while Vault's "Freedom Of Choice" makes for one of the most sinister acid experiments we've heard all year. The same artist shreds that sleek elegance to pieces on the rough and cavernous EBM tune "XXIX", leaving "Kill Your Braincop" by Bakunin Commando to fester in a murky pool of echoing sonics, delayed voices and a foreboding harmonic arrangement. Solid stuff.

Das Ding - "Analog Devices" (6:54)
VCS2600 - "Modular Deivce" (4:29)
Review: The tenth missive on Vortex Traks is full to bursting with tasty treats. As with many of the Berlin-based imprint's previous outings, it's a multi-artist affair. Marshall Applewhite kicks things off via the deep electro/dusty IDM fusion of "Better Do Not", where eight-bit electronics and undulating acid-style motifs rise above a crunchy beat, before Forehard attempts to batter dancefloors into submission via the full-throttle, Klakson-style Rotterdam electro filth of "Rhythm Device". Das Ding invites us to party in deep space via the high-tempo beats and swirling, some would say psychedelic electronics of "Analog Devices", before VCS2600 serves up some seriously punchy, acid-fired electro ("Modular Device").

It starts right here as legendary innovative composer Gigi Masin opens with the lilting, delicate "Maja", Vakula brings us down from the clouds and back to the future with the body-jacking ghetto bump of "Robot Fuck The System" while Flugel blows the finale horn with the swampy Amazonian harmonic trip-out "Mice On Stick". Review: To complement Objekt's masterful 36-track session for their irregular Kern mix series, Tresor have put out two self-explanatory 12" samplers. Kern Vol. 3: The Exclusives sees contributions from accomplished electro technicians Clatterbox and Polzer as well as Bristol's rising Shanti Celeste and Via App of 1080p fame. "Aspect Ratio" from Clatterbox and Celeste's understandably incandescent "Lights" both feature in a movement on the mix that is a real highlight of Kern Vol. 3, but DJs will be happy both have been pressed her for full club play. On the B-side, the swift and snappy metallic tunnelling of Polzer's "Static Rectifier" could be mistaken for an angry DJ Stingray, whilst Via App's "From Across The Room (Edit)" is a more playful, if pensive affair.

It is co-founder Emo Omar who features both solo and in collaboration with Luje from Club Pizza while two exciting new French talents Chud and Vivant also make their mark. 'Pollen' is a bright and hooky melodic electro sound then 'You & Me' gets more percussive, with old school cow bells staying busy next to all sorts of wonky synth work. 'Tomorrow's Made Of Breaks' is built on rigid funk and trippy synth bleeps and 'Zeus' shuts down with some retro-future vocoder vocals. This is a great return from a label we hope now pushes on.

Radioactive Man is up first with 'One Out', which finds the original Lone Swordsman on impeccable form teasing and testing his rubbery synth flex around a needlepoint groove. Annie Hall follows up in fine style with the dreamy lilt of 'Invisible Dust', while Sansibar locks into something a little dirtier on the dungeon boogie of 'Tamagotchi'. First to strut their stuff are veteran producers Christian Smith and John Selway, whose 'Blink of an Eye' is the kind of energetic, full throttle club electro number that sounds like it should be accompanying a starship chase scene in a dystopian sci-fi music (an effect intensified by a combination of moody spoken word and vocoder vocals). Belgian veteran CJ Bolland delivers a surprise electro workout in the shape of the bustling and bleeping 'The Demotic Scene', while the effervescent Vince Watson smothers a deep electro beat in glistening synthesizer chords, deep pads and pleasingly emotive melodies

Review: Away from her more austere techno output, Steffi can known to be a big lover of unabashed party-time electro, and it doesn't get more exuberant and catchy than this collaboration with Dexter and Virginia in a departure from most of the output you'll find on Ostgut-Ton. "Treasure Seeking" is a craftily penned crossover cut with as much pop nous as underground clout, with Dexter's squelchy sound-design looming over the mix. The 130 BPM version gets a little more of that Detroit electro style looming over proceedings, while Diep delivers a straight-talking Motor City techno version loaded with plush string synths and stacks of energy.

Review: While Steffi and Virginia have been working together on and off for the best part of a decade, "Work A Change" is undoubtedly their most significant collaborative work to date (both in terms of its expansive nature and the quality of music on show). With Virginia handling singing duties throughout, "Work A Change" rides on waves of tasty electro grooves and hazy synth-pop motifs and futuristic electronics. It's a blueprint that guarantees goodness throughout, from the quietly euphoric shuffle of opener "Be True To Me" and the pulsating dancefloor fizz of "Help Me Understand" (one of two cuts showcased in both vocal and instrumental forms), to the high-tempo thrust of "Until You're Begging", the bass-heavy, future dancehall wonkiness of "Internal Bleeding" and triumphantly intergalactic title track.

Review: The second of two 12" singles this week from Darkestral Recordings sees Instra:mental's Al Green further explore his new Transportation AAD alias, a collaboration with Darkestral label head Drkstr. In "Pagoda", the pair compose a particularly atmospheric interlude which utilises Eastern tones and booming drums to create a soundscape worthy of a noir tinged sci-fi movie. The single also features more contributions from Green under another new guise, Grey Goo. Less obviously dancefloor focused, the cavernous sonics and brooding atmospherics of "Lost Transmissions" recalls the introspective dub experimentation of Blackest Ever Black's Raime, while "See Me" fuses this aesthetic to some drawn out chords and sharply programmed 808 drums. The final contribution comes from the mysterious Vaalhaala, who employs a pulsing arpeggio which sounds like it has come from a far off satellite transmission, with sounds that threaten to explode at any moment. Sounding like nothing else this year, this EP is a perfect hybrid of futuristic bass and bleak moods, and will be essential for anyone interested in where the genre can go next.

Review: Lion & Lamb Records emerges from the London-based community of underground electronic heads orbiting the venue of the same name. Considering the quality of the events, you can drop the needle on this various artists joint safe in the knowledge the same high standards apply. The killer new project from Voigtmann, V3000 is up first with the ear-snagging machine funk of "The Man Who Belongs To The Horizon", before Alex Celler drops in some utterly cheeky, wriggling micro house naughtiness to add some spice to the after party. Review: Two Phase U has been busy recently and has a slew of releases out in the next few weeks, but first up is a split with relative newcomer Nemo Vachez for Opia. Every release on this label sells out in quick time, and for good reason: it deals in music that straddles a divide between house and techno, with elements of dub and breakbeat adding further vitality. Vachez's tech-funk opener sounds like classic Two Lone Swordsmen, while "Love From Jupiter" has infectious, fluttering metal snares and rugged bass. The flip features something you might describe as techno disco on "Time Is Like Sand Through Your Fingers", while "Yolocreo" is a blizzard of drums, toms, hits and restless melody that awakens your every sense.

Review: The mysterious The Valley and The Mountain project made its debut on Belgium's WeMe label late last year with Black Planet, a seven-track LP that came described only as like "Marvin Gaye and Tangerine Dream together in an elevator in Detroit". Although those expecting soulful vocals might have been disappointed, the brand of electro the project pushes is certainly one situated at the more ambient, kosmische-influenced end of the scale. The outfit make a swift return with Another Portal, where a crisp yet laid-back combination of 808 rhythms and deep melodies come reminiscent of Lifestyles Of The Laptop Cafe, the classic album from the late James Stinson's The Other People Place project - and there is no higher praise than that.

Rytumtraks 0020.2
Review: First surfacing in 2011 with the "synaesthetic media" platform of his No Comment series, Dutchman Albert Van Abbe has become one of the more consistently engaging producers from the Lowlands, offering an approach that sits somewhere between Drexciyan wave and Raster Noton bleep. This was perhaps best demonstrated on last year's debut LP Patch For Series Active Mutations Of Self-reproducing Networks and after being invited to release on the Curle label earlier this year, Van Abbe is back with the eighth no Comment release. Both "Rytumtraks 0002.2" and "Rytumtraks 0020.2" find Van Abbe in brutally deep form, coming off dustier than any of the previous No Comment transmissions and there's a killer contribution from Rudolf Klorzeiger, seemingly coaxed out of hiding to transform "Rytumtraks 0002" into a superb slab of rigid electro.

Review: The second release from No Comment, the mysterious Dutch techno imprint with a penchant for number-heavy track titles, and once again the equally mysterious Albert Van Abbe is at the helm. The menacing rhythmic throb of "NCS 0009121010" is complemented by some increasingly abrasive hats and needle sharp percussion - the way the track progresses and undulates before running its course is a joy to behold! The Heinrich Mueller remodel on the flip has a much less subtle affect; it carries a menacing swagger to the beat which bounds along beneath the highly strung synth work. This shares a side of wax with the ambient bliss of "P4S 1000291010". Essential business pressed up on stush marble vinyl.

Christ brings a bubbling range of synth tones to "Rom" before Norken and Nyquist drop some brooding electro tones over rolling beats on"Od Detot". Review: Some 13 years after founding the fabulous Minimal Wave label, Veronica Vasicka has finally got round to releasing some music of her own. The fact that it's appearing on Regis and Female's long-serving Downwards imprint is a good indication of what's on offer: dark, stylish and mind-altering machine music full of raw, analogue electronics. Vasicka's original version of "From Here" draws great influence from vintage minimal wave, though its' heavy bass, industrial-strength IDM drums and rugged electronic pulses are bang up to date. Regis heads up the remix package, delivering a pulsating version that sits somewhere between new wave, electro and dark Italo-disco. Elsewhere, Paul Kendal's mix brilliantly blends dark ambient and fuzz-laden guitars, while the Chasm Mix is a bustling, delay-laden trip into intergalactic new wave territory.

Review: Dutch producer Samuel Van Dijk continues his aviation themed dissections of subaqueous electro with Flight Control, a superlative debut for the ever excellent Tabernacle imprint. Those who indulged in International Airlines, Van Dijk's debut album for Lunar Disko last year will find much to admire across the four tracks here; lead track "Terminal Code" sets the tone, snapping with a degree of rhythmic viciousness that's straight out of the Gerald Donald school of thought. The title track adopts a more optimistic, star gazing approach with the loose, blurry chords allowed to ripple delicately over the stripped back drums. Face down, "Depressurization" quite brilliantly descends into murky nearsilence at one point whilst "Blue World Below" is perhaps the best example of Van Dijk's capacity for razor sharp percussion and deep set dubbiness.

Happily, B76 Over Land maintains a similar standard, with Van Dijk serving up a pleasingly cold batch of machine jams. Highlights include the fuzzy, cowbell-heavy Rotterdam electro of "Vapor", the skittering techno drone of "Vex", and the frankly wayward, dark ambience of closer "Din". That said, we're also fans of the superb title track, which expertly combines fluid, watery melodies and drifting chords with clattering, mechanical percussion.

Here VC118A return to the imprint with a handsome, polyrhythmic three-tracker backed with a handsome remix. "Click" is a moody, late-night 606 jam, while "Vlucht Naar Nachtschade" brings the tempo down even further to reach sinister levels of deepness. Delta Funktionen's remix is nasty to say the least, heading further into a wormhole of electro doom, and finally, "Variatie Hoogtegraad" strips everything back into a melancholic groove surrounded by lonely, shadowy pads.

Van Dijk is an artist whose been quietly releasing music under a number of different aliases including Mohlao and Multicast Dynamics for some time now but seems to have found his groove with VC-118A. This latest project is a little grittier and more lo-fi than compared to his other ones, where tracks like "Propulse" and "Central Zone" possess a glitchy, minimal tone in a slow-tempo electro coating. On the flipside, "Virile Frame" is a hypnotic and a whole lot more in the vein of classic electro, while Lost Trax remixes "Propulse" into a raging, pseudo-acid monster. Wet and wild.

Review: Some six months on from the release of an undeniably brilliant EP on Frustrated Funk, Samuel Van Dijk slips on his VC-118A guise for a first outing on Delsin. Opener "Vaxna" showcases his well-established dancefloor electro credentials, with the producer wrapping ghostly chords and foreboding noises around a decidedly Drexciya-style groove. Van Dijk goes deeper on the poignant, dreamy and melancholic electro shuffle of "Sepia", before opening side B with the intergalactic wooziness of "25H", where ethereal vocal samples and yearning chords drift across a deep space electro rhythm. Arguably best of all, though, is melodious and life-affirming closing cut "Versicolor", whose effortless beauty and emotive feel is matched only by the punchiness of the producer's beats and bass.

Here, he resurfaces on Frustrated Funk with a five-track EP that tends towards the introspective and melancholy. Of course, there are still notable dancefloor moments - see the locked-in analogue house beats, dubbed-out electronics and held-note bass of "Permutation" and the mid-tempo electro swing of "Verdictia" - but for the most part the EP is a laidback and poignant affair. It's a side of Van Dijk that we don't see that often, but one that he really should explore more. Certainly, the ghostly "Enter" and sorrowful "Sequence" are among the most memorable tracks in his already impressive catalogue.

Review: Jersey City-based Jorge Velez has long been one of the US underground's most revered figures to those in the know. Largely predating the current fascination with lo-fi analogue productions, something shown on the excellent MMT Tape Series compilation which delved into his early archives, his work as Professor Genuis on Italians Do It Better and Thisisnotanexit was followed by the conceptual Hassan LP on L.I.E.S. which provided a soundtrack to an imaginary film based on a shadowy Middle Eastern cult formed in the 11th century. Here Velez return to Ron Morelli's stable with Territories, a six-track LP that passes through "menacing drones to EBM influenced floor tracks to Sakamoto-esque melodic experiments," with a "distinct atmosphere suitable for home listening or adventurous club play." Even for those who are familiar with the odd structures Velez creates with his hardware, this is a wild trip worthy of much closer inspection.

Next up they turn their attention to a reissue of an out of print EP from 1988 by Jordi Guber and Krishna Goineau as Velodrome. Villalobos has been known to drop cuts from it, which should give you a good idea of its musical style: freaky 80s electro built on steppy drums, with taut and twanging synths reverberating around the mix, as exemplified by the opener. "Glasfabrik" is a hyper-speed cut with a tongue in cheek vocal, while "Capataz" is the most well-known joint with its acid bass and crashing hits.
