Review: Back once again we have the long anticipated 2nd release from Hearlucinate . Based around a party in London where each guest DJ is asked to collaborate on an EP with the Hearlucinogenic host and resident Tristan da Cunha . This time round we have the uber talented Ron Obvious laying down two killer cuts aimed straight at the dance floor . UK attitude mixes with New Jersey style organs , breaks , bass and a bad ass beats... Giving us two tracks that have an old school flavour but super fresh with a modern aesthetic. Once again showcasing his ability to produce timeless , tasteful grooves that make you move . Next up is TdC with his bass driven hypnotic hybrid sound . Picking up where from the last ep with heavy bottom end , driving beats , a spooky groove , all topped off with a dash of sleaze. To Finish the EP we welcome back Freakenstein with his electro funk monster taking no booty prisoner. Dance floor dynamite as always from this exciting new artist . As always it comes dressed to impress with heavy weight 180g vinyl and artwork from the workshop of Atelier Superplus.

On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Review: Previous offerings on No Fuss have featured the likes of Saison, Crispin J. Glover and Dean Zepherin, and now the upfront house label brings together another selection of party heaters from a range of producers. Saison makes a welcome return with the feisty "Till The Day I Die", a richly produced vocal jam with plenty of uptempo shuffle in the drums. Risk Assessment lean on the keys to create a melodic mood on "I Don't Understand" and then Saison does it again with the bright and breezy "The Riff". That leaves it to Natasha Kitty Katt to finish things up with the heavy funking disco licks of "Plenty Good" - a get-down cut for all seasons.

Review: In 2003, Japanese nu-jazz maestro Jazztronik released arguably his most potent single to date, a rolling break beat number smothered in breathless piano lines and dreamy female vocal snippets called "Samurai". If you've not heard it or missed out first time around, we'd encourage you to check out the producer's new 2020 version. While it's not vastly different, all of the key elements - beats, piano and the heavenly female vocals - have been re-recorded. As a result, the track has never sounded heavier, brighter, or better. The 12" also includes two superb DJ tools: a drum tool featuring his punchy broken beat rhythms, and a "Piano" mix that showcases his inspiring, virtuoso playing and nothing else. In a word: essential.

Review: Some five years on from the release of his previous EP, Inner Shift boss and former Moods & Grooves regular Brad Peterson returns to action. He effortlessly picks up from where he left of on EP-opener 'Expansion', a near perfect slab of heavily electronic deep house melodiousness rich in bubbly lead lines, opaque chords, vibraphone style melodic motifs and tight, undulating acid lines. 'Star Traveller' is an even deeper and more intergalactic affair where starry synth sounds, echoing chords and wavy pads rise above a chunky groove, while 'Machine Logic' is a chunkier, slightly darker and more analogue-rich affair built around a robust basline. Arguably best of all though is closing cut 'Sun Garden', a sumptuous slice of summery deepness rich in delay-laden flute solos and enveloping electronics.

INNATE 004
  1. Aroy Dee - "Leegte"

  3. Jonski - "Venusian Surface"
  4. DJ Guy - "Aphelion Orbit"
Review: The fourth multi-artist EP from blog-turned-record label Innate takes the imprint's inherently warm and far-sighted sound into new intergalactic directions. Offering a quartet of cuts from established producers and rising stars, all inspired by dreams of cross-cosmic travel and the alluring weightlessness of deep space. 004 explores the love of stargazing electronics in much greater deapth.

The A-side is all about melodious and spacey electro with Dutch legend Aroy Dee making a rare appearance away from his acclaimed M>O>S Recordings label. "Leegte" A1 is impressively immersive, cloaking a jaunty bassline and lo-fi beats in sumptuous aural textures and glassy-eyed chords. Accompanied by Innate label regular Gilbert, "Furthest Planet" A2 is a deep roller whose lilting lead lines, shimmering electronics and tumbling acid lines are little less than life-affirming.

On side B, the sound subtly shifts towards the multi-coloured, sci-fi shimmer of techno. Newcomer Jonski, (aka Bristol electro producer Zobol) drops "Venusian Surface" B1 - a classic interstellar jam full of vivid chords, echoing synth squiggles and alluring leads that rise above a classic tech-funk bassline. Last but not least, effervescent Welshman DJ Guy (Unthank/Other World Music) slams down an energetic techno stomper in "Aphelion Orbit": boasting brilliantly breathless drum programming, illuminated by the celestial shimmer of accompanying chords. A perfect conclusion to Innate's most action-packed release to date.

These four pearlers will be thoroughly useful tools in your utility belt, leading in with the singalong hook of "Only You Baby" which sports a healthy dose of boogie synth work. "You" by way of contrast is a strictly organic funker looped up to perfection. "Got To Dance" takes the tempo down but piles on the groove for this heavy dose of soul, and then "Fever" takes things out on a rolling trip of percussion and classic licks that'll have you sweating in no time at all.

Review: The latest drop on Ornate sees Neil Tolliday's Nail project metamorphose into Sentipede. His illustrious track record in UK house and techno has touched on all kinds of ventures since the DIY days, and now he's presenting something very special indeed for Ornate. The vibe on these tracks is more taut and techy, with "313151" opening proceedings on a bubbling bed of acid before the rubbery monosynth jack of "44151" on the B side. Keeping things locked into this nervy strain of warehouse tackle, "3131154" finishes the record off with some even more audacious 303 lines that will dig right into your synapses and give 'em a twist, in the nicest possible way of course.

No doubt you're already tuning in with high expectations about the calibre of party fodder on offer, and "Hustle" sets the tone pitch-perfect from the get-go. There's a fine balance between disco, boogie and house achieved here, whereas "Hold Up" takes a more purist disco approach (with Philly strings thrown in for good measure). "Disco Version" piles the funk on heavy before "Big Fantasy" rounds things out with some scintillating carnival energy, pushing the party-ready capabilities of this 12" even further.

This is the first of them and, in typically matter-or-fact fashion, features three more undulating, funk-fuelled tech-house jams named after letters of the alphabet. They set the tone with lead cut "H", a fluid, loose-limbed affair that features an attractive mix of bouncy tech-house drums, squelchy bass, hazy vocal samples, tipsy chords and chiming melodies. Over on side B, they first wrap creepy lead lines and clandestine chords around a booming bassline and crunchy drums on "I", before beefing up the beats and reaching for funk-fuelled bass and ear-catching stabs on bona-fide peak-time workout "J".

Matthieu Fauborg's epic opener - the tactile, melodious, dreamy and life-affirming "Please Stay", which more than justifies its 10-minute duration - feels like a statement of intent, while Dub Striker's "Mood" recalls classic New York and New Jersey bumpers of old. Review: A new philosophy as time enters a radical history of our evolution. Being and nothingness in one, creatures of habit, the angels of nature, we can herald a new humanity.

DJN4 enters in homage. Optimus Yarnspinner. Edification through music bends, but does not break the untameable lost voices. This dissolution of ego, where culture exemplifies the principle of innovation through excess, the nocturnal brain sees only what it seeks.

The order of time is more than a conspiracy of the people, this enforced interlude does not mean culture's end. Our culture, music's culture, acts as a genome, a graffiti of society.

The psy, the rave, the sounds, the species, the food of the gods. Alpha Juno, Cyclon 303, mutable instruments and ideas collated, N4's modern mysticism to harness the Earth as a being of sound. This occult features an anarchism, offering us a collective immortality, allowing us, showing us, how to be more humane.

Across eight tracks, our DJ weaves a journey to the inner and outer digi sphere, a two-year search, in to steppas, out of dub, evoking legitimate synthesis and sensibility. Look beyond Zamonia. The lost Chord. An alien dreamtime. Tales of Z.

Cat: AESTHETIC 11.
  1. Quiver
  2. Level Up
  3. AM Rhythm
Review: Adam Nahalewicz made an impressive debut with the warm, bubbling house cut he dropped on Recycle, and now Aesthetic have snapped him up for an EP that expands on the promise of that sole track. "Quiver" leads the way with a wonderfully dynamic strain of bumping tech house peppered with fluid sound design and pinprick textures, while on the flip "Level Up" brings a fresh dose of warm, melodic synth work into the mix while still riding that oh-so crisp groove. "A.M. Rhythm" is equally melodious, albeit a little smoother on the rhythm side of things and with a gentle nature that should suit the up all night crowd beautifully.

Saison team up with Dominique to produce a soulful, sultry, late-night cut that further establishes them as masters of their craft. This is a perfect example of their ability to create deep, underground house music that works on crowds both large and small. Waajeed offers an emotive and classic Detroit take with the vocal . 1. Rame
  2. Melkor
  3. Caterpillar
Review: Malaga's Cuartero is next up on Constant Black, bringing a finely honed minimal house sound that fits into the label's shadowy club aesthetic perfectly. "Rame" is a driving, insistent slice of stripped down house with plenty of subtle wriggles and textures gurgling away under the surface. "Melkor" has some tougher drums, not least around the low end, but the same economy of sonics is applied here where the beat takes the lead and the FX skirt and skitter around the beat. "Caterpillar" has a tougher, less swung accent to its beats, but the chunky drum machine patterns are still executed with that stern focus that makes a minimal track pop off in the mix.

Cat: SHIFT 007. Rel: 30 Nov 20
  1. Universal Sound

  3. Guitar Jam
  4. Really Need To Talk
Review: After the success of his latest release on Tropical Disco Records, Javi Frias is back to his own label Night Shift Records with a new EP of disco reworks featuring four obscure tracks that have now obtained a new life after passing through the hands of the Madrid producer. A side starts with 'Universal Sound' a super soulful disco tune with a house feel, perfect to dance with the hands in the air, and 'On Fire' has that boogie groove that makes you move. On the B side you can find 'Guitar Jam', a little funky number full of nice breaks and superb (obviously) guitar licks and the EP ends with 'Really Need To Talk', an amazing modern soul song that you will not be able to get out of your head in the coming months. Another sure shot release by the owl label!

Review: The brothers OdD return to their self titled label after a two year hiatus with more of that refined, off-centre minimalism they do so well. "Obelisk" is an epic scraping the 12 minute mark with a tapestry of intricate beat design and spacious atmospherics - one to take the dancefloor to some intriguing places deep into the morning. "1M Pendulum" has a more linear house groove, and a plethora of subtle tweaks and wobbles rumbling away in the lower register. "Hotep" closes the B side with a spaced out groover that teeters on the edge of ambient, albeit with a nagging house groove holding everything together.

Review: Casey's musical career spans over three decades having taken up producing in 1989 after a love affair with Acid House. He made his vinyl debut in 1990 with fellow city band, Shades of Rhythm (recording under the name Frenzied Bass) on a limited-edition release called The Fenland Bass EP. In 1991 Casey was signed to Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 records in Canada, where between 1991 and 1995 he released several singles under the names 0733 and VFT.In 1995 Casey set up his own label, Fine Balance Records, where he released a couple of limited edition melodic Techno EP's under his own name. 2. Vertigo Inc - "Numbers"
  3. Asian Psilocybe Foundation - "Wave Control"
  4. Afrobuddha - "Obame (Treat mix)"
Review: After reissuing the classic Cassiopeia by Nail, Mysticisms return with more cosmically charged party cuts geared towards wiggy dancefloors inside and out. The Alchemy 12" brings together some of the label's key characters to date and some new crew, leading in with the heady, sticky thump of Persian's "Worries In The Dance" as faithfully remixed by Jonny Rock. Vertigo Inc eschew common dynamics for a loping, acoustic groove that favours more esoteric spaces while retaining a strange forward momentum and bewildering atmosphere. Asian Psilocybe Foundation get into a trippy strain of tech house with the gorgeous "Wave Control", and then Afrobuddha rounds the set out with the deeply layered Kakatsitsi drumming of "Obame (Treat Mix)".

Review: Utopia Club Tracks, the new 12" dancefloor subdivision by Utopia Records takes a dubbed out direction with legendary UK house producer Neil 'Nail' Tolliday under his 'Smoke' guise. Music for being eyes down in the smoke, these late night cuts expand on the sound of Basic Channel and Rhythm and Sound with extra groove and just enough elements to create a modernist house palette, essential for any DJ that goes deep.

Review: One of the joys of Pets Recordings' output over the last couple of years is how unpredictable it has become stylistically. Basically, you don't know what the next release will bring musically, but more often than not it will be rather good. That's certainly the case on the imprint's latest four-tracker, which sees London producer Jeigo (real name Jack Carr-Miles) flit between driving and occasionally dreamy breakbeat-house dirtiness (the retro-futurist peak-time pump of 'We Are Not Nothing'), Livity Sound-goes-deep house brilliance (the intricate percussion programming and gently swelling chords of 'Far Away'), hazy early morning deep house hypnotism ('FS Melody'), and ultra-deep, UK garage-influenced sunrise wooziness ('Beyond', whose emotive, ear-catching female vocal samples work wonderfully).

  2. Do-re-me
  3. Solfeggio
Review: Starting their 2020 with a bang, OdD swiftly follow up their D Construction EP with another trio of reductionist sure shots for adventurous travelers in the minimal realm. "Pythagorean" lives up to its name with an intricately arranged pattern of percussive threads creating a kind of geometry that crystalises around a sturdy minimal groove. "Do Re Me" features plenty of tripped out FX sweeps and swishy pads that give this roller a dubbed out flavour perfect for the after hours. "Solfegio" switches things up with a crooked broken beat template and some pointed chord drops that really lift the track into an intriguing new realm - this is classy minimal with personality so don't sleep on it!
