Review: Originally released in 1994 and now reissued in 2024, confirming the resurgence of interest in the classic jungle sound, 'Watch Out' is a hard-hitting jungle track with a relentless 'Amen' break, while 'Media' offers a more complex and atmospheric soundscape with a deep, broken bassline.. Review: Strap yourselves in for the return of Missile Vintage with a fifth transmission and this one is a track from the boss himself. Missile Records founder Tim Taylor crafted this banger back in 1992 and released it on the legendary FFRR imprint. It soon made its mark on the rave scene of the time and has remained influential to generations of DJs, dancers and producers ever since. Now it comes back to vinyl in original form, as well as next to a huge Foghorn mix from Micky Finn and a more physical and breaks-lead remix from Blade. Review: Men At Work's 80s hit 'Down Under' gets a LUUDE-icrous drum n' bass remix from the Aussie producer here, bringing flighty breaks and air to a timeless, fluting classic. Here, the original song's bassline is swapped out for a slow droning reese, while Colin Hay's acapella retains the rawness of the original recording made in 1980 - despite this actually being a re-record for Luude gifted by Hay himself. He is a versatile producer who takes no prisoners and considers no sounds off-limits. This one kicks off with the brutalist beats and casuistic synths of 'The Other World' before funky, acid-laced techno bouncer 'Preserve The Rave' takes you to the next level. 'The Man Of The Street' (feat Mike Tansella Jr) is then a deeper, more cosmic cut with thinking synths but still plenty of powerful rhythms and last of all are the dark jungle breaks of 'Hasta La Vista, Baby.' Review: DJ Fresh is a legend at this point. Whenever he drops new heat it is worth tuning in, especially when it's a 12" picture disc like this from Breakbeat Koas. The A-side is a collab with Buunshin. 'Dancing In the Dark' is a hardcore gem with pitched-up vocals and monstrous breaks over spin backs, raw bass and thrilling synth lacerations. Then comes an AMC Remix of DJ Fresh's 'Heavyweight' that is just that. Review: Now here's an artist name that works on various clever levels. Not just a play on the experimental, boundary breaking electronic troupe of the 80s Art Of Noise but also the alias for Suburban Base's in-house designer who was responsible for countless artworks and album covers on the label throughout the 90s. As a musician he was less prolific but still knew exactly what buttons to press and when to press them with a handful of releases around 93-95 along with Mike 'E-Type' James. Now back together, they're exploring their old signature but with a contemporary twist. A full album is expected imminently but in the meantime here are four great examples of their timeless aesthetic and energy. Make some noise.

Review: Long time underground UK stalwart Zed Bias dropped this - one of his many seminal cuts - back in 1999. Now, the dark garage classic 'Neighbourhood' gets reissued alongside some remixes. In its original form, it has an alluring vocal charm with unsettling chords over a grinding bassline and sharp percussion. The El B remix brings fleshier low ends and more swagger and shuffle while the vocals remain in place to blow up your spot. To close out the EP, Dawn Raid remixes with a high-energy jungle sound full of old-school signifiers. A proper EP for proper dance floors.

Review: ScruScru is a name you might well recognise but it is fair to say you might not recognise his work on this first release from Talkbox. He shows a very different side off the back of plenty of top edits that bottle up plenty of disco and Bossanova vibes. Here he has teamed up with Russia's dubplate don BR Selecta for an EP full of energy and joy. 'YEAH YEAH' is happy-go-lucky garage with pitched-up vocals and lively drum, 'Get My Gruv' is a kinetic two-stepper and 'Cyberrave' is just that with its all-out synth madness and flurries of breaks, then 'Serious Talking' closes out on a darker jungle tip. A varied and vital 12' for sure.

This release resurrects the original mixes alongside some iconic remixes from the 90s, encapsulating a significant chapter in the jungle movement. A landmark release, not only signifiying a pivotal era in jungle but also marking the inaugural release on Philly Blunt, kicking things off as they were meant to go on. Crafted in Dillinja's home studio under the collaborative genius of Jumpin Jack Frost, in turn operating under the moniker Leviticus, the original mixes appear in full force here - 'Madamoselle' and 'Lovers Rock' - resonating with rare groove and reggae influences that each propel the track to Notting Hill Carnival fixture status, eventually catching the ear of Pete Tong who facilitated a mainstream release on FFRR the following year.

Review: UKJ keeps the flame of old-school breaks and jungle afire with its latest four-track V/A 12", with contributions from label co-boss Junglord, Supa Ape, Sully, OmniRhythm and Simply Dread all in tow for the inflammatory sacrifice. Unlike your usual jungle, these four cuts verge on the insane, thanks to this label's commemorative grounding in the earliest days of jungle in its hardcore breaks and graff-adjacent days. We wager that back then, there was more room for experimentation before the "sound" got standardised and fetishised. Here's a cogent recollection of that time - a time of vocal one-shots, dramatic classical music samples and rave stabs, sure - but above all, just a generally wilder and more rapacious indulging of the promise of what was once called breakscience; Junglord's 'Ready For Retaliation' and Dread's 'Hard To Tell' tend towards UK hardcore on this front, ultrafast breaks-drilling and buzzsawing away, with glee.

Review: The North Quarter locks in another superbly stylish EP of functional but characterful drum & bass rhythms here. This one comes from LIN000 and features bunch of self titled tracks. The first is a supper, with fluid bass and low end oscillations. The second is more roomy and cancerous. It operates in an underwater world of bendy bass and crisp hits, then the flip side opens with a more raw, textural and fixing mix of synths and clacking hits before the closer pairs a high speed breakbeat with synths that twist and turn at their own speed.

Review: Wilkinson's smash hit 'Afterglow' is given a limited repress on a pretty slice of golden marbled wax, harkening back to a time when the drum n' bass artist lay just on the cusp of stardom. The original press of 'Afterglow', arguably one of the most important songs to galvanize drum n' bass as a truly Top-40-worthy style for the 2010s, has long been out of print. However, that never stopped the song from reaching public stardom, in large part thanks to its contributing vocals from Becky Hill and its lesser known jump-up B-side, 'Perforation'.

Review: Fresh from his maximal debut album 'Unbearable Lightness', Colombian Rachiid Paralyzing returns to an older project that he's been incubating since 2018. Essentially the sound of him refining his signature and focus, both cuts are more functional than his more experimental stuff now but both still defy the usual tropes and typicalities of breakbeat music. 'Mi Mama Dic K No' subverts ideas of electro as shades of melody morph, mutate and overlap over growling bass while 'Run Miami Run' is an all-out acid/breaks riot jam. A very interesting release - especially if you're still recovering from the mind-exploding matter of his recent album. Run come get some.

These are four hugely involving and atmospheric tracks steeped in ambiance. 'Ogman' is humid, dusty and spiritual with its late-night bass subtleties and sustained chords. Review: Bournemouth institution Drumfunk launch a brand new foundation-flavoured imprint Junglefunk. Bossman Judda takes the lead with a hardcore jungle edge. 'Damn Right!' is a concentrated headbutt of hardcore elements tightly wrapped up in a positive affirmation; big detuned stabs, rusty breaks and hypey vocal samples. 'Let Me Tell U' touches more on the ravey elements with pitched up vocals and more focus on the riff. Damn good.

Review: Brighton imprint Furthur Electronix continues full steam ahead with its prolific output this year, and it's a big week for them. Alongside a great EP by Aussie Lou Karsh, we have this new one by Greek producer George Kontogiannidis aka Pera Sta Ori, who has racked up some impressive releases thus far on Musar, Brokntoys and Yellow Machines. As on previous works, the Sick Apian EP further explores Kontogiannidis' love of classic UK rave sounds. For instance A side cut 'Antio Zoi (TGRCCC)' utilises pitch shifted hardcore breaks underpinned by a dystopian electro atmosphere. Over on the flip, its '95 all over again on the breakneck junglist stepper 'Xypna' followed by the complex and hypnotic riddims of 'KodS0520 Fyllorroo'.

Review: Does drum and bass get any better than this? Two of the finest names in the genre club together for "Run Away", met in the middle by the man like Fox who puts his vocal stylings into the mix. Rolling out smooth, it's that lulling bassline and softly-spoken chorus that takes the edge off punchy drums and signature Intalex-style strings from the pad section. Fans have been waiting for a release on this for some time now - finally, it's ownable. Showing that they can still deliver tastier goods for the dancefloor, "Something Heavy" is a funk-fuelled hips-mover with Fox sending out his raggamuffin sounds over down and dirty bass. You've heard it in the dance, now get it on repeat.

Review: As heard smashed on Vision Radio by Noisia on several occasions, original US junglist UFO! gets real on the beautifully named Psycho Bummer label. Four cuts of chaotic choppy-choppage and Amen splinters, this represents everything that's exciting about modern jungle right now. 'Level Up' and 'Big Up All' are all about the bashy bumps and shunts, 'Operation Drag N Drop' is a lot more nostalgic with its jazzier drums and emotional pads while 'Feed The Cat' tickles the whiskers with big drums and a mystical charm. Impeccable work, our advice is to identify this flying object as soon as you can!

Review: As if Marcus Intalex and ST Files' M.I.S.T project wasn't quite enough soul power back in the 2000s, along came the eminent Dominick Martin, adding a big 'Cal' at the end. There's a wealth of material from the trio out there, a lot of which hasn't been digitised, and, as you'd expect from such a trio, the tracks haven't dated in the slightest. Both 'Just A Little Herb' and 'Memory Log' still soothe the soul with 170BPM charm. The former celebrates the sticky stuff with shimmering skanks and happy-slapping Amens while the latter takes you on a cruise around the d&b cosmos. Beautiful. What a reissue. Marcus Intalex RIP!

Review: The Craft Music label is back after a one year break with some fresh new cuts by resident Marco Lazovic. It's an EP inspired by the sound of the English club scene in the nineties and noughties, labels like Good Looking Records and artists such as Mike Millrain. Opener 'Losin Control' sure is a compelling mix of electro and breaks that soars on cosmic lines with euphoric vocals in the distance. 'Come To London' has a distinctly garage feel to it with its crisp broken beats and there is more high energy but melody-rich breakbeat action in 'Dark Gravity' while 'Space Jazzy' is s super sweet and deep jungle cruiser.
