Exit (3:45)
Endless (4:40)
Review: While Brown Fang (Jon Thompson and Henry Scott) have worked with Huw Costin as Torn Sail before, this tidy two-tracker marks the first time a record has been jointly credited to their two projects. Naturally, the Nottingham trio has pulled out all the stops to make sure that the release is as memorable as possible. They set the tone with 'Exit', a suitably gorgeous, sofa-ready shuffler in which glistening guitars, bubbly electronics and dreamy chords ride a warming bassline and sparse, minimalistic beats. On 'Endless', the three East Midlands-based friends explore their ambient inspirations, laying down an immersive soundscape that you'll want to get lost in again and again.

Repulsion
Isa
Attraction
Review: The interesting cross pollination of sounds and ideas currently gestating around the Avian and Mira camps throws up its most intriguing proposition yet in Burma Camp. This is the newly adopted alias of Nicholas Wood, frontman of The KVB, a duo recently referred to as "the son and daughter of reverb" and one of this year's breakthrough acts. Wood has previous form with Mira, having collaborated with Ventress on his recent turn as Worn, and Repulsion finds him sinking deep into the realm of droning industrial delay across three experimental excursions. The influence of Downward boss Regis is apparent throughout, with the vicious, industrial techno grot of "Isa" standing out.

Test 7 (7:54)
Test 3 (vocal version) (7:13)
Test 2 (8:05)
Test 3 (7:10)
Review: The now ten year old 'Acid Test 09' sees a special tenth Anniversary Edition repress with a new vocal mix of the track 'Test 3'. The original EP, released in 2014, saw acid nomad Tin Man team up with techno dreamweaver Donato Dozzy for three slices of deep acid and dubby, bleepy ambient; this special anniversary version adds a surprise new vocal mix on the A2, with either Dozzy or Tin Man himself gracing the beats with a set of carefree, moony phonic impressions, lyrically concerning the object of his affections looking oh so good on the dancefloor. We already know and love the rest; it's up to you to put the new addition to the test.

Review: Siamese Twins Nic Ford, Khun Fluff, and Temple Rat team up with sonic reinterpreters Jonathan Kusuma, Konduku and Higher Intelligence Agency, for the Katha Remixes - adding to the recently popularised genre of amphibious techno. While the label Siamese Twins normally go for cassette, this neat precision V/A release is a yellow vinyl number. Like a noctile toad stalking the night, the tracks here range from dark organic chuggers to jumpy synaptors to melodic bloopers, all reflecting different facets of the amphibian master genome.

DB.Source & Riccardo Schiro - "Montevago" (3:02)
Dynamo Dreesen - "Reactivate" (7:59)
Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung - "Tunnel Visjon" (5:31)
Acidboychair - "The End (At Any Speed)" (4:48)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Gravity Graffiti has been doing great things with its series of split 12"s already, but now the Italian label goes one better for its tenth release with this mighty double pack of heavy hitters. First up is the ever-untouchable Yoshinori Hayashi, who gets as straight up as he possibly could with the freaky house burner "Dissociative." Telephones is feeling particularly dubbed out and groovy on "Kalimbalimbo", while DB.Source and Riccardo Schiro take things strung out and textural on "Montevago". Dynamo Dreesen is in rave mode for the pepped up and delightfully weird "Reactivate", leaving the final side to Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung's chugging "Tunnel Visjon" and the rubbery side swipes of Acidboychair's "The End (At Any Speed)".

Jamie XX - "Sunrise"
Four Tet - "Dew"
Koreless - "Horizon"
John Talabot - "Aim"
Review: As part of the mandatory Record Store Day celebrations, Young Turks pull together productions from Jamie XX, Four Tet, Koreless, and John Talabot for a limited 7" release. The more attentive followers of Young Turks will know the music here originates from a commission by artists Sofi Mattioli and Rebecca Salvadori who enlisted the four to provide short compositions for their film Continuum. The two minute productions were available to download for free at the time, but Young Turks obviously felt there was an audience out there that would want the music in a more tangible, and collectible, format. Of the four, it's the rather epic "Horizon" from Koreless that hits the hardest.

Pioneers EP
Cat: ENAU 006. Rel: 23 Apr 20
Johanna Knutsson & Lioness - "Oramics" (6:23)
Tora Vinter & Lioness - "Delian Archives" (6:15)
Fjader & Lioness - "There There Theremin" (feat Ravens'vor) (7:39)
Review: Each successive EP on Nikki Pryke AKA Lioness' Envelope Audio imprint has been a multi-artist affair, offering tracks that explore the margins of techno, electro and ambient. The label's latest EP follows this template, with Pryke playing a central role on a selection of tracks that veer towards the more slowly shifting and spacey end of the ambient spectrum. Pryke first joins forces with Johanna Knutsson on the languid, synthesizer-heavy bliss of "Oramics", before collaborating with Tora Vinter on "Delian Archives", a fine tribute to Radiophonic Workshop pioneer Delia Derbyshire rich in icy motifs and modular bleeps and glitches. Arguably best of all though is B-side "There, There, Theremin", a celestial ambient excursion crafted by Pryke and Fjader that wraps deconstructed Theremin sounds and ghostly chords around tactile, easy-going electronics.

Review: Meeting Point bring us four slices of moody but musical experiments from the point at which broken beat and bass culture meet. The slow motion of skeletal skank of 'Brass Beat' shows that the duo are capable of tempting plenty of character out of their machines, while 'Morning Air', with its highly pitched synth glories and stop start drums, also show they're not in the least bit bothered about fitting into existing genre frameworks. Fascinating stuff.

Andre Hjem (6:24)
Andre Hjem (SPCE mix) (9:31)
Det Hurtige Track (8:00)
Gir Mig Hen (3:32)
Review: Gravity Graffiti have released some great work in the last year by the likes of Marcello Napoletano, Soichi Terada and Yoshinori Hayashi. It is now the turn of Danish producers Natal Zaks aka Palta and his brother Milan Zaks aka Ti. They head up the Help Recordings imprint. Starting off with the the lo-fi deep house of "Andre Hjem" while the SPCE mix up next is more sci-fi and tribal: really nice this one. On the flip, we've got the tripped out ambient house of "Det Hurtige Track" which is just made for drifting and the EP's standout moment. Finally we get treated to the most uptempo moment on the release with "Gir Meg Hen" it's just a pity it only goes for three minutes as we'd have loved to have heard those funky polyrhythms trance us out a bit longer.

Palta & Ti - "Pa Hovedet I Seng" (8:03)
Palta & Ti - "12 O Dub" (5:46)
Palta - "Forarets Skorhed" (10:21)
Review: Expertly crafted both technically and musically (in the label's own words) 12th Isle are more than excited to present their fifth instalment by Aarhus based duo Palta & Ti aka Natal & Milan Zaks. They collaborate for the second time since their first EP together on Gravity Graffiti last year. The Palta Og Ti Pa Den Tolvte O EP is a nice trip if we do say so ourselves. From the deep tribal atmospherica of "Pa Hovedet I Seng" (calling to mind Porn Sword Tobacco & SVN's Recording sessions) or the beatless cosmic experience of "Forarets Skorhed" which is perfect for those moments of travelling without moving. More great stuff from this terrific label after standout releases by Ramzi, Cru Server and X.Y.R. in recent times.

Deviancy (5:12)
Scythe (7:02)
Wistful (reprise) (3:09)
Review: Phonogramme Recordings compere five sweet but breathy jam-house bits from producer Taelue, overseeing the highly anticipated new EP that is 'Dark Worlds'. From the opening, downcast kicks and singing wine glasses of 'Wistful' - full of wist - to the nominal sequel 'Wistful (An Abacus Story)', a much trickier, more swung version of the prior track, to which only more considered listens reveal a relation, we find ourselves already in for a moody yet relaxing treat. The B-side ekes a jam-packed marrow from the A-sides otherwise fleshy bone, erring more on lo-fi; 'Deviancy' and 'Scythe' echo Delroy Edwards with their twin skittish, muted movements, whilst the B3 reprise of 'Wistful' homes in on the lone backing for the establishing number.

Waterland (feat Olli Aarni) (2:36)
Review: Otto Taimela makes transportive music - ambient and deep listening electronica to lift and change moods, open inner eyes and invoke the imagination as much as memories. Hear him explain the ideas being the tracks, thought, and he's far more straight talking. "[I] couldn't find any acoustic covers of these two masterpieces by Gigi Masin from 1989, so decided to give it a go with one of my biggest local musical idols, Olli Aarni who I am proud to call my friend. "I consider the original tracks quite holy, so it took me years of courage to ask Olli to record these with me. Never had any goal to release these in any professional way, we just had an idea, for fun, to salute the golden era of YouTube when people made these poorly recorded acoustic YouTube covers." Making it all sound so simple, what we have here are two elegant and thoughtful piano pieces, pouring with emotion.

Review: The late Edgar Froese-fronted German band Tangerine Dream are cult heroes to those of us who enjoy proto-electronic sounds. From kosmisch to prog, new age to kraut, they did it all and then some and were still going by 2011 when they released Mona Da Vinci. The album showcases the band's signature mystical soundscapes and was created by Froese before his passing with a mix of ambient, electronic and cinematic elements and plenty of his pioneering synth work. The album remains a standout in the band's vast catalogue and has been remastered for this release so its ethereal textures and evocative melodies sound superb and stand as a testament to Froese's enduring influence.

Review: Don't sleep on this one. Anything on Feral Child has a habit of selling out quicker than you can say "please, sir, can I have some more", and given this is the return of the incredible Tape to the imprint we'd say it's gonna move faster than most. Five tracks that exude sophistication, bliss, thoughtfulness, and the kind of musical excellence the Swedish outfit seem capable of invoking without much effort. Or perhaps that's just how it feels when lost in their achingly beautiful arrangements. Spatiality has always been a significant factor in how their work is heard, and Refrains is no different. Tracks seem to free the mind from constraints, allowing enough room to consider, wonder, dream and imagine, newfound emancipation at the hands of entrancing strings, guitars, and deeply atmospheric electronics.

Review: The latest issue of Electronic Sound celebrates the pioneering work of Telex, the Belgian synth-pop pioneers who lurk just beyond the wider appreciation they so richly reserve. Marc Moulin, Dan Lacksman and Michel Moers broke the mould when they emerged in the late 70s, even predating the likes of Yello in their artful melding of arch humour and groundbreaking electronics. As well as diving deep into the story of the group in the pages of the magazine. Electronic Sound continue their trend of exclusive 7"s for the collectors with this yellow record featuring the English language versions of Telex classics 'Moskow Diskow' and 'Euro-Vision'.

Corner Song (Jex Opolis remix) (7:58)
Review: Both "Corner Song" and "The Flying Man" were first featured on Tempelhof and Gigi Masin's second collaborative album, 2016's arguably overlooked album Tsuki. Both are naturally worthy of a single release, though, as they deserve wider recognition. Both are quietly beautiful, drowsy and hazily picturesque, with gently percussive opener "Corner Song" just edging out the beat-less brilliance of "The Flying Man" - in which Masin delivers a weary and heart-aching vocal - in the "best track" stakes. On the flip you'll find a radical re-interpretation of "Corner Song" by New York producer Jex Opolis, who wraps Tempelhof and Masin's glistening guitars around a wonderfully colourful and tactile Balearic boogie groove.

Review: American Terre Thaemlitz aka DJ Sprinkles pretty much completed deep house with her album Midtown 120 Blues back in 2009, then put out Where Dancefloors Stand Still, one of the best ever deep house compilations in 2013. Now back on her own Comatose Recordings, she is still in deep musical waters but here with elements of dub, ambient and plenty of field recordings on new single 'Hovering Glows.' It's is a gorgeous work that gets a Little Guy remix that rides on loose drums, and vinyl mix that goes even longer. A sublime 12", no doubt.

Fina Departue (long version) (10:03)
Review: 'Tranquilizer' first came about in 1994 as a one-off EP released via Instinct Ambient, a sublabel of Instinct Records active until 1997. But Terre Thaemlitz isn't one to settle on just one iteration of her craft; so now the record comes reissued and repackaged as 'Tranquilizer 2', making up for what the artist - in a signature spell of charming cantankery - reveals was a "cliche" unfair record deal. Add to this that the grid of pillows on the original front cover misled its Japanese audience into thinking they were bags of heroin, resulting in no end of sordid misunderstandings, as was characteristic of the 90s. With no distributor in tow, Thaemlitz regales the romantic tale of toting copies of the CD at record shops, where in which only a fraction were sold under "sale-or-return" consignment policies, the reality being that few record shops actually ever realised their promises. Unfair indeed, for the music on this serene classic is like no other, with Thaemlitz's trademark ambient house stasises spanning everything from monologuing dream analyses ('Hovering Glows') to mockingly farcical, but no less captivating, pastiches of "ethno-ambient" ('Fat Chair').

This is a special ordeal.
