Selador Decade Vol 1
3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Review: O-Wells and 41ISSA team up for their first joint EP, with three tracks full of big room manoeuvres that clock in somewhere between electro, techno and trance, plus a Sansibar remix of 'Encoder' to complete the package. 'Suzuki' outrageously throbbing sequencers bring the decadence of electroclash to mind, but the likes of 'Are You Ready' and 'Pulse' are more gradual builders, with a touch of Carl Craig in his 69 mode. The Sansibar mix is a bleepy electro cut blessed with plenty of drama. Nice work all round.

Meringueatang (7:12)
Review: A Trifle Too Far, the collaboration between Essex natives Simon Ward and Tony Grimley, crafted this forward-thinking duo of tracks, inspired by their explorations of the acid house scene and rave culture. Catch Your Ear and Meringueatang embody the innovative spirit of early 90s prog-house. Engineered by Evren Omer of Strategy Records and Matt Clayden of X-Gate Records, respectively, these tracks remain a rare and exhilarating find. Mint Condition is reviving the essence of classic house and techno with their latest reissue: the elusive 1992 EP 'Catch Your Ear/Meringueatang' from A Trifle Too Far. This release is a thrilling addition for collectors and DJs, rekindling the excitement of a bygone era.

Review: Russian techno producer Abdul Raeva returns for 'Age Of Infinity', flaunting the artist's "hyperelastic" wiggly techno style. The eponymous A-sider sounds like gazing into a self-affirming reality tunnel with an unusual level of confidence and glee, while the following 'Alpha Track' does just the same, albeit with ultra-energized "go" samples and robotic synth grunts intstead. The suggestive 'Speed Dance' follows, with amplified bass zaps knocking around the left and rights like fireflies, while the Hard Dub of former Be Told Lies heater 'Mercury' rounds things off with impressive moodiness and largesse.

Review: An electrifying journey through relentless acid and high-energy techno as Acid Asian goes in hard. The title track, 'Deep Soul', sets the pace with a fierce acid trance vibe, pulling listeners into its hypnotic rhythm. 'Space Colors' escalates the energy with epic, pounding euphoric trance, creating a sweeping sense of exhilaration. Side-2 kicks off with 'Ain't Nobody Like Us', a hardcore techno banger that's percussive, catchy and impossible to ignore. Closing with 'Humans', the EP dives into heavy, intense techno, wrapping up with a powerful and gritty finish. From start to finish, a high-octane, genre-blending ride that masterfully mixes acid, trance and techno, creating a standout release for those who like their beats pulsating and energetic.

Alric Aerial - "Tough Cuts" (5:26)
Electrodynamique - "We Are The City" (5:08)
Electrodynamique - "Night Life" (6:04)
Review: Clut deliver a specialised clout-glut with a fresh split EP from rising artist Alric Aerial, who here teams up with yet another artist who's so far flown under the label's radar - Electrodynamique. Here the pair deliver four electro-dancefloor tracks primed for every situation: sleazy bar, backlit festival stage, ironic doomsday scenario, you name it. This EP's cascading sixteenths flow like metallic droplets, their acid lines and FM blurps splurging forth with increasing restlessness and impertinence, and decreasing self-control. Particularly squelchy is Aerial's 'Tough Cuts', which moves trigger-happy on the cutoff filter whilst dungeon-bound sine tones splay across the top edges of the track, like ectoplasms left behind after a string of Zeno's paradoxes have been solved. 'We Are The City' by Electrodynamique indulges a final emery note, abrading its curveball electro mix to a grinding, apocalyptic oblivion.

Dreams Of Wrestlers (5:44)
Review: A new collaboration of Philoxenia Records founders Luigi Di Venere and Neu Verboten, Affekt Unit is informed by an aim to "spark new feelings on the dancefloor". The three track Discorgy EP celebrates their musical obsessions - Italo house, Frankfurt EBM-house and trance - with the result proving an electrifying crossover of these classic genres together with surprising new sounds. 'Oct-Opus' boasts a serious electro component, fused with progressive trance, UK bass, techno, transcendental rave and even a climactic outbreak of rave-era breaks. The title track 'Discorgy' draws from Euro dance and EBM, experimenting with a polyrhythmic bass line and bringing the kind of 'stadium house' that The KLF were always aiming for. Closing track 'Dreams Of Wrestlers' is cosmic house at its sweetest and beefiest, spruced here and there with Italo stabs and pianos, drum machine fills and some lovely subtle filtering. Not so much a case of something for everyone than everything from everyone, you might even say.

Review: The remastered release of 'The Age of Love' breathes new life into this trance classic while updating it with two new fresh remixes by huge names in DJing. Charlotte De Witte & Enrico Sangiuliano's remix retains the iconic melody while infusing it with a modern techno rhythm, creating a fresh peak moment. Review: Charlotte de Witte & Enrico Sangiuliano come together to serve up a very personal remix of the hugely influential self-titled classic by Age Of Love. The latter artists originally wrote their best-known track in 1990, shortly after which it became an instant favourite on the global trance circuit. Review: Agents Of Time return to Afterlife with the 'Midnight Drive In Santiago', EP following on from their debut Forest Of Lies in 2018. Though they fit well within the Afterlife oeuvre, the Chilean trio nonetheless channel a singular sound, bringing synthy, Miami-vice-gripped arp builds to a downtempo pace, amounting to a no less than composed but exciting take on the vintage sonic sublime. Most of us haven't been to Santiago to experience what it might be like to night-drive there; but we're more than sure that this EP will still survive the car test and provide a worthy vicarious alternative, with the toothy cascades and chromatic synth swells of 'Midnight Drive' and emergent arps of 'Chain Reaction' making for a compelling second-best.

Review: Lirica White Series makes its debut here with the first 12" from AI Robot. There is an element of humanity and real emotion in these sounds right from the off: 'Chicago Babussa' is a bustling and percussive techno cut with some zippy leads that head off to the cosmos. 'Desert Earth' again blends tribal percussion with retro-future synth sounds and chunky grooves that will sound great nice and loud. 'Dynamic' is a throwback proto-house sound with crashing hits and twitchy pads and 'Electric Love' closes out with some pulsing acid lines and a more pensive feel in the chord structures. Four fresh cuts that get this label off to a good start.

The year 1985 not only gave the electronic world the legendary ''No ufos'' EP from Model 500, but at the same time as Markus Lange was born. Four tracks of cosmic trance and melodic techno appear, flaunting the many mysterious melodies and sine-toned timbres Hornbostel would have included had he been in charge of transmitting the Wow! signal. Inspired by a fascination with space exploration, the likes of 'Nebula III' and 'Uranus' are interplanetary rather than interstellar jaunts, but all nail the feeling of teary-eyed wonder at staring down at one's home planet from the observation deck, having succeeded in defending it against some awful death-ray cataclysm.

Now he arrives on underground trance label UTE.REC with four blasts of hi-tech trip-out gear, keeping the pace right up there without resorting to heavy-handed production methods. This first release on new UK label People & Places finds AW throwing down a steady tempo slammer on 'Higher Planes' and ramping up the psychoactive ingredients on 'Into The Void', while 'Lost' edges towards a more typical peak time techno pulse. 'Cloud' completes the set with some trippy delights that land as comparatively chirpy compared to much of the AW output.

Review: The Hyperdrive label is back with a third outing which once again offers up some exciting and forward-thinking new artists. Anderson's 'Sweet Psylow' kicks off with some psychedelic synth loops over crisp tech house drums that hark back to the 90s prog heyday. HearThuG's 'Back To The Future' is a darker sound with whistles, snappy snares and eerie chords and Luis Malon & Seb G then combine for the bouncing techno rhythms and acid-laced pads of 'Extasis Nebular.' The UK veteran unleashed these surefire cuts back in 1993 and they have certainly aged gracefully. The A-side's 'Original Man' is soulful techno the way it's meant to be; a true zeitgeist of Detroit influenced techno with its DX sounds and syncopated 909 rhythms, while B-side offering 'Quarter Pounder' brings the future funk on this properly slamming cut. Review: Hyperdrive's label debut was a biggie that brought together old and new-school techno on one fizzing EP. The follow-up comes soon after and this time makes no bones about being a Rave Revival. Anthrophia's 'The Voice' kicks off with what is a hefty breakbeat cut with edgy rave stabs and slamming bass. Dimension 23 - 'Fascination' (Seb G mix) then takes a more stripped-back approach with turbocharged synths layered up over silky drums. Centuras brings plenty of bright, euphoric prog energy to the urgent drum funk of 'Jizz' and last of all Dimension 23's 'The Eagle' then kicks out more dusty old-school breaks with machine gun synth fire. A potent EP, make no mistake.

Fronting the release is a wonderful rework of Stockholm trio Art Fact's 'Rain In The South' from 1989, to which Francesco Farfa and Hamsa bring extra electronic-bodyweight to an originally dripping synth tune. Review: Vinyl sampler from John Digweed's long running Bedrock imprint to accompany what is, amazingly, the first album from Marco Bailey in seven years. Whilst the album sees the veteran Belgian flex his production muscle with a set of tracks that veer between downtempo and the more usual tough dancefloor cuts, this sampler very much focuses on the latter. Proceedings commence with the Moroder-ish hedonism of "Bom Bang!", characterised by menacing arpeggiated bass that rises and drops in all the right places. Alongside this are the rubbery main-room jack funk of "Rubber Band", the driving tropical thump of "Break The Rules" and the twisted acid freakery of "Beaming". All this means you'll have to indulge in the album proper to hear "Bill The Trumpet Player" - a deliciously jazzy stomper that recalls Garnier's "The Man With The Red Face".

It kicks off with a new EP 'Starlit Crates' which has already been teased by the well-received 'Have You Ever Played in Abidjan' (exclusive aired on Juno Daily), which paid tribute to that vibrant city and the Ivory Coast. 'Have You....' is a collaboration with percussionist Tutsy N'Zore, who adds great layers to Bertho's deep grooves, but there's loads going onelsewhere too.. 'Let Me Show You' has what sound like ambient recordings from a bustling market over bass-driven beats. 'Blue Hot Monday' is another humid and muggy deep techno mind melter and 'Shaved' is a crisp, tech-edged cut with frazzled synth work for peal time deployment. A great example of making functional, floor-pleasing grooves that have oodles of personality and character at the same time.

The victim of horrible scalping, it's well overdue for a rerelease. Review: The new four-tracker from Chicaiza through Kimchi Records is decidedly impressive, finding reams of emotive expression in a knowing, but well-wrought gaudy-trance rawness. We clock we're in for a trippy one from the off; 'Frgil Bodies' hears an opening vocal natter with the intonation of a leprechaun under the influence of some lab-bought compound; and not long before the crudest of crude yet rudest of rude drum flows ensues. Then 'Metaphorical Nihlusiions' follows with a continually janky, but frankly wicked still, tunnel-toss through noetic synth flicks and gurglingly good bass groundings, throwing shade on false nihilations in the process. The understory opens up considerably with 'Shinobi', with trophic psychic layers and bushwalking sproutings-forth, culminating in a canopied trance lead atop. Finally, 'No Way' flushes an excess of chitinous, skin-shedded beats and leftover bass nacres, depositing them on the forest floor like lap-up fruits ripe for the taking.

CK - "Lock" (6:26)
Ben Boe - "Neighbourhood Quasar" (CK remix) (6:06)
Review: C.K. is a Danish producer best known for his work in 2 Bit Crew and Regelbau, but he's more recently been focusing on his Private Recording System label, which strides into its ninth release with a little outside input from Ben Boe. C.K. himself leads on the A-side with 'Lock', a solid house-geared workout with plenty of immersive melodic threads tipping the vibe towards the proggy end of things. Meanwhile on the flip Boe's 'Neighbourhood Quasar' gets the remix treatment from C.K., who flips it into a bouncy, 909-powered jam for dancefloor dreamers the world over.

Foundation (Fade Out)
Poptones
Review: As you might expect from the Frozen Border camp, there's nothing but proper, no-nonsense techno to be found on this EP from Joe Cocherell, who appeared once before in his entire career on Frozen Border 08. The first track works around a dry arrangement of finely balanced percussion, planting itself firmly in the DJ tool camp with its unflinching precision. "Foundation (Fade Out)" is a little more dramatic with its central melodic hook rising and falling in intensity, but it's "Poptones" that should have people freaking out with its beautifully resonating chimes playing out in a circular fashion.

Review: Afterlife Recordings' latest debutante Coeus is left to wonder what lies 'Beyond Dreaming', using the mode of progressive house to peek beyond the veils of both reality and the astral plane, sonically pondering the metaphysical planes that subtend them. Or, in layman's terms, this four-track EP is dreamy and cool, and would work all too well when dropped on both real-world dancefloors and those in your dreams. All slow burners, but channelling a fascination with scenery and buildups, the likes of 'Horizon' and 'Momentum' evoke trawling endless deserts and somehow pulling of free parties in parched middles-of-nowhere.

Review: Concept Werkstatt is an experimental project, not defined by identity but by pure sound and vision. It offers a space, say the eponymous producer behind the beats, where music exists for its own sake, free from ego and expectation. The first transmission is a useful one that taps into tool-like techno. The opener is in a hurry to get you under its spell with dusty drums and fluttering percussion. 'Stahlwerk 102' is more raw with unsettling vocals beaming in as if down a badly tuned radio and two flip-side cuts keep things wonderfully weird.

Alfred Czital & Ayu - "Love Letter From Montevideo" (6:18)
Review: Alfred Czital and Ayu return for their third collaboration and second outing on this Prague-based label. This tightly curated EP blends melodic techno with futuristic trance textures. The result is a spacey and emotionally charged journey. The A-side opens with Czital's solo cut 'Universal Language', is a soaring piece of melodic techno that builds with elegance and power. Ayu's 'Magnetic' follows as an uptempo workout with clever vocal fragments and percussive precision. On the B-side, the duo join forces. 'Physical' is a clear homage to late 90s trance, evoking memories of peak-time anthems with lush pads, glimmering synth leads and a sense of emotional urgency. 'Love Letter From Montevideo' closes the EP on a deeper, darker note that is rooted firmly in techno. A sleek, high-level fusion of techno and trance that pushes both genres forward while nodding respectfully to their roots.

Review: This is the 13th release for the Czech Republic techno label Harmony Records and sees a return of a regular contributor in Alfred Czital plus Ayu. This joint EP sees two pieces that are co-produced and then a single track by each, which gives the record a unique flow. 'The Robbery' is an upbeat breakbeat that strides the line between techno and trance. We like how these songs stay in the sweet spot and don't go overboard into a cheesiness like with 'In The End'. For a more psy-trance and techno track to keep in the groove is the refreshing. 'Body High', giving us big flashbacks of warehouse raves in 1994. We love the energy these sustain. With a psy influence throughout, fans of futuristic techno will love these darker bangers.

He rebooted his career after a 16 year hiatus a few years ago and has been more prolific than ever, with releases on Childhood Electronix, Cartulis, and Hizou Deep Rooted Music. The Modern Utopia Thoughts EP is dedicated to his youth and influenced by future visions of creation, featuring early '90s UK techno sounds that are very much in fashion at the moment ('Dysfunctional / 'Libertarian On A Mission') deep subterranean 303 acid journeys Modern (the title track) and classic Chicago house tropes as heard on 'The NATA Liaison'.

Review: Two underground artists with many years in the scene behind them in Darwin Chamber and DJ Spun come together for the second in their Episode series on Rong Music. Once again they dig into the sounds of their formative years while also looking to the future as they blend dub, trance and techno into lithe new forms. 'The Revolution' is a mid-tempo and atmospheric roller with hypnotic vocals, while 'The Playa' is a deft bit of electronic minimalism with a deep space feel and ticking 808 sounds. Things get more loose with the warped synths and dusty tech beats of 'Dysfunction' while 'Acid Tounge' closes with trippy designs, a skeletal rhythm and a sense of late-night melodic and afterparty mischief.

Dance With Me (Kolsch remix) (5:51)
Review: It's been a while since Kevin De Vries last released some solo salvos, and two years since he dropped a couple of quietly impressive collaborations (one with IIlario Alicante, the other with Innellea). So was 'Dance With Me' worth the wait? It's certainly an ear-pleasing, attractive and club-ready proposition, with seductive female spoken word vocals, delicate lead lines and foreboding, angular electronic motifs dancing atop a throbbing, arpeggio-style bassline, trance-esque percussive builds and soft-touch techno drums. Remixer Kolch opts for a deeper, darker and even more pulsating vibe on the accompanying flip-side rework, adding big room riffs and spiralling, sci-fi style electronics.

It was the first to push the style heavily and continues to find the best new artists to help develop it. This new one-sided 12" brings tithe Kevin de Vries and breakout talent Mau P for an epic main room prog cut 'Metro' that its lit up with pixelated chords and spraying pads, icy drum fills and grandiose arrangements that place you at the centre, gazing on in awe at the scale of the techno that unfolds around you. Produced by the UK duo Desert Storm, it blends breakbeat rhythms with pulsating synths and atmospheric elements that reflect the essence of the rave culture of its time. Released in 1994, it soon found its place in the underground trance scene. Years later, its status as a classic cannot be in doubt.

Review: Stefano Di Carlo' delivers a diverse mix of upbeat, energetic techno tracks perfect for the dancefloor. The first side kicks off with the Andy Perfetti Tribal City remix of Mad DJ, an uptempo burner with a catchy lead hook that immediately hooks the listener, setting the stage for high-energy vibes. The Alex Neri DJ Mad remix takes things in a more trance-like direction, with euphoric, psychedelic elements that create a distinct uplifting feel while maintaining a strong club rhythm. On Side-2, 'The Conversion' brings a vintage, rave-inspired melodic sound, with a nostalgic yet fresh feel. Finally, the original 'Mad DJ' track offers an otherworldly, alien vibe, with early 90s techno influences and a surprising house twist. Di Carlo's ability to blend different styles and eras offers something for both old-school techno lovers and those craving a more modern, experimental edge.

Review: Philoxenia Records boss man Luigi Di Venere continues to blur the boundaries between traditional genres with a new EP that takes its inspirational cues from the multidimensional nature of sound waves. The title reflects the depth and motion captured in the EP's stunning artwork by CGI duo muzzin+samiri while the opener is a tribute to early 90s Frankfurt EBM. 'By Means Of Music' is a more funky vibe with New Beat undertones and real warmth. 'Got Momentum' brings a French house edge and on the flip, Cromby transforms' Got Momentum' into a euphoric UK peak-time anthem, and Cycle_2 reimagine 'By Means Of Music' as a psychedelic techno trip.
