Lit Up (4:40)
Lit Up (The remix) (3:51)
Review: A Skillz and Krafty Kuts are veteran names by now but at one option they were some of the hottest new DJs and producers in the game. They pioneered a breakbeat, cut-up and paste sounds 20 years ago that was high on energy and with plenty of character. Now they look to the roots of the sounds they used to draw from and serve up a new single on Jam City that is all about disco. 'Lit Up' has loose, jumbled drums and funk basslines with some great vocal flourishes up top from Gizelle Smith. A remix on the flip takes things into deeper new soul territory.

Wicked Ah Fi (Knoe1 Steppaz mix) (4:21)
Black Woman (Knoe1 Family mix) (3:25)
Review: Mikal Asher, a scion of Jamaica's Morgan family dynasty, reunites with Chocolate Star Records here and does so with a collaboration with disco legend Gary Davis. Asher, akin to his brother Denroy Morgan, upholds the family's legacy of righteousness through music. Known as the Binghiman, he crafts captivating tunes with profound lyrics and has recorded in Ghana's Hustle Hard Studios and collaborated with industry pioneers in Kingston and Brooklyn, setting new standards in musical excellence along the way. Here, 'Wicked Ah Fi' transforms into a modern dub stepper, while 'Black Woman' offers a soulful, laid-back dedication to Davis' wife, Sonjia. This 7" also comes with innovative remixes from California-based DJ and producer Knoe1.

Arsenii - "Commando" (5:22)
Sputnik - "Bhangraman" (6:24)
Guido Minisky - "The Villain Edit" (5:09)
Review: With the Russia 2018 World Cup hurtling towards a thrilling conclusion, Moscow-based re-edit crew That's A Steal joins the global party in fine style. To kick things off, Beard in Dust and Arsenii join forces on "Hey Hey", a thrilling scalpel revision of a barely known, turn-of-the-80s Bollywood disco gem. Arseeni continues the Indian flavour via the slo-mo, Balearic reggae flex of "Commando", before Sputnik takes our breath away via the surging, Italo-disco-goes-East brilliance of "Bhangraman" - all throbbing arpeggio-style bass, foreboding chords and exotic synthesizer lines. A fine package is completed by the bonkers brilliance of Guido Minisky's "The Villain Edit", which sounds like Mumbai's answer to Art of Noise jamming with Herbie Hancock (circa "Rockit").

Review: It's a sizzling seven up for Moiss Music here as they draw together four different artists to offer up one cut each for this new various artists collection. Boogietraxx goes heavy on the filter vibes on 'S N T' which is French touch disco-house of the highest order. Kellit's 'Pryscoks Sockin Socks' is all about sultry sax lines and loose-limbed disco house beats while C Da Afro gets heads up with the streaming sunshine synths of 'Don't Be Quiet.' On A1, we have Boogietraxx and Monsieur Van Pratt teaming up for the fantastic 'Sigueme', that brings a Latin flavour to the table, followed on A2 by Mexican disco master Hotmood and Italian star Gledd combining their superpowers to bring the maximum jazz spice to the recipe via 'I've Got Jazz'. Review: This latest is a reissue of a Congress Productions EP featuring their seminal 'Neptune'. The much-sampled early 80s jazz-funk classic comes in original form next to two unreleased cuts. The first is a rare boogie cut 'Live It Up' that has been extended for more dancefloor heft having first been dropped under the D'aile' alias as a B-side. Nigeria (Tall Black Guy Boogie Love remix - instrumental version) (4:05)
African Spirits (Andres extended remix) (5:33)
Review: Nicola Conte is one of the central figures in the Schema story, and his nu jazz and broken beat partnership with Gianluca Petrella has yielded some golden music in recent years. Nigeria originally came out in 2018, and then last year popped up on the duo's People Need People LP, but now it's getting a proper remix treatment which sees Tall Black Guy twisting the track out as a heady disco house roller for sundown moments when you need a little jazzy flair in the proceedings. That version comes in vocal and instrumental versions, and then the mighty Andres steps up for one of his simmering groove escapades as he delivers an extended remix of 'African Spirits'.

Review: Nicola Conte and Gianluca Petrella follow up last year's beautiful "African Spirits / New World Shuffle" with two more lavish instrumentals. "Sun Song" lives up to its name with wave after wave of heated musicianship from the belting harmonies to the light-touch keys. "Nigeria" taps deep into the source too as it drives us through the heart of Lagos with full horns and sweeping keys. Spiritual, sun-splashed and vital.

New World Shuffle (feat Bridgette Amofah) (7:50)
Review: Last spotted on wax together 16 years ago on New Standards, Italian kindred spirits and diggers Conte and Petrella collide once again. A culmination of many records savoured and ideas shared between the two friends, this 12" is long overdue and fizzes with fusion. "African Spirit" is focused on a rolling tribal MAW style house rhythm with Gianluca adding his signature trombone with staccato finesse while "New World Shuffle" is a much dreamier, smoky affair that sounds perfect any time between sunset and sunrise. Spiritual.

Free Your Mind (5:51)
Imani River (feat Bridgette Amofah) (4:58)
Infinity (feat Bridgette Amofah) (7:28)
Review: Italian Latin jazz stalwart Nicola Conte first joined forces with trombonist Gianluca Petrella way back in 2001 on the nu-jazz era "New Standards" single. The pair started working on new material in 2014 and the "Free Your Mind EP" is their third joint release since. They're in a surprisingly up-beat, club-ready mood on EP opener "Free Your Mind", where Ebo Taylor style guitars, Africa 70 organs, tasty vocal samples and Afrobeat style horn lines are underpinned by a relaxed deep house groove. Vocalist Bridgette Amofah stars on the EP's other two cuts: the percussive tribal jazz of highlight "Imani River" and epic B-side "Infinity", a superb chunk of Afro-tinged deep house that sounds like it was inspired by Kai Alce and Ron Trent records.

Kim Anh - "In The Stars" (5:06)
Cody Currie - "Ghost" (4:48)
Review: Razor-N-Tape's Family Affair series makes a welcome return here with a third great instalment. This series is something of an annual end-of-year tradition by now (OK, it's arriving a touch late) and this one hits as hard as any with five tracks taken from the full and standout compilation. It is two great remixes of classic RNT material that gets things underway with Ezel offering a dub of Cor.ece and Bruce Leroys sublime deep hose mix of Guinu, then JKriv's 'Better Than Her' is a fat bottomed bit of deep cut electro funk and elsewhere Kim Anh gets raw and cosmic, and Cody Currie's 'Ghost' is broken beat perfection.

Princesse Erika - "Calomnie" (club mix) (8:41)
Review: A La French 1987-1992 is a new series from long time dance veteran Dimitri From Paris. It finds him digging deep into his vaults and returning with some of his earlier edit work, often with a Balearic feel over deep house drums and 80s disco vibes. The first in the three part series is a real smoother, with sexy and steamy sax lines on 'Yuku Mon Ukulele' bringing a late night feel. There is a slow motion party tune from Alpha Blondy that runs deep, Gerard Blanc then gets a little more upbeat but still with plenty of soulful and loved up vocal vibes and Princesse Erika closes with lush piano stabs and synth strings that light up your heart.

Review: On this latest must-have missive, the Editorial crew has assembled an all-star cast of re-editors and house-loving disco rework merchants. Thrillingly, it contains a now rare outing from slo-mo specialist Duff Disco, whose atmospheric, beatdown style chugger "Always on My Mind" is undoubtedly one of the best things he's released in years. Props, too, to Irish disco-house specialists Get Down Edits, who weigh in with the warm and summery grooves of "Hey (What's Happening)". Review: Some Paradise Forgotten has had a standout year with a bunch of superb releases and now comes another one, this time from Eddie Logix featuring Gabriel Oliveria. Right from the off, 'Kunama' strikes a perfect balance between horizontal grooves and gently persuasive Mediterranean rhythms. It's led by summery flutes which float up top over languid drums as the jumbled and organic perc helps smooth things along. 'Paradise Remembered' pairs more great win sounds with stringy melodies and chanting vocals that bring plenty of exotic vibes to this most humid and tropical of tracks.

Review: Roots For Bloom's consistently on-point SHAG Edits jams continue with typically steamy results. Ethyene takes the lead with a big swooning string sample and shuffling Buckethead style beats, LK brings up the rear slowly and smoulderingly with a delicious slo-mo cosmic chugger, Georgi Barrel's "Up The Hill" is another big sample groove with more than a whiff of Sneak's "Can't Hide From Your Bud" to it. Review: The Filament crew are Amsterdam based purveyors of nu-disco, who have returned with the second edition in their electrifying various artists series. The last one featured some awesome tracks by the likes of Kito Jempere and Carrot Green, but on Vol. II there's a Sunday open-air festival vibe. Review: Sir Funkineven's Apron label has been on the down low for the past few months, but it's a pure stealth move with this split 12" from the founder and the excellent Greg Beato the first of several killer records due over the coming months. In essence the pair take a side each with "F's Diss" from Funkineven channelling Soundstream levels of edit-shaped bliss whilst Miami's pocket dynamo Greg Beato slams through some blinding Hi NRG on "B's Diss". What exactly the originals are is quite secondary to how deadly they've become in the scalpels of this trans-Atlantic pair.

The Green Man
The Green Man (Capracara remix)
Dirk Bogarde
Review: Launched earlier this year after several successful years of East London parties, the Disco Bloodbath imprint are clearly set on a path to promote the musical talents that's been cultivating around them. This third release on the labels sees the lesser spotted G&S return with their first material since appearances on Dissident (RIP) and In Flagranti's Codek imprint back in 09. A collaborative project between Say Yes resident Nadia Ksaiba and Matt Waites of Call Super, Moscow and Nightmoves repute, the G&S sound is based around a weighty yet eminently danceable manipulation of analogue gear which is executed with aplomb on lead track "Green Man". The duo's predilection for disco is very much evident in the tonalities of this track, but it's blended with a tough 808 grit that will appeal to Dissident fans. Juno favourite Capracara appears on the B-Side with a flipping great remix of "Green Man" that expertly imbues some house buoyancy into proceedings without sacrificing any of the original's crystalline charms, while G&S finish off with the Bloodbath anthem in the making "Dirk Bogarde".

No naked in front of your school assembly business or suddenly realising you've still got exams to do, rather a deep cosmic dream galvanised by raw doses of funk thanks to a slippery slap bass that worms in and out of a hazy weave of synth and pads. "Flying Over The Island" on the B is no nightmare either; a breezy evocative slice of Balearica with infectious harmonic chimes, disco pops and dizzying layers of percussion... Bordello A Parigi always deal in superb Italo disco sounds and this is another case in point - G Race's 'On Fire' surges out of the speakers on bright, buoyant melodies that zip about the skies with all the energy of a collapsing star. Gnabolo (6:57)
Review: Bologna-based twosome G&B (apparently short for Gino and Dino) have offered up some of the best scalpel-style disco edits of recent times, with each of their three previous EPs receiving plaudits from both party-starting selectors and dusty-fingered record collectors. This fourth EP lives up to the high-quality of its predecessors, delivering three more hot-to-trot edits. The Italian pair begins via the triumphant disco-funk of 'Ori One', where rubbery bass, mazy electric piano solos, spacey synth chords and punchy horns catch the ear, before opening side B with a tidy revision of a boogie-era disco-soul gem ('Homecoming'). Arguably best of all though is closing cut 'Gnabolo', a superbly squelchy revision of a killer Afro-boogie number from 1982.

Review: Nine years after volume one landed in stores, Italian twosome G&D return with a fifth instalment in their occasional edit series. This time they've got company, too. Fellow Italian producer LTJ contributes a brilliant EP-opening edit - the languid, disco-meets-jazz-funk shuffle of 'The Rain Machine', where elastic bass and electric piano solos catch the ear - while Star Creature signees First Touch provide a smoother, chunkier and more synth-heavy rework of the very same track on side B. G&D fill in the gaps, first tweaking a sweaty disco-funk jam ('Ziddy'), before reworking a surging, techno-tempo disco stomper (the wonderfully camp 'Gusto').

Review: Phil South's Golf Channel has developed a fine relationship with Portuguese band Gala Drop over the years with the 2014 LP II the highlight of this union. Before the year is out, band and label reunite for Nova, a killer 12" which sees the band reworked by some of their talented compatriots. First up are Niagara, delivering their first ever remix after a year in which they've excelled on records for Principe, FTD, and their own Ascender label. In the trio's hands, "Nova" is granted the big band disco treatment, Lisbon-style, and it's nice to see how different their vibe is to the subsequent remix from Tiago. PT's trademark "Diskomiks" burrows down hard on a vamped bassline adding Balearic electronics to the fray, whereas his "Ambiens" mix, as the titles track suggests, is devoid of beats and the bassline from his "Diskomiks". The first mix by Tough City Kids (Gerd Jansen & Phillip Lauer) re-rubs the originals synths and simplifies the tracks busy drums, opting for a Human League kick-snare routine instead. Their second mix boils down things even further with a remix that could have easily been labelled "bonus beats".

It is a collection, once again, of joyous analogue disco that pays homage to classic sounds but not slavishly so. Kicking things off are the mighty galaxies, absolute kings of this form with plenty of cosmic synths and retro-future synth work. This latest entry into the Sample Series kicks off with an edit of 'Lovely Is Today' by Eddie Harris from his 1968 album Plug Me In. It's steeped in delightfully conversational saxophone with rousing chords dancing beneath in a swinging 60s fashion. A real classy gem. Just Be Yourself (8:54)
Review: We remain in the dark as to the identity of the shadowy artists behind the Gallery re-edit series, which is now on to its fourth release. Whoever is behind it clearly has re-editing skills and deep crates because the choice of tracks and the quality of the scalpel style rearrangements is always top-notch. For proof, check 'Hello You Yeah', a fine extension of a jazz-funk-tinged, near Balearic '80s disco oddity that includes some great solos, sun-kissed horn motifs, rubbery bass and occasional doses of joyous chorus vocals. Summer may already be over (here in the UK at least), but it sounds like a sunshine anthem in the making. Flipside 'Just Be Yourself' meanwhile is a heavier affair; a pleasingly pompous, synth-laden disco-rock excursion that's as camp as they come.

Steady On Now (10:20)
Not You Again? (11:33)
Review: The Gallery has these rare grooves up for auction, so they advise you to place your bid quickly. Spoken like true gallerists (or collectors?) this label has presented two previous displays of artistic editing that are still enigmatic to this very day, and their next one retains the high standard in artistic quality. On the A side of this 12' we have the low slung disco disco inferno of 'Steady On Now' packed with a vibrant brass section, cosmic synths and some fine guitar work. On the flip, you're in luck (what more can we say) on 'Not You Again' which has that classic Salsoul kind of vibe all the way, oh and that vocal - good times!

Baby Baby Please

Baby Baby Please (7:27)
True Destiny (9:32)
Review: Some artistic edits from a brand new series. We're not sure who the "unknown artist" is behind the reworks (which date from this year and 2016 respectively), but it's clear that they know what they're doing. A-side "Baby Baby Please" is a wonderfully dubbed-out and glassy-eyed revision of a lesser-known Italo-disco/Hi-NRG cover of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' classic "Don't Leave Me This Way" that boasts a killer vocal breakdown midway through. Over on the flip, "True Destiny" is an epic, low-slung revision of an obscure disco number that rightly emphasizes the heavy groove pushing the track forward and includes some tasty delay and echo trickery.

Nightlights In Japan (single version) (3:38)
Nightlights In Japan (Maxi instrumental version) (5:08)
Review: Galvanica's 'Nightlights In Japan' dropped in 1987 and was a perfectly dreamy post-rave comedown soundtrack with heavenly pads and angelic whispered vocals. It came with various different remixes that repurposed it for different moments. The remix dance version is more driven by classic and crunchy analogue 80s drums with tumbling melodies and plenty of feelings of subtle euphoria. The single version tweaks that just a touch and the maxi instrumental turns up the drums and strips out the vocals for something more rock and club-ready. Tip!

Life Is A Mirror (dub) (5:04)
Life Is A Mirror (version) (9:18)
Review: Galxtc take us back to the prime era of Brit funk here with a super slick new single for the young Space Grapes label. 'Life Is A Mirror' is an eleven minute workout which really uses the long playing time to take you on a trip. It's got a loose rhythm section with tight drum work, a peppering of percussion and darting synths that are cosmic and funky from the off. Building up a fine head of steam it gets ever more intense and fabulous with various different chapters all taken care of by a range of leads. The dub and version complete this fine maxi single.

Bring Them Back Together (6:38)
Review: For the first release on their Ghetto Disco imprint, Edinburgh-based daughter-and-father duo Natasha and Dennis Probert has turned to the cheekily named Serge Gamesbourg. Having already impressed via contributions to Rahaan's Street Edits series, monsieur Gamesbourg is sure to enhance his reputation further with these two reworks. "The Cool, The Hip & The Square" sees him reworking the track that initially inspired the label, extending, chopping and rearranging the killer disco original in all the right places. Arguably even better, though, is the B-side sensuality of "Bring Them Back Together", a glassy-eyed rework of a Philly soul gem that's as sultry as the come.

Redemption (The Revolving Eyes Hi Energy remix)
Redemption (Mister J remix)
Review: David Garcet (half of Pink Slow Motel) is returning with this ultimate beauty. "Redemption" is a sublime trance induced dancefloor rumbler, already causing quite a stir. Furthermore, "Redemption" has been tweaked to the maximum by The Revolving Eyes (aka Rob'n' Zoopsie), Belgian's prime Italo movers. Here they churn out an absolutely fantastic Italo monster, comprising Moroder basslines and eerie noises to maximum effect. On top of that there is a wicked dubbed out tech-house version by none other than Mister J (from Missive fame), who goes deep in this dub fest.

This single was first put out in 1977 on 20th Century Records by singer and guitarist Beloyd. It's a life-affirming cut that has unsurprisingly been a perennial classic at soul weekenders for many a year. Now it gets some sympathetic touch-up work by the man, the legend Tom Moulton to take it to the next level.

Dee Dee Sharp - "Hot Fun" (unreleased version)
Review: Arguably one of the first ever dubplate labels, Sunshine Sound was home to limited runs of DJ-friendly versions throughout the 70s and early 80s. Most are long gone, but the "Unreleased Version" series continues to unearth the existing gems. Having previously dusted off a very special version of Candido, they return with three more exclusive rubs; a super-slinky boogie take of Taana Gardner's 1979 "Paradise Express", a thriving, drum-heavy take on the lolloping bass jam "Loosen Up" and the piano-slapping strutting "Hot Fun" where Dee Dee Sharp's vocals provide the ultimate sensuous showdown. As limited as the original acetate presses, this needs urgent attention.

Review: Dark Entries are masters of Italo reissues and they have a number of them dropping at the moment. This one is of Garland's 'Heartbeat' which comes original from 1986. It is a true dancefloor gem that bares all the hallmarks of the era that still remain so loved today. Claudio Corradini produced it with Massimo Filippi and Art Deco singer and songwriter Claudio Valenti used this project for his more club ready sounds. 'Heartbeat' (song version) is a mid tempo tune with sleek staccato bass and a sing-along-worthy chorus that echoes Bronski Beat. The Dance Version is extended for DJs. A postcard with lyrics and liner notes is also included.

Review: Gary's Gang - 'Let's Lovedance Tonight' originally came in 1979 and is the source of a well known, international dance music hit. It's a gloriously upbeat bit of disco that got an edit from the master that is Danny Krivt back in 207. He took that monster break, and cleverly extended and looped it for nearly six superb minutes, and the result is infectious as the organic perc and rumbling drums constantly make you move. Here reissued on translucent red wax, it is a surefire party starter with cosmic rays of disco brilliance shooting through it for above.

Review: You probably weren't expecting the return of Gary's Gang, but the much-loved disco group are back after a prolonged absence with a new single. Produced by Eric Matthew (aka Joe Tucci), the OG co-founder of the band alongside Gary Turnier, this is a legitimate contemporary update on the Gary's Gang sound. 'Make It Or Break It' is bright and cheery, led by sweet vocals and with a crossover instinct which carried the band to such success in their late 70s heyday. For those who just want the groove, the 'Dub Mix' on the flip should give you plenty to work with, while the 'Nu Disco Mix' gives everything a nip and tuck for the more minimally-minded modern dancefloor.

Les Dance (Jean Claude Gavri vocal remix) (7:09)
Les Dance (Jean Claude Gavri 2017 dub edit) (6:35)
Review: Over the last few years, Israeli producer Jean-Claude Gavri has reworked all manner of vintage dancefloor treats, often delivering brilliantly percussive or subtly tooled-up reinterpretations. This time round, he's working his magic on David Bowie's 1983 classic "Let's Dance". Interestingly, it sounds like Gavri had access to the master tapes during the remixing process, because the A-side remix is a wonderfully dubbed-out, synth-laden interpretation that sounds like a cross between the work of The Reflex and the Idjut Boys. The flipside Dub Edit is pretty tasty, too, and naturally concentrates more on both the rolling percussion and killer synth bassline.

Review: Two golden edits with no chin stroking required thanks to the EBO label! Tel Aviv's Jean Claude Gavri does the business on Michael Jackson's "Rock With You", making lavish extensions in all the right places. Dimitri From Astoria (any relation to namesakes from Paris and Blackpool?) follows suit with an equally impressive twist on the Franki Valli classic from Greece. Both already tried and tested floor-jammers since the 70s, these updates do the originals some serious justice.

Review: The EBO label returns with Seaside Edits don Jean Claude Gavri sharing sides on a 12" with Italian contemporary Moplen that's slightly too vitamin D-infused in tone for the Winter months but will nice up any left leaning discotheque. Any self respecting disco scholar should have no issues IDing the source material here, Gavri taking on the Carly Simon classic "Why" and adding subtle Caribbean disco vibes to proceedings and occasionally dipping into the filters on this extended groove rendition. On the flip "The Riddum Slave" sees Luca Locatelli work similar magic, filling the Grace Jones cut of the near same name with all manner of dub fx, neat loops and hot breaks.

Review: Love Monk present a second round of remixes to accompany Gecko Turner's third album, Gone Down South, released last year to critical acclaim. First up is Claremont 56 boss Mudd who takes the pleasant Caribbean lilt of "You Can't Own Me" and transforms it into a slice of superb slomo house. Tingling chords, intricate drum programming and warm swathes of bass draw you in before Mudd fully unleashes the Turner vocal. On the flip, Tru Thoughts mainstay Natural Self adds more than a smidgen of dusted funk to the hip-hop leaning "When I Woke Up". Instrumental versions of both tracks are included for those wanting to fully appreciate the remixers art.
