Atomic (12")
Cat: RFGV 004. Rel: 17 Jan 23
Atomic (6:16)
Atomic (Boogs & Ben Silver remix) (6:04)
Atomic (ADMN remix) (5:07)
Review: The enigmatic Acid Jerks are back this week, following up some great releases on the legendary NYC imprint Nu Groove with this new one for Aussie label Refuge Recordings. 'Atomic' is proper old school acid house reminiscent of the glory days of Trax Records and featuring Mikey V's sleazy vocal delivery atop which really brings it together. Over on the flip, Melbourne legend Boogs teams up with Ben Silver for a remix, followed by one more moody and lo-slung rendition by ADMN.

Tembezi
Tembezi (Prins Thomas version)
Tembezi (Marcellus Pittman remix)
Review: Internasjonal pull a curveball with the delightful afro house stylings of "Tembezi" from the unheralded Ackin'. Featuring the poignant vocal talents of M. Akamatsu, there are multiple charms to "Tembezi" which brandishes the sort of richly textured rhythms and melancholic piano improvisations that can't help but encourage the movement of feet. This being an Internasjonal release there is an accompanying Prins Thomas remix that winds down the tempo to a more cosmic level without losing any of the original's tinkling delights but our favourite thing about this record is the final remix from 3 Chairs originator Marcellus Pittman. Adopting a bumpier note, Pittman's talent for crafting emotive synth melodies and dubbed piano chords shines through with positively incandescent results.

Akasha System - "Midnight Tide" (4:56)
Tape Hiss - "Scirocco" (5:56)
Manuel Darquart - "Low Tide" (5:59)
Cosmic Cherry - "Malibu" (5:20)
Nicodemo - "Esmeralda" (5:47)
Review: Alzaya is a boutique label from Milan that has put out a select few EPs over the last three years from names such as Paula Tape. Now it kicks off a new Various Artist series with five quality tunes. Akasha System's 'Midnight Tide' is a nice neon-lit future tech cut with bubbling, soft focus melodies. Tape Hiss offers the old school piano laced joy of 'Scirocco' and Manuel Darquart slips into deep cosmic house lushness with 'Low Tide.' The mellifluous melodies keep on coming with Cosmic Cherry and Nicodemo who offer a pair of sleek and stylish sounds.

Monile - "Quin" (7:32)
Aline Umber - "Short Message Service" (5:31)
Review: Aline Umber is a new alias of Aline Brooklyn, hailing from the New York area's hottest tech house hub. Monile, meanwhile, is a Spanish artist whose past cuts never failed to dazzle for imprints such as Chez Doc. Together, the pair present a dazzling dialectic of straight tunage. 'Quin' is a cheeky and insidious minimal number, with filtrated and toothy basslines and reversed sound effects ensuring a moody groove. 'Short Message Service', meanwhile, is a danceably telecommunicative vision of the retrofuture - phone bleeps, 80s tropes, and a 4x4 undertow.

Dungeon Funk 01
Cat: DF 01. Rel: 24 Jun 24
AM Project - "Flippin' Kicks" (5:33)
ADMNTi & Jack Ling - "Meat Slap" (6:02)
Fanick - "Watch Me" (5:31)
Modal Logic - "Space & Science Center" (6:11)
Review: Dungeon Funk lands heavily here with a debut release that sets a good standard from the off. This marks the first time that assured and hardcore deep house heads Dungeon Meat and SlapFunk Records have come together and it is the result of Meat man Brawther hosting a comp on his Patreon channel for aspiring producers to try and impress. From the many entries he received, the four best are served up here starting with Ibiza-based A.M. Project whose 'Flippin' Kicks' has heavyweight kicks and plunging bass. UK-based ADMNTi & Jack Ling offer the quick tech funk of 'Meat Slap', Russia's Fanick brings a trippy breakbeat vibe with 'Watch Me' and Canada's Modal Logic offers 'Space and Science Center', a nice loopy and low-slung banger to close.

Review: Introducing new Brazilian label Laguna On Wax with their debut various artist EP. The A -ide features Andrey Djackonda with the deep boompty groove of 'Raw Em' (his vinyl first) followed by scene hero Mihai Popoviciu who serves up another impeccably produced late night dub in the form of 'Route 40'. Review: MoBlack Records is an Italian label founded by Mimmo Falcone that focuses mainly on afro house. For the third edition in its Gold series, Falcone has curated another various artists affair featuring Arodes & Moojo on the A side, who serve up some emotive hi-tech soul on 'Reborn' followed by Spanish veteran DJ Chus with Sparrow & Barbossa on the spiritual life music of 'A Pila El Arro' (feat Etelvina Maldonado). Yellow Jackets Vol 1
Cat: YJ 001. Rel: 31 Jan 22
Atjazz & Mark De Clive-Lowe - "Sweat No Sleep" (club mix) (8:22)
Mist Works - "Common Question?" (Aybee Immortal mix) (7:02)
Review: Yellow Jackets is a brand-new series of limited-edition 12" singles from Verona's Mother Tongue label, with each release sporting "carefully selected" tracks with a dancefloor purpose. On volume one, they've dipped into the vaults of Martin 'Atjazz' Iveson, offering vinyl debuts to two tracks released digitally at the start of the last decade. Side A sports Iveson's jazz-funk flavoured roller 'Sweat No Sleep (Club Mix)', a deliciously spacey, fluid and colourful collaboration with keys-man Mark De Clive-Lowe powered by Afro-house inspired beats. Over on the flip there's a chance to savour Aybee's overlooked rework of 'Common Question' by Iveson side project Mist Works, a rubbery chunk of tech-tinged, heavily electronic deep house hypnotism.

Life Recorder - "Eternal Tones" (7:11)
June Jazzin - "Sikhanyiso" (7:48)
Mark E - "Tracer" (5:43)
Review: Swiss label Visions Recordings (formarly known as Visions Inc) returns with The Evolution: Phase Four. On the A side, you've got label chief Alex Attias who appears with the emotive nu-jazz journey 'Magical Feeling' (feat Sohan Wilson) followed by Life Recorder who gets some real proper house vibes happening on 'Eternal Tones 'reaching near spiritual moments. Over on the flip, June Jazzin gets those early noughties UK vibes (think Bugz In The Attic, Kaidi Tatham et al) in effect on 'Sikhanyiso' and Mark E is in fine form as always on the deep contemplation of 'Tracer'.

Aurelien - "Les Yeux" (6:45)
MostWanted - "Juanas Addiction" (4:44)
Philipp Boss - "Lockdown Light" (6:57)
Car Crushers - "Fine" (feat Tabi) (6:10)
Review: The third release from this emerging Frankfurt label is a compact showcase of their boundary-pushing ethos, fusing a variety of styles into each track without ever feeling disjointed. Side-A kstarts off with Aurelien's 'Les Yeux', a hypnotic slice of 90s techno nostalgia. Trancey flourishes shimmer across a sturdy techno framework, giving it a futuristic yet warmly vintage feel i an addictive opener that immediately pulls you in. MostWanted's 'Juanas Addiction' follows with a raw, electro-clash inspired workout. Rough edges and a cleverly placed samples create a gritty, 80s-flavoured rush that feels spontaneous and alive. Side-B opens with Philipp Boss' 'Lockdown Light', a tight tech house roller that threads a wiry acid line through breezy house rhythms, maintaining a lightness despite its driving momentum. Closing things out, Car Crushers' 'Fine' (featuring Tabi) bursts with cheeky energy i a bouncy 90s club spirit laced with hints of Euro house fun. Tabi's vocals add just the right dash of playful charisma to seal the deal. This compilation is a strong statement of intent, proof that the label isn't afraid to stir genres together in creative, dancefloor-ready ways. Every track brings its own flavor, yet the cohesion across the release feels effortless and full of personality. An EP that is full of fun.

B Love - "Thumb Milk" (5:34)
Rokko - "Sunset Frequency" (6:11)
Mathijs Smit - "Backwards" (7:33)
Herra - "Thesis Trax" (5:30)
Review: Picnic tends towards flaunting the eclecticism of the British underground, standing in stark opposition to conformity. B Love, Rokko, Mathijs Smit and Herra come through for their latest V/A here, each with their own unique style and flavour to the four-way table - whether they work in deep house, techno, or the cheekier side of speed-garage-ambient. As 'Thumb Milk' says in the pre-drop moment of pause: "do what you feel, when you feel like it". Such is the exact feel of this EP, from the idyllic chordwork of Rock's 'Sunset Frequency' to the organic organry of 'Going Backwards'.

Baby Rollen - "Whatuwant" (6:38)
George Plant - "Music Begins" (6:34)
Dim City - "Extasis" (4:25)
Marma - "Mambo" (7:24)
Bobby Metronome - "Body Free" (8:34)
Review: Two years ago, Make a Dance's M.A.D Records delivered their first compilation style EP - a fine five-tracker containing cuts from a mix of rising stars (Tom Carruthers, Asa Tate) and old heads (Andy Ash, Hard Drive Library). On this belated sequel, they've chosen to chowcase cuts from newcomers - with pleasingly strong results. Babyrollen impress with opener 'Whatuwant', a post-punk-sampling slab of acid house bounciness that sounds like an underground anthem in waiting, before we're treated to two slabs of jacking house-meets-deep house excellence: George Plant's'Music Begins' and the proto-house-tinged wonder that is 'Extasis' by Dim City. Over on the flip, 'Mambo' by Marma is deep, tactile and loved-up with lots of delay-laden drum hits, while Bobby Metronome's 'Body Free' is a colourful slab of pitched-up deep house/nu-disco fusion.

Dr Sud - "Zaffiro" (Jazz cut) (3:59)
DatSIM - "Influx" (4:40)
The Rabbit Hole - "Tail Groove" (4:27)
Review: No matter your particular preference in the deep house world, this various artists' outing from Q1E2 Recordings is sure to have something for you. Mike Riveria & Marco Ohboy, for example, tap into an early sound on 'Euphoria' with its big, brash piano stabs and whistles, while A Soft Mist Production keeps it all cuddly and deep with languid chords draped over gentle drums on 'Upside Down Rainbows.' DatSIM brings in some space-tech vibes for a deft rhythm and neon infused sound on 'Influx' and The Rabbit Hole's 'Tail Groove' has a mad double bass sound jumping about beneath frantic jungle breaks.

Review: If you go to the sort of quality dances where you might hear old sound disco then there is a good chance you will have lost your shit to this one at some point the past. It is a disco gospel 12" curated and edited by Chicago pair Sadar Bahar and Marc Davis. Review: KZA's long running Let's Get Lost series continues it's relentless slalom through the edit scene, inviting famed Italian cosmic voyager Daniele Baldelli and his prolific compatriot Marco Dionigi back for more cross genre oddities. Much like the duo's debut for Let's Get Lost, this new edition packs a hefty eight cuts spread across the two platters and from the cosmic leaning of opening cut "Frozen" Daniele and Marco run the gamut of spiky disco punk ("Gregory Band") full on psyche rock ("Noia Noia") and everything in-between. Fans of vintage In Flagranti disco sleaze will particularly enjoy the glamorous strut of "Hello".

Riva Starr - "How It Feels" (5:44)
Shakedown & Bootsy Collins - "Funky & You Know It" (Shakedown Work That Mother mix) (5:34)
Review: Defected's colourful and diverse Glitterbox party has been a real success story in recent years and the label embodies that with a great representation of the sorts of sounds you will hear at the party. It's all about full throttle, emotionally intense house, soul and disco and that is exactly the case on Melvo Baptiste's opener 'Gonna Be Alright' (feat Jamie 3:26 & Annette Bowen) with its big diva vocals, piano stabs and hand claps. Mousse T keeps it silky and funky on the feel good 'Take It Back' and Riva Starr brings the swing to 'How It Feels'. Shakedown & Bootsy Collins's 'Funky & You Know It' (Shakedown Work That Mother mix) is a nice sleazy ass-shaker to close.

Identity Of Our Sound Vol 2
Emanuele Barilli - "Unconscious Relief" (6:05)
Mosis - "Pick It Up" (feat King Jeff) (6:08)
Damian Rausch, Chez Damier & H2H - "Together" (dub mix) (5:53)
Oscide - "No Use" (5:56)
Review: House of Chez is the new label from the legendary American deep house pioneer Chez Damier. It follows involvement with the seminal Prescription with Ron Trent in the 90s, then his own Balance, and finds him once again serving up super fresh grooves. He appears himself on 'Together' with his French studio partner as H2H and also Damian Rausch and the tune is pure and steamy house deepness. Elsewhere Emanuele Barilli gets dreamy with 'Unconscious Relief', there is a soulful vocal to the dry beats of Mosis's 'Pick It Up' and Oscide's 'No Use' is a little more prickly and direct.

Review: Rebirth kicks off its 2024 with a remix EP that serves as "a tribute to the Brescian music scene in its many facets and declinations." The full original project is a complete 12-track album that brings together many different sounds, scenes and generations, with the best bits now assembled on this new 12". The revered deep house master Fred P opens up with some texture spiritual synth depths, K-Lone brings some nice house swing to his version of 'Paline' and edit maestro Rahsaan also keeps it paired back and late night on his soulful take on 'Scent Of An Old Life'. Review: Coeur De Glace on DKO Records (DKO 34) delivers four fantastic electro tracks, each with unique influences and directions. Side-1 kicks off with Binary Digit's 'U Want Dis,' an exuberant, high-energy track that pays homage to old-school rave with its lively vocal samples. Manhattan Project - "Time 2 Scat" (6:17)
Review: For those who love the bouncy, organ-rich sound of early-to-mid '90s New Jersey garage and deep house, Mellow Man's Club U Nite label has long been a must-check outlet. The imprint's latest missive, a split EP showcasing the work of two different label regulars, is another doozy. Black Chunes Productions handles side A, first offering up the organ-rich, sax-sampling late-night bounce of 'All That Matters', before joining the dots between Tony Humphries favourites and classic Nu Groove productions on analogue deep house treat 'Don't Stop (NYC Deep Mix)'. Side B's showcases Mellow Man's alternative Manhattan Project alas via two killer cuts: the relaxed, vibraphone-sporting NJ deep house bliss of 'Do U Wanna Dance' and the vintage Jovonn vibes of 'Time 2 Scat'.

This various artists' EP opens with Blak'N'Orange's 'I Wanna Feel It', a deep and garage-tinged jam with chopped-up vocals flexing over splashy cymbals. Review: Earlier this year, legendary NY house label King Street Sounds was acquired by Armada Music. The Dutch imprint plans to reissue many of the well-known - and lesser-celebrated - gems from the King Street vaults in the months and years ahead. To kick things off, they've delivered this vinyl sampler featuring some of the stable's most admired cuts of all time. Noiro - "Imperialism" (5:57)
Review: The trope of the 'woodland dance' is one that has seen an uptick in dance music circles in recent years. This is where producers imagine a futuristic wilderness of biosynthetic trees and alien soils, and make music that would reflect the chance encounters found and emotions felt there. This collaborative EP for Voiceless - between Bodin, Simic, Mayell, and Noiro - falls neatly into that category. The eponymous 'Funki Jungle' is one of acidic delights, photosynthetic pads and gated, sappy spurts. The likes of 'Idle Instincts' and 'Imperialism', our highlights, touch on vestiges of Italo and classic house, while also using a select array of future sounds that could only truly sound 'organic' in a such an alien jungle.

Review: Kulture Galerie has got off to a superb start with a release that got the attention of big names such as Laurent Garnier, Midland and Vladimir Ivkovic. The pressure is on, in that case, to follow that up with a second release that makes just as much impact and the label passes the test with flying colours with a various artists' collection featuring some big names. Chief amongst them are Detroit don John Beltran with his scintillating hi-tek soul workout 'Canarias', and Bohm with the densely woven synth layers and dusty drum programming over the gorgeous 'Tactical Options!' Review: New label Taf Kif kicks off with this classy VA package from some cool cats who know how to lay down a slick groove or two. First up on this distinctly 80s-styled package is Axel Boman, who brings some of his signature sparkling melodies to a synth-pop indebted jam entitled 'Oasis'. Meanwhile Velmondo follows up with something a little more trippy and adventurous on 'Echo Welt', before MLiR inaugurates the B-side with the sultry tones of 'It's Baby Time'. Lusille completes the set with the hazy Afro house deviations of 'Une Longue Route', riding a swung groove that offers something different from the everyday cookie cutter house we know so well.

If you rate labels like Partisan and EYA you'll be into this record, without a doubt. Frankfurt producer Philipp Boss opens up the record with 'Die Schone', a collaboration with Gianluca, while Gabriel Belabbas creates a rolling warm-up delight of electro breaks with an iconic sample on 'Dance With The Speaker'. Defected's vinyl series continues to commit the label's biggest digital releases to wax for the first time, and this special twentieth edition has been created in partnership with Shelter, the housing and homeless charity. Together, in July 2023, the label and charity launched 'From House To Home', which pioneers an ingenious idea; taking 'house music' to its utmost logical conclusion, deploying reworks classic house tracks as fundraisers for helping secure actual housing for the homeless. On this latest edition to the series, Germany's Jonathan Kaspar remixes Breach's revered deep house anthem, 'Jack'. Then comes the bubbling Mason Collective and Bipolar Sunshine collab 'People In Love', shortly followed by the recent pop hit by Arielle Free, 'Feels So Good', before a round-off in the form of a generational collaboration between production pioneers Bob Sinclar, A-Trak, and Mele with 'Deep Inside Of Me'.

DJ Kemit & The Lounge Lizards - "Wake Up & Stand Up" (unreleased Hardubb) (4:44)
Malik Alston - "Promise Me Love" (feat Laronn Dolley - Kai Alce remix) (9:28)
Wipe The Needle - "Rise Up" (feat Lifford - Kai Alce Distinctive remix) (7:47)
Review: Most of the cuts showcased on the latest EP from Kai Alce's NDATL label - released in cahoots with Makin' Moves - have previously only been available digitally, while the others have never appeared at all. For that reason alone, the 12" is well worth checking out. Alce begins by offering up his warm, soulful and groovy vocal revision of Emdee Brown's "Again", before treating us to two versions of DJ Kemit and the Lounge Lizards' "Wake Up Stand" - a righteous vocal take and a "Hardubb" that brilliantly recasts it as a rolling late night bumper. Over on side B you'll find the broken beat/deep house fusion of Alce's rub of Malik Alston's "Promise Me Love" and a baggy, soulful and lilting rework of "Rise Up" by Wipe The Needle.

Review: Next up on SlothBoogie Records is the return of Vancouverite Jesse Bru, who follows up great releases on Happiness Therapy, Pulse Msc and Inhale Exhale. He joins forces with Max Ulis (Sabota) for this collaborative EP titled Similar Nature. On the A side you've got the hypnotic dub house stomper 'Banh Mi' followed by the rolling main room tech house of 'Moisture Cult' which is equally as icy and glacial. Over on the flip, they mix it up a bit with the inclusion of the emotive electro number 'TBH' and ending with the swingy minimal house of 'Big Chirp' in the vein of the classic Cabinet Records style.

Buckley - "I Like" (5:13)

S/A/M - "Real Man" (4:34)
Review: In the summer of 2023, Upgrade Records launched via a nostalgic, party-starting EP from the previously unheard artist In 5 D (likely an alias for someone a bit better known, but don't quote us on that). For the label's return, long-serving DJ/producer Buckley Boland (best known for his releases on Made To Play, Black Riot and One Records) is the man at the controls. What he's delivered is a nostalgic, sample-rich affair that combines the angular wonkiness and mind-mangling noises of early-to-mid-2000s tech-house with nods towards vintage acid house, electro-house and the hard-to-pigeonhole house filth of the (long gone) Music For Freaks label. Basically, it's all fun-time, party-starting fare, with the bump-and-squelch of 'Daft Sandwich', the bustling brilliance of 'Nude Night' and the break-sporting hustle of 'S/A/M Real Man' standing out.

Review: For their second 12" release - which comes on the heels of a great debut - the Only Child label presents a fresh soundscape for a fictional Manhattan neighbourhood. It takes the form of a split EP on which Alex Burkat offers his interpretation of modern deep house on 'Take It Away', while Kalyptra brings a distinctive Ecuador-meets-Philly influence with his remix. The label hopes that the fusion of these styles creates an ethereal, body-moving soundtrack that captures the essence of walking through the streets of New York City in 2024, while 'Kalyptra' adds his own heady and dreamy tech house sounds and Matt Cid steps up to collaborate on closer 'Magenta' which glistens with melodic radiance.

Review: After the first volume went down so well it's no wonder we now get treated to The Sound Of Garden Vol 2 Part 2. This various artist affair comes right from the cutting edge of minimal house and tech with Lee Burton opening up in bold, strident, bouncy fashion as he allows zippy acid to flash about his full-bodied beats. Maggio's 'Rolling Phunk' is just that - perfect effective rhythms with machine soul. Jamhar and Franko Lopez then combine for 'Lost Act' which brings more undulating drums and techno-leaning synths before closer Matteo Point shuts down with the future-facing prog pomp of 'Great Weekend.'

Pedro Bertho - "Tornei" (feat Mariana Gehring - Feel Fly Estatico Danzante remix) (7:21)
My Friend Dario - "Acid Mosquito In A Summer Night" (DJ Spun It's Rong remix) (9:21)
Review: Don't let the playful, tongue-in-cheek title put you off; this EP does not contain 'Balearic gabba', should such a thing exist, but rather a quartet of largely dancefloor focused remixes of delightful downtempo cuts from the Hell Yeah! Recordings catalogue. SIRS steps up first to deliver a chugging, Italo-disco-goes-Balearic re-make of Carmel 3000's 'Super Rapido', before we're treated to one of Calm's TB-303-laden 'mellow acid' dubs, this time of Sergio Messina & The Four Twenties' gorgeous, soft and sun-soaked 'Sometimes Remember'. Over on side B, Feel Fly delivers a soft-focus Balearic deep house take on Pedro Bertho and Mariana Gehring's 'Tornei', while DJ Spun's revision of My Friend Dario's 'Acid Mosquito in a Summer Night' is a twisted, genuinely psychedelic dub disco excursion.

Kamar - "I Need You" (Peggy Gou remix) (7:04)
Kerri Chandler & Jerome Sydenham - "Powder" (Jimpster remix) (7:17)
Review: This is a deliciously simple idea, impeccably executed. It sees a quartet of contemporary producers take it in turns to remix archival tracks by Madhouse boss (and all round legend) Kerri Chandler. Dutch duo Detroit Swindle steps up first, delivering a bustling, bass-heavy, interpretation of '92 jam "Get Out" that sits somewhere between booming, warehouse-friendly pump and fluid, disco-influenced NYC bounce. Josh Butler's take on the Chandler-producer Dreamer G anthem "I Got That Feeling" is an organ-laced, 21st century U.S garage treat, while Peggy Gou's interpretation of 1993's "I Need You" effortlessly joins the dots between vintage New Jersey deep house and wild acid tweakery. Finally, Jimspter delivers a fine version of "Powder" that's simultaneously lusciously warm and pleasingly bouncy.

Review: No one is a bigger fan of Darius Syrossian than the man hismelf, but to be fair to him his work in the house scene is unrelenting. His Moxy Muzak label deals only in fad-free, highly effective house sounds from a range of contemporary artists and this new various artists collection is testament to that once more. It kicks off with an ode to house music that has plenty of classic signifiers and high speed beats. Review: Synkronized is just three releases deep now but is already an assured and reliable outlet for fresh house sounds. This latest offering takes the form of a various artists EP and opens with the brilliantly spaced out electronic house of'Lorenzo Chiabotti & Just_Me's 'Darko FM'. It's a silky one with balmy pads that encourage you to dive right in. Review: Sweat It Out Records kicks off their tasty Sweat Sampler series with their first volume, cutting niftily across four exceptionally sweaty bops, spanning tongue-in-cheek deep tech reworks and downtempo disco delights. First off is the dream team of Cid and Havoc & Lawn, whom together deliver a hilariously effective house version of America's 'A Horse With No Name'; this is shortly followed by Saturday Love, Kon and Furious's 'Come Out', a rejigged nu-disco samosa packed with some rare vocal spices; then there's 'Give It To Me' by Marco Lys and Ben Miller, a bass-driven bouncer unafraid of lasershot winddowns, injunctive vocals and risers; and finally, there's Set Mo's 'Could I Be', the anthem of the bunch, whose buildup and drop is alarming, affecting, cumulatively awe-striking.

Review: Upstairs Asylum is kicking off the year in some style with a couple of killer new EPs. This one is the first in what is presumably a new series to showcase the talents of the Motor City. Mike Clark & Marcus Harris get things underway with 'Hey' which has a subtly uplifting feel thanks to the bright, sustained chords and cuddly drums. Review: Joaquin 'Joe' Clausell's Manifestation project started life as a CD featuring early and work-in-progress versions of some of the New York based DJ/producer's most inspiring and intriguing tracks. Since then, he's delivered a couple of coloured vinyl EPs featuring extended takes on these tracks. There's much to enjoy on this third (and likely final) chapter in the series. First up is a near 12-minute version of Mental Remedy's spiritual house gem 'Noi', where expansive, improvised piano solos twinkle away atop a lo-fi drum machine rhythm and starry synthesizer chords. It's followed by the kalimba and Marimba-heavy delights of The Bayara Citizens' blissful 'Kulimba', while side two boasts the weighty, dense, sweaty and insanely percussive 'Under The Influence' mix of Residue's 'Eno'.

Review: There is something of an irony to the name Joaquin Joe Claussell has given this new Manifestations series on his own Sacred Rhythm label. Why? Well he is a master of long form remixes, tunes that go on for ten-minutes plus and take you on involving trips that at least seem never-ending. Review: Collab EPs are back in fashion, and Tropical Disco are leading their charge. The boundlessly potentiated space between disco, dance and jazz is their game, and 'Tropical Disco Volume 23' proves they can win it time and time again. Four tracks of trumpetting 4x4 glory-buzz dominate this EP. Clean Is Good wipes the floor with disco-edit edge, while Moodena comes through with a mighty mood of motor city madness, and Sartorial and Infrasoul share the B-side with a pair of broken, drum-banging and glass-shattering instrumentals. Alessio Collina brings a flawless flex to chunky thumper 'Old Habits', while Brine brings some seriously soulful bump to 'Keep On Doin' Right' and DJ Rou ramps up the spiritual swirl with stirring vocal cut 'Love The Truth'. This fourth volume in its BND Project series welcomes four more venerated names starting with Marc Cotterell whose 'Deepha' (Plastik Factory Vox mix) is all warm, smeared chords and 90s vibes, while Matt Gillespie's 'Movin' is more stripped-back to sustained pads and shuffling, dusty drums that soon get under the skin. The first production to emerge from a series of studio sessions in Berlin and Detroit (and with more to come in the future) 'Attenuator' was originally produced together, but this two sided single sees them deliver their own distinct take on the material. The Carl Craig version on the A side is as epic as you could imagine from the veteran of the Motor City's second wave - proper 'hi-tech jazz' if we've ever heard it.
