Life's Too Short
Life's Too Short (pink vinyl 7" limited to 150 copies)
Cat: TSRZV 23. Rel: 21 Jun 22
Life's Too Short (3:47)
Blame Game (3:48)
Review: New funk and soul grooves from Adesha and Vincent Kwok, the Italian vocalist and production duo responsible for a rain-made string of releases on Sleepers Records. 'Life's Too Short' and 'Blame Game' are infectious, talkboxing punchers; the former hears a muted guitar solo in its sultry breakdown, as if to say "don't be afraid of anything that stands in your way", while 'Blame Game' continues to deal with the tumult of difficult relationships, aiming to mood-set your next party with frank DX7 chords and 909s. This split single comes to a limited pink vinyl 7" and picture cover, and is limited to just 150 copies.

Hot Mess (4:09)
Girl Fun (3:39)
Review: Adesha and Vincent Kwok come together once more for a new transmission that takes its stylistic cues from "the glittering dance floors of the disco era to Minneapolis-inspired funk." These are lush tunes with gorgeous backing vocals, fine sax sounds and irresistible drums. First is 'Hot Mess' which is a classic disco workout with pumping drums and nice loos percussion under the soaring vocals and cosmic synth rays. 'Girl Fan' has a sizzling sax solo and describes the stages of fandom over punchy beats. This is the third collab from this pair on The Sleepers Record label.

Royalty Of Funk Vol 2
Alan Mooney's Edits - "By My Side" (7:55)
Vincenzo De Bull - "Don't Tell Me Tell Her" (6:56)
Napoleon - "Gotta Keep Moving" (6:46)
Queen & Disco - "Satisfied" (7:35)
Review: Almost 18 months in the making; Derry doyens Q&D return with another beautifully detailed four track edit collection that's limited to 500 presses. Alan Mooney starts with bus with less of an edit and more of a stunning lesson in samplecraft as the ghost of Jacko creeps in and out of the filters. Vincenzo De Bull ups the tempo ante with a big loopy disco house gem while Napoleon conquers any dance with an edit of a Costa Rican disco delight. Finally the whole crew wind the EP with instantly distinctive strings and a thundering diva-drenched groove. You won't be able to stop yourselves...

Disco Darling EP
Cat: WD 38. Rel: 09 Jun 15
Andy Ash - "You've Been Found" (6:46)
Vincenzo De Bull & Halve Soul - "Cherry Pie" (7:34)
Rabo & Snob - "Darling" (7:15)
JP Source - "Rollergirl Return" (7:04)
Review: Whisky Disco invite a trio of fresh faces to their ever-growing talent troupe for the Disco Darling EP. Andy Ash takes the lead with a loopy, strutting slice of sample-laced house that wouldn't go amiss in a Mark Farina set while Vincenzo De Bull & Halve Soul lower the tempo, invite us on a Balearic picnic and insist we gobble up huge chunks of Sade's "Cherry Pie". Deeper into the EP we find firm label friends Rabo & Snob laying down a velvet bed of Rhodes and vocal harmonies before the final label newcomer JP Source plays a slo-mo game of sample patty-cake with loopy disco mischief.

Andreas & Osca - "Looking Back" (5:23)
Gaussian Curve - "Impossible Island" (7:23)
Review: One of Denmark's key figures in electronic music and club culture since the 80s, Bager's been whittling the cosmic stick before many of us were out of short trousers. His collections and connections allow him to create and curate some seriously distinctive and unique mixes and collections. Case in point: his recent Sunset Sessions mix. Far too good to just live online, he's created a series of highly limited 12"s featuring numerous mix highlights. Part one includes the Mr Fingers style soul of Bell Tower's Pet Shop Boys tribute, the Gainsbourg-esque whispers of Mathieu Boogaerts and the deep dream samba of Bongo Ent. If you've heard the mix, you'll already know how beautiful these tracks are. Grab them while they're hot.

Buone Vacanze Vol 1

Bizzarro Universe - "Acid Sunday" (5:53)
Gumm - "Dance Of Fortune" (6:36)
Venice Arms - "Cuore Nero" (6:27)
C/TRO - "Allora" (6:18)
Review: Bordello a Parigi cordially invites us to enjoy a 'Buone Vacanze' ('happy holiday') in the first of a new series of multi-artist EPs packed full of sparkling, synth-heavy club cuts inspired by European electro-disco of the 1980s. Bizarro Universe steps up first with the thrusting sequenced bass, chiming melodies and bustling drum machine hits of revivalist Italo-disco number 'Acid Sunday', before GUMM opts for darker, sleazier, sequenced bass, bleeps reminiscent of the Flirts' 'Passion' and excitement-building breakdowns on 'Dance of Fortune'. Venice Arms doff a cap to both freestyle and the glossier end of dancefloor synth-pop on 'Cuore Nero', while 'Allore' by C/TRO is a more atmospheric, locked-in and pulsating slab of Bobby Orlando revivalism.

Disco Endeavours - "So High" (6:26)
Vagabundo Club Social - "El Misterio" (6:00)
Pookie Knights - "Feelin's Mutual" (5:46)
Nnatn - "Magia Du Samba" (7:01)
Review: Some V/As are dubious in their length, seeming to span both EP and mini-compilation length in equal measure, but not this one, which definitely seems to know what it's about. Moiss Music are no stranger to this format, here presenting their second vinyl release 'Watermelon Jam' after the first EP-length four tracker, 'Strawberry Jam'. Nu-disco, funk and house is the name of the game once again, and the tone is set by C Da Afro's 'That Funky Horn' via sample-filtering soul and raucous trumpets. The vocal cuts on this record are among its highlights; Disco Endeavours' 'So High' carries Brandy-esque chirps along a funking house backdrop, while the best of the bunch - 'Feelin's Mutual' by Pookie Knights - channels Carmen or Sylvester in its syrupy refrains and jet-set arps. Even a samba house bit closes it off - a swell all-rounder.

Mystep - "Get Over" (6:17)
Review: For anyone who missed out on the RSD 3LP release from Diggin' Deep Disco, cast your frustration aside as the label have elected to reissue that hefty selection of edits over three 12" samplers. Part One here - pressed on yellow vinyl no less - scopes out the contributions from Cassara, Loz Goddard, Vinyl Addicted and Mystep. Of the four it is still the latter's subtle Moodymannisms on the twilight house strut of "Get Over" that makes the biggest impression.

Closed Paradise - "You Got It Goin On"
Journey Reverse - "Soy Beans"
Volta Cab - "808 Pleasure"
Replika - "You Keep Me Waiting"
Review: Only 300 of these puppies are being pressed with no intention of digital trips or represses. Sitting sexily between disco and deep house, each of these cuts wriggles and writhes with summer intentions. "Soy Beans" is a straight-up Chicago groove, all house proud and loopy, "You Got It Goin On" is driven by a Moodyman style jazz loop, "808 Pleasure" starts with classic warehouse intentions before dropping into a groove so beautiful Mr Fingers would snap his digits. Finally we take a skinny dip in the oceanic synths and fathomless depths of "You Keep Me Waiting". We didn't think it was possible, but long weekends just got even better!

Van McCoy & The Soul City Symphony - "Spanish Boogie" (3:33)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Soon, DJ Harvey will release The Sound of Mercury Rising, a compilation themed around some of the music championed at his summer residency at Pikes Hotel, Ibiza. This four-track taster 12" not only acts as a sampler for the CD version, but also offers the chance to own four excellent and hard-to-find gems. You'll struggle to find a more Balearic disco cut than Danish outfit Tore's 1979 killer "She's a Lady" - think the Bee-Gees with Flamenco guitars - while Elkin & Nelson's "Abran Paso - Aboa (Enrole)" is a spiraling chunk of flamenco-psychedelia fusion. Elsewhere, Van McCoy & Soul City Symphony's "Spanish Boogie" is a jaunty disco number full of crunchy Clavinet lines and rising horn lines, while Tony Esposito's "Danza Dell'Acqua" is as eccentric and wide-eyed as they come.

Eddie C - "Cut Chop Roll Skate"
Scott M - "Get Up"
VinylAddicted & SMQ - "Another Love"
Pontchartrain - "Get Over You"
Review: A fantastic foursome from boozy beat peddlers Whiskey Disco, the "Another Love" EP features label mates old and new. Eddie C ignites proceedings with a chubby electro boogie fused jam that pops and rolls with big disco bubbles and obese synth bass. Slide down deeper to meet label newbie Scott M who's done some serious dancefloor damage with a well-known Vernon Burch track. Further on we hit the EP title track, a Chi-town-style jacker with filtered flurries and a timeless disco house message. Finally we end on a well-spaced, loopy deep disco twist on France Joli's "Gonna Get Over You" courtesy of Pontchartrain.

Vincent Inc - "Walking On The Disco Street" (7:24)
Gerideau, Jose Burgos, Taka Boom - "Bring It Back To Love" (Joey Negro mix) (6:09)
Review: This tidy collection of deep house remixes brings together a whole host of heavyweight names with some sunkissed vibes to get the outdoor party season started early. Cesaria Evora's "Nho" gets the treatment from none other than the mighty Kerri Chandler, who gives the Latin vibes a subtle bump and some sumptuous strings. DJ Spen and Karizma take things more straight up as they tackle Loverush's "Dancin", rolling out a silky smooth deep house version. Vincent Inc's "Walking On The Disco Street" appears in its original, heavy-funking form, and then Joey Negro's mix of "Bring It Back To Love" pushes into the upper reaches of peppy disco house with pattering bongos and gorgeous Rhodes keys aplenty underneath the life affirming vocal.

Cat: RBFEATERRMX 1. Rel: 17 Apr 19
Time Million (Pepe Hardclipping remix) (10:40)
Time Million (Villalobos remix) (13:59)
Review: Eagle-eyed readers may have spotted a number of other 12" singles bearing remixes of this track. According to Gerd Janson, it's because he got a bit overexcited when commissioning club-friendly revisions of the cut, an "outsider pop" gem that will be featured on Feater's forthcoming album "Socialo Blanco". It would be fair to say that the mixes featured here are suitably big. Pepe Bradock handles the A-side, wrapping dubbed-out synth stabs, watery melodies and fireside-hot bass around a skittish, techno-tempo rhythm track. It's one of the French producer's most accessible and peak-time ready revisions for some time. On the reverse, Ricardo Villalobos offers up a suitably percussive, off-kilter minimal techno take that makes great use of short vocal and guitar sounds lifted from Feater's Balearic-minded original mix.

Review: Following Gledd's stellar opening drop, the Saint Wax label returns with a various artists 12" that features some fresh-sounding edits from all over the shop. On the A side, The Funk District steps up first with some Afrobeat retouches, reaching from the rolling 'Gogo Mama' to the hard-slapping funk of 'Easy Easy'. On the flip, Vagabundo Social Club get into a slinky, jazz and acid laced groove on 'Cumbi' and ride the filter in all the right places for the soaring, uplifting 'Ki-kongo'. Review: Notes on A Journey kicks off their new self titled NOAJ edit series here with edits of two tunes from each of Germannu and Valeria. Making those careful edits are real scene mainstays - Delfonic is first and is the man behind the much loved Berlin store OYE Records so has a vast knowledge of what sells and what works well on the dancefloor. He offers a super cool and breezy version of the lush Latin tune 'Fale De Mim' and a more percussive and bumping take on 'Marcacao.' Acclaimed DJ and tasteful selector Mendel then offer this own versions which are just as summery, feel good and life affirming gems for floors who like real music.

Felipe Gordon & Vagabundo Club Social Edits
Shakala (8:39)
Los Bareteros (6:02)
El Cateter (5:38)
Review: Given their deep-rooted knowledge of the re-edit scene, it was probably only a matter of time before the Razor 'N' Tape crew turned their attention to Colombian scalpel fiends Felipe Gordon & Vagabundo Club Social. This outing on Aaron Dae and JKriv's imprint could well be the South Americans' finest work to date. We're particularly enjoying A-side "Shakala", a gently tooled-up and dubbed-out revision of a dusty, tropical disco-funk treat rich in Fela Kuti style Afrobeat grooves, rising horns and flanged guitar riffs. That said, we've also got a lot of love for the fiery horns, bustling rhythms and warm bass of "Los Bareteros" (a revision of a well known, boogaloo-era Afro-Latin jazz dancefloor classic), as well as the similarly minded - but altogether heavier - "El Cateter".

Sleazy Mcqueen & Vagabundo Club Social - "Chips Y Salsoul" (7:17)
Eddie C - "Be There" (7:07)
Review: Lovedancing's latest missive is something of an all-star affair, with Canadian hero Eddie C and Whiskey Disco boss Sleazy McQueen contributing tracks alongside Colombian producer Felipe Gordon and fast-rising scalpel fiend Vagabundo Club Social. The latter joins forces with Gordon for the deep house/deep Latin disco fusion of "Basilio" - all jammed-out Rhodes riffs, heavily percussive grooves and chanted vocals - which is in turn re-imagined as a horn-heavy Latin disco-funk workout by Eddie Stomp. The Vagabundo returns to action alongside regular studio partner Sleazy Mcqueen on B-side opener "Chips Y Salsoul" - warm and deep disco-house vibes with added trumpet solo action - before Eddie C rounds things off with the shuffling, string-laden disco-house loveliness of "Be There".

Straight Talk (3:28)
Review: For their latest dive into the depths of funk history, Athens of the North travels back to 1978 and the debut of John Hawes and Velma Bunch's obscure Hard Drivers project. The record initially appeared on Hawes' own short-lived imprint, and his since become a sought after 7" amongst serious collectors. "Since I Was A Little Girl" is a disco-era funk gem, with guest singer Vivian Lee providing a brilliantly confident vocal to compliment Hawes and Bunch's driving, horn-heavy backing track. On the flip you'll find original B-side "Straight Talk", a touching torch song full of harmony backing vocals, impassioned builds, and lyrics capable of melting even the stoniest of hearts.

Vincent Inc - "So In Love With DEEP" (6:09)
Review: Astrolife gathers together a cast of classy house warriors who know how to take things deep in style. Nigel Hayes opens the 12" up with an iconic sample framed by smoky pads and chunky rhythms. Collate & Balaur bring something a little more dubby, and dare we say it's infected with a little Goa-ready hypnosis. M&M get remixed by DJ Rocca for the high-pressure, Colonel Abrams-flavoured "Vibe" and Vincent Inc tackles a classic from Duke and creates a freaked-out exotic fever dream of a version for the adventurous souls out there. It's the perfect finishing touch to a record that balances poppy appeal with electronic weirdness in a fresh and flamboyant way.

The Salsoul Orchestra - "Take Some Time Out (For Love)" (unreleased 12" short version) (3:24)
Review: Salsoul rekindle their funk with a return the oft-forgotten boogie corner of their repertoire. All released between 82-83, each track cuts bold funk shapes from the label's disco roots: an early Shep Pettibone edit gives Instant Funk a tougher, groove-focused edged, Regisford and Birch really gave life to the slap bass and percussion on "Stroke It" while both Mason and Dayo's "You Can Do It" and The Jammers dim the lights for slower, sugar-coated come-to-bed-boogie jams. Finally, one of Salsoul Orchestra's last recordings "Take Some Time Out" enjoys a kindly rewind by way of a short, sweet 12" version. Essential.

Review: Transatlantyk boss man Zambon's trawl through the archives of Eastern Europe has brought many editions of The Very Polish Cut Outs, and more recently the focus was switched to the Soviet discotheque. The latest 12" in the series dips into the Yugo archive for a quartet of cuts that exposes a little known scene of editors based around the cult club 20/44 in Belgrade. Serbian production and DJ duo Kompleks responsible for three of the reworks here, with their woozy extension of Seid Memic Vajta's tongue twisting "Da Li Si Me Ikad Volijela" a veritable highlight! Zambon rounds out the 12" with his own edit of Videosex which has been nestled on his SoundCloud for far too long - such a killer cut out and the perfect way to end this record. Don't sleep!

Vagabundo Club Social - "Sonico Amor" (7:41)
Review: Perhaps we should think of Whiskey Disco's Small Batch series as their attempt at "artisan disco". Certainly, the re-edits on show should have a few hipsters - and plenty of disco DJs - stroking their hirsute chins in appreciation. Dubtribe Soundsystem's Sunshine Jones kicks things off with the mid-80s synth-pop-goes-acid-house brilliance of "Lovergirl", while regular collaborators Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee doff a cap to Sly & Robbie and Larry Levan on the dub disco vibes of "Love Me Too". Those after some high tempo jazz-funk-meets-disco-house thrills should check Will Buck and PRTMNTO's "I Need Your Love". As for Vagabundo Club Social's "Sonico Armor", it's a hazy, dub-flecked Balearic disco delight.

Review: Having previously established the Diggin Disco Deep formula - think sumptuous, sun-kissed deep house revisions of old disco and Balearic cuts - with a trio of 12" singles, the crew gathers for a fourth vinyl missive. Junktion gets the party started, layering eyes-closed electric piano lines and glistening guitars atop a suitably hazy deep house groove, before Funkyjaws moves further towards filter disco-house territory on the jazz guitar-clad shuffler "World Spin". Review: A certain Danish downtempo sort once again dons his KBE guise for a third selection of decidedly White Isle-friendly re-edits on his Balearic Blah Blah imprint. As usual, there's much to admire, from the beachside haziness of "Day Off" (seemingly a re-edit of a reggae-flecked Chris Rea track), to the rubbery electric bass and winding synths of "Exitsign" (a pleasing extension of a largely ignored, "Fascination"-era Human League track). Elsewhere, there's a welcome re-dub of Larry Levan fave "Pull Up To The Bumper" by Grace Jones, and "Dub To Me", a picturesque, guitar-flecked chugger that's almost the epitome of '80s Balearica.

Review: Given that fresh source material for disco re-edits is becoming even harder to find, it's perhaps unsurprising that more producers are turning to the hard-to-define world of Balearica for inspiration. The Balearic Blah Blah series - helmed by the long-standing producer under the KBE alias - is one of the best in this regard. Here, he variously touches on (and touches up) some laidback West Coast stoner rock (the excellent "Soulwoman"), folksy, semi-acoustic Brazilian samba-rock ("Dinopino"), and frankly bizarre, impressively obscure Balearic disco ("Circusanimali"). Most impressive of all, though, is the urgent hustle of the superb Police rework "Einzweipolizei". Even Sting can't spoil this one, which sounds like prototype dub disco.

Review: We still don't know exactly who's behind these crucial drops on 14th Level Of Paradise, but at least we can be sure of the quality every time a new slab lands from on high. On this edition, Pawel Kobak opens up proceedings with a sweet, disco-sauteed heater with oodles of gorgeous instrumentation over a tough drum machine jack. Deep house don Callisto and DKMA get their sublime "Manga" reworked by Adam Jace, while Dennis Collado gets busy with Mateo & Matos' "Joy 2 My Life" in a dose of pure house uplift. Vincent Floyd's "Economy Of Emotion" is the final track, tastefully remixed by Vincent Inc who folds some subtle synth flourishes over the top of the crisp groove.

Danny Krivit Special Disco Edits Vol 1
Cat: TKD 13064. Rel: 10 Oct 16
Lady America (Danny Krivit edit) (8:19)
Point Zero (Danny Krivit edit) (6:26)
Review: T.K Disco's 21st century re-edit series continues, with Danny Krivit providing fresh scalpel reworks of classic tracks from the legendary Miami label's archives. On the A-side, the New York legend gets busy with Voyage 1977 single "Lady America", making merry with the headline-grabbing piano riffs, vibraphone solos and hustling, dance-all-night groove. Arguably even better is Krivit's rub of the same band's "Point Zero", a sweaty, chant-infested Afro-disco stomper. Krivit wisely focuses on the French outfit's fantastically dense and percussive groove, emphasizing the intoxicating, chanted vocals, darting Clavinet lines and crunchy Afro-funk guitars.

Afro Funky Now (3:33)
Booker (5:18)
Review: On this sizzling seven-inch, two of Italy's most productive disco talents - Lego Edit and Vito Lalinga - join forces to energetically sprint through two righteous slabs of "Dancefloor Funk". First up on side A is "Afro Funky Now", a loose-limbed, bass-heavy Afro-funk workout rich in addictive organ stabs, delay-laden saxophone solos, Fela Kuti-esque horn blasts, beefy bass guitar and infectious drum breaks. Over on side B, "Booker" is a driving force of nature: a saxophone, trumpet and harmonica laden romp through swamp funk territory with more energetic instrumental flourishes than you can shake a stick at. We're unsure whether they're edits or original tracks (most likely the former), but either way they're ace.

Roberto Lodola - "Feeling Of The Sun" (Adriatic Seaview remix)
Alien Disco Sugar - "Sea Delights" (Aegean Seaview rework)
VinylAddicted - "Sun Shadow" (Balearic Seaview rework)
Disco Tech - "Cool Breeze" (Baltic Seaview rework)
Review: Editor's Kutz is back with a killer four-tracker, this time focusing on chillin' disco vibes. Sea viewing with relaxing and nostalgic mood is the basic theme. Starting things off with the Italian funk & afrodisco stallion d.j Roberto Lodola, who's recruited by the label for remixing his own "Marimba Do Mar" track since 1986. "Feeling Of The Sun" is full of original percussion by George Aghedo and a crispy rolling beat, stunning synths, rhodes and wonderful, carefree vocals by Antonia Coda. Next we have Alien Disco Sugar, hailing from Samos, the beautiful and sun-drenched Greek Island. "Sea Delights" is a mid-tempo chillin' rework on a track that we all love by William Pitt. Extra keyboards and bass chords make this rework so live and vivid, as Alien Disco Sugar enjoys his cruising on the Aegean Sea. Flip it for another tip by VinylAddicted, who's so keen on unearthing forgotten gems and reworking them with tenderness. This Balearic rework on a rare track since late 70s hosts some extra percussion by Roberto Lodola, while nice lyrics and a slo-mo beatline, accompanied by the sax and the female vocals will definitely take you by surprise. Leaving the Mediterranean to go north, where Disco Tech, based in Stockholm, closes this EP with an indulging Cool Breeze coming from the Baltic Sea. A careful and elegant retouch on the maxi version of Jeremy Spencer Band's homonymous track. Nothing better than a little bit of Fleetwood Mac to accomplish this 3rd "Editor's Kutz" mission!

Review: Luca LTJ Trevisi is LTJ Xperience and he began his DJ and producer career in the 80s. He was a resident at two of Italy's most acclaimed clubs and sure knows how to craft a tune. As well as his own originals he is a master of the remix and someone who can rework any cut to be even more potent not he floor. He proves that here with four new versions that span deep and dreamy and cosmic disco. He tackles Vasquez, Black Mighty Wax, Soultrend Orchestra and Papik & Sarah Jane Morris and turns each into gold.

Review: There's an undeniable air of quality that lingers over the 12"s emerging on 14th Level Of Paradise, the mysterious label presenting originals, edits and repressed tracks for true house devotees. First up is a little known track from Sasha Makin and Suntetic, given a shimmering polish by Don Carlos and Steven Perri to become a heavy funking masterpiece, before Joe Claussell drops in a percussive dub delight on Monday Michiru's "Higher". On the flip, Vincent Inc and LA get things pumping with the slow but chunky, jazz-licked "Red Room", before Carlos returns for another deep house reverie as he remixes M&M and Andrei Swipe's "Analog Express".

Val Young - "If You Should Ever Be Lonely" (John Morales M+M instrumental mix)
Review: Legendary producer, groove craftsman and one half of the agenda-setting M&M production outfit, anything from Morales is bona fide disco dynamite and likely to have been sought after for at least 25 years. This celebration of Motown's leading ladies is certainly no exception... Teena Marie's "I Need Your Lovin" enjoys both a stately extension and an equally lavish instrumental, Ross's "Boss" gets a full instrumental construction that's as immersive as it is glistening and Tata Vega's "Get It Up For Your Love" goes back to the original stems for a rebuild that allows us to acquaint ourselves with each and every precision played instrument. Finally we jet right into the mid '80s for Val Young's soft-rock-tinged "If You Should Ever Be Lonely". If you're not leaping around in camp histrionics to the thundering bassline and sizzling guitar twangs, you've got it at the wrong speed. Serious Morales gold.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Cruise Music present some crowd-pleasing, feel good funky house re-rubs will go down well with everyone from seasoned heads to happy-go-lucky party people. Diana Ross sounds funky as anything on Mark Funk & Danny Cruz's 'It's My House', while the Souxsoul remix of Sound Of Joy's 'Can't Fake The Feeling' keeps Virag's vocal front and centre and teases out the tension until a sweet disco release. Vertigini gets busy with the filter on the bumping, sunkissed 'We Never Part', and HP Vince's 'Sexy Music' gets revisited by Danny Disco for a perfectly poignant set-ending 'moment' piece with sentimentality to match its groove.

Review: The always funky Tropical Disco Records is back with a 15th fantastic instalment of feel good, playful disco sounds that have you dying for warmer days and brighter nights. It's another various artist affair as is their MO, and Moodena goes first with some horn led disco funk. Sartorial's "Together" is a breezier, beach roller with a sense of cool jazz authority that gets you feeling loved up. Monsieur Van Pratt then brings big Philly strings next to some squelchy acid synth funk before Vagabundo Club Social closes things out with the afro tinged and tribal disco groove of "Encanto Nigeriano".

Review: Riot's popular Disco Made Me Do It Series notches up a third volume of beats here that will once again get floors vibing. Musta's 'Loving Me' is up first in the form of a Hot Toddy remix that twists and turns on groovy synths and sensuous vocals. There is a big diva feel and clean synth lines to Danny Kane's 'Sucker' that fill the heart with joy and then old-school funk comes to the fore on Jaegerossa's musical 'Street Player.' Completing the picture is the Qwestlife remix of Stan Boogie's 'Speak Out' which is another timeless cut with authentic disco loops and lovely vocal energy.

Review: The Tropical Disco crew continue to show an utter disregard for the season by serving up more of their seamy and summer grooves. The super strong Various Artists collection kicks off with the funky bass riffs of 'In Motion' from Phazed Groove, who ride the riffs and fluttering flute lines to the cosmos and back again. Ziggy Phunk gets more raw and punchy with a freewheeling disco house cut that will shake your booty loose and on the backside are two more timeless tracks: 'Funky Tranky' has lush trumpets reaching for the skies and 'Calabao' brings a real Latin vibe and flailing percussive energy.

This double artist dinked 45 kicks off with Pierre's "Cherry Snow", with a likeable Dam Funk-ish vibe, some cool hooks and electronic drums assisted by main male vocal. On the flipside, a female vocal jam from Oakland resident Veronica is heavy on the bass and 80s keyboard synths...we like.

Pioneerball & Lipellis lay down the 80s boogie flavours complete with crisp, rippling guitar licks, Deep Sound Express push both Italo and cosmic buttons with their heavily textured slab of melodic charm, Klar & PF get emotional with the soundtracky "Circles" while Volta Cab brings us to an emphatic climax with a guitar-twanging instrumental that wouldn't go amiss on a nudey flick... This 3-tracker 12" comes as a trifecta of productions from The Rebel, PCJ Project, ad Vito Lalinga, all edited by the sum of their parts, Lego Edit. DJ Kawasaki steps out first with a special 45 edit version of a Soul Boogie mix by the late great Phil Asher, who himself was reworking the Root Soul original 'Spirit of Love.' It's the sort of lush and feel good disco tune that comes laden with a ton of great synths and guitar riffs as well as the all important vocal. Pontchartrain - "Have A Little Taste" (7:04)
Review: Whiskey Disco's first missive of 2018 is something of a sweaty beast, with a quartet of producers stepping up to deliver some sticky dancefloor heat. Label chief Sleazy McQueen joins forces with Vagabundo Social Club on A-side edit "Boh!", a slamming rework of a Bohannon-esque disco-funk jam rich in hard guitar riffs and crunchy Clavinet lines. The Rejected takes a different approach on the flipside, serving up a rolling, delay-laden tweak of celebratory, soccer-themed Brazilian club jam "O Craque De Futbol". Sunny, funky and low-slung, it's accompanied on side B by the gently housed-up swamp funk of Pontchartrain's "Have a Little Taste". Given the quality of the EP, we're more than happy to follow that instruction.
